Very reasonable flat rate for a move into a 4th floor walk up and were incredibly kind and patient when we hit delays throughout the day that had the job starting hours later than originally intended. Moving was SO stressful for me. The NYC Moves team had a professionalism and experience that lessened the anxiety of the moving experience. They took the care to do things the right way, and take care of my stuff. They knew how to solve all of my packing conundrums (e.g. how the heck do you pack dumbbells?), and were unfazed by seemingly daunting situations. Additionally, there was no parking in front of my apartment, so the guys had to haul the entire contents of my home one block away. None of the guys complained, but just focused on what they had to do to get it done. The owner, John, asked really good questions in the quote phase, before I committed to anything. Most AMAZINGGG moving company i ever had in NYC!! And i had a few moves in last 5 years. First of all i wasnt able to find good movers till the last minute and saw their incredible reviews on yelp and decided to call them. Best decision i made the entire move- Let me tell you they respond right away and give the most accurate rate with no BS! If you are honest about your list they wont surprise you with any hikes in rates after looking at your stuff! I literally had a few boxes extra and they didnt even made a point about it or mentioned it. John who organised the whole move is very responsive and stayed in touch the whole time. Their movers were On-time and were the most hard working yet nice and helpful movers i have ever worked with. They actually send 4/5 movers which is actually greatest deal you can get for the money they charge. They literally charge half the other moving companies even though the move was last minute. The movers are really careful and sensitive to your items too. My destination building was really finicky about the move but they just did an excellent job with all requirements and asks. For my medium size - 1 bedroom move between uptown to midtown-it didnt take more then 2 hours(including commute)- Also i had already all stuff packed and ready. Loved how there were no surprises from them-movers or final payment wise both-I was extremely stressed out about the move but they made it so extremely easy- Would defo have them for all my future moves- I looked at almost all known moving comapnies and was overwhelmed by their over-charging prices and stream of really bad reviews. I had a 700 lb Buben and Zorweg Safe that I needed to move and a lot of moving companies were refusing to even work with me -- Complaining that the job was too small and that it was only one item. But not John! When I initially called him, I was afraid of being rejected by the others and so I told him that I had a whole apartment (I was very desperate and sorry John) because all I really needed was the safe to be moved. John told me to email him the details to which I confessed and said that I had a 700 lb box that I needed to move and was seeing if he had 4 strong guys that could help me with my situation. And he came back to me with a flat rate. I didn't make the job any easier for John because I kept out some details when I said it was a box -- but John brought 6-7 men and they were very professional and efficient. They managed to remove the front panel glass in 30 seconds, wrap it in nice blankets/boxes. And then loaded everything where I needed to. Nothing was damaged, they took extra care in transporting, and did a thorough job. They delicately handled a very expensive and heavy safe with great professionalism and efficiency. There's not much more I can say! Oh yeah, John is a great guy to work with. During our communications, I agreed to the price and the time frame, and my text message on the address did not go through. To which John later on calls me back and asks if we are still on for the move (very polite way of telling me my text message wasn't received). Anyways, I appreciated him and all his work as when there was a time delay, last minute decisions, John was able to handle it and be flexible. Thanks so much again! Easy to communicate via email. Did I say flat fee also? No surprises. I was happy to give a 30% tip because they were ao fast! They moved about 700 cubic feet of boxes (about 80) and big items from a 5-story walk up building in Manhattan to Park Slope in 3 hours including travel time. 3 hours!!! Of course I packed everything the week before so they literally just had to move things. Very respectful of my stuff and super accommodating I heard so many bad story about movers but this was a breeze. Highly recommended. Look no further!!! read more

John is the complete opposite of this which is why I've used him two times now. His laid back attitude is what stands out most to me; when I'm dealing with a million and one things regarding a move the last thing I need is movers constantly nagging - you let HIM know when you need his services not the other way around! Beyond this, his staff is a bunch of hard working, honest and quick movers who get the job done in no time. I had a great experience with NYC Moves. My boss and one of my coworkers had recently used them for moves and recommended them to me, and after requesting quotes from several companies, they gave me one of the best. John (who I was in contact with via email) responded to emails promptly and provided a COI upon request. They don't ask for a deposit, but I believe you can only pay in cash. In addition, the price for a morning move was the same as for an afternoon move, which is a big deal - most moving companies charge more for the morning time slot, since there is a higher likelihood they will be late for an afternoon move (if the morning move takes longer than expected). I was moving a bedroom's worth of items from Brooklyn to Manhattan. I estimated 10-15 boxes along with my bedroom furniture, for which they quoted me $450 flat, but ended up having quite a few more boxes than I expected. On the day of the move, the movers arrived within the time window advised. They took a look at what I had and told me upfront they would need to increase the rate, but it only ended up being $25 extra. They moved everything efficiently but took care to wrap up my furniture and disassemble where needed. We beat them to the new place since we were coming by subway, but they arrived not too long after and unloading went just as smoothly. A very reasonable price for a painless move (no small feat in NYC). Highly recommended. read more

