We were staying in Wallingford #5…read more The overall quality was good for a short term stay and I think it is a bit cheaper than equivalent options on Airbnb. However, the suite did not have a dishwasher, AC (it had a fan), and hairdryer. The vacuum cleaner was smelly and old. However, it had HD tv, cable, and internet. We also had a satisfactory maintenance experience; they repaired the bathtub tap leakage after contacting them. I had read reviews about people experiencing the invasion of their privacy by the landlord checking their apartment without previous notice. Just wanted to also mention we did not have any problem regarding that and the staff were nice people. I also wanted to mention that our security deposit was 600 which was returned fully. They received 250 cleaning fee at the beginning which was separate from the security deposit. The only problem is that they warn you that if the apartment is not cleaned (bathroom, kitchen, ...) before leaving they will deduct excessive cleaning fee from your security deposit (they also say the staff will be there just to do a light housekeeping.) I think this warning is a bit absurd because even if they hire a third party company for cleaning the apartment, $250 would be enough for cleaning rather than a light housekeeping.

Our last two nights of our journey were spent in Seattle at the Shafer Baillie mansion. I would highly recommend staying here. The location was great for getting to downtown and all around. It is close to the Cap Hill neighborhood with shops and restaurants. There is plenty of street parking in the vicinity. The mansion itself is part of what was known as Millionaire's Row. It was built in 1914 and has been well cared for over the years. When we came back from one evening out, we all gathered in the Library and set up some charcuterie and wine to share from our travels. It was so cozy sitting all together and chatting about our adventures. The rooms are historic with modern conveniences. Our room was the Queen Ann Hill. We slept soundly in our comfortable 4 poster bed. There was a helpful step stool for me to climb up as I am vertically challenged. It has original pushbotton light switches. It had a beautiful full length mirror. There was a flatscreen TV, but we had so many wonderful activities we did not use it. The bathroom was updated but still fit with the historic look. There were two showerheads in the tiled shower. Breakfast was lovely. I, personally, have a great deal of food allergies. There was ample selection that I was able to enjoy just as much as anyone else. There were breads and pastries, jams and spreads, yogurt and fresh berries, and a hot breakfast dish. Hard boiled eggs were available as well as cheeses and meats. There was a coffee bar that was available all day that also had tea and cocoa. We sat at the long dining table enjoying each others company and conversation. We got to meet some of the other guests which added to the experience. If we find ourselves back in Seattle, this is where I will want to stay.

Both are in the heart of bustling Ballard Ave, where most of the restaurants, cafes, boutiques and bars are located. Ballard Inn is a small historic building, nicely repurposed to a hotel. Not all the rooms have a private bathroom; I phoned ahead to make sure we had our own! Our room had an exterior door directly to street access on Vernon. The room was nicely-appointed, clean & we felt safe. The cost included unlimited access to the beautiful Olympic Athletic Club, located across the street at the (substantially!) more expensive new Hotel Ballard. Our stay was Weds to Friday, thus the neighborhood was quiet yet it can get bustling during our famous Ballard Sunday Farmers Market, or Friday & Saturday nights when the bars get busy. https://share.icloud.com/photos/0d48cYvQUbCr6C2tPlU9rlbKQ

