Terrible experience! 1st Dr didnt think i had an issue even before x-ray eventhough I had already seen my dentist. My tooth was rotten with decay & had to be extracted. Eventhough I told the Dr I needed extra novacaine, he didn't listen. He was so rough with the 2nd injection he caused me to scream with pain. I've been to plenty of specialist, so I know how rough he was. I had to argue with person responsible for insurance claim because he insisted insurance wouldn't cover any of procedure. They also wouldn't bill both my insurances. Turns out DeltaDental paid some of it so I had been billed almost $300 more. I had to call & get reimbursed. They only sent me part of amount so I had to call again! Then I had to submit another claim to Humana Dental when I found out they covered the extraction. The check for $436.77 incorrectly sent to Seattle Oral & not Mr since I paid for procedure out of pocket. Seattle Oral cashed check, never notifying me. Now I'm trying to get in touch with whoever handles this, after sending email, voice-mail, speaking with reception. I was told I'd hear back this morning & haven't yet. They've now kept my money 3x! I went in for a wisdom tooth removal, which I was quoted for $1600 after checking with the insurance and deducting insurance covered costs. However, after the procedure, I was shocked to receive a bill that was $400 AFTER 2 YEARS and this was more than what I was originally told. There was no prior warning or explanation for this outrageous additional charge. Not only was this a blatant case of overcharging, but the lack of communication from the dentist and the staff was unacceptable. I made an appointment for a simple extraction of a lower molar which had a failed root canal. My complaint is that Dr Amini called it a surgical extraction, which normally requires incisions, flaps and removal of bone or sectioning the tooth. This tooth was totally intact and no flaps or resection were done, and so no suture was needed, but to possibly justify the extra fee, a "window dressing" suture was used to make it look like a surgical procedure. The actual procedure was handled carefully and competently, though. So my complaint is only with the extra $500 inflated fee. read more

I didn't follow my general dentist's referral and instead did my own research to choose this clinic. It's in-network with my insurance, conveniently located in my neighborhood, and had a generally good overall google rating. However, I learned a crucial lesson: always sort Google Reviews by NEWEST! The latest reviews, much like my own experience, highlight issues with billing and appointment management. If you're an in-network patient, reading this review might help you identify and potentially recover some of the hidden charges. Briefly, Upon completion of the dental procedure, I was presented with a bill that reflected the full, non-adjusted price $2472 (this one is for the 2nd stage, the total implant cost is around $5K). Despite being assured by the staff that they accepted my insurance and would adjust the charges accordingly, I was asked to pay the entire procedure cost upfront. I followed their requirement to pay the full, non-adjusted price, and waiting for the check sent back to me for the adjustment, which is $593 clearly reported on my insurance claim(see Picture 1). Then in a couple of months, instead of check $593, I got a bunch of bill mails with $44 outstanding without any details. I called and found that the receptionist is replaced. After unsuccessful communications with the new receptionist, I decide to visit their clinic for the detailed billing breakdown and found their system still use the non-adjusted price $2472! After I emailed them evidence of the billing error, the adjustment of $593 was confirmed by the new receptionist and the billing manager (see email in Picture 2). But here comes the most ridiculous part: despite this confirmation, the staff claimed I still owed a $5 bill. How does an ignored adjustment of $593 the clinic owe me suddenly turn into $5 bill? I requested an explanation regarding this discrepancy, expecting a reimbursement of over $500. However, all my subsequent emails have been completely ignored, receiving no response whatsoever. In addition, their appointment management is disorganized. On two occasions, appointments were canceled without any prior notification. As shown in Picture 3, these appointments were scheduled by the receptionist. Imagine my surprise when, on March 16th, a Thursday, I took time off work only to find the entire clinic closed. When I inquired the following Monday, the receptionist casually mentioned, 'Oh, that may be a typo on the card, we are not open each Thursday.' And that wasn't the end of it! On July 21, for the follow-up appointment of the implant(Picture 3), the clinic was closed again without any notice. This not only wasted my time but happened twice. At this point, I was