I debated on writing this but the more I think about it, it just doesn't feel right so figured I'd share to give others a heads up. No complains about the repair - they did a great job! I took in a wedding ring crown that has 5 diamonds on it since I had lost one of the diamonds. Upon bringing it in, Josh let me know they could fix it and was already bagging it up without even giving a quote. I then asked for a quote since I'd gotten one from the original maker of the ring. I had let him know the quote he gave which was $390-425 was higher than what they quoted. But ultimately decided I'd rather have it fixed locally than send it out since I didn't want to wait (which I voiced verbally). He took a closer look and said they could do it for $425. I said okay because after shipping costs, it would only be ~$40 more than sending it to the maker. He said okay, and that he'd pick out the diamond today and I'd have it back the following week. 2 full weeks went by before it was ready so I was already a bit annoyed since that was likely the same turn around if I mailed it to the maker! But then when I went to pick it up, the price was $595+tax. I asked why the price difference (and refreshed his memory on our convo at drop off) and he just said okay we can do it for $495. So not only did it take just as long, but in the end after tax I spent over $100 more than what I would have spent if I sent it to the maker. read more

I called ahead and got an accommodating response to my plea that I might have ruined the opening divet that allows the watch back cover to be pried open to change a battery (which I do myself, typically). This was a gnarly watch back on a new watch that I scratched badly trying to do it myself. The watch expert made himself available on a busy Saturday and went at it for longer than typical, required a second person to wield a different instrument at the same time, and finally pried it open. Given that they spent a long time, I'm shocked they did not charge--I brought in my own new battery (which was the wrong one) and it was clear I was chagrined at a new watch that was truly problematic that I scratched up in the process. That was extraordinarily gracious of them. I'll definitely be back even though I live nowhere close. read more

The staff will not be surprised that I am writing this review as I have been in the store multiple times over the past several weeks and it has been a horrible experience. Bottom line, I absolutely would not recommend this store. See below for the many reasons. I also want to note I have never left a bad review for a business and I honestly hate writing one especially for a local business but I don't want anyone to have the experience I just had. - They appraised my grandmother's ring incorrectly.I brought my grandmothers wedding ring in the be appraised. I paid $80 for the appraisal and they told me the ring is 14k white gold.I went back in several months later to talk to them about redoing the ring to make it into a wedding band for myself and the same woman that originally appraised it told me it is platinum. So the appraisal was completely wrong. - They couldn't find my dead grandmothers wedding ring. I dropped my grandmothers ring off so that they could create CAD designs to show some options to redo the ring. They told me the cost would be $600-800 to build a new ring with the existing diamonds. They sent me the CAD designs 1 week later and told me it would actually be $1,200, double what they originally quoted me. Despite this, I went back into the store to try on rings to get an idea of what the designs they sent me would look like. I wasn't even there to get the ring back, just to try on similar options. When I got there, they couldn't find my grandmothers ring. The owner and multiple employees started looking all around the store, in bizarre places (very concerning they are keeping rings in random spots throughout the store.) They told me it is probably with their jeweler that they send out to, they called him and he also couldn't find it. They track items via a notebook and didn't even have my ring written down and never gave me any sort of receipt indicating that they had my ring. After an hour in the store with employees searching for my ring, I grew increasingly concerned and frustrated. What made things worse, Josh who I believe is the owner, was incredibly condescending to me and continuously told me in 56 years of business they had never lost an item. I informed him that at the moment my ring was indeed lost and he was not comforting me. He then told me his jeweler was sick and they couldn't call him (despite the fact that I just heard another co-worker on the phone with him) and advised that I leave and call them tomorrow. Another employee also told me the jeweler misplaces things all the time so she assured me the jeweler had my ring, also not comforting at all. - They attempted to give me someone else's ring. I left the store without my grandmothers ring and having no idea where it is. An hour after I left they called me and told me the jeweler indeed had it and I should call them back. I called back the next morning and Josh told me that the ring would be back in the store tomorrow for me to come pick it up and asked me if I wanted to proceed with the ring design which I thought was comical given what had transpired. I went back