I have been going here to see Dr Bruce for 25 years for my annual exam and cannot recommend him highly enough. If you are looking for a kind, competent, highly skilled and thoroughly knowledgeable optometrist, this is the place for you. AVOID. tl;dr utterly inept customer service and broken delivery promises. Multiple missed completion dates for a progressive lens fitting to sports frames, after an initial commitment to a two-week turnaround on 28th Feb. Called them for a status four days before deadline, (I chased, they didn't contact me) to be told that they had had to re-spec the lens material for technical reasons, but the glasses would still arrive on time. A day short of the two week deadline, SVCC told me the frames/lenses were ready to ship , only to later discover that the lab *hadn't even done the work* because of the "technical problem". Again, no inbound comms from them, I had to chase. That was followed by a failure to provide any timely updates at all, even as phantom ship dates came and went. SVCC then said the frames and lenses would be shipped with two day delivery on 18th March, yet on 21st March went into full reverse and said that their lab of choice was unable to do the work at all. Their default throughout was to blame the lab (Jorgensons) and say their rep at the lab was giving them "the runaround", even though the main issue was a failure by Seattle Vision Care Center to update status. Ended up having to instruct them to retrieve my frames after three weeks with no progress on delivery date, so I could make other arrangements. In fact, still awaiting a confirmed date when the frames will actually return to my possession - at the moment, SVCC say they don't even know the physical location of the frames, because the original lab, Jorgensons, sent them to another lab the name and location of which SVCC claim not to know. Special mention for Gavin, who has no understanding at all of basic customer service principles and refused to accept responsibility for the multiple errors. Save yourself the customer service headaches. Go to a different optician. read more

Care of your precious eyeballz seems fairly standard if all you need is a check up, but if you need more (aka your new contacts are like sand, you thought a brillo pad was your contract lens, or you suffer from dry eyes in Seattle's perpetual Autumn allergy season), it's time to separate the wheat from the chaff. First off: the location. It's in downtown Seattle, so if you work or live down there you can stop in on your lunch break or before you head into work. They start seeing people at 9:15, so that's good for getting into work at a decent hour. I've been coming to Dr Habib for the past 5 years and it's been fantastic... and by "fantastic" I mean state of the art with personalized service. To unpack this: For about 25 dollars more, they'll take a picture of your retina rather than blow up your pupil with drops, which can be a real pain the arse if you have to 1. go to work and make money or 2. be in a room with a light or 3. see. Since I'm not a vampire, monk, blind cave cricket, or trophy wife, this is quite useful. The above mentioned scenarios (the dry eyes, the irritating contact lenses, the corneal horribleness) are true stories. Dr. Habib has been great in fitting me into last minute or emergency appointments and developing an eye plan that suits my lifestyle and needs -- including discussing alternatives to lasik, non-addicting (yes) eye drop recommendations (which have turned out to be a real life saver), and allowing me to try various brands of daily contact lenses (his staff also tells you about any contact lens discounts for which you may be eligible). All in all, A+ doctors, service, and location. read more

TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE customer service. Last night I came in for my appointment at 4:15 PM. I got an eye exam, which went fine - I think the doctor was very professional and did a good job. I then went to look at some frames, and found a couple that I liked and was trying to decide between. It was suggested that I get both, and I since I liked them both I agreed, although they were more expensive than I really wanted to spend. When I got home later, I realized they were too much and not within my budget. While of course this isn't their problem, I called this morning promptly at 9 AM (I looked at their website to see when your business opens so I would make sure to call on time) to cancel the order for one of the pairs of glasses and to keep the other, still spending around $400+ with them. Even though the optometrist said it would take 10 DAYS to complete the order, apparently by 9am it was already too late. The woman I spoke to on the phone was not only not helpful and completely unaccommodating, she was rude and insisted that she took me up to the register to read a sign about the sales being final when in fact she did NOT; I sat at the table while she took my card to ring me up. Regardless of the policy, the fact that this was not ever reiterated to me in person by the salesperson is in my opinion evasive and sneaky business practices. I know that Seattle Vision is not a large, national bureaucratic chain; they should have the flexibility to accommodate customers ESPECIALLY when they were as timely in their communication as I am. I too work to service customers in a retail environment, and if this were my customer, I would have accommodated their request (regardless of what the "lab" said) and taken the loss in order to keep a long-term, faithful customer and brand ambassador. Instead, they have guaranteed that not only will I never be back, but I will also never recommend them. CUSTOMERS: beware of their service. read more