I'm going to start off by saying how great these guys are. From the moment you send in the form to the moment they finish, its incredible service. I didn't have much to move but what I did have was pretty heavy. To give you a better idea of what was moved: - One king size bed. - Two twin box springs for the king size bed. - One queen sized Helix mattress. - One Ikea Klippan sofa. - One Ikea Hemnes tv stand. I had originally intended to move on 6/8 so I reached out to them 5/3/ I think it took them less than 20 minutes to get back to me via email with a quote for 550. Honestly, it was a minimum of 100 less than everywhere else so I didn't even bother to haggle. After a few follow up questions over the next few days and a change of moving date, we were set. I followed up one week before the move and everything was confirmed. The night before they called me just to re-confirm and asked if we could move it from 10 - 11 am to 9 - 10 am. No big deal so I said sure. Mike and his team (two other guys) arrived next day at 930 and got to working right away. Mike was really friendly, chatty and helped me confirm that the area I wanted to move to had a great school system. They wrapped up the sofa and tv stand with plastic wrap and then wrapped it with furniture pads. Honestly, I'm so used to movers that don't use that stuff that I was blown away. I was even more impressed when Mike lifted the stand and brought it down two flights of stairs himself. One of his guys took the sofa down themselves too. I was actually scared they'd kill themselves. After everything was packed up, we headed over to my new place and we walked inside to do a quick view of how to get things in and where to place them. They must've been in and out in about 15 minutes and they took all the unwrapped stuff with them. Once they finished, I went outside and gave them the 550 and some extra. At both locations, no damage whatsoever. If I had to gripe about something, it was that one of the guys was stepping all over the box spring with his shoe's on. I would've preferred that he was a little more conscious about that but I'll live. I would definitely call them again for my next move and hope that Mike and his crew are the ones that come out. One last note - For mattresses, they'll put the mattress bags on for you. Just make sure to point out which bags for what mattress. read more

I used NYC moves for my move a few days ago. Overall I am fine with the experience and I am leaning towards 3.5 stars. I have used 4 different moving companies in my past 4 years in NYC and the following points are all from comparison with the other ones I had before. Positives: Fast response, flexible time accommodations, John did a good job estimating the larger amount of packing we needed for the move and decided to dispatch 6 guys instead of 3 guys total for my 1 bedroom apartment (though we had a lot more stuff than an average 1 bedroom apartment). Super fast packing/moving, the whole apartment worth of things are packed/moved/unpacked/furniture disassembled/assembled back within 6 hours (including the 1 hour commute by the truck from my prior address to my current one) and I didn't need to be there to participate at all. To put things into perspective, my previous move done with a different moving company (3 guys that time) with similar amount of stuff took closer to 10 hours with a much shorter distance and we didn't need packing that time either. Everyone wore masks the whole time, were professional, polite and hands down working type (In contrast, I had prior experiences with a different moving company during which some movers took lunch breaks and could clearly have moved faster). Negatives: With the premium price I paid (charged about 30% more than the other move services I inquired for packing+moving, but all cost are pre agreed upon prior and there was no hidden fees), I expected a more careful disassemble/moving/assembling back my furnitures. I found 3 out of the 10 bolts missing from my bookshelves (so 2 out of 5 shelf boards couldn't be put back into original positions in a stable way, I will probably need to make a home depot trip for that). The drawers in my IKEA bed also weren't assembled back well as each has a side protrude a bit out from the bed frame. One of the drawers was damaged from the inside (side nails protruding out from the board) as it was clear that brute force was applied in order to push it into the bedframe...John acknowledged that IKEA wood furnitures tend to not survive the moves well (so it sounds like this wasn't a surprised and has happened before). I also found that they left a few small/lightweight items here and there (mirror behind door, small crash bins, small plants, a cat litter box inside bathroom, shower curtains, etc) in my old apartment and forgot to include them in the move. I had to go back and pick all those up but they were all able to fit into my car fortunately. Both these negatives I haven't experienced in my prior experiences. I recognize that the IKEA bed I have is the more complicated type but the furnitures were always able to be put back as they were and I didn't have small missing pieces in my prior moving experiences. Honestly I wished they could slow down a bit/took more time/care in the move, we didn't need to rush as I had another 3 hours reserved on the service elevator just for me. Overall: I would recommend them if you have A LOT stuff as they are able to quickly put together a big/sufficient team and always finish the moving job ahead of schedule. They are very very fast in packing so they will be great for any sudden/unanticipated moving needs. I would not recommend if you have complicated/delicate furnitures/items that you would like to keep original condition through the move. I mean I don't think they took less care than other moving companies, but also not more so you could probably find a cheaper service for similar level of care. The bigger price premium is also in packing comparing to other companies so I would recommend packing on your own beforehand if you have the time/energy. The greatest strengths I find with NYC moves is definitely their organizational and moving speed. read more

A few weeks ago I moved to New York City from Washington, D.C. I reached out to NYC Moves about hiring movers to unload our U-Haul into our new place. The owner John responded to my email within a day with a 525.00 flat movers fee (for three guys). He was flexible with our arrival time which was super nice since you can't really anticipate traffic and how long it takes to load up the truck. We arrived in NYC about an hour past the time we said we would. We called John while on the road and he was totally accommodating which made the drive up way less stressful. He also helped us out when we were unsure we were able to take the truck through the Holland Tunnel (we could) and FDR Drive (we couldn't, and he offered us alternate ways to get the new place). We had a 15 foot U-Haul that took four guys in DC two hours to load up. It took NYC Moves an hour to unload everything - it was fantastic. Our movers names were Daniel, Junior and Rhys and they were all super nice, efficient and were careful when moving our furniture. While the 525 may sound a bit steep, I thought it was totally worth the price in exchange for the efficiency and the flexibility these guys gave us. read more