to the store two days later and spoke with an employee I hadn't worked with before. She asked me for my receipt, I told her I was never given one, and she told me "that's fine, they don't really matter anyways" (also concerning.) She asked for my name and said, here it is! and emptied an envelope onto the counter..... it was not my ring. I almost had to laugh at that point because I couldn't believe how many times they screwed up. I could have said, that's it! And left with someone else's ring without the employee questioning it. I told her that was not my ring and once againnnnnnn a search of the store pursued. After several minutes and several employees trying to figure out where my ring is (again!!!) I am told Josh will be back with my ring at 3:30pm (it was currently 2pm) and they asked me if I wanted to wait for him to arrive. I informed them I was clearly told that the ring would be back yesterday and that my patience had worn out. The woman I talked to was very nice and knew that I was upset and she was not aware of what had already happened but I was livid I once again left without my ring. I went back the following day (for the 4th time in 2 weeks) and finally left with my grandmas ring. The ring was a wedding band and a second ring which was a kind of shell for the wedding band. They only had taken the shell and when I went to connect it to the wedding band it was clearly severely deformed from when I had given it to them and it didn't properly fit the wedding band anymore. The staff again made excuses and took zero accountability. I told them I will never be back and left with the ring. I write this review to warn people to not work with Josh and his business. I am a local West Seattlite and was excited to work with a local, family-owned business but they have lost my trust and I have no choice but to work with another jeweler. read more

I went in to have a family broach converted to a pendant. It wasn't much, but it was solid gold and probably the most expensive piece of jewelry I own. Due to incorrect intake, the problem-solving took considerable time. During one of those visits, I asked about cleaning a druzy ring that had lost its luster. Bruce, the person helping me, mentioned he didn't know the stone or how to clean it. "What's it worth, $20 bucks?" It was a $1200 Jamie Joseph ring. Again, not much, but not nothing. One of the few businesses still providing old school kindness and integrity! I dropped off one of my dive watches for repair with Josh (The unofficial Mayor of West Seattle?) because the crown was really tight and gritty. Two weeks later, Pam calls and says the watch is fixed and ready for pick-up. I then asked what the damage was and she said "Nothing". I was like no way, why? She then said explained that their outsourced technician took it apart and realized all is fine and just needed some oil around the mechanical crown area and that was it. But still... He suggested that a designer he had would make me a mold to see if it was like something I would want. The design was perfect (I specially wanted something that looked antique). Everyone took such a special interest in the project. Jump forward to 8 years ago. I was getting divorced and asked if they would purchase my ring from me. They agreed and gave me an amazing price for it. Very close to what I paid. I was really sad to let it go. I lost the diamond from my engagement ring 8 years ago and my grandmother gave me her wedding ring before she passed away a few years ago. Very disappointed with the customer service here. Took my jewelry for appraisal. I was specifically told that if the piece is under $3000, there will be no appraisal done. Lo and behold, it was appraised under 3k. When I mentioned this to one of the folks in the store, they became defensive and multiple people would come up telling me that this is not the case and the cap is at 500$. This whole tactic seems to center on bullying the other person. Quite aggressive. Would not recommend and I would never come back to this store. read more

What wonderful experiences my fiancée and I have had in buying each other rings at Menashe & Sons! It started with me looking for an vintage ring with which I planned to propose; I was amazed, and a bit overwhelmed, by the selection. As luck would have it, Mr. Menashe came over with a ring that had just arrived from an estate sale in California--and it was exactly what I was hoping for. Although I asked for the nearly impossible--I wanted to propose on my partner's birthday, which was in two days--but they had it sized and back to me with time to spare. (And she immediately said "yes" when I proposed.) We had a similarly positive experience--more accurately, experienceS--in getting my ring. Not only were we presented with a wide array of choices, presented in a patient and pressure-free manner, but with their help we came up with a very special customer ring. And although it turned out to be too loose on my ring finger--my fault, not theirs--they promptly, accurately and cheerfully resized it for me. But the best was yet to come. Four days ago, my fiancée suddenly turned to me and showed me her ring ... which was now minus its main diamond. We spent hours looking for it within a 3,000 square-foot and on parts of the five acres that it sits on, to no avail. But that night, her late mother gave her a