I made the switch to naturopathy with Dr. Tressa Pinkleton this year, and wow, am I glad that I did, because my faith in healthcare has been reignited and I've been sharing my experience here with all of my friends and coworkers! Honestly, I didn't know what to expect from my visit, as I'd heard mixed reviews about naturopathy and to its "legitimacy," but I have to say, I haven't felt as heard, healthy, or in tune with my body as I have for the last six months! I'd been having some trouble with stress, anxiety, and weight gain and had a feeling that something in my body was out of whack. Dr. Pinkleton was knowledgeable, down-to-earth, patient, and honestly, just overall really cool. I called to book an appointment for CST with Dr. Pinkleton, based on information on their website indicating she provides those services. The receptionist, Jessica, called me back and told me that Dr. Pinkleton doesn't do that and she never heard of those services in the office. I asked for clarification, as I was confused about why their website would specifically state she is specially trained if she has never provided those services. Dr. Pinkleton is one of the smartest people I've met. She spends a lot of time with me, checks in on me, really cares and definitely knows her stuff. I can trust her to listen to me and how I know my own body but she has also taught me things about anatomy I didn't even know as a bio nerd. We are working on some chronic health issues and circumstantial depression from a naturopathic lens but also getting all the tests I need and meds I need and want them, referrals for specialties etc. I used to see Dr. Barnow (who is so amazing for women's health) for many years and when I came back to the practice from out of town I somehow wonderfully wound up with Pinkleton. Fresh out of my first visit. I've had serious health issues since May 30th, to include septic shock. I have stumped entire infectious disease teams and seen sixteen (16!) MD's with no help. I love the naturopath that I saw there. I have gone back several times to see Dr. Teresa Evans. She was so thorough in all my visits and made me feel like she cared. Minus one star for Dr. Rick the acupuncturist. So impersonal and unwelcoming. He just wanted to get the appointment over with so he could get the hell out as soon as the visit was over. He even forgot to remove 2 very obvious pins. I could go on and on how terrible my experience was but I hate to rehash negative events in my life. Minus another star for the receptionist lady. Makes me wait and doesn't tell the doctor that I've arrived just because the doc isn't done with the patient before me. I had a great first visit today and it was my first naturopath visit as well. Dr. Pinkleton has a down to earth and direct, no-nonsense approach that I appreciated. She met me where I was at and she listened really well. I like how she also encouraged me to trust my own research on my issue. I have a traumatic brain injury and Seattle Naturopathy provides a very peaceful and comfortable setting for anyone who appreciates a relaxing atmosphere. I'm so glad that I followed Dr. Danika Odama from her previous clinic in Edmonds, to this clinic here in Seattle. Not only is Dr. Odama a true professional in all aspects, but she is the best listener of any doctor I've ever been to. She focuses her attention on what I am saying and she is also gifted at reading between the lines. She is an amazing doctor in so many ways. She is intuitive and highly skilled. She's especially gifted at listening to and reading my body, and comes up with a plan that's perfect for me. I love how my body physically responds to Dr. Odama's hands-on care, and her strategically placed acupuncture points. She returns calls in a timely fashion and that's a nice quality in a doctor. She reaches out to the community and volunteers her time professionally and personally to help others. She is an amazing doctor and an amazing human being. I admire and respect Dr. Odama and I am grateful to be in her care. On a scale of 1 to 10, she is an 11!! One of her best qualities - she's a dog lover!!! Dr. Pinkleton is very knowledgeable and caring, with a great bedside manner and listening skills. I slept a solid, uninterrupted 8 hours the night after our appointment and I think it's the result of the combination of treatments she had me try. She gave me several actionable pieces of advice to act on immediately and I actually feel a lot better already on Day 1! Dr. Pinkleton does counseling too on top of naturopathic care. I'm very disappointed to be submitting this review. I booked an appointment with Dr Rick last week, and at the time of booking the appointment asked what the charge would be. I was advised the uninsured rate was $185, but to provide my insurance details to see what the insured rate was. Today when I spoke to Jessica I was advised that the insured rate under my plan was $375. Our conversation followed the below script fairly closely: Me: "To confirm, you're proposing to charge me $375 which is over double the $185 rate for an uninsured patient". Jessica: "No, it depends on what your insurance covers" Me: "I know that my insurance requires a $40 +40% co-pay, so can calculate my co-pay on this fee as $174" Jessica: "There are also limits to certain services. It's like going to a BBQ restaurant and if you order some meat, some sides, some mac and cheese, you have to pay a bit for them all. So we can't calculate how much it will cost you or what you will get back" Me: "So if my insurance covers less than $190 then I will be paying more as an insured patient than as an uninsured patient" Jessica: "It depends on what your insurance pays. Some insurers have limits on certain items" Me: "But if they pay less than $190, I'll be paying the difference right?" Jessica: "Its a complicated system. There is no yes or no answer" Me: "But it seems clear than you are charging a 103% surcharge just because I am insured" Jessica: "That is not correct" Me: "How do you explain the price differential then. What can I expect to pay" Jessica: "It's a complicated system. No-one knows until we submit the claim". After 15 minutes of going round in circles trying to understand what I may actually be liable for, I had to cancel the appointment and will take my business elsewhere. Went here yesterday for a consultation and found the place empty and somewhat bland. The doctor we met with was nice enough but she's apparently not the pediatrician. This is odd considering we did a search specifically for naturopathic pediatricians and her name came up but either way, was no totally impressed. All the books say you really, really have to like your pediatrician and considering this was our first one, we'll take things in stride. I guess we have to meet with another doctor then? The lovely, calm waiting area, the competent and friendly staff, the gorgeous photos on the wall, and the kind and skilled practitioner all contributed to a superlative experience. I came in for acupuncture with Dr Rick, had a thorough and insightful intake interview and then had quite an effective treatment. I have already scheduled a series of acupuncture treatments and would certainly request other kinds of care should I need it. Scheduling electronically and by phone are both quite easy and quick. My husband and I worked with Emi Yamasaki, who delivered our son at the Seattle Center for Birth. She was great working with us through the whole pregnancy and delivery of our son. I appreciated that she kept me informed about what to expect during the pregnancy and any tests or procedures that she recommended. I felt like she was invested in my pregnancy & well-being. I believe that hospitals have a place for complications during pregnancies, but if you are having an unremarkable pregnancy, consider alternative options. I would highly recommend her. read more

