It was supposed to be my first visit. First, they said that even though my insurance covers it, they don't do lenses or frames and then I would have to go somewhere else for that. So it's literally only coming in for the eye exam. They set my appointment during the list of traffic time and I was 5 minutes late. They did not see me. They said they would reschedule. I walked out and said I'll find a different doctor. Terrible customer service. Now that I'm reading the negative reviews, I'm glad I didn't go to them. There are lots of frames to choose from, modern to traditional, and even fun frames! Everyone here was professional and friendly. I was impressed by the team at MEC. Every person working here was professional, helpful and thorough. It's rare that every single level of service from reception to doctor to technician to stylist would be on the same level but they are. From start to finish my appointment took about 45 minutes, which included me picking out some new frames (I make decisions quickly, which helped), an exam and payments. They have a decent selection of frames and the turnaround time for my frames is reasonable. I can't imagine going to another office for my eyecare-I'm home. read more

I've been twice. Doctors are amazing and if I decide to go back it will only be because of my experience with them and the sweet technicians. Kayla and the front desk experience has always been very off - impatient, bossy, even rude. When I showed up for my appointment 10 min early they made me wait outside on the sidewalk in the cold. I was pressured to give them my insurance info even though I told her my vision is not covered, and she said I'd be charged more for my appointment if I didn't give it to her. And the billing situation weeks later was over-complicated while still somehow being out of date. Finally, the hours are so odd - I tried calling at least 5 different days/times to discuss said billing issue and was never able to reach anyone. So, I finally went down there and they were locked up on a regular weekday. Like I said, not terrible, but just so off. My VSP offers a free set of frames and lenses as a benefit, and this business is included in their trusted network of providers. After calling to confirm that they carried the line of frames under coverage, I went in to pick out frames. They pulled a limited selection out of a drawer, and these were mostly sized for men. The woman assisting me told me to visit the vendor website and select a few frames that she would then order so that I could try them on and wouldn't have to order glasses sight unseen. I chose two frames and was told I would receive a call within a week when they arrived. A week went by without a call. I gave them another week before ringing up the store. The gentleman on the other end told me he had one frame for me but the other was on backorder. I asked if he could get a rough idea of the timeline from the vendor. A few weeks? A month? Longer? He said he had no idea, maybe never. I was welcome to come in and try on the frame he had. He then said that nobody wants to carry these cheap frames and I was going to have difficulty getting my free glasses anywhere. The implication seemed to be that they don't want to associate with Apple Health clients. The tone of the interaction was unexpected and unprofessional. It left me feeling gross. It has been over a month now since my initial visit without any attempt on their part to contact me. I guess I am too low class to get service. Perhaps the business should reconsider participating in my VSP's network if they do not want to lower themselves to carry the frames or interface with the clients. read more

Would like to see more of their eyeglasses set at more affordable prices. I wanted something for reading and had a tough time finding much of a selection under $200. Dr. Mayemura is the best eye doctor I've ever had. I've been seeing him now for almost 11 years. I have told him that he's never allowed to retire. I have very complex eyes (strabismus and amblyopia) and have had four eye surgeries and I've never found an optometrist that truly seems to get me and my eyes. I highly recommend him! read more

