In 11.5 hours I report to MMC Mt Shasta for amputation of left great toe. I'm scheduled to start radiation treatments in two weeks for prostate cancer but thats unlikely now.. How could this happen? I live in Mount Shasta, CA.. I'd been visiting a podiatrist in Redding, CA and his successor from Autumn, 2016 thru Sept, 2020 for toe fungus infection (originally) and then routine foot care (69 yo).. It was time to visit a closer D.P.M. In Mountain Shasta.. Dr. Stoddard was contracted thru local hospital and was less than 1/2 mi away. My first visit was 12/1/2020. He entered room, asked me what I was there for. (Routine foot exam, nail clipping).. As he snipped he proceeded to lecture me because I wore a protective mask during pandemic. He launched into attacking liberals/Dems. Just turned and walked out when finished and said over his shoulder "tell desk ten weeks".. Most every visit was a carbon copy of the first.. That's not a big deal.. there's lots of rude people one meets over the years.. Things started getting weird, however in March, 2023. I'd stood at home and my right foot didn't pivot as I turned left.. All my weight came down on right great toe and it broke.. It turned almost black and swelled.. I had an appointment with Dr Stoddard two days later, but he refused to see me because he "doesn't touch injuries or infections".. He had an X-ray order called in, a blood test for white blood cell count and had staff get me an offloading toe boot. He said come back in 30 days.. When I returned as told, he asked why I was there (?).. I reminded him and he said he didn't remember me (over 2 years in his care.. ten visits).. I'd taken photos of x-rays and he asked to see them and radiologist's report.. Then I had my routine care.. On next routine visit, July 12, 2023, my life changed forever.. My wife, a retired RN, said to ask him to sand down a callus on same toe that had been infected so it wouldn't crack and get toe fungus again.... Dr. Stoddard and I had discussed that entire episode previously.. He asked what I was there for (??), then proceeded to lay me back.. I take Eliquis (blood thinner) for a DVT in left calf and have venous stasis/peripheral neuropathy (all items fully avail for him to read IN MY CHART!!).. I didn't hear him sanding and figured he was using a soft touch.. Then he snapped off his gloves, walked out and said "tell desk 10 weeks!" When nurse came in she damn near fell over.. She raised me up, and there on the ground was a blood-soaked absorbent pad.. She staunched the blood flow and put a band-aid on open wound.. HE'D USED A SCALPEL and cut the callus off down to the meat.. The next day I took a photo and then three months later needed to begin weekly wound care at MMC MS clinic.. Since I have afore-mentioned conditions, the ulceration that resulted from botched callus removal hasn't healed, despite obtaining a foot boot hyperbaric chamber via VA.. 107 visits later, X-rays/MRIs/numerous ER visits/antibiotics have shown I now have osteomyelitis.. So my toe will be removed in early afternoon.... Needless to say, the contracting hospital refused to renew his contract (I wasn't the only butchered patient).. He made it EZ for them.. He'd insisted on more preferential consideration regarding days/hours.. Hospital simply said "No".. So I just thought people ought to know about him and - having read these reviews, I can see many already have their own horror stories.. read more

Horrible!! Avoid him at all costs! He did an unnecessary surgery on me for a non-existent ingrown toenail when all I needed was diabetic foot care. He was quite sadistic in his need to hurt me even to the point of using the needle as a weapon. This is one hateful, angry, sadistic person. I told his front desk person I would not be coming back and I'd better not get a bill. I didn't get one. That's good because I was determined to report him to my insurance company for fraud/malpractice. I am 77 years old. I've never had pain or problems with that toe but I do now! read more

Three visits and a month later, this is what my foot looks like. I give up. No more sitting in the waiting room forever to be seen less than five minutes then more or less shooed out of the office. I had an appointment for 11:30 at Dr. Stoddar's Redding office yesterday. Dr. Stoddard isn't based out of this office, he just squats in it for part of the week (he's based in Chico). I live 40 minutes away and left with plenty of time to get there, but it's an almost 40-mile drive and three road construction projects with one-way traffic slowed me down. Even so, I'd plugged the address into a map program and it said I was a few minutes away at 11:27. But then the program had me turning right instead of left several times and by the time I finally walked in the door, it was 11:40. The receptionist was on the phone, so I used the bathroom and waited. No one walked in or out. It was 11:45 by the time she hung up. I said I was there to see Dr. Stoddard. "He's gone," she replied. She called his Chico office and gave me the phone. "He said you were a no-show," I was told. I explained what happened and noted the times. This was easy because the office has a huge clock on the wall. I asked if she could call Dr. Stoddard and see if he'd come back, or if I could be seen later in the day. She said she would text him and then text me so I gave her my phone number and had her repeat it. For the next two hours, I stayed in Redding and checked my phone frequently. I never got a text. This morning, I called to reschedule my appointment. I was told the doctor refuses to see me because I was so late. When I laid out the timeline, apologizing for the 10 minutes but clarifying I was in the office at 11:40, she said nothing. No matter how much I need to see a podiatrist, I would never see Dr. Stoddard. That he didn't even bother to hear my side of this speaks volumes. read more

Stay away from Dr. Stoddard. He was arrogant , abrupt and down right rude . I was there with my disabled sister. He didn't bother to look at her chart hanging on the door before coming in the room. That was minor, compared to the rest of the visit . I could write volumes, but I'm restraining myself. The receptionist seemed depressed, but I don't fault her for that, as she probably needs her job, or she would quit. read more