I absolutely love this office and the two naturopaths/midwives that work here, Dr. Felice Barnow and Dr. Samantha Evans (not to be confused with Teresa Evans who is no longer there). I have spent most of my appointments with Dr. Barnow and she is the one who delivered my baby, so my review will be mostly aimed toward her. Pre-natal visits are given half an hour, and I think I went over a couple of times. They have been probably 95% punctual with me which is pretty darn good, in my opinion. Their schedule is also open enough you have a good pick of the days and times you want to come in which is really helpful. They listen, check you thoroughly, and are eager and happy to answer any and all questions you have. It feels personal, and I really felt like these women loved their jobs. They are very savvy about both conventional and natural health methodologies, treatments, and options. They will educate you on pros and cons of all choices and decisions you will need to make and SUPPORT your choices for the care you want. (I really don't know why you'd go to a regular MD who only knows one way when you can see an ND who knows both....) I had a fantastic home birth, just as I wanted, with Dr. Barnow in attendance. She was fantastic. She made me feel like a real pro was with me. She stayed strong as well as warm and encouraging. Her assistant was also fantastic; her name was Nicole, but I don't think she normally works with this office. They were so slick with getting my bed set up for the birth and even putting it back together afterward so I barely knew what was going on, and the next thing I knew, I was laying there with my baby and husband, thrilled (though tired) with a spotless bed underneath me. Two days later, Dr. Barnow visited me at my home which was FANTASTIC, as any of you have given birth will know. The last thing on earth you want is to get in the car with your tiny newborn for a doctor's visit (though you will have to go a week or so later). They really love to listen to you and offer so much encouragement and advice, and this is how I felt before, during, and after my birth. Maybe the best part is you can get all the care you need in one place: pre-natal, birth (they also have a birth center, if you prefer), post-partum, newborn, baby, toddler, and beyond. It's a family practice office, so they just take care of everyone. I didn't have to have a separate midwife and then pediatrician, plus my own doctor. Just Dr. Barnow or Dr. Evans, all in one place. Any health issues you have during your pregnancy can be fully treated here (well, except something really major I suppose). I got mastitis (breast infection) twice and did NOT have to be treated with antibiotics, like pretty much anyone else will be who gets it. This is very undesirable as a new mom because you really need your healthy bacteria intact at this time for yourself as well as to pass to your baby. You increase your risk of getting thrush, a much nastier and hard to treat infection of the breasts (it's like a yeast infection) if you go through a course of antibiotics at this time. They gave me a natural medicine which cleared it up in a few days. This is EXACTLY the reason I wanted to get my care through an office like this, and I really got everything I hoped I would out of it. Convenient, friendly, thorough, professional. I plan to stay with these practitioners for myself and baby and any for any future possible pregnancies, and highly recommend them to anyone! read more

