If I could give them ZERO stars I would. We brought many silver items and coins and currency. Because My husband new the previous owner, he left the items for evaluation and said we could trust them. We only asked them to evaluate what we left with them and give us an estimate of what was there. They called and said the flat ware was worth 5900.00 I asked what the coins and currency were worth and he did not give answer. Instead he sent a undetailed and unprofessional email with a value. Nothing about the remaining silver. When we called to ask, he said that the silver flatware and the scrap silver was a total of 8200.00. We said ok, we will sell the flatware and the scrap silver, But we want all the money, coins and currency back. WE SAID THIS IN THE SAME SENTeNCE. He will say that we told him we would sell the coins and that they were included in the scrap silver total, but THAT IS NOT TRUE since we told him we wanted the all the money back in that SAME SENTENCE. When we returned to pick up the coins and currency, he didn't have them. He said they got put in the general inventory. Instead he gave us back what he said was an equivalent value. We had an accounting of the coins we gave him. We do not know what happened to this. It was probably in the box we left with them. He never gave us a receipt for anything. Never gave us an accounting of what we left. In fact he had nothing on paper in his whole store about what we left him. The coins he gave back to us were not anywhere near the quality, quantity or type that was left with him. No half dollars, silver dollars, steel pennies etc.... What we got were thinner, dirtier and pennies that weren't even wheat backs when all pennies we left were wheat backs. Also not returned, the foreign currency. They also did not pay us for the foreign currency. Yes it is our fault for trusting him. But they are supposed to be professionals. Nothing about this transaction was professional. ' It is not about the money, but the coins and currency belonged to my parents, and my sisters and I wanted to keep some for sentimental value. AT NO TIME DID WE EVER AGREE TO SELL THEM OUR COINS AND CURRENCY. DO NOT TRUST THEM. read more