After my horrendous glasses nightmare with Seattle Eye MDs a couple of months ago, I was pissed when one of my lenses started popping out of the frame - but determined not to darken their door again and ask them to fix it. I was worried that the popped-out lens was damaging the frame, so I stopped in at Seattle Vision because they're right around the corner from my office to see what they could do. Wow, these guys are great! Not only do they carry my favorite brand - Lafont - so they're familiar with the frames, but they were super-friendly and happily did the adjustments for me for free. The optician tut-tutted me for whipping off my glasses Clark Kent style (which is apparently what caused the problem to begin with), and showed me the right way to take off and lay down one's glasses. Then she got to work with the gadgets, did some tweaking, and even fixed the arms so they fit properly and don't fall off my nose constantly. Not only were they friendly, helpful, and fast, but my glasses are not only fixed but actually fit better than when I first got them! Amazing. I'm totally coming back here next time... and not just because they're like 50 feet from where I work. read more

Dr. Bruce is about everything you want in an optometrist. I'd give him 5 stars. The lady that tried to sell me glasses was really pushy and unpleasant. I'd give her 1 star. Thus the 3 star average rating. Dr. Bruce - He makes you feel calm, professional, tells a decent joke here and there, and even hums a little through the exam. My appointment went super fast and I saved time by filling out their online form before coming in. He told me that he's been in this line of work for 31 years and is also involved with a local educational institution having something to do with contacts. One of the gals in the office was very prepared to answer my insurance questions and had solid advice regarding whether to spend my insurance on contact or glasses. Sales Lady - I went back in to look at glasses. She immediately suggested frames from $250 - $450. I told her that I was only wearing them at home and since my insurance only paid up to $120 I didn't want to go higher than that. Then she revealed that they did indeed have som $125 frames. She was really in a hurry and I eventually sat down to get measured and planned on buying a $125 frame. I asked her if I could have the prescription afterwards and she said yes. Then I asked if I could have the measurements she took so I could buy a second pair of glasses online. She told me they charged a fee for that. That was the last straw and I gave her the glasses back, got my prescription, and walked out. I think it's unreasonable to charge me for a copy of my measurements when I got my exam there, bought my contacts there, and was about to buy a pair of glasses with lenses. read more

Just finished a 16 block round trip walk in the driving rain to/from this Joke Shop. I called to get an appointment for new glasses. After explaining that I currently have glasses which I am not sure are right for me, the attendant on the other side of the phone setup an appointment and welcomed me to come on time or late, which ever was best for me. Definitely a good start. Upon arrival it seemed the story had changed and now I was being asked to provide a prescription so new glasses could be made from the old prescription. When I re-explained my situation I was then told I should try to make an appointment for next week when I would be more likely to get what I wanted. After a quick look around the limited selection and a whiff of the inflated prices, I decided to leave. Based on what I saw I will not be back. One star for availability and follow through. Four stars for overall tidyness of the store and welcoming front desk staff. read more

I simply would only trust Bruce with my eyes! Here is why: I had Lasik done by an outfit in Bellevue a few years ago and my vision had since regressed. Over the past year, I have sought counsel from 4 optometrists and 3 lasik surgeons. Having spent so much time visiting and being examined by various vision professionals, I could really begin to tell tell the difference among them. Bruce, with his superior knowledge, professionalism, and most important of all, integrity, really set himself apart from the rest. As an owner of a professional office myself, it is evident to me that he takes pride in his work and really cares about his patients. The Doogie Doctor was ok - kinda wonder what online training course he went through to get his license to practice optometry. Basically, he wore a white coat and sat on the other side of machines all day while I played eye-match video games. On the retail side of things... my frames are simply brilliant but cost $500 out of pocket after insurance. That kind of sucked; especially when I did some research online what the frames SHOULD have cost me. The doctor refused to write me a prescription for 2 week lenses after I mentioned that I sometimes wear them longer than 2 weeks because I clean them. The doctor outright refused - and essentially required me to go to another doctor to get the prescription I wanted. A total waste of time. The doctor was going to charge me $80 a month for the crappiest one day contacts I've ever tried. The "nicer" ones were $160 a month. These guys are running a racket for "my safety." Well, I've been wearing 2 week lenses for 10 years and have only had a small number of incidents that usually stem from leaving them in overnight (which has nothing to do with the duration of the lenses). The refused to write the prescription, kept giving me daily lenses to try to keep me strung out, and I completely felt like they were pushing me into a product I didn't want. I'd avoid this place at all costs - it was really disappointing. I felt like their motivations were monetary, not that they cared about my eyes. I felt like they were looking for reasons to sell me a more expensive product, and keep me on their dole at $100+ a month. read more

