I just don't even know with this place anymore, sat on the phone for 15 minutes waiting to get someone to take my call. I called three weeks prior and placed to get a new debit card and lo and behold, THEY NEVER EVEN SENT ONE. So yea that's awesome. Get this... I drove all the way to the actual branch to get the debit card and their card machine was "broken" or faulty... thanks for letting me know ahead of the time guys. Apparently Lynwood is one of the only locations that currently has a working machine, which is what like 40 mins outside of Seattle? I thought this was SEATTLE credit union not Lynwood credit union. Definitely switching banks after continual failures occurring like this one. read more

The worst bank I have ever worked with. I have been with the so-called bank for about six years; unfortunately, one of my colleague teachers recommend that I open an account with her. To make it short, I purchased an airline ticket online for $ 956.17, and then, as soon as I bought I called the SCU credit card department with a message of a fraud involved with that transaction. Then, they told me that they told me they would cancel this visa card and they would send me a new visa card. When they told me that the transaction involved fraud, I was scared to travel with that ticket, I then tried to contact Alaska Airlines and Turkish airline, but I couldn't get hold of anybody. So I then went airport in person and talked to a customer service personnel about canceling the ticket, but they found me in the system. Finally, I called the SCU to dispute the charge because they knew it involved the fraud. I gave them the statement, and they told me they would send me a decision. They then sent me a letter stating that the dispute was found in favor of the merchant. I then called them and asked them about their decision. Again, they asked me to give them a new statement to make a decision. On May 19th of 2022, I received a letter with a message about the dispute found in favor of the merchant. This bank is the worst, so I courage you to cancel all their credit cards because they will not help you if something goes wrong. I wanted to think this; they called and let me know the transaction involved the fraud, but yet they refused to help with the dispute. So I am still trying another way how to dispute this charge. read more

These guys are awful! I've been with them over 12 years now. They and the bank act like their doing YOU a favor by banking there. I received several NSF Fees, asked them to waive (Can't remember the last time I had one) They waived one. The others weren't because "Your account isn't set up for that." They are the only bank out of 4 that I have that sends you an email "Approving" your deposit. Even the way they phrase things on their website, We're doing YOU a favor. One of my banks has a no NSF fee and actually gives you a personal line for thirty days, they offered, I didn't ask. I had another issue with SMCU, their old name and I remember I had to push and escalate the situation to be treated fairly. Go somewhere else, I am. read more

I have been with Seattle CU for over a decade, and over the last 5 years they have become horrible. I hope their leadership will read these reviews. Over the past 5 years at least the bank leadership has significantly changed the credit union from a people oriented personal banking institution to a AI robot. Replacing tellers with glorified ATM machines inside the bank and allowing their online banking to fall completely in disrepair. As it currently stands you can't even search your account by payee (only date or amount). I have literally had someone cash a personal check twice and the bank never caught it - until I flagged it. As a business owner they are horrendous. Literally just one location to dropbox checks (the machines make you deposit them one by one). As of this week the bank has completely lost connection with Intuit literally 15 days before tax day - meaning our business can not access Quickbooks and our family can not access quicken in order to prepare for our taxes. There is literally NO EXCUSE for a bank to operate this poorly. read more

I have been a customer of Seattle Credit Union for several years and I have been pleased over and over again and with incredibly attentive service, excellent banking policies, and most importantly the refreshing feeling of being treated like a human being. Everything about my experiences with Seattle Credit Union so far have the undertone of cooperation. They want to provide services that benefit both of us, not just them. Never once have I seen the crocodile smile that is so common from your average corporate bank employee. I have been a member of Seattle CU 17 years now. They used to be a pleasure to work with, their locations were helpful and calling into them for help was quick and easy. Over the last 5 years or so, none of this has been the case anymore. Going to the their locations is USELESS and a total HASSLE. Reaching them over the phone is NIGHTMARE. Using their online banking and mobile app is FRUSTRATING to say the very least. Their call center is filled with people who honestly have NO clue what they are doing or how to help. I would NOT suggest anybody go through Seattle CU for any reason any more. VERY DISAPPOINTING read more