I recently discovered this shop when I brought in collections of U.S. and foreign coins. Everyone working there was very quick to help. Jessie introduced himself and took the time to explain the business and how they value coins. He let me know that they also do appraisals and they also consider other small collectibles besides coins. I had no idea my coins were so valuable. After doing some preliminary research, I took my grandfather's coin collection to Seattle Coin Shop to sell. Jesse and the rest of the staff were able to get us a quote in a few hours. Jesse also took the time to walk us through the collection to explain their valuation process and to describe what the current market was for the various coins (and why). This all coincided with my amateur research so I felt assured I was getting a fair price. The guys at the shop made everything easy and they were also a pleasure to work with. Tip: if you acquired some coins from a relative, sort the collection and make a spreadsheet that catalogs what you have. It makes the process easier for everyone involved. OMG I love this place! John is a talented and honest numismatist with TONS of experience. He helped us with an elderly neighbor go through what ended up being a coin collection worth over $150,000 that our friend didn't even know she had. He was 100% upright, honest and trustworthy. It was a large (and heavy) collection and he was willing to come to our home twice to assess the whole thing so I didn't have to lug it around. He took his time and was thorough when sorting through the pieces but with his vast experience (and passion for coins), the whole processes didn't take too long. He has a wealth of knowledge and loves chocolate chip cookies. I much preferred working with small business owner over the other large group in the Seattle. Seller beware!!! Went in to get a professional opinion on some coins here over a year ago, owner told me not to bother with grading, I had nothing worth grading and that I had nothing valuable. I was a beginner collector who had just found a complete mercury dime set at a poorly promoted auction. Owner asked if he could take my coins to the back room - out of my sight - then offered silver weight for the set and some other older coins I had with me. Now that I have some coin knowledge under my belt - I realize that I made a regrettable decision taking my coins to this establishment for assessment. He had me convinced I had a pile of junk silver. Seller Beware: don't let an establishment take your property out of your site and don't believe a coin dealer who downplays grading of older, collectible coins. Yes. I was ignorant. No! A dealer is not obligated to educate everyone who walks through their door. If I had it to do over again, I would not go here unless I had a good idea of what I had in hand or at the very least... I would get a second opinion. ***Owner of this establishment requested I clarify that I dealt with him directly and not with more than one person. However, there was a second fellow who I was left to speak to on my side of the counter and I don't know if he was security, customer service or just a customer he trusted enough to leave me with while he was in the back. *** Responding directly to the owner: I remember my time in your shop and that you took my Whitman Mercury Dime folder to the back room - you asked: Do you mind if I take these to the back? I was taken off guard, but you had already told me not to worry about grading and that I had nothing valuable. So, I said OK. I gave my consent because I did not know better and you are the professional. The reason this review was not posted immediately is because of my learning curve regarding coins and grading coins. I realized over time - as is with learning - that I regretted taking my mercury dimes here because I learned (after dealing with other coin/precious metal purchasers in the area) that it is not standard to take a person's property out of site for evaluation. There was another man in your store who you seemed to know or who was acting as security or customer service. You seemed very comfortable to leave me talking to him for a while while you took my mercury dime set to your back office. You have a strong air of authority so I trusted what you were doing was standard. My review simply states what happened per my experience, It is made clear that the experience happened over a year ago, it is clear that after getting some knowledge under my belt regarding coins that I regretted taking my coins to your store. You sent me an email requesting a correction - I made the correction. You responded to my review implying that I have a faulty memory. I am well-pleased with my transaction today at Seattle Coin Shop. I searched for a place that'd exchange Canadian notes for US legal tender. Seattle being about 100 miles from the border I thought this would be easy, especially when my local coin shop with whom I have a terrific decade-long relationship as customer usually supplies me. But no, and banks need some account number reference or relationship, and the currency exchanges are either by the airport or in Bellevue or Tukwila... no travellers in downtown Seattle needing to trade in their dough, huh? Anyhoo, I telephoned Seattle Coin Shop and purred my inquiry. Although currency exchange is not a noted service, I was in luck if I wanted some Canadian money. On my way! The transaction was conducted in a smooth, fair and pleasant manner. Well-timed too, as my crew was ready for me outside the window. i always believed that these kind of shops are straight forwar. i went in to the sho with a gold necklace, asked the guy if he is intreated, he said yeah let me check if it's legit. after dong his test he told me it's worth $240. unfollow I needed the money and didn't even check the amount of gold, purity and the do calculations after him. he gave me $240 while my necklace was worth $320 based on the amount of gold in it. unfortunately I realized thia too late after i went home and did the calculations on my own. but it's my fault to trust these kind of peopl. i honest truly wish i went to any other store. please chexk after what they tell you your gold is worth......he was a thief and robbed me of $60 read more

I recently took a quantity of rare coins in to sell and John was very professional, pleasant and honest. I feel I received good value for what I had and am happy to recommend this shop to anyone wanting to buy or sell rare coins, or go through the bins of silver coins in search of a treasure. My first experience purchasing there in Jan 2021 was good and easy going. This was my second time to purchase from this shop. As a middle aged woman, I walked in and got a lot of push back for what I came in there to buy. Silver is a hot commodity right now. This time he was rude (and his buddy hanging around there) and tried to talk me out of what I wanted to buy (he was low on stock??). It's possible I was overcharged for what I purchased, and it's all cash or check which makes sense. I'm sure he a fine businessman but he wasn't pleased with what I wanted. My guess is women need to be watchful for when walking in to a coin shop to purchase silver. Know the product and price before and double check the cash you pay, get out of there quickly. read more

Terrible place to buy or sell gold. Not worth it. Got low balled on one of my golden double eagles. Extremely unfair price $100 lower than the next shop down the street. Good place to go if you want to have a snob snub his nose at you. Worst prices in town. Gold is overpriced and offers are low. A shop that shouldn't be in business anymore. Terrible customer service. The owner puts himself before the customer. I will NEVER return to this shop. Do yourself a favor and avoid these guys at all costs. I am an easy guy to get a long with and this guy really set me off. He will be out of business in no time... No question. Edit: went back for a second visit and they were slightly nicer.