I just returned from my second annual eye exam with Dr. David Kading, and I can say that it is actually a pleasure to go to Seattle Vision for an exam. He does a very thorough yet efficient job, and is extremely pleasant. This office also uses more advanced equipment to scan your retinas rather than putting you through the dilation process. They charge a $15 fee for this that most insurance doesn't cover, but it is definitely worth it to avoid the annoyance of having your pupils dilated (and apparently the imaging they get from it is better). Last year I purchased frames and lenses at Seattle Vision. They were amazingly helpful in determining what frames would be good for me, and what options to get on the lenses. They had no problem explaining everything about what my insurance would and would not cover, and how the total cost to me would work out. I was in a rush to get it done by the end of the year, but they worked with me on that too! I love my frames and lenses. I just had new nose pads installed when I was there, and now they feel even better. Very good service if you need adjustments! I should mention that when I purchased my frames I looked absolutely everywhere for frames I liked that were a decent value. Seattle Vision's prices are about the same as other VSP shops, but their service was far better than others. Glasses are simply expensive....they did show me a $450 frame first, but once we got into the right price range (expect ~$200 for frames) everything went smoothly - and I took forever deciding, so they were very gracious. Highly recommended! Easy to get exam appointments. Takes less than an hour to get an exam, adjustment, and get back to work if you work downtown. Why go anywhere else??? read more

I've been going here for about three years for my annual eye exams, and it's always been a pleasure (considering it's an eye exam - I mean, it's not like going to a rave or anything). The staff is kind and facilitates the appointments well. They're patient and friendly throughout the initial exam. My doctor has always been Aqil Habib and he's helpful and courteous. All in all, I'd highly recommend Seattle Vision for optometry. My insurance covered most of it - VSP/Cigna. YMMV. I've never bought frames here. It's true that they're on the expensive side, but that's true for most of the glasses shops I've been to. I have bought lenses here before and they had a week turnaround time. read more

It's been ten years (TEN YEARS) since my last eye appointment, so I was, to say the least, a wee bit overdue. Dr. Kading was fantastic - entertaining, easy to talk to, and empathetic. I walked out not only with an order for my glasses set (7-10 business days but potentially sooner, per the woman who helped me choose them, as the frames are in stock and the prescription is fairly simple), but a prescription for eye drops for the itchiness and dryness that come with allergies. The gal who helped me choose the frames found a great pair in a great color for me and I'm excited to have them now - though I'll admit that 90% of that excitement is likely due to the fact that I'm still taking tylenol right now. (It's only been two days!) Getting an appointment was quick and painless - I called Friday of last week and got in on Tuesday. And despite having a smaller store and therefore, a slightly smaller selection than places like Lens Crafters, what they had to offer was MUCH NICER. They take most of the big name insurance companies as well. EDIT, 12/15/07 - I was told it would take 7-10 business days to get my glasses in, but that they might finish 'em sooner. Sure enough, yesterday I received a call to let me know they were done! (3 days, folks!) I picked them up that afternoon and they took a good ten minutes of fitting them to ensure that they molded to my face perfectly. They also gave me a cleaning cloth and a spray bottle of cleaner for the lenses, which, I'd like to add, is something I'd have had to buy if I had gone to Lens Crafters. My only qualm is that the glasses case fit the glasses well pre-fitting, but was useless post-fitting. I had to go track down a case in another part of town for it. read more