Top of my list when I moved to Seattle in 1999 was to find a great Naturopath. I did quite a bit of research, made quite a few visits w/ various ones and then a coworker told me to check out Seattle Naturopathy, Acupuncture & Birth Center. My initial visit was amazing, from initial greeting of staff through meeting w/ Dr. Rick Posmantur. He has been my doctor now for 13 years and can't even tell you how blessed I am, as he is on top of it from preventive health counseling to actual treatments for illnesses. He listens to every concern and knows exactly what to do. And it's incredible to me, to have a doctor who can also do chiropractic and acupuncture as well . . . three services that I can get addressed via one doc. And to have this all covered by insurance is BONUS!! read more

"Dr Rick" and Felice have taken care of my family for over a decade and I wouldn't choose anyone else. They provide excellent comprehensive primary care for my children and myself and they always fully explain everything and provide lots of options to consider. They understand so many facets of how the body responds to life and even when there are new approaches to treatment they seem to be completely on top of it and include those in their recommendations. You can tell that they have a broad set of knowledge, just look at the titles on the bookcase behind Dr. Rick's desk. There's heady texts from Western Medicine to Eastern Medicine and everything in between. I have four children, two of which were birthed by SNABC. They have had various medical issues over the last 15 years: Broken bones, allergies, sleep problems, learning problems, viruses, skin problems, etc. SNABC handles all of them without missing a beat, sending me off to specialists at Swedish Hospital as needed. If there is a naturopatic option for therapy or treatment, they will have it on site ready to go. (Their echinacia/hydrastis/berberis is the most effective I have tried). At SNABC you don't wait in a big waiting room with a bunch of other people. You usually sit for very small time, and head back into the examination rooms. Although they do have a nice waiting room for kids. I love this office!!! read more

I love Dr. Felice Barnow. She is compassionate and warm every time I'm in. I started seeing her for wellness checkups then through my first pregnancy. She wasn't able to attend my birth but Dr. Samantha Evans (no longer there) was an excellent back up. I was a little underwhelmed by the birthing center at first but I had a quick and uneventful birth so it did the job. The tub was great and it almost felt like I was at home. Felice gets 5 stars but their billing seems unorganized so I had to take a star off. Also they outsource ultrasounds. This is fine however I did not like my experience with Seattle Ultrasound. read more

I like this approach because I never feel pressured to take a specific route. I can try to remedy something the free/cheapest way first and then resort to other options.
