I swung by Urban Calm spa to get a deep tissue massage. I had a prior appointment but had to wait around 10 minutes at the spa to get a masseuse allocated. They offer $10 discounts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so I was more than happy to get a discount despite the wait :p The masseuse Jenny/Jinny did an amazing job. I had selected 'hard' pressure and she lived up to the expectations. She kept checking in on me from time to time to ensure I was able to tolerate the pressure too. Only thing I would say is make sure you call ahead to confirm your appointment. Seen in earlier review woman booked a couples massage and when she got there they had no such appointment. Samething happened to me luckily they were able to find my info but told me I was booked for an hour earlier and now they could only accommodate an hour massage. However when I arrived they said they don't have any couple massage rooms available. This was disappointing as we were hoping to get a couples massage on New Years Day. Moreover the language barrier is such an annoyance. Finally I had to speak over the manager over the phone for the whole confusion. Kind of upset. My partner scheduled me a surprise massage that was not cheap. When I arrived they kept asking me questions and my response was, I have an appointment so let's stick with what they are paying for. I even showed them the booking details. My massage was not bad, but not exactly good. I felt bad for the person that paid for it. As I explained my massage to my partner, they got upset because I got a different massage than what they paid for. I'll probably have to go back and let them know they messed up. My experience here didn't meet expectations. I booked a deep tissue massage, but the pressure felt very light, and despite asking multiple times during the session to increase it, nothing changed. I also specifically indicated the areas I wanted the therapist to focus on before the massage, but throughout the session, I had to repeatedly redirect and correct, which made it difficult to relax To make things worse, I felt more discomfort after the massage than before. And when it was over, I was aggressively pushed to tip, which was uncomfortable--especially considering the quality of service. Really disappointed in this place. My partner booked a 60 minutes couples massage for V-day and when we arrived, after waiting 20 mins in the lobby area, they told us that they were too busy and can only do separate solo massages. We told them that we had made a reservation for a couples massage so we wanted that honored. There was a bit of a language barrier which made it difficult to understand the situation but a couple minutes later, one of the people handed us a phone with the manager and they first offered solo massages for the price of one solo massage but then said we could do the couples for 45 minutes at no cost. At that point, we figured we were already there so we'd be okay with the 45 minute option. There was definitely a miscommunication because we were then led to separate rooms and at first I thought that they would open the divider between the walls for the couples massage. I was wrong, after laying down for a few minutes, they never opened the divider and realized that we were just getting solos. I tried to enjoy the massage but the first weird thing was that my masseuse was male and my boyfriend had the female masseuses (which I'm not sure why they did it that way but okay). The massage started fine and then became very painful. I was hoping they would sprinkle in some more relaxing moves but the masseuse was digging so hard into my body with barely any relief. I didn't even sign up for a deep tissue but basically got one against my will. To top it off, at the end of the massage, the guy put the hot towel down on me and scrubbed my skin so hard it was a just fitting end to a terrible experience. On top of not honoring our couples massage reservation, I left feeling bruised and unsettled when all we wanted was a relaxing massage.The reviews seemed positive but after digging, another couple had the exact same experience as us and can't help but feel like this is a terrible pattern. Although they comped the massage, I left feeling worse than when I arrived and wish we just would've left. Very unprofessional changing up the reservation once we were there and then not giving a good service is crazy. Really tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but as we were leaving, there were two more couples waiting and made me wonder why we got the short end of the stick here. I booked a 60 minute combination massage- 30 minute full body and 30 minutes feet but she spent 55 minutes on my body and only 5 minutes on my feet. I don't live close so I probably won't be back but if you book a similar massage, maybe ask them to do your feet first. Probably the only massage I have ever enjoyed in my life! I came by per my appointment that I scheduled online, and I was ushered to a dimly lit room. I hadn't been to a massage in a long time, so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. Lily was extremely helpful and answered all my questions, and I felt extremely comfortable by the time it started! I really recommend choosing Lily as your masseuse! I rarely enjoy massages because, unlike most folks I know, I need it VERY gentle. Usually, no matter how many times I ask, they rarely go gently enough, and I end up being in a lot of pain after. Lily was attentive and adjusted perfectly whenever asked. She made sure that it was the right level before continuing on each time. By the end of it, I was actually so relaxed, and I had the best sleep in a long time later that night. One he straddled me while I was laying face down and second he got on the table I between my legs while I was face up. I found this place on a googling spree for a good reviewed massage place with decent pricing. We sort of took a gamble on this place with only 14 reviews..but I'm so happy we did! We arrived for our 10am, 2 hour couples massage and waiting in the quaint waiting room for roughly 3 minutes while our room was prepared for us. I immediately noticed how clean everything was and how quiet it was.. loved that. Once we were in our room we were offered 3 different styles.. deep tissue, Swedish or hot stone. DO THE HOT STONE! :) The masseuses were very quiet and only spoke to us to make sure we were okay and the pressure wasn't too much. The pressure was even and if you needed a lighter pressure in certain areas they happily obliged us. Not good. It's dirty feels cheap. The carpet was full of stains, the facility itself is very worn out. It felt kinda like a sweat shop. My husband commented he had never seen so many therapists in one place. Um the massage was not good. It felt like the person was not actually trained. I wouldn't be surprised if you looked them up and zero therapists are accredited by the state. Worst and weirdest Massage I've received in a decade of getting them. The pressure was good but that was it. Felt chaotic and just bizarre. No real technique or skill other than elbows and thumbs. Idk maybe it's because I'm used to getting massages from licensed therapists often in chiropractor, sports medicine and nice hotels. This was just bad. Also I have never ever been massaged on top of a sheet (which was very rough), he walked away at one point without saying anything- which was just werid. Then had hot towels put down for a minute and then rough dry towels scrap my skin. I almost left 30 minutes in.. it was just so bad. I tipped because I felt guilt again I got slum lord vibes.