Being new to town, I had no idea where to go to get my glasses fixed. After looking for some places close to where I was staying, I visited five on a Monday afternoon only to find all of them either closed or out of business. Low and behold on Wednesday morning when I walk in to Seattle Vision on Union Street to not only find them open, but with a full staff of helpers ready to help with a smile. However, I realized that i had accidentally left my wallet at home....creeps. They still fixed my glasses on the spot, gave me a custom fitting, and let me call in my credit card when I got home. All the while, everyone nicer than the last. I have found my Seattle home for eyecare, and thrilled to make this connection. What a fantastic business, team and beautiful selection of frames! Got an eye exam scheduled within a few hours of calling- and the paperwork and exam itself was super fast, and seemed thorough. They give you a little paper notice about some special gadget they use on your eyes so they don't have to dilate you, and that it will cost an extra 20$ to cover the costs. I declined this, and they still didn't dilate my eyes- and i think they even still used the fancy machine. I really went in for new glasses, and the lady that helped me was very patient and friendly, and knew all of their products very well- even ones that weren't in the store, and what colors everything came in. The selection was decent, but didn't have anything wild/loud enough for me. Sort of a stiff atmosphere, and everyone seems very quiet and serious. Didn't find what i needed, but i thought it was an okay place. PS parking downtown is a freaking nightmare! I had to park 6 blocks away and pay 5$ for an hour and 10 minutes. total shit. read more

Like Summer I too feel my review of this business now is entirely different than I had when I first started going to them years ago. I used to find their service awesome... until... Now every single time I go in there I wait for a long period of time just to ask a question even though women that work there are walking all about no one of course acknowledging me or seeing if they can assist. I brought in my glasses on a visit recently and asked them to just tighten the frame and the very quiet timid (all the females here seem to have that personality) said they would get right on it. However 30 minutes later no one had looked at them. Finally I just told them to keep them to work on and I walked out without my glasses. Not being able to see is not soo good. They ended up breaking them worse than they were and told me they were irreparable, but my friend ended up fixing them good as new. Well over a month ago I asked them to research the colors a frame came in and asked them to call me when they found out. Never got a phone call so I had to call and check on that myself. I then ordered a pair of glasses over a month ago and ensured not once but twice that I left my phone number with them. Sure enough I just called today to check the status for these frames I spent quite a bit of money on and was told they have been there for almost a month. The two phone numbers they had on file for me were from several years ago even though I gave them my good phone number twice. Beyond frustrated with the lack of professionalism and customer service at this place. Will NOT be back. read more

great great great!! dr. habib is super nice and yet honest with you which is how i always expect a good doctor to be. the ladies in the office (my spologies for not remembering names!!) are terrific and incredibly patient! i had a heck of a time looking for glasses and they were right there to go through what seemed like every pair in the office until i decided on THE perfect pair : ) the selection of frames is outstanding which is why i had such a hard time looking! typically i can get it down to 2 to choose from and in this case i had 5! He said I could go for the Paragon CRT contacts that cure my eyesight (temporarily) I wear these hard contacts while I sleep and during the day I can see WITHOUT GLASSES! Kinda like Cinderella's coach though...by the end of the night (about 11pm) my eyes start reverting to their old habits. LASIK without SURGERY !! YAY!! Go see Bruce! read more

My wife and I had a wonderful experience here! We had our eyes examined at our "old" eye place, but didn't want to get glasses there. I remembered we had gone to Seattle Vision years ago, but left because there's a place in my wife's office building. We went back to Seattle Vision, easily finding street parking on 2nd Ave a few blocks away. We were immediately greeted in a very friendly way. Then Eva asked how she could help us. We both wanted new glasses, and weren't really sure about the style of frames that we wanted. Eva brought out about a dozen frames for my wife and asked her questions to narrow down the selection, also telling her what looked good. When my wife said she wanted something that cost a bit less, Eva pulled out some less expensive frames. Then when they were down to two, my wife noticed one was quite a bit less than the other and Eva said they both look great and kind of urged my wife to get the lower priced ones. Eva didn't have to pull out as many styles for me, but helped me find one I hadn't even noticed. She figured out how much our insurance would pay and was patient and kind. When my wife called for a detailed receipt for our Flexible Spending Account, we received it in the mail the next day. The glasses came in before promised and Eva called us to let us know. When we returned, we parked on 2nd Ave again. Eva took her time fitting the glasses for us and told us to come back any time for adjustments. She even fixed a pair of sunglasses for me, that weren't purchases there. We found Eva to be interesting and engaging. The other staff we encountered were also very nice. No arrogance at all! I was a new customer at Seattle Vision Care Center. I changed eye doctors since my last place kept surprising me with charges for exams that had not been disclosed in advance even though I had asked. Seattle Vision was transparent with their fees. They clearly explained what I would pay out of pocket for the exam and what my insurance would cover. My eye doctor was very nice and spent a lot of time with me. I ordered contact lenses from them. They arrived in about 2-3 days! I ordered my glasses from them. I opted to get the ones with the transition lenses. I was told 10 days for my glasses to be ready. They were ready in about 4 days--excellent. Later I decided I did not like the transition lenses. I casually mentioned this to the team at Seattle Vision and they said they could replace them with non-transition lenses and there would be no charge! They also offered me a 2nd pair of frames at a really discounted price. I was so happy with them going above and beyond. They have earned a customer for life. read more