What I do not understand is why there are not more 1-star reviews…read more First, they hired a great photographer. The pictures they provide either are from more than 10 years ago or they spent a LOT of time and money on photoshop. At one point this was doubtless a nice place and well cared. This is not the case now. The primary photo is well cropped and does not come close to reality. Check the photos I provided from this year vs what they show. Second, they mention street parking, however they recommend the $15 parking pass. Since I would never street park in that part of town, I of course purchased the parking pass. I assumed they had a small area for parking and wanted to be sure I was covered. Wrong. The $15 fee is for a permit to park on the street. NO guarantee of a parking space anywhere near the Gaslight or anywhere at all. Some may find this acceptable, I do not. Third, there is nothing on the first page of their website about no off-street parking. After arriving and finding no parking, along with the obvious run-down condition of the property, I went in to speak with the owners feeling like it would be better to find a cleaner property with parking. NO, they won't issue any refunds, stating "This is a small business, and we can't afford to refund. They also stated that the email they send a couple days before check-in warns of street parking. Yes, it did mention parking, 8 paragraphs down. My bad, didn't read through the entire email. Of course, that email was sent a couple days before check-in, well within the 2 week, "NO Cancellation" period. Bottom line, we have your money, and we are keeping it. Rather than forfeit the $320 one-night stay, I thought we would hope to find parking when we returned from dinner with friends. I should have let the money go... We made the further mistake of going to dinner before going up to our room. Check other negative reviews, worn, dirty, stained floors and furnishings. Motel 6 might have been a better choice. I provided a few pictures, including their header photo and what reality looks like. The musty, moldy smell on the second floor and specifically our room was horrid. And I can't forget the all-night serenade of police sirens running up and down the street. At least 12 times during our evening stay. I would say that the location isn't bad, but the fact is that within a block and a half the homeless have taken over the streets and park. Although you could park with them about 3 blocks down, no telling what you would get when you went back. I travel for a living, this trip was to see a surgeon at Harbourview. I wanted to make it as nice as possible for my wife and the purpose of our visit. Thought this would be better than my usual corporate digs. Can't express how disappointing it was. I failed to read the 1-star reviews as there are many who seem to be happy with their stay. I simply hope anyone reading this will look deeper before booking something that is as overrated as anything I have seen.

Location is good and so is the place itself. The prices are okay for the area and quality. Cool thing about it for many staying here is the location of course. The most notable local attraction is the Fremont Troll, which is only a few blocks away and is a good place for pictures. Has a cozy and comfortable feel to it. The staff here are unbelievably kind and understanding, especially given everything that we were all going through; including their accommodation for the changing dates of our stays. At one point the staff even went so far as to give us a tour of their ADA accessible rooms and had the pull-out sofa made up into a bed for us. The hotel itself is walking-distance convenient to nearly everything in the U District, from restaurants, shopping, grocery stores, the university and its medical facilities, including an Emergency Room. Of course, this is an urban area, so you should be prepared to encounter some colorful characters when walking around. On that note, the hotel itself does have at least one security guard, and the doors, underground garage, and elevators are secured by keycard. Like other Residence Inn properties, the rooms all feature fully-equipped kitchenettes, with full-sized refrigerator/freezers, dishwashers, a stovetop, full-sized microwave, and all the cookware, dishware and glassware you could need. The rooms are all very clean, and any problems are fixed promptly (we had a thermostat randomly go out in one of our rooms; it was replaced in under an hour). The rooms are remarkably quiet. Each day a delicious full buffet breakfast is available, with some rotating items for weekdays and the weekend. They do not have a make-your-own waffle station, but they provide pre-cooked waffles on weekends and a breakfast sandwich on weekdays. They also have sausage, cereal, muffins, bagels, fruit, vegan sausage...a very wide variety, such that even the pickiest eaters will be satisfied. The on-site gym is well-equipped with dumbbells, two adjustable benches, a weight stack cable machine, several treadmills, ellipticals, and stationary bikes, along with medicine balls, exercise balls, and a foam roll. There is no pool, hot tub, or sauna. Each floor features two washers and dryers that use an app to pay for each load and cycle. Detergent is available at the sundry market in the lobby. The hotel's underground parking garage features EV charges, but has a 6'8" height restriction. The hotel does have several spaces for overheight vehicle parking, but it is not in a secure garage, the spaces are in a surface lot directly behind the hotel. These spaces are not necessarily for oversized vehicles; we had multiple instances when other vehicles had parked on the lines or across spaces, making it impossible to use the adjacent spaces. The front desk staff are incredibly understanding about this, and happy to help find and cover the costs for alternate spaces. Bottom line: if you need to stay in this part of town, and especially if you will have an extended stay, this is the place to be.