Ok. It's been two and a half years. The tendon. Dr.Stoddard cut while trying to dig out a soft tumor that should never have been removed. ( because it was a fatty tumor it returned right away). I'm still limping along. I had 6 screws. 2 metal plates and a 6 " spike put threw my heal to hold it all together. I would have been walking. But I ended up with a bone chip. Right where you bend your foot in the joint and it had to be removed. I'm still trying to heal from all the swelling from the 3 rd and last surgery. No Dr stoddard didn't do the last 2. It was done by North state foot and Ankel Dr Brown and Dr sandu. I forgive DrStdddard. But sometimes I wish I were not so trusting and would have gotten a second opinion. North state was great. They didn't leave me hanging during the pandemic read more

I ended up firing him. He felt like he knew more then a wound nurse. And wanted me to put Vaseline on it.

Dr. Stoddard did a great job on my ingrown toenail. He gave me the extra anesthesia I requested, and chatted with me during the procedure to help me quell my anxiety. read more

I am updating my opinion of this doctor and it is not good. I had my foot reconstructed 1 1/2 yrs ago and it failed. I stopped seeing him at 6 months post-op because he wouldn't listen to me when I would tell him something was wrong with my foot. He took X-rays at 6 weeks and was surprised that all the bones had fused already. He never took another X-ray. I had a CT scan recently and the bones never fused, the staples aren't even in the bone. My flat foot reconstruction has completely failed. There is a cyst around one of the screws in my heel. I wish he would have listened to my concerns during that 6 months when I told him pus was still coming out of one of my incisions which it still is 1 1/2 yrs later. I have to have the whole surgery redone including the long recuperation. I am VERY DISAPPOINTED in this guy's surgery skills. I wish I would have waited to leave that first review. Where to start... my husband had previous work done on his broken ankle. We met with this doctor and were sold hopes and dreams of an ankle replacement. We went through with the surgery. There was little follow up after surgery. His office person at the time submitted the incorrect code for the procedure to our insurance company. I had to fight back and forth with the insurance company to cover the procedure. After nine months of calls, emails, certified letters, and files sent, finally got it paid. Between the time of surgery and it being paid, this doctor was texting my personal number telling me that he needed to be paid for the work he had done. I have never dealt with a doctor more unprofessional and clueless. It's a shame what he put my husband through. I am not in a place to sue, nor would I want to go through all of that again. This doctor is HORRIBLE DO NOT USE. I ended up with a quarter size hole in my foot he re-wrapped and said he was going on cruise and would be back in 3 weeks. I ended up in Enloe with MRSA in my bone, they had to redo the work he did set me up on IV antibiotics for months and wound care for 5 months. He should have set me up in wound care and this mess would not have happened. I was also an athlete before surgery now I am lucky to put weight on my foot after a year. DO NOT USE!!!! read more

I don't know why the other reviews talk of him being removed from hostpitals, I've had surgery with him in a hostpital here within the last 10 months and it went great (calcaneal osteotomy and a kidners process if you'd like to look them up). This Dr has not given me any problems and I am recovering nicely from my previous surgery with him. Would recommend read more

I had a bunion and hammer toe that was preventing me from doing the things I loved to do.. I live in Redding and was referred to a Podiatrist/Surgeon at a popular Orthopedic Center here in Redding. He assured me he would be able to make my foot pain free and beautiful again. WHAT A DISASTER!! My surgery was a mess and this doctor wasn't even interested in looking at his work, and just had his PA follow up.. When I demanded he look at my foot and see that my big toe was curled upwards, my second toe had dropped lower than the others causing me to step on that toe each time I took a step, my third toe was headed south, and I had a cyst that he was not concerned about in the least, he said "give it time"!! I was in constant pain and still not able to do the things I love.. After a couple years, I decided I was not going to live that way and went on the search for a new surgeon..That's when I found Dr Stoddard.. THANK GOODNESS!! I'm about 6 weeks out after an extensive surgery to repair all the damage done by the other doctor.. My foot already feels so much better and when I look down at my foot, I can't believe it's mine.. it's beautiful!!! Dr. Stoddard is so caring and has such a big heart.. Even though his office is in Chico, he arranges to work out of a Redding office one day a week and other offices to better serve his patients.. If you are looking for a Podiatrist/Surgeon, Dr Stoddard is the cream of the crop!! Let him do it RIGHT the first time!!!! read more

I had an ankle replacement a little over 2 months ago. Before the surgery I had severe pain and had a hard time walking. Now I have no pain and walk very well. I wish i could do less stars. I have never had a worse experience with a doctor in my life. Horrible and rude bedside manor. He made me feel like a huge inconvenience. He also requires a $10 payment just to fill out 2 pieces of paper for work disability. Then in order to have a 2 minute conversation with him in order to revise his previously written doctors note it is another $60! He really makes it impossible to be able to go back to work. His receptionist is nice and does try to help but it does not make up for how rude and vain he is. Yes, he may be a doctor and surgeon but it does not make it right to treat your patients like trash. read more

It's been 10 months since my full ankle replacement. Without the surgery I would have had to fuse my ankle. I wouldn't be able to do the things I love. I hiked over 40 miles this year hunting, 20 miles in steep country. read more

Solid "Diagnosis" but little help past that other than emptying your wallet. I recommend going to a podiatrist that is willing to help fix your problem not just tell you that a problem exists and then shoves you out the front door. read more