Most frames at this place are marked up so high that even after my insurance payment it costs more than full price at the optical shop two blocks away without insurance. I bought my glasses here before, and 3 major reasons for a low review: (1) Price: super expensive even after my insurance coverage. I remember I was charged over $300 for a pair of glasses. I went to another store under the same insurance and was charge less than 1/3. (2) Quality: frames got suddenly broken after 15 months and I cannot do anything without glasses. I went to another store and was told that their lenses were made a little too big for the frames so that they broke. I changed new frames with old lenses. I called them and they told me that I need to mail the lenses to them so that they can have a check. However I need those lenses in my new frames to work and live. Then they said that they cannot do anything. I had added 3 photos to show the broken frames so you can have a look. (3) Service: the front desk girl was very nice, but when I waited over 40 minutes after my reservation time to get my eyes checked, the doctor did not say sorry at all. I would highly recommend against this place if you want to go there to try your luck. read more

I got my last pair of glasses here and had a great experience. They take VSP and have a very good selection of frames. The brand I particularly liked, Bevel, is one that I could not find at any other store in Seattle that takes VSP. Seattle Vision has a very good selection of high quality fun frames. I was having trouble finding exactly what I was looking for in their frames. The sales people were very helpful without being annoying. There was a particular brand of frames I liked, but didn't see the shape/color that I wanted. They got out "the book" for that brand, and showed me several pairs that met my description. They actually knew all the frames very well, so they could tell me more about them, other than what I could just see from the pics. There was a pair I really liked that they ordered for me. When it came in (only a few days later), I tried it on and wasn't sure about it. So we went back to "the book" and I picked another pair. They ordered that one for me, and it turned out to be perfect! I really appreciated how patient they were with me so that I could get the frames I really wanted! read more

I have been going to Dr. Williams for a few years and regularly refer my coworkers to Seattle Vision, as it is the best experience I've had at the eye dr (been wearing contacts since I was 12). I've always like the customer service in the retail area, the receptionists are great and I like how speedy, yet thorough, Dr. Williams is. The thing that prompted me to write a 5-star review today was the customer service I just experienced. Three people in the office helped me work something out that saved me about $60. They didn't have to do it, didn't have to offer it and all three of them went above and beyond to help me. I will always go here for retail contacts, lenses and frames as well as my eye exams. The frames that I have purchased here have been pricey, but they carry the coolest styles, so no surprise there. It's super easy for me to walk over there from work, but I would deal with downtown parking and traffic to continue to go here anyway. read more

Great friendly and helpful staff! The eye exam was very thorough and accurate. They did several tests to check for basic eye health as well. I have worn glasses since 1988 and this was by far the best experience. The lenses are of superior quality, each pair I have had for over a year, and never saw a single scratch on them, even after one pair was dropped and skidded across a concrete floor! I never felt pressure to buy, they even fixed the pair I broke, for free. They only reason I rated them a 4 star instead of 5 was the cost of the frames. They look good, and have an average selection, but are just extremely expensive. I just purchase my frames elsewhere and bring them to SV for everything else, as that is where they excel above all other vision centers. read more

They have plenty of neat technology to take pictures of your eye and test for problems. They are not the cheapest, this isn't lenscrafters, but they are reasonable and who wants to only go by price when it comes to eye health?