hint in a dream, and the diamond was found in the location suggested in the dream. Josh Menashe took it from it there; explaining how they would repair it and improve the vintage setting in the process--at no charge. Amazingly, the work was done in slightly more than 24 hours, to accommodate a trip we're taking. (And during which she hoped to show off her ring!) At every turn, we have been treated like family friends instead of mere customers; we've been greeted warmly and recognized every time we've visited the store. It's wonderful when you can shop with a family-owned, local business that competes favorably with the "mall stores." I enjoy the people at Menashe's very much. I love that they are a family business and have been around for years. However, i was a little worried when i went to get my engagement ring re-sized. My fiance had gotten sized the first time at menashes from about a size 5 to an 8. He paid under $100 and was very pleased. After realizing i needed the ring sized just a little bit more, i went into the shop. We determined there that i needed to go up about half a size. About 5 days later, i got a call from Menashes. They said they had a quote for my re-sizing from an 8 to an 8.5. The woman on the phone told me it would be $95 plus tax. $95???? I was actually speechless over the phone as this price. Especially when my fiance paid less than that to get it sized from a 5 to an 8. I asked her if that truly was the price they were telling me, and when she said yes i did not think i was going to have to pay that much, and that i was stunned. She put me on hold, and when she got back on the phone i heard her speaking with someone and then said "okay we will do it for $45". I really felt like they were trying to scam me. This makes me sad because i love this family business and i have always heard such good things. I am glad that i said something and got the price lowered, but I dont know if i will return there again. If you go to Menashe's, make sure you are not paying a ridiculous price. Like to be treated like your very presence is irritating ? Come have someone be shockingly rude to you while shopping for expensive goods at Menashe & Sons! Went there with my girlfriend to have a recently purchased antique ring sized for her finger. It was her birthday so I wanted the event to be special. I thought going to a local neighbor non-chain store we would get treated with some grace and dignity. That would not be the case. The woman who helped us was abrasive, rude, and snapped at my girlfriend when she was trying to size her finger. "You're not holding it right" she was sniped at after trying to figure out the contraption that was thrown at her. She handled our recently purchased antique ring like it was a piece of junk and would snap at us if we didn't answer a question quick enough. The whole event was a bit shocking, but I didn't want to make a scene at the store. When we left my girlfriend was obviously upset about being treated so poorly so I went back and took the ring from them. I didn't trust them to treat it with the same value we gave it. I did get the ring sized a few days later at 'Lisa Esztergalyos', thanks to yelp reviews, and walking in there was like a ray of customer service sunshine. She obviously cares about her customers and treated me and my ring with respect and kindness. I've came in today to pickup some jewelry that I was having some repairs on. Once I was buzzed in I saw Jack Menashe looking at me, so I said hello but he said nothing in return. The store was empty except for Jack, Josh and Joanna. I thought that was pretty rude for the owner to blatantly ignore me and no one to greet a customer, especially one that says hello, but I continued on to Joanna at the back cashier station to pay for my jewelry. While I gave Joanna my claim tickets and she was was pulling my jewelry, immediately to my left was Josh sitting and on a very loud speakerphone call where he apparently was talking to a car mechanic about Josh's car that was having work done. I only mention this because the car mechanic was repeatedly using the F*#! word this, F*#! word that... in regards to Josh's F*$!@#$ car oil and F@#$*& clutch. The first time the F*#! word was blurted out wasn't bad but it continued and continued the entire time I was there waiting for my jewelry and I was surprised that Josh didn't think he should take the call somewhere else or that Jack or Joanna didn't seem phased at all from the loud swearing. I thought it was extremely unprofessional. I don't normally care if someone is swearing but on the showroom floor of a small business, with a customer isn't appropriate. I'm very thankful I hadn't brought my 4 year old daughter in and now I know that Menashe's isn't an appropriate store for family's in general. In the past when I've gone in, I wasn't the only customer and it wasn't so quiet but this time I discovered who the Menashe's really are. I've made purchases here in the past as well as a few different jewelry repairs but this will be the last time I ever walk into Menashe's again. BTW, Neither Jack, Josh or Joanna were wearing masks during covid-19 times. Joanna was behind plexiglass but Jack and Josh were out in the open. Hopefully this local business goes the way of the dodo bird so California Ave can get yet another pizza shop that we don't need. read more
