The day did not start very well. Can someone please tell me when banks quit giving, in person customer service. I got a CASHIERS check from another institution and walked in to the Seattle Credit Union in Tukwila. I got there right when they opened to deposit the check because I had bought a new car and needed the funds for the down payment. All I wanted to do was deposit the check. First of all there were 3 employees available when I walked in, so they weren't busy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The young gal I walked up to said I would need to deposit the check in the machine( why, I'm here talking to you) I explained to her that I purposely came to the bank so there would not be a hold on my check as I would need the funds available for the down payment. She said no matter what we will put a hold on it[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. WHY? It was a cashiers check from another institution . [[HIGHLIGHT]]The other part that was so frustrating, we have banked with Seattle Credit Union for 30 years and have our mortgage with them. We have ALWAYS been in good standing with them. I'm again not sure when banks quit caring for their long term customers[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. So I deposited the check in the machine because I was given no other choice and my receipt stated that some of the funds would be available in 2 days and some not until July 3rd. That's over a week. I've been banking with Seattle Credit Union for over 10 years now, and they were a wonderful banking institution up until about 2 or 3 years ago. [[HIGHLIGHT]]SCU's customer service is terrible, their online payment system is unnecessarily complicated and restrictive, and their overdrafting methods are just as predatory as places like Bank of America or Wells Fargo.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Last week their customer service rep literally LIED to me last week and said that any charges made by my debit card would be auto-declined if I had insufficient funds in the account - that was a complete lie because I check my account a few days later and I see a ton of stacked OD Fees, and Extended OD status fees.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] These vampires stack the OD fees to inflict the maximum fiscal damage they possibly can. They want to charge a $28 OD fee for a $2.50 debit auto-draft that should have been declined?! Banking with SCU would be just like banking with a trash place like Wells Fargo or BoA, only you have the additional bonus of having a fraction of the ATM's and branches to visit. I don't know what happened with the leadership at SCU, but its devolved into an absolute trash experience the last couple of years. Don't trust these people. read more

I literally just opened my account online today, then went to the next step of creating my online banking ID. The system does not work and shows an error and instructs me to call customer service. I have been both a business and person customer for years and this is simply the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I am not wealthy. I cannot afford to lose this much money. I'm changing my review. Lynnwood branch has moved and, get this, THEY NO LONGER HAVE TELLERS!!! All your transactions are via machines. Of which today THEY'RE NOT EVEN WORKING!!! Good god. I talk about service below in downtown Seattle but if they still have tellers they're a step above Lynnwood. If all of Seattle CU is going this way, though, we're going elsewhere WHAT A JOKE. We bank in Lynnwood and love it. The people are very friendly and fast. Unlike the downtown branch. Why the heck does it take so long to get someone in the phone? Seattle credit union used to be a fantastic bank, but things have changed tremendously over the years. The staff is nice, which is why I'm giving it two stars instead of one. We have their rewards credit card and the service center behind this card is a disaster. We've had numerous problem with them and have spent hours on the phone. I had an incident with a purchase that I made (fraudulent website). I realized it immediately and called the bank. They said it wouldn't go through and cancelled the card. Well, it did go through even after going through the hassle of cancelling the card. Yesterday we received a fraud alert for a legitimate charge and my husband approved the charge. The continued to decline the card. So, I had to use a different card (Bank of America). We've had more and more issues with the banks services (loan department). If we did not have our mortgage at a very low rate with them, we would be moving to a different bank. It's unfortunate that they do not listen to customer feedback and take action. read more

The loan process is awful. The only way that you receive an update is if you email. Then once you email, you fi d that they need "something" else. Even with getting them requested documents with 24 hours of request the process still took over two months. I took my tax returns into a branch to have them scan them and send to the loan processor only to find out that they could not find the documents that they scanned and I had to go in and scan and send them again. read more

I was buying a car, and the dealer offered financing that was not competitive. From the dealer, I filled out the form on Seattle CU's site, I called them, was quickly preapproved, had a docusign with the agreement sent to me that night, and I completed the transaction the next business day. The worst bank I have ever worked with. I have been with the so-called bank for about six years; unfortunately, one of my colleague teachers recommend that I open an account with her. To make it short, I purchased an airline ticket online for $ 956.17, and then, as soon as I bought I called the SCU credit card department with a message of a fraud involved with that transaction. Then, they told me that they told me they would cancel this visa card and they would send me a new visa card. When they told me that the transaction involved fraud, I was scared to travel with that ticket, I then tried to contact Alaska Airlines and Turkish airline, but I couldn't get hold of anybody. So I then went airport in person and talked to a customer service personnel about canceling the ticket, but they found me in the system. Finally, I called the SCU to dispute the charge because they knew it involved the fraud. I gave them the statement, and they told me they would send me a decision. They then sent me a letter stating that the dispute was found in favor of the merchant. I then called them and asked them about their decision. Again, they asked me to give them a new statement to make a decision. On May 19th of 2022, I received a letter with a message about the dispute found in favor of the merchant. This bank is the worst, so I courage you to cancel all their credit cards because they will not help you if something goes wrong. I wanted to think this; they called and let me know the transaction involved the fraud, but yet they refused to help with the dispute. So I am still trying another way how to dispute this charge. I also tried to post her the credit card which they canceled but it didn't let me. Anyway, take my word as a religious text, so just to stop doing business with this bank. read more