more disappointed than angry; it simply felt like a waste of effort. The clinic has a policy stating that no-shows or appointments canceled within 48 hours may incur a $200 cancellation fee. However, I'm left wondering -- when the clinic closes without any notice, leading to a complete waste of my time, how is my inconvenience being compensated for? It's disappointing how a simple billing adjustment has turned into such a headache. The inconsistent scheduling and unexpected closures also reflect poorly on the clinic's professionalism and reliability. $500 might not seem like a huge amount, but it matters. However, if Seattle Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery finds it difficult to manage, I'd rather consider it a contribution. Dr. Wang, as the clinic owner, if there are struggles behind the scenes, reaching out to the community could help. I would definitely recommend Dr. Amini for anyone needing wisdom teeth removal, especially if they are scared of the dentist. I had been avoiding scheduling an appointment for over a year, but when I finally did, Dr. Amini reassured me about the procedure. I wish I'd had a good experience with Dr. Wasson like others here have. Unfortunately, something went wrong during my jaw surgery (lower), and my lingual nerve was severely damaged. I woke up with no feeling in my tongue, and numbness in my lower lip, gums and chin. Fortunately, the right side of my face and tongue slowly improved over time, but it's been a year-and-a-half and I still have almost no feeling in the left half of my tongue. I saw a nerve specialist in the fall who recommended surgery to examine the nerve and possibly repair it. He found a large neuroma (scar) on my lingual nerve that indicated severe damage, so he did a nerve graft in Dec. It's been three months and I still have no feeling in the left half of my tongue. I paid an additional $3,000 out of pocket to correct Dr. Wasson's mistake, and so far I'm not hopeful I will ever get sensation back. My nerve specialist and dentists have all said that this is an extremely rare outcome of jaw surgery. It's also worth noting that my jaw surgery took hours longer than expected and Dr. Wasson told my fiancée it was because he didn't have a tool that he usually used in the surgery room. I don't know if that played a part in this damage or not, but it seems like the right thing to do would have been to reschedule my surgery, not leave me under anesthesia for hours longer than I should have been (which I also paid for out of pocket). I was very diligent in my research of oral surgeons before deciding on Dr. Wasson and I'm so disappointed that I will likely live with this issue for the rest of my life. (I gave Dr. Wasson two stars instead of one because he did do a nice job on the aesthetics of my face. I am, for the most part, happy with how my face looks.) read more

Just an amazing place! I had a bad fall (stoopid dog) knocked my teeth sideways, and my lip was split so badly, that I couldn't stop the bleeding. My husband took me in, and they didn't hesitate to take care of me with empathy and kindness. Not only did the lovely woman surgeon stabilize my teeth, but she was gracious and empathetic, and as gentle as possible. She made sure I had asked every question. I've been putting off having my wisdom teeth for awhile out of fear, I have a terrible phobia of dentists. I'm hard to numb and that makes me anxious, and the anxiety makes me harder to numb, and the circle continues! I finally had to get the suckers out though and Dr. Wasson was a preferred provider on my insurance with excellent yelp reviews. For starters the office is clean and modern and they have nice scented candles burning so it doesn't smell like a dentist's office. I'm scared of everything dental-related and probably just all around a nightmare patient. Dr. Wasson was very patient and answered all my 8,000 questions very honestly without being overly blunt and scaring me further. Day of they took me back right on time and set me up with a blanket and explained everything they were doing. Dr. Wasson is a total pro with an IV even though I have awful veins. I really appreciate how quickly everything went. I didn't sit around waiting (and dreading). The total time between being called back and being sedated was definitely less than 10 minutes. No time to psych yourself out. The actual procedure was literally nothing. They injected the sedation meds and the next thing I knew I was getting in the car with a care bag. If you're anxious or just plain don't enjoy dental work (who does), I highly recommend sedation. I only felt groggy for about 2-3 hours afterwards. The recovery has been pretty easy too. I felt well enough to run light errands and see a movie day 2. I only needed ibuprofen the first 48 hours and never touched the prescription painkillers. While I can't say I want to do this again, Dr. Wasson is great if you need to have any teeth pulled! read more