Earlier this week, I had an absolutely incredible experience at Magnolia Eye Care. To be completely honest, I had rather low expectations given my previous interactions with other eye care clinics. At one of those other eye clinics, the doctor said to me, "I usually do not treat older patients". I was 48 at the time. At the most recent eye clinic I used, the clinic office manager called me 30 minutes before my appointment to say, "the staff has decided to take a long lunch, so can you come another time?" No "we are sorry to inconvenience you", no apologies, it was all about them. From the first interaction I had with Magnolia Eye Care, I knew my experience would be different. The woman handling appointments asked me "what day and time works best for you?" Magnolia Eye Care is located in the heart of the Magnolia business district, so parking is plentiful. The office is peaceful and welcoming. I was treated kindly and professionally by everyone at Magnolia Eye Care. Everyone I interacted with talked with me; not to me. I was pleasantly surprised to learn I did not have a million forms to complete as that piece was efficiently handled by the woman who performed the first part of my exam. Dr. Dabundo did the second piece of my exam after which he had an incredibly informative conversation with me. He told me things about my eyes that no other physician or optician had bothered to tell me. Dir. Dabundo was both reassuring and patient when telling me the results of my exam and answering my questions. I cannot recommend Magnolia Eye Care highly enough. The entire team office provides world class professional care and everyone I engaged with was professional, kind and clearly happy to work there. Optometrists are very nice and thorough -- I was aging into a contacts prescription that was presenting the choice of being able to see distance *or* being able to read up close. The eye docs worked with me to get things "just right," and to find the contact lens that felt comfortable on my dry, itchy eyes. I tried many lenses! They were patient with me, explained the physiology and the optometry of my situation, and in the end, I am very happy with my choice. Highly recommend the eye doc care here. ALSO, a very nice upgrade, is the option to spend a little more to get a non eye-drop, non pupil dilation alternative for the eye exam. It's another $30 because it's not covered by insurance (of course not, stupid insurance), but it saves me half a day of work! Also: Eyeglass frames might be the bread and butter of this store. They've got plenty of options. You can probably find less expensive elsewhere, but the service is very good. Friendly, convenient, kind, thoughtful. Swing by anytime to get glasses adjusted, if you need to. Great for the kids, who can stop in after school and get nose pads or temple hinges tightened or straightened, as necessary. (Then go to the Magnolia Bookstore or Petit Pierre bakery next door to treat yourself with some brain and mouth candy :)). read more

I came here in August for a new eyeglass and contact lens prescription. I was nervous to get my eyes checked due to COVID, and it's been years since I've updated my prescription. This was a new eye doctor/clinic for me. I am SO glad I choose Magnolia Eye Care. Dr. Ken answered all of my questions, was very through, patient and (most importantly) helped me learn more about my eyes and eye care. I have very dry eyes due to allergies and looking at a computer all day and have had issues with contacts in the past. My previous eye doctor recommended I use eye drops but didn't explain why, how often, types of drops, etc. So learning from Dr. Ken was refreshing and greatly appreciated. The front desk staff were so polite, and the entire facility was clean and followed COVID protocols. Touchless hand sanitizers were throughout the office, and social distancing was respected with exception of the actual eye appointment/screening and eye glasses fitting (but that was expected and made sense). As I was trying on different glasses, they had a cleaning protocol to ensure each pair I tried on were sterilized prior to putting them back on the wall for future patients. The memorable service was from Michael, the eyewear consultant. He was phenomenal. He was very patient with me and helped me figure out the best fitting eyeglasses for my head and nose with no pressure to spend on a certain brand. When I came in to get them fitted, he made sure they fit correctly and took his time to adjust my glasses to be perfectly aligned for my face. I DON'T recommend this place unless you like hidden fees... Here's the story: two months ago, I went to this place for an annual eye exam that was covered by my insurance. During the examination, the doctor offered me to select between Optomap and Dilation; she explained that dilation is covered by insurance, but Optomap costs $40 out of pocket. However, with dilation, we must employ an eye drop to widen the pupil region, which blurs vision for 4 to 6 hours. Because I had to work with my eyes later, I elected to pay $40. Later, the doctor explained that there is a grey region at the corner of your eye that I couldn't see clearly through the Optomap photographs, so it's best to dilate, and do you want to schedule another appointment for that? I said fine, but I was curious because I had already paid $40 and now you say it didn't work? A month later, I returned to the appointment, where the doctor applied the eye drop and examined my eye, telling me it wasn't a huge deal so I went home. A month later, I received a statement for the second appointment, which included a $177 fee. I called the office and inquired as to why the dilation (which was supposed to be free) cost me $177. And now you are charging me for an eye exam that includes both Optomap and dilation? They said that the second visit was not covered by your insurance and that the doctor wanted to examine your eyes more closely. I was like, "Are you kidding me?" The doctor has asked me to choose how I want to have my eye exam done, and after I've chosen the paid option, you tell me "whoops, that didn't work well, come back later and we need try the other option, oh you thought it's the free option? Wrong, we gonna charge you $177 for it but you won't know it util you received the bill after a month." The thing that irritates me about this place is that the fees are not transparent, and they make things more confusing. Ironically, I also spent a few hundred dollars on a pair of new glasses and had intended to visit this place more in the future, but now I am very disappointed. Now I have to pay over $200 for an eye exam which supposed to be $0 out of the pocket. read more