went In and paid off my loan and then received my monthly statement 3 weeks later and found out they put the money in my savings. called in to get it transfered to the loan and get the $5 back in interest. I was told sorry we cant do that by member Service manager Alicia. Now I am going to file Attorney General complaint. BBB complaint and every other company I can complain to about this. I'm updating this review because the branch moved to Thornton Place recently. New buildings are always nice. The structure itself is pleasant and has that "brand new" feel. There's parking out front but it can be problematic because delivery trucks like to park in the middle of the road. There's a garage there as well but that can be crowded depending on movie traffic for the theater next door. If all else fails, there is street parking and a park and ride lot. The customer service is a little different because I've noticed some new staff members and that's a good thing. Each time I've been there, the wait hasn't been that long and tellers have been friendly and definitely more helpful than before. The one thing I miss is the Keurig machine they used to have at the old location. It was nice to come in on Saturday, do my banking, and grab a cup of coffee. read more

I went to the Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union in Thornton Place as a favor to my friend Theresa who needed me to sign paperwork regarding her bank account. I met the bank manager, Wendi Fracasso, who was tremendously helpful. She prepared the paperwork in a timely manner and even accompanied me to Theresa's nursing facility so my friend could finalize the forms with her signature. I grew up in Ireland and am familiar with people going out of their way to help neighbors, but what Wendi did was above and beyond the norm. It's truly rare to find someone so caring, and seeing the tears in Theresa's eyes that day confirmed how much Wendi's actions meant to her. Wendi Fracasso is an invaluable asset to SMCU. She is a better testament to the credit union's customer service than any ad campaign. I solidly recommend Wendi Fracasso and SMCU to anyone with banking needs. read more

Seattle Credit Union is not good, do your banking elsewhere. My experience with them has been poor. I am upset with them for many reasons, but these are a few: -Their fraud protection mechanisms on my credit card are ridiculous​. My credit card has been declined numerous times in many different businesses​​, even at large reputable companies based in Seattle itself​, because SCU's software often inappropriately flags legitimate​ transactions as fraudulent​. Despite my calls to them, SCU has not resolved this issue for me, and has informed me that the fraud department does not speak directly to customers. I've been told that this issue will be addressed on a case-by-case basis, which is annoying. Basically every time my card gets declined, I have to call into the bank and ask for that specific transaction to be approved, something that's obviously time draining and which does not address the embarrassment​ of having my card declined even though​ the balance is sufficient​. -Their business hours are limited​, after 6PM you cannot speak to anyone at the bank, and the third-party company contracted to answer questions about the credit cards 24/7 are typically unhelpful and unable to do much -I've been wrongly assessed​ credit card fees which SCU refuses to remove, acting in the dishonest manner of a large bank read more

Phil was able to get me the financing I needed for my new car, and did so with fast, courteous and efficient service. When you walk in, you feel like you have been there many times. Seattle Credit Union's customer service during the pandemic has been exceptionally poor. When you try to call them the lines are always busy or there is a 20-30 minutes wait. Currently I can't access my on-line account for unknow reasons. I have sent the credit union at least 3 mails in the last three months and not one of them has been answered. I spoke to someone on the phone and they said they would contact back to answer my questions. I never heard back. If I wasn't so entangled with the credit union I would withdraw all of my funds and cancel all my accounts. Extremely dissappoiniting after years of good service. read more

After telling them about just getting laid off, they offered me a very bad deal. Thank you so much for lying to me and wasting my time. Their service during Covid is horrible. The Lynnwood branch is closed and requires an appointment. It took 3 days for me to receive a call back. While waiting, I called their customer service line. It took over 40 minutes to connect to an actual person. My other credit union is open. They will be getting my business. read more