All I can say is GET IT IN WRITING when dealing with Lisa in billing. I should've known better. My being on disability and having to submit to my secondary insurance because they're not contracted with Medicare was made well aware. My requested statement billing not provided to me until my postop visit when I had to ask for it again. Of Course everything has to go by snail mail and it takes 90 days to process- Lisa also aware - Today I get a bill in the mail with a hand written note from her threatening to turn me into collections. When I called her she insinuated that I was trying to pass off my responsibilities as if she unaware this in process- I found her to be very condescending almost Rude , interrupting me- She's a great sales person that's for sure- As soon as you sign on the line her fangs come out- watch your back and your bills! read more

After 3 months, they sent me a new bill to pay. They said that it was a miscalculation and you have to pay us some more money. I would recommend this oral surgeon to everyone. 1. Easy scheduling: I am glad that Elliot bay dental referred me to here. From my initial exam to the surgery day, I only need to wait for a week. It works well with my schedule. 2. Billing: They wrote off some fees for my wisdom teeth extraction, and my insurance covered 90% of the procedure. Less copay! Wohoo! Also, they gave you parking reimbursement by cash. 3. Professionalism: I know It's hard to remove the impacted wisdom teeth. Luckily, I don't feel any pain during the procedure because I fell asleep instantly after they injected the anesthesia in my arms. 4. I had my first of two oral surgery procedures with Dr. Wasson yesterday. He has a great chairside manner and tried his best to make me feel comfortable and at ease as did the two assistants. They offered me a blanket, water, even a hand to hold. I never thought having oral surgery would be that simple, especially under general anesthesia. My recovery process after surgery was great. I called Seattle OMS on a Monday to get my wisdom teeth pulled, and I got in for a consultation on Friday and had the surgery on Saturday. Every staff member I interacted with was fantastic, including the front desk staff who were incredibly welcoming and answered all of my payment and scheduling questions, and the dental assistants who were very friendly and efficient and put me at ease. Dr. Wasson is awesome. He went over all of my options with me and made me feel like I was in control of how I wanted the procedure to go, which put me at ease. I decided to stay awake with local anesthesia and nitrous oxide. I was a little nervous going into the procedure, so Dr. Wasson let me listen to my ipod while he and the dental assistant were working on me. But honestly, I didn't even need it. He let me know what he was going to do each step and told some corny jokes along the way, so that was helpful. After the procedure, which felt way faster than I thought it would, he went out to the waiting room to talk to my fiance to give him instructions on my after care. And the following day, which was a Sunday, Dr. Wasson called to check up on me. In general the whole experience was way easier and more pleasant than I ever thought dental work/oral surgery could be. I was referred here by Elliot Bay Dental Clinic (excellent place) for removal of four wisdom teeth. One had deteriorated, another was side impacted and both teeth above had to be removed also. I got a consultation the same day and an appointment promptly for surgery. The secretary was very helpful and knowledgeable. She was friendly and engaging and set the tone for my visits there. Dr Michael Wasson was excellent. He has a calm and professional bed (chair side?) manner. He explained the state of my teeth and options very thoroughly, making it clear decisions were mine. On the day of teeth extraction him and his staff were good at spotting my initial nervousness and did a great job. Post-op he personally called me within 48hrs to check on my progress and clarify questions that I had. The physical space is clean and appealing. I only have two issues with this practise that prevent a 5star. 1. The intake sheet took me 15mins to complete (admittedly on my Iphone not computer) and some questions felt redundant. 