I definitely love the customer service here and the docs seem to be interested in knowing their stuff. I am hoping I am not speaking too soon but I really do think they are good staff and kind!!!!! Which is something I appreciate a lot! The front desk women are busy and not catty! There is a guy to help with eyeglasses and contacts which is so helpful! The doctors are caring! What a great experience! I was visiting from out of state and was having an issue with my eyes and was referred to Magnolia Eye Care. The staff was very welcoming and informative. Dr. Mullins was very thorough with my eye examination, explained each step along the way and provided a full explanation of the status of my eyes. The staff took the extra time to ensure that I received all the discounts possible since I did not have insurance to cover the necessary services provided. I would highly recommend this business. The more I think about my experience, the angrier I become. I decided to come here because it's right near my work, I lost my glasses and I heard this was a good place to go. I had a terrible experience here. First off, I'll tell you that I have VERY sensitive eyes. I can't even put makeup on because of how sensitive they are. I told them this multiple times during my visit yet I was treated like I was blind. My experience with the assistant was awful. She took me in to get my exam and ended up using new technology which was a laser light rather than dilation. This was my choice, but she literally had to take at least 20 pictures because my eyes are so sensitive... which like I said I told them. She was very rude about the fact that I kept blinking. I can't control that!!! Then the eye doctor came who was ruder still and told me she thought I had glaucoma because my eyes were so sensitive. I was literally seeing spots because of all the machines they used. They never once asked me if I wanted to take a break or offered me anything besides terrible customer service. They made me feel like an invalid. Now that I have my prescription, I'm concerned they didn't even test my eyes properly because I am not blind. I can drive just fine without glasses. Based on this terrible experience, I now need to go find another eye doctor which I'm not happy about, but at least I'll get tested properly so I can get the right glasses for me. read more

Not only was the eye doctor thorough in the exam, she (I saw Dr. Mayemura's wife, who filled in for him when he was sick) was thorough in general. She asked about my migraine and allergy health and made sure that some of my eye disorders were still doing what they should. Frames are a bit pricey (which is normal for a small, independent eye care place), but they made sure I got frames that weren't just "okay" but "blew me away." I felt like I got my money's worth for once and walked out happy. The frames actually fit instead of being belt weird to try and fit. read more

Careful, thorough eye exam but the frames and lenses are very expensive, even with vision insurance. I won't be returning because the optometrist made an error on my portion of the bill for a new pair of eyeglasses after insurance and now I am out an additional $99. I wouldn't have purchased the glasses had I known the actual cost. I called the billing office for an explanation but have not heard back. A staff person did leave a vague message on my phone before the bill arrived in the mail. I also tried to get lenses replaced in an existing frame for my single vision computer glasses and was quoted a price of $148. For single vision lenses, without the additional $85 for glare reduction coating. I passed on that option and will get those lenses elsewhere. The selection of frames is also limited - very conservative choices and limited color selection. read more

This is kind if a mixed review. Positives: excellent optometrists. Very thorough. Staff is very professional. Negatives: Frames are very expensive. Optometrist caught something which required special tests that he could do. He did not accept my mainstream health insurance and the test would cost $300. I went to an opthamologist (M.D.) and had the test done and covered by insurance. I'm very thankful that Magnolia caught the problem early. I wonder if Costco would have. read more