My review is for Seattle Credit Union overall, not the branch, because I seldom do in-person transactions. I joined Seattle Credit Union over 20 years ago, and have never regretted my decision. I love their excellent loan rates, account management and the local roots. I've never had any problems with the Credit Union these many years and recommend them unreservedly to friends. On the few occasions when I have used the Thornton Branch in person, the staff have been friendly, accommodating and efficient. Seattle Credit Union is the best! read more

Seattle Credit Union sent me a letter, asking if I would like to refi my car. The percentage they offered was, and the payment was $100.00 less than what I was paying. I gave them all of my info, and about 2 weeks later they said I was approved, the problem is, it is over DOUBLE what they said it would be, with a higher payment. I gave these jokers my info, and let them check my credit, only to bait and switch me. I will not have dealings with dishonest scammers. read more

I was a little annoyed when they called to make a big deal about depositing a check with my maiden name on it vs my married name since the check was only for $1. This bank is kind of a sick joke to us since my husband never got things done with a satisfied "OK" after they CONFIRMED everything verbally, no matter we are at the physical branch or we call the hotline. I went here for an auto loan awhile back and the experience wasn't horrible as it was my first auto loan so I did have to jump through some hoops. Well I need a new auto loan in order to trade in my current car. I applied online over the weekend and called in the morning today to get this process started as I need to pick up a car by end of the week. Well I like how I call at 9am and my loan officer is in a meeting but she'll get right back to me when her meeting is over... its 2:20pm PST and I called again and of course she's speaking with someone else but not in a meeting. Did she call me back? No she didn't she simply can't follow up with someone who is a RETURNING customer. If this is how this credit union treats RETURNING customers then maybe I'll take my business elsewhere. I don't see how its hard to give a call or email back... Considering SARAH works 9-5pm... She has less than 3 hours to give me a call back...Safe to say if I DO continue with Seattle Credit Union it won't be with SARAH. Quite lazy and lacking attention to detail if you ask me. read more

After the final straw with Bank of America, we decided to take the plunge and go credit union. My wife's work had an affliation with SMCU and this is near our home. Needless to say we are extremely happy and excited about our decision. We opened 3 accounts with Sherry and she was fantastic. It was quick, efficient and she was very pleasant and helped us make the best decision account wise. Having spent the early part of my career in banking, I know good banks and I know good people. I had a bunch of bonds to redeem with some exceedingly complicated stuff related to a name change, and everyone I dealt with was exceptionally professional and friendly and truly went above and beyond to get all my issues resolved and help me with my transactions. If I had written this review a year ago, it would have been a five star review no question. When I left my "big bank" to join the credit union years ago I was very happy with the change and subsequently my accounts grew from my personal account, to a home mortgage, to a business account. I always loved the personal touch that I would have seeing the same smiling face of my teller each week when I would go into the Northgate branch. I felt like SMCU offered the kind of customer service that you just didn't seem to get anymore. Sadly, you don't even get it there anymore. In what I can only assume to be an effort to cut costs, they have cut back to just one teller or maybe two if you are lucky. The wait is too long. What used to be a friendly weekly interaction that I would look forward to has now turned into a question of whether I am better off just using the ATM and skipping the line. It saddens me that another source of human interaction and personable job is being fulfilled by a machine. read more

I'm taking my proposed direct deposit and existing funds out of this bank for bad customer service. I am even taking my car loan out from here because Employee Kaitlyn Higgins treated me with disdain when I inquired about refinancing my vehicle with them saying that my credit score was not above 700 even though my credit is very close to that and was much lower than that when SMCU approached me to finance my car. She used dog whistle politic terms like, "you claim to work at this company" and "you're not eligible" .... I have a good friend with worse credit and a lower rate currently with SMCU. So bye SMCU I tried to bring all of my assets over but thanks to Ms. Higgins you have lost a potentially long time customer. Now it's time for me to buy a home and SMCU was going to be my go to people. read more