2. The office is on Roosevelt Way (kitty corner to Portage Bay). I was lucky because I am familiar with the area to get parking, but there is no dedicated parking around the building. You have to hunt the side streets for free or Main Street for paid parking. These are small quibbles. The service was impeccable and I would encourage anyone to use them without hesitation. If I could award a 4.5 star rating I would. One last thing: my wife was very impressed that after my extraction (under general not local) Dr Wasson went to waiting area and spoke with her about my condition and gave her information about my prescriptions. I had an extremely smooth procedure and a speedy recovery. It was much better experience getting my wisdom teeth removed than I had anticipated. I was back at work on Monday! Michael Wasson called me the day after my surgery to check in. I called a few times with follow up questions the following week after my procedure and the staff were very helpful. They even fit me in for a follow up check in. Didn't actually get any surgery here but went here after having wisdom teeth surgery from a place near my hometown in NJ. I had what seemed like an infection after having my wisdom teeth removed a couple weeks prior. The doctor took an x-ray and looked in my mouth and told me to wait a week and see if it got better and told me it did not look like I had an infection. It didn't get better so I called and explained my symptoms again and they told me to come back in. I tell the doctor my symptoms again, he looks in my mouth, and then tells me to stop coming in and that nothing is wrong with my mouth. Even though I told him I had called and spoke to someone who told me to come I was talked down to for coming in. I then went to urgent care and was diagnosed with a sinus and ear infection. My symptoms did not go away though so I asked my primary dentist, who looked at my x-ray from months ago and listened to my symptoms and took a whole 5 minutes to actually diagnose me. Turns out I have a sinus perforation and the test that my dentist told me to perform to see if this is what I have is the exact same thing I told the surgeon here was irritating me. Tl:dr the doctors here will ignore your symptoms and yell at you for coming in. I wish zero stars was an option on this website :( read more

They made sure I was comfortable pre-removal and sent me home with a nice little care package afterwards containing chap stick, apple sauce, and other items. I never thought I would actually enjoy getting teeth removed this much. I had a hands down amazing experience with Dr. Wasson and everyone in this office. I've needed my wisdom teeth out for about 5 years and just kept putting it off because of who I am as a person. Also it's not the most exciting thing to spend your money on! One of wisdom my teeth cracked so I was referred here by a friend who is a dental hygienist in another office. My consultation was great. The staff has been so friendly, prompt and helpful from day 1. A very friendly member of the staff broke down a cost comparison of my insurance with and without anesthesia and explained all my options and when we could schedule the procedure. Once again, I put things off a little too long and the tooth cracked yet again almost two months later. I was in excruciating pain and immediately called to schedule the surgery but was concerned about finances. Dr. Wasson's staff was so understanding of my circumstances and worked with me to figure out a plan to help get me in as soon as possible and not have to wait in pain. I've never had a medical office do something like this for me. I went under full anesthesia which I know gives a lot of people anxiety. I'm fine with surgery, but Dr. Wasson sat down with me to answer or concerns I may have had before. The surgery itself was so quick, easy and painless. I was in and out in less than an hour! Everyone's body and pain tolerance is a little different, but I had no pain somehow during or after. I was given extra strength Ibuprofen and more intense meds just in case but never even had to use them. I could have gone without the Ibuprofen even but took it for the minimal swelling. I had hardly any swelling after the procedure and expected it to be worse on day 3 or 4 from stories I've heard. Nothing....in fact it got better and I was up on my feet immediately. I could have even gone back to work the next day, but enjoyed my day off and ate all the ice cream. I had to host a coworker's going away party the next day and everyone joked that the swelling was so minimal, it was as if I didn't even have the procedure done. I was sent home with a sweet little bag that they were nice enough to include some free applesauce cups. It's the little touches like that that make an amazing experience that much more memorable. Dr. Wasson himself called me the next day to check on me and make sure I was okay. All in all, I have zero complaints about the procedure and have nothing but amazing things to say about this whole experience that easily could have been a nightmare. Hopefully I don't have to have any other dental surgeries, but if I do, I won't be going anywhere else. I (obviously) highly recommend this office to anyone that needs anything done. Reading through the other reviews on Yelp, it seems like everyone else had just as amazing of an experience, so I'm confident this office is just great consistently. PS - little tip...we struggled to find parking the morning of the surgery but when I walked in the office, the