I'm a classic, chronic procrastinator when it comes to doctor visits, even eye doctors. But a fuzzy world seen through an out-of-date monacle is no fun, so I decided to give Magnolia Eye Care clinic a try. I used to be a customer there once upon a time, but unfortunately that office and other nearby businesses were destroyed by an arsonist several years ago. Fortunately, the suite has been completely rebuilt and is currently occupied by Dr. Ken Mayemura. My decision to go back turned out to be an excellent one. The staff was friendly and attentive, and they were able to get me an appointment with the doctor right away. Dr. Mayemura was thorough and efficient during the exam, and he took plenty of time explaining what was going on with regard to a persistent retinopathy issue which sometimes afflicts stressed-out, type-A personalities like me. He definitely got my attention with a nifty computer program which showed the problem in living color. He also cued me concerning warning signs to look out for, and made me promise to call him if any of the symptoms got worse. My only minor complaint about the whole experience was that the little machine which blows air into your eyes to check for glaucoma didn't seem to be working. After about ten failed attempts by the doctor's assistant to get something on the digital readout besides an error message, my poor eyes felt like they'd been assaulted by a nervous puffer fish. Fortunately, Dr. Mayemura had an alternative method of doing that particular test. After the exam was over, it would also have been nice if they had they offered me some temporary sunglasses. My eyes were dilated and it was so bright outside that I practically had to feel my way to the car. Perhaps I should have asked... Magnolia Eye Care has a decent collection of quality eyeglass frames, although some of them tend to be on the expensive side. They also carry a variety of contact lenses and supplies. All in all, I was impressed by the quality of service I received, and I would recommend giving Magnolia Eye Care a try. read more

The Not So Good: Expensive! The costs office visits for eye care are average but this clinic seems more costly for contacts and glasses than other Eye Care facilities. Days and hours of service are frustrating! It is tough to follow the hours they are in the office and schedule appointments. read more

Magnolia Eye Care is our family eye specialist - and we have five kids, so it's a big family! The whole crew, including Sharon, Renee, and Dr. Ken (just to name a few), are great. When I recently had a severe eye infection, they were incredibly quick to respond and to try 3 different medicines very rapidly until we found the perfect one that made my infection go away. And then the followup was great. I work for a high-tech company in a very highly-scheduled environment and Magnolia Eye Care was awesome about working around my schedule - probably more awesome than I deserved, given how high maintenance I can be. I have never written an online review of anything, I specifically signed up to yelp to write this review. Do not go to this eye doctor. 1. They bill incorrectly; even our insurance company agrees they charged $25 for the eye exam, $40 for the contact fitting, and $25 for the visit when you come back wearing your new contacts. No doctor is ever suppose to charge for the visit that you come back, it is suppose to be included. And regarding the first two charges it is based on a % of their expenses, but I have never paid that much over ten years and three+ other doctors. Even when you tell them this they still charge you, even when the insurance company calls them they don't resolve the issue. 2. They dilate your eyes and provide no eye protection when you go outside, this is very harmful. There are alot of eye doctors you don't need to deal with a rude staff that rip you off when you are trying to check "eye exam" off your list. read more

Magnolia Eye Care is the only place for me. I love Dr. Mayemura as he is so knowledgable and friendly. I have terrible, terrible eyes and MEC has always been there for me when things get bad. They've even stayed late when I noticed a blurry/wavey patch in my vision just to make sure my retnia wasn't detaching. Their staff is really great at navigating the terrors of insurance and make the whole thing painless from start to finish. That's service! Really, everyone there is great. Michael, the optician, is a sort of "glasses concierge," or maybe "glasses wizard" would be a better way to put it. He's great at finding the perfect frame for not only your face, but for your perscription. I'm super near-sighted and twice now Michael has set me up with great glasses that really play down the thickness of my lenses. I can't say enough good things about this place! read more

(They are an older model and not carried in stores). When they arrived, he took his broken glasses and new frames to Magnolia Eye Care. They were quick and friendly, and explained the meaning of everything they did.
