These are a great experience for a family reunion or little kids. You get to be neat water and go around Lake Union. You can also bring food and have lunch on a sunny day bringing the umbrella down and puttback up when wind comes around. Just a stick to move with steady hand as it moves easily to different directions. Be careful of waves from other boats. A really fun activity to spend out this summer!! We took plenty of pictures too. Bring shades. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Patient with babies. My only notes would be that the one we took had only one gear. Ummm, why did it took me this long to discover this? I think I found this through Instagram, you know, it's one of those things that are so cute, you can't avoid being interested in it. My friend's kid wasn't interested in going until we showed her photos and of course who doesn't want to get into a donut. As probably see in photos, it's a round shaped boat with the table in the center that you can bring snacks or whatever you typically would to a picnic. It's quite a lovely activity to enjoy during nice summer days. The boat has a smaller motor on it which makes it slow, but that is what I actually enjoy, just a nice gentle cruise on the water. A friend with a boat once told me that the best days to be on a boat to avoid crowds out on the water was weekdays because, "the only people that can take their boats out on weekdays are retired people and drug dealers". Hahaha. The staff here was very friendly and patient as we all didn't know what the hell we were doing, nobody had experience driving a boat, but we figured it out. The booking was in 2 hours increments, it was $200, but you can have up to 6 people and if you split it up, it's very reasonable considering it cost like a grand to rent an actual boat with a captain, it cost even more to own a boat which you can't even use it 10 months of the year in Seattle. Our boat ran out of battery power for the motor and we ended up having to get towed in and rescued. Everything was clean and it is a fun experience but it was a bit scary having the motor due on. That said, they are electric which means we didn't have to smell gas our trip. Bring snacks, water and a hat. Two suggestions for the company. -decorate the boats to look like donuts!!! Especially after the names of each boat. Sprinkles, glazed confused etc... -offer a smattering off donut holes or donuts. read more

Our family had an amazing time at Seattle Donut Boats! I randomly heard about them from an article about where to find the best donuts around. (note: you do have to bring your own donuts now but it's worth it) Our host John was SUPER nice! We booked the one hour sunset option and unfortunately between the fog/clouds/smoke we couldn't see the sky but it was still gorgeous We will try again in the summer time. We had an amazing time cruising around SLU in the donut boat last weekend! Definitely recommend this if you're looking for an afternoon of stress-free and fun with friends on the water. The seats were so comfy and there's a large table in the middle where you can put your drinks and snacks. We also brought some board games to play. The boat goes very slow so you don't have to worry anything might fly off. It will take you at least 30 minutes to go to gas work so plan ahead! Another plus point is the White Swan pub is right nearby the boat-launch so you can have foods and (really great) drinks with friends before or after. read more

OMG! This was so amazing! I was looking for something different to celebrate my birthday and heard about this. I'm so glad we did this, and on my birthday! Booking online was super easy. Getting there was actually pretty convenient too. They're tucked into a cute little corner of Lake Union near MOHAI. We rented a boat for 2 hours and did the grand tour of Lake Union. The boat is sturdy and easy to steer. All the little boathouses on the lake are cute! The view of GasWorks was awesome! Seattle Seaplane Tours take off and land in the middle of the lake frequently but they were excellent pilots and did not crash into us or any other boats. We picked a good day too. We went on Monday so there wasn't a lot of other boats on the lake. Lots of standup paddle boarders and rowers, but an only a few boats. We packed a picnic lunch and chowed down while we floated around the lake. The time goes by fast. If you want to see all the lake book for 2 hours. If you just want to float and hang out 1 hour is just fine. This is the best way to see Seattle! read more

So much fun! I did one yesterday with some friends and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to check into the boat. Everything is paid for and all the waivers are done online so you literally just show up and get on the boat. The staff was incredibly friendly and very helpful with showing us how to maneuver our doughnut. They wipe down the boats in between guest reservations which was nice to see given Covid. So much fun and a great day out on the water! We took a group of 5 out on the afternoon of a 90 degree day and the umbrella gave us plenty of shade. It was fun to see all of the floatplanes taking off and landing right in front of us as well as see all of the awesome houseboats along the way. We went as a family birthday party for a great two hour trip on the new Seattle Donut Boats. First thing to know- there is no donuts. The boat is shaped like a donut and you all sit around a table. There is a small electric motor that drives the boat and is both quiet and slow. LOL It took us around 1/2 hr. to get from South Lake Union to the Gasworks Park. We were passed by Kayakers, Paddle Boarders and all sorts of boats. Many took pictures of us in our cute Donut. Fortunately we picked a great day and it was not too hot with a slight overcast. They do have an umbrella over you which you can take down - it comes down easy - hand crank on bar holding it up. We brought Cheese and Meat with Cupcakes for dessert - to enjoy as we leisurely (very leisurely) cruised the lake enjoying the sites. It is a great way to get up close to the famous house boats, watching Seattle's skyline including the Space Needle and relax. I would recommend it for a nice relaxing day on the lake. read more