Update: I found the link to the external payment portal, but it wasnt thru the main page on the app like the guy had said. I think I clicked on the right hand panel and then credit card info or something and then "more credit card info" and it took me to the outside portal. But still, why make it SO hard and frustrating to pay your loan or cc with them? To pay my loan i have to always google "pay seattle credit union loan" and then find the external site to do that. With the latest app update you can no longer pay your credit card unless you use an account with them. Its just a pain in the ass and I've lost an hour today trying to figure out how to pay my bill. No other company makes it so hard to give them money. You have to use an external website to pay your loan with them. Seems like an underhanded way to force you to transfer money to accounts with them. But ya at this moment i literally can't pay my visa unless i transfer money into an account with them first. This is my first time with a car loan through Seattle credit Union and first impression is not so great. My last bank took the payments out automatically on the 9th and all I had to do was make sure there was money in the account. Switching over I had no idea how to pay or if they would just take it out of my account. When I went to pay my bill online I was confused with how high it was but the lady on the phone said there was a late fee that she would wave so I thought that was a part of why it was so high. It turns out I'm paying for 2 months instead of one because that's how they automatically set it up since most of their customers like it that way. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH SEATTLE CREDIT UNION. If there was a ZERO STAR rating, I would have chosen ZERO STARS. I will be closing my accounts after only two years because of how terrible the service is. 1. They are ALWAYS insufficiently staffed. Some branches have no tellers at all. When tellers are available, the computer system is down. For my last five deposits, I've never spent LESS than 20 minutes in the branch, despite being the ONLY customer. They ALWAYS have problems with their computers. 2. One day, I had to travel to THREE SEPARATE BRANCHES just to find a teller who accepted deposits. 3. The ATM machine are often down. 4. They recently changed their rules to ALL check deposits are held for God knows how long. They have no problem charging you outrageous fees if your account is overdrawn, but they make it as difficult as possible to actually make deposits. 5. One time a teller issued me a cashier's check for my rent and they didn't withdraw the funds from my account like you're supposed to do for a cashier's check. I asked them what the problem was and they OPENLY LIED TO MY FACE. Finally, after several days of runaround, they were able to withdraw the funds and my cashier's check did not bounce. I don't recall how long I've been with them, but it's got to be at least 10 years. I've always had a positive experience with them. Everyone I've ever dealt with has been exceptionally responsive & courteous. I feel like they go above and beyond to make my banking needs go smoothly. My recent banking matter was getting a car loan. I've had one with SCU several years ago and they were able to give me a good rate, so I decided to go with them again. One of their loan specialists, Sarah, was always on top of the process. Even when her shift was over, Sarah had her colleagues take care of me so I was never in limbo. I was able to go to a dealership, test drive the car I wanted, and Sarah made sure I was able to take it home the same evening. Best car buying experience ever! Few days later, we reviewed my credit line and Sarah was able to increase my line - another example of going above and beyond - without any hassles. I would definitely recommend SCU. read more

