I was searching for a watch battery shop near green lake, and came across this place. The owner came out and was incredibly friendly. I told him I had 4 Nixon watches that needed the battery replaced and also re-pressurized, as I take all my nixons with me when wakeboarding and swimming. He told me not a problem, and quoted me $15 per battery replacement. He got all 4 watches done in less than 25 minutes. Super pleasant guy, clean store, and so I highly recommend! What a gem! A tiny, special, little place. Needed my watch battery replaced and the guy at the mall watch kiosk said he couldn't get my watch open, and had even scuffed the watch (and tool) trying - another story. But I'm so glad he was incapable or I wouldn't have stumbled in here. Out running errands, did a quick Yelp, and called for a quote - which to my surprise is super affordable! Watch battery replacements here are cheaper than the mall "watch repair" stand - the one with (and I mean this in the nicest way) the idiot who couldn't get my watch open. I walked in and a tall, gentleman walked through the curtains, swiftly greeted me, took my watch, and went to the back. He came back through the curtains 10 minutes later (he had quoted 15) and voila! I'm so happy. He owns the jewelry store with his wife, who hand makes the beautiful pieces. I'll be back. Go here! Mamo made both my ring and spirit sparkle. Boyfriend popped the question last week, and he gave me his great, great-aunt's ring. (He had her post-humous permission, of course.) As beautiful as it was, it needed some shrinking and shining. I handed the jeweler (wife version) my ring and explained that I wanted it resized, and she immediately gave me plenty of history on the ring. "See the color of the gold? That shows it's from Europe." Woweewow! "This style is called the Toi et Moi. It's from the early 20th century." Woweewow again! They are jewelry detectives. My ring was resized, cleaned, and assessed for fifty bucks. The jeweler (husband version) offered to clean the ring whenever the heck we wanted, and he promised to keep us updated on the state of the gems and prongy things that hold the gems. I love Mamo always and forever... almost as much as I love my fiance. ALMOST. Not quite. I just popped into Mamo the other day to see if they could replace the battery in my favorite Fossil watch... which they did; I was in and out in under five minutes and my watch is once again ticking along. But what earned my yelp review was how friendly and totally unpretentious the fellow behind the counter was. We chatted for a minute while he was finishing my watch, and I asked a random question about the setting on a necklace that caught my eye. He proceeded to explain it to me and pull out a couple other pieces to show me different examples (it turned out to be a bezel setting - sorry, I'm clueless about these things! No ring shopping here!). I suppose it was good business practice on his part to take the time to talk to me, since I could come back someday when I am shopping for something special... and it's true, after that experience, I'm much more likely to stop in here! The woman that helped me was helpful, knew what she was talking about and took the time to talk with me without a sales pitch. This is a great little place, very knowledgeable about jewelry with great customer service. I came in today to repair a clasp on a bracelet that had broken, and to inquire about wedding bands and ring services. Someone I assume was Maurice replaced the broken clasp with a sturdier one in about two minutes while I waited. He also offered a lot of very useful advice on caring for both the ring and the bracelet. There are a lot of social and environmental issues in the jewelry industry, most notably mining of metals and gemstones. So for my engagement ring, I had done a lot of research and chose an online company that uses recycled metals and lab-created gemstones and makes their jewelry in the USA. After asking about wedding bands, I found out that Ma Mo uses almost entirely recycled metals too, and I imagine they could have sourced the lab gemstone I preferred. And, of course, their jewelry is made right here in Seattle. The knowledge and expertise they offer is way beyond what the online jeweler offered. I will probably get my wedding band here, and now I wish I had stopped in before choosing an engagement ring too! I also came here once before to replace a clasp on a necklace and change a watch battery. Those were also done in minutes while I waited, and when he returned them he even removed a knot in the necklace chain. He's always given me back the old clasp as well to resell the metal. In an era of online shopping and big-box stores, Ma Mo makes a strong case for the small, local business! read more

My wife took my Shinola watch in for a battery change and the service was excellent. One of the owners (we think) was there and did it herself, total time maybe 10 minutes. We really hope the city's elimination of all the street parking in front of the shop and on the block north of the shop won't put the kibosh on this business' traffic. I have gone to MaMo for many services over the years including repairs, appraisal certificates, purchases, and commissioning a unique piece. Each time, I've had the experience of having high expectations exceeded. Repairs: Done quickly and thoroughly, and for a reasonable price Appraisals: Same, along with education on the stones and metals Purchases: They carry a line of lovely sterling and enamel pieces, perfect for a special gift for children ready for a charm bracelet or necklace. Their own higher end jewelry is simply gorgeous, well crafted. Commissions: As a gift for my mil, I approached them to ask if they could make a custom etching on a locket. A real image, not simply an initial - it was a scene of a small chapel by the North Sea. The locket itself was not thick enough to handle etching, so they came up with a way to make an etching on pure sterling (as MIL has a strong nickel allergy, and most sterling 925 has nickel in it stateside). In reviewing the photos, Morgan worked with me to get ideas for special details that would be especially meaningful for MIL. She prepared the wax model for my review, then made a perfect sterling plate that was soldered to the locket front. The total size of the plate wasn't even 1" x 0.5", and it was absolutely perfect in its detailing. Going to MaMo makes you want to have a bigger budget - not simply for all the wonderful pieces they make, but because they take such pride in their work. They deserve more work than they can handle. read more