staff suggested a patient garage. Dr. Wasson and his staff are amazing! I went in for a wisdom tooth consultation in late 2017. Scheduling was quick and easy. I was given a panoramic x-ray of my jaw and Dr. Wasson went over the procedure needed for removal. He was very professional and friendly. At the end of the consultation, I was given a breakdown of the procedure costs, including price with/without anesthesia. There was no pressure from anyone and I had plenty of time to think over my choice. Fast-foward to March 2018 when I was finally able to find time to do the procedure. At check in, the receptionist confirmed my procedure and was charged exactly what I was quoted months ago. The clinic also provided cash reimbursement for parking in one of the garages nearby. The appointment before me ran a little bit late but the staff constantly checked in on me while waiting for Dr. Wasson. When it came time, everything went quick and I don't even remember the last thing the nurse asked me before the anesthesia kicked in. I was in office for approximately 1.5 hours. I left with prescriptions for pain medication, lip balm, and extra gauze. Since I was pretty much blacked out after the procedure, Dr. Wasson made sure to call me the next day to check up on me and ask if I had any questions. It has been 4 days post-procedure and everything has been great! I have had little to no pain from the surgery and I didn't even have to take the pain killers I was prescribed. I found Dr. Wasson's practice after a month-long TMJ flair. I was cranky, in pain, and at my wit's end with the insurance runaround. I am so grateful I ended up in his office- I truly could not be more pleased with his care and staff. 10 minutes into my appointment Dr. Wasson diagnosed the cause of my jaw pain. He explained the injury, and even showed me on a model exactly what was going on. Once he covered the injury, he talked about treatment options. Dr. Wasson made it clear the choice was mine, while providing a strong recommendation. We decided to go surgical, and scheduled the procedure for the following week. Every member of the staff went out of their way to make surgery easier. The techs (especially Ariel) kept up a steady stream of conversation, putting me at ease. When I let them know I was a little needle phobic, Ariel held my hand, made me keep eye contact, and launched into a hilarious discussion topic. By the time Dr. Wasson chimed in with a joke, the IV was in and over with. While I came out of anesthesia, Dr. Wasson went over the surgery and post-op care with my husband. And even though the following day was Sunday, he personally called to check in. Dr. Wasson even remembered my plan to watch all of the original Star Wars trilogy, and asked how far I'd gotten. I'm now 3 weeks post-op, and had my final follow up. At the follow up, each staff member remembered me and the pre-op conversations. Heather and Ariel are two of the nicest, great techs I've ever met. Lisa, the admin assistant, handled all of the insurance mess and even submitted additional paperwork at my request despite the long odds of it paying off. Dr. Wasson did and incredible job diagnosing and treating my injury, but I'm equally impressed by how kind and helpful the entire team is. Seattle OMS exceeded my expectations. First of all, I have a pretty severe fear of dental work, and I haven't had the spare cash for dental care in about 12 years. As such, I waited to get my wisdom teeth removed until all of them had cavities and one was extremely broken and causing pain and swelling in my mouth. I also waited until I was less than a week from switching jobs and losing my dental insurance for a few months. On very little notice they were able to fit me in for a consultation and wisdom tooth extraction. They explained everything to me extremely well beforehand, and their website was also pretty informative. I found everyone here to be surprisingly personable and approachable- which I haven't experienced in other medical or dental settings. It helped a lot to ease my anxiety. We decided on an anesthetic for the procedure, and I literally remember nothing between telling them I was still a little bit awake and waking up with my mouth completely cleaned up, my IV out and bandaged, and my head wrapped with ice packs. I'm only two days out on my extractions, but so far I have had almost no pain and very little swelling. I could not be happier. Dr. Wasson even called this morning to check in. In the last few days, I've had a handful of friends in their mid twenties and thirties contact me because they're also scared to get their wisdom teeth removed, but are dealing with cracked or broken teeth or cavities- and I can not recommend this place emphatically enough. The whole procedure also cost about 1/10 of what I was expecting to pay once my insurance was factored in. So, yeah, I'd call that a five-star experience. read more
