I have only purchased from this shop twice but was treated very well and I paid a fair price for the coins. Will shop there again.

Here are the facts: I have an old ring that is 14 kt weighing in at 3.2 dwt. Today's gold price is…read more$1771.70 per ounce, or in terms of pennyweight (dwt) for 14 kt that is $51.67/dwt. Calculating this out the melt price of the ring would be about $165. Ater the buyer verified the weight and purity (with a gram scale and muriatic acid respectively) he asked me to name a price. So as any good negotiator would do I started at the maximum I could get at $165. He then said how about $126 for the ring? I thought that this was fair since one could expect to get 70-80% of the melt price from a pawn broker, plus he mentioned that they have their own smelter which takes away some of their overhead. So I said, yes I will give it to you for that much. He then paused, made a phone call to someone named Danielle and then after some talk about how my price was higher than the platinum price, he came back with a price of $106! I asked him why then did he offer me $126 only to turn around and offer me something totally different. He then said that if I had more weight in gold to offer then he could offer me the higher price. So I asked him if they buy gold based on a tiered approach. He replied, no. You be the judge. Mine is two out of five.

He keeps offering to buy mine, after he bought from our Texas dealer, paid a fee to use his credit card for advance payment and was billed for shipping and insurance. His purchase cost him over $3,000.00 more than the exact same purchase I made locally, and he waited weeks for his delivery. He can afford it, but he never bought from his dealer again. I do feel their pain with the new 10% sales tax in WA, so I will try to sell some of my holdings back to them @ reasonable profit margins. They are good people to deal with, at least in my experience. They have earned my support.

The shank broke on 5/11/2026, and I took it back on 5/12/2026. The lady who waited on me made a loud production about their one-year warranty and how the damage to my ring was outside of the year. It was 3 weeks outside of the warranty. It was unprofessional behavior and there were other people in the business who could hear her admonish me. She said she would speak to the owner and get back to me. I received a text message on 5/13/2026, stating that I could pay $40 for the repair. I picked up my ring and took it to another jewelry store who looked the ring over to give me an estimate. Attached is the picture I took when they explained that the work that had been done was faulty. There are bubbles in the shank and you can see the lines where the metal was added to upsize the ring. So much for over 30 years' experience in the business. I would expect this type of customer experience with a corporate owned business where profit is the goal over everything else, not from a "locally owned business that advertises that you can trust your precious family heirlooms with them." Update/Response: The ring was not bent nor had it been sized before. I hardly wear this ring, and I never wear it for work, around the house or in the garden. I received this from a grandparent, and it was a size 4 or 5. Fircrest is the only jeweler that I have had size this ring, and that was in April of last year. It broke at the seam of the metal that was used to upsize the ring to a size 8.5. The jeweler that looked over the ring was not impressed with the work and there was no discussion about the ring being bent or sized multiple times.

After all of those experiences, the only shop I consistently return to and wholeheartedly recommend is the Seattle Coin Shop. What sets them apart is their honesty and professionalism. Having worked in retail for years, including in a shop that purchased jewelry and coins, I have a decent sense of how these transactions should work. At many places, you can feel rushed, undervalued, or unsure if you're getting a fair assessment. At Seattle Coin Shop, it's the complete opposite. Every time I've brought something in--whether it was a single coin, or mixed scrap items--they've taken the time to explain what I have, how they assess its value, and what factors influence their offer. There's never any pressure, and they're patient with questions. Their evaluations have always felt transparent and straightforward, which is rare in this type of industry. Most importantly, it's the only shop where I've consistently walked away feeling confident that I was treated honestly and fairly--that peace of mind matters, especially when dealing with items that have monetary or sentimental value. Seattle Coin Shop is the only place I trust, and the only one I recommend to anyone looking to buy, sell, or simply learn more about their coins or precious metals.