This business is located in a marina at the edge of Seattle. Look for a little kiosk close to the water next to a bar. Check in was quick and easy. There were waivers that needed to be signed and then the owner walked us through the operation of the donut boat and also gave us some tips for using the boat in the bay. It was a bit of a windy day so managing the boat was a bit of a challenge but I got the swing of it after a few minutes. Even though the day was kind of gloomy, we were able to enjoy the ride. We got to see the Sleepless in Seattle home, Gas Works, and travel around the waterway to see all the boathouses up close. We brought food and drinks with us to make it more relaxing. We were scheduled for a two hour block and with the winds blowing, it took us that amount of time to make it from the donut boat dock to Gas Works and back to the donut boat dock. I was able to get a great deal from Groupon for five people to ride in a boat. This was a nice experience for us to enjoy amidst the pandemic and all. read more

If I could give this business zero stars I absolutely would. After booking the 7:45 to 8:45 sunset cruise I was contacted 10 days later via email by one of the owners, John Fahey, asking if I would move my cruise time from 7:45-8:45pm to 6:30-7:30pm due to a glitch in their system which overbooked sunset cruises. I then received a phone call shortly after the email from a female asking me the same question. I agreed to move my reservation to the 6:30pm leave time. I also changed a dinner reservation to accommodate their change in schedule. I then arrived at their facility at 6:15pm on the day of my reservation where two minors were working. They proceeded to tell me that the owners moved up the sunset cruises without blocking off the later sail times which caused confusion. I also noticed that my reservation was written on their schedule for the 7:45pm sail time. They then told me they had a "walk up" at 5:30 that was supposed to return by 6:30 but they had not returned yet. When I asked to speak with their boss they spent 20 minutes calling multiple phone numbers without anyone taking their calls. They also tried to call the late to return boat (that was the 1 hour "walk up") and 30 minutes later finally spoke with them to be told that they would not return the boat until 7:30pm. As I had moved my dinner reservation from 5:30pm to 7:45pm to accommodate the owners of Seattle Donut Boat Co. I had to decide between missing my reservation or hoping that a boat would return by 7:45pm. After waiting for 45 mins from our 6:15pm arrival we decided that the experience had been ruined by this poorly managed business. As an Active Duty service member currently in an out of state position that has limited ability to take time off I was greatly disappointed with this business and the lack of professionalism from the owners. Clients beware when booking with this company as your reservation may not be honored as intended when you book and pre-pay for this experience a month in advance. read more

Here is the good to great review along with the not so good comments. This is a terrific company. We were greeted warmly, checked in, and oriented to the donut boat nicely. The arrival back to the boat dock was also beautifully handled. However, the donut boats are not so good. We booked two hours and understood we could go around Lake Union, but could not. The boats are VERY slow and obviously not meant to sail through the water. We saw only about half of the lake area. And, they advertise the umbrella in the boat, but ours was a wreck. We had to wrap bungie cords around the handle to keep the umbrella up, and the umbrella had rips that precluded proper anchoring. So, if you're looking for a fun time in a nice boat with great service to bob around the lake and see some of it, this is great. If you would like to see all of the lake area in two hours, this is not a good option. Forgot to mention, the lake has float planes taking off and landing frequently. I know about that and the lake, but our donut-boat was so slow that we could not move fast enough to clear the take-off/landing area quickly. As a result, a float plane took off just over our heads. I'm thinking our boat should be able to move fast enough to totally clear the water runway. read more

Really fun experience, definitely worth the Groupon price! We were able to fit 8 of us in this little donut shaped boat run by a small electric outboard that we operate ourselves. There is a small table in the middle of the boat, and an umbrella for shade if needed (which can be folded down if not needed). While the boat isn't built for speed, our two hour excursion was sufficient to allow us to get from the south end of lake union to gasworks park, while meandering along the east shore to have at all the cool house boats. They allow you to bring food, so we packed up some banh mi sandwiches, watermelon, corn on the cob, and kettle corn for our leisurely lake excursion that doubled as dinner with a view. It was fun being out in the middle of the lake with the hydroplanes and giant yachts. With us in the mix, it was definitely an eclectic mix of sojourner a on the lake. Another great Groupon find! I think I paid a little over $100 dollars for two hours for a Saturday. Check in was easy, workers were nice, and even allowed us bathroom breaks in between sessions. This is such a fun summer activity! We rented a donut boat this summer for my brother's birthday and we had an amazing afternoon! It was such an easy process-they gave my brother about three minutes of instruction on how to drive the boat, and we were off! We weren't exactly sure what to expect after seeing it online but the boat is incredibly sturdy, safe, and lots of fun. We brought out a picnic and we were prepared to have our food flying everywhere as we bounced around in the water, but that did not happen, even on a day when there was a little wind. They provide blankets in case it gets chilly, but we didn't even end up using them on a 70 degree day. I can't wait to go again next year! read more

Fantastic activity on Lake Union. The young ladies upfront were very nice and professional while checking us in and then taught us about the boat. Very intuitive even for someone who's never driven a boat. The trip around the lake ta about 2 hrs and we enjoyed ourselves the whole time.