What can I say about Seattle Credit Union? Well, I'll start by saying that this is truly a banking institution that actually treats you like a human and not just a number. Don't get my wrong -- I love the branch manager at my old bank -- we're Facebook friends and keep up with each other in the business community; it actually felt like I was cheating on her when I was thinking about leaving -- but Seattle Credit Union made some offers I couldn't refuse. I've had some student loan issues that I've been working out over several years-- but you take those out and my credit is excellent with no late pays. Because of said student loans, I have had to put up with extremely high loan rates, as well as flat-out rejection, even though my credit score itself is in the high 600s. I figured it was time to just see what sort of refinance offers I could get on the car since my credit score went up again -- so I ran it through a search site. Seattle Credit Union came back at 4% while the next option up was 8% and it went up from there. I had been at 14% -- these guys saved me 10% APR on my car loan! I figured they were pretty great and liked my credit profile, so I looked into their credit card products -- I was approved for a credit card that was easily half the APR of my existing cards with double the credit limit with no fees. Again, super awesome. With that said, I looked into checking and savings -- and decided to move everything over to them. Their checking account is free, pays a few bucks in dividends, and the mobile app and online banking package they use is actually super slick. No fees of any kind on the checking. They offered me a general line of credit to tie into it as well, which my old bank could never do. So now I have all my major finances in one place, and the rates are awesome. I just cancelled an older high-rate credit card because of these guys, and actually am feeling great about my money management situation. The car will be paid off nearly a year earlier due to the amount of interest saved. The *only* downside is that I'm in Olympia and the closest branch is Southcenter -- that said, their online products are very solid -- and they are part of Co-Op so if I need to drop off cash or deposit at an ATM, I can do so at WSECU or the other credit unions down here. They've done an excellent job of actually analyzing my entire credit file and not just the score or the line that pops up mentioning I've had issues on a student loan account, and I feel like I'm being treated like an actual human. Must read! Lets start with me saying me and my spouse has been with this bank for about 8 years now. In the time we've been here we've had and have cars through this bank without any issues. We've never had any issues with our accounts and just a few issues with a couple employees who no longer work there. Then things to a sudden turn for the worse just last year when we applied for a home loan thru this bank. We were approved for our first loan that we found out we weren't eligible for 2 weeks before the closing. Then our second loan we were approved for but not eligible for 1 week before closing. After getting a senior bank rep involved and them getting there bosses involved we got approved a for our loan 2 days before closing. Now that we've purchased our home we've had nothing but issues with this bank. So we opened up a checking account specifically for our house in January 2020 but haven't received our bank cards for. I've talked to several different reps several different times at the call center and was told our cards were in the mail. It's August 31st and still no cards. My spouse contacted the bank about a fraudulent charge that someone made down in California for take food from a restaurant back in February. She was told that she had provide evidence that she wasn't the one who made the charges. The charges that were made on her card had the food delivered to a address at some apartments in California and we live in Seattle. After a month of fighting with the bank they eventually gave her money back. Shortly after that the bank all of sudden wanted us to verify information that they already had for our car loan that we've had with them for the last 4 years. In April I was locked out of all of my accounts and when contacting the call center no one could tell me why or what happened to cause me to be locked out. The final straw was when we found out by accident after checking my account at the end of May that our mortgage payments had went up. We were never contacted by anyone at the bank about our payments going or why they went up. So I called the bank call center and they didn't have a clue so the had the mortgage department contact me. The lady that was over our mortgage called me the next day. She said she ran an yearly analysis in January or February for the upcoming year and it showed our taxes would be going up. She also stated we had missed a month of PMI but she couldn't provide me with that information. I asked why we didn't get notified of any us this and was told she thought she sent us paperwork. She told me that she just decided to add whatever she claimed we owed to our payments without talking to us. At this point I'm furious and she made it seem as if it wasn't a big deal nor any skin off her back. So I asked her to have her manager contact me and to send me copies of all the paperwork. This was back on June 29th 2020 and I haven't heard a word from anyone from the bank. She sent me paperwork about her annual analysis but nothing about the missed PMI. I've sent emails to numerous people including the VP of this bank and not a peep so were done with this bank. It's sad because this place started off as a nice place who seemed to care about there customers. Now its no different than the big chain banks who only cares about having your money. It speaks volumes to us when we can't one response back from the VP down about ongoing issues at this bank that they refuse to address. Obviously there are major issues from seeing all the negative reviews popping up all over social media sites. So we will be closing all of our accounts and transferring our loans else where and so will over a dozen of our friends whom we referred to this bank. Tyrone E. read more

I've been with SMCU for two years now. Held a checking account, credit card, (nominal savings account), and two separate car loans. All of the above have been exceptional. Refinanced my first car loan from another credit union and dropped the rate from ~4% APR to 2.74%. Auto payments have been easy to setup negating most of my in-person visits. Opened a credit card for a balance transfer /consolidation of two other cards for 0% interest for several months. Also have auto payments setup. Most recently traded in my first car and financed a replacement with Jane Stone's exceptional help! She literally called me en route to the dealer to let me know a requested increase in the pre-approved amount went through. They beat the nearest credit Union's offer on the new loan by 0.4% -- which adds up over the life of the loan and is competitive with current federal interest rate hikes. Can't be happier with my experience at SMCU. read more

Quite simply Seattle CU has been a slow burning dumpster fire for years now. Especially ever since they moved locations in Tukwila. Their service, the wait times on the phone and constant crashes via mobile and online banking have become common place. I have been with Seattle CU for over 15 years now, they used to be outstanding and a credit union I would highly recommend. Sadly that isn't the case now and hasn't been for at least 5 years now.