Even though ours was probably one of the most basic, inexpensive orders possible you would never know it from the treatment we received. They do everything quickly and with care. WOW. I can't say enough about Morgan & Maurice at Ma Mo. I came in with a design for my girlfriend's engagement ring sketched out, and they were able to source a rare stone from Sri Lanka that was PERFECT. But that was just the beginning. Morgan then created the setting from scratch, hand-carving a wax model that matched my drawing perfectly, but better. The work might be good here, I do not know. I brought in a one and a half carat diamond ring that was vintage. I wanted them to help me design a band to work with it. My boyfriend and I have had great experiences with Mamo. My boyfriend took an inherited ring there to be cleaned before he gave it to me, and they did a great job. We have since been back to have the ring sized and the prongs refinished. A few weeks later, when a stone seemed to be a little loose, the jeweler at Mamo was more than happy to retighten it on the spot at no charge. The owners are also lovely people and were very helpful. Unfortunately, my wedding ring got crushed badly while helping my husband in his shop. I took it back to Ma Mo to get a quote on repairs, and was pleasantly surprised at their quote. They fixed my ring good as new and did the rhodium plating for a fraction of the cost of the big box jeweler. Maurice also tightened the setting on another ring for no charge. After having some real bad luck up at Northgate with watch batteries and repair I saw on Yelp that Ma Mo does battery replacements in watches. I cannot say enough good things about this couple. They are friendly, professional and their prices are very fair to change out batteries. One of my watches wasn't working right, intermittently running and not running. Maurice cleaned up the connections inside the watch at no charge. I also had a really fine watch that needed a battery change. At Northgate in the kiosk they see a nice watch and add a surcharge on to change the battery. Ma Mo doesn't do that. I have now brought in 3 watches and totally up and running. Can't even begin to say how great MaMo is. I took my engagement ring here to get it sized and Maurice was so great and helpful. I didn't want to be without my ring for long since I had just gotten engaged and he totally understood. I took it in on a Tuesday and he had it done by Thursday mid day and it fit perfectly for a totally reasonable cost- he didn't even charge me extra to rush it. This week my stone came a bit loose so I decided to go back to see if Maurice could fix it up. He took care of it within a day, cleaned it and double checked everything. It's sparklier than ever and again, the price was super reasonable. I will definitely be back for regular cleanings and future business. This is my first Yelp review - I signed up specifically so I could write a review for Maurice and Morgan. I have in no way shape or form been compensated by them for this review, other than having some exceptional, original jewelry designed and crafted by them. I let my fiancee design her own engagement ring, seeing as how we have radically different tastes, and it's her ring - she should truly enjoy it, right? She visited a couple of stores while I was deployed, and I checked out a few of them when I could get some internet time. MaMo jumped out at me, though I couldn't tell much from their minimalist site, and I resolved to check it out when I got back to the Northwest. My fiancee and I looked at another jewelry shop (another high-end, local store) before going to MaMo, and the comparison was night and day. From the moment we entered the store, we felt very welcomed and on an equal playing field with both Maurice and Morgan, who both have a vast wealth of knowledge with regard to design and fabrication. While both are extremely professional, they are easy to talk to and very down to earth. We brought along a few pictures of rings that my fiancee liked the look of, and Morgan immediately began sketching and asking a lot of questions to determine what my fiancee liked best about each design. By the time we left, she had figured out how to incorporate my fiancee's favorite aspects of each ring design into a sketch of the first draft of the ring. We had several rings cast in wax and slowly began an iterative and sometimes slow process of getting the ring exactly the way my fiancee wanted it. I was pretty adamant on buying a loose diamond online, and it didn't ruffle any feathers at all - we just brought it in so Morgan and Maurice could continue the design process. Despite the fact that my fiancee had never done anything creative like this before, and sometimes had a little trouble describing what she wanted, we ended up with a phenomenally beautiful platinum half-bezel oval diamond engagement ring. We didn't stop there - they had done such a beautiful job that we ended up buying both my (now) wife's wedding band as well as mine here as well. I had been planning on just getting a band online, but the more I considered it, the more I wanted Maurice and Morgan to design something for me as well, and it came out beautifully (an 18k white gold band with thin, polished rails and a heavy hammered, brushed finish on the inside). We finished up by having a portion of our vows etched inside each band. These guys are one in a million. Please don't hesitate to visit them if you're in the market for something unique. read more
