I can't speak to what it's like during the school year, but for camp, my girls, who were 3 and 4, would come in, and immediately want to poke Pete the cockatiel at the front door. They spent a lot of time playing outside in the fabulous playscape that NDS has in the back - and the facility as a whole is incredible! The giant treehouse... gosh, I would have loved to have had that at my daycare when I was a kid! The teachers were all very warm, and I felt like my kids got a fair amount of hands-on education about cultures (each week of the camp focused on a different country). I love that they used that theme to introduce them to a number of different things - art from the country, music, dance, and even foods! My youngest loves to cook, and I hadn't expected that, so it was delightful to have her so engaged in something both fun for her and educational. I can't say I have any negative feedback at all - we've been to a number of daycares and summer camps, and dropped into this one last-minute after a previous childcare arrangement fell through, but they were very flexible, played well with our girls, and they had a lot of fun - I guess I only wish they were open a little longer! :-) It was a little tough having to wait until 8 a.m. to drop them off, since both my husband and I are supposed to be at work then, but we were able to finagle it for the two weeks we were there, and my kids definitely didn't want to go home :-) They still ask to go visit Pete the bird every time we drive by, and I'm so glad they had such a good time while they were there. I wish every childcare center was as much fun as New Discovery School!

I wanted to experience a group of "real" parents, who can appreciate (and at times commiserate) all the highs and lows of parenting. 3. Affordable. As a single-income family at the time, we needed something that we could both afford and met our standards. (My husband and I are both educators.) Kirkland Co-Op Preschool both met and exceeded our expectations. But the thing that has probably surprised us the most is the families and friends we've met along the way. My husband and I have expanded our "tribe" to include many of the families we've met at KCP, I'm so glad we made the choice to join. Our sons have been nurtured by not only the teachers at KCP, but also by the parents. The parent involvement piece is a big commitment, but our kids have benefited immensely from it. And I have been able to witness their growth in the classroom the whole time. It's been a really precious experience. Our twins are going to kindergarten this fall, but our youngest is going into Group II this year. If you're looking for a place for your family to find true community this is the place for you! They really try to build a community with parents, teachers, and admin through events (e.g., spring potluck, harvest festival), volunteer opportunities (e.g., class field trips, work parties), and parent-teacher conferences. My husband and I review the activity feed on Brightwheel and we're jealous of all the fun he is having!

They truly care about all the kids and do everything they can to provide a safe and fun learning environment. One unique aspect of Horizon that is great for our kids, is that the students rotate on a set schedule to different theme classes every 30 min (themes include, computer class, Spanish, art, math, reading, etc.) with their teacher. So your child is guaranteed a diverse learning environment with lots of creative opportunities in lots of different areas. We LOVE Horizon! We definately recommend it to all families looking for a caring pre-K to 1st grade environment where their kids will learn to love learning.

Small class settings with well planned lessons. My son loves changing classes and loves his teacher Miss Britt! There is a great emphasis on the arts and families are invited to enjoy stage productions several times a year. It is wonderful to see your kid perform on stage! We love the different classrooms including math, art, and computer. The kids have a full gym and take gross motor classes everyday which include everything from riding bikes to yoga! There is a beautiful outdoor playground complete with a tire swing and sandbox. Parents are very involved helping to create a wonderful tightly knit nurturing community. The entire staff truly loves the work they do and it shows! We wish we would have been able to send our oldest child to Horizon as we see a huge difference in the quality of education our youngest child is getting. A truly amazing school!

But my outgoing and independent kid also declared it the "best school ever" and wishes we could go every day. The range of activities for kids to do keeps them thoroughly engaged as they play and learn. There is a great balance of free play time, outdoor time, and more structured circle time. Snack is also done in a way that lets kids be independent while getting the support they need. And often there is a 'cooking snack' that they get to participate in preparing - they love that! I'm always amazed by how creative and fun the activities are. It's never just pages photocopied out of a coloring book. And there is always something new to try. I'm not sure how they come up with all their ideas but I'm sure glad they get to do all those cool messy things at school and I don't have to do them at home! The best part of coop are the teachers and parent educators. You see right away that this is a passion for them, not just a job. The kids and parents immediately feel that they care about them and that they are in a supportive, safe environment. Coop follows a positive discipline method that gently guides kids to expected behaviors in a way that is always developmentally appropriate. Teacher Christi is an actual child whisperer. She leads them effortlessly and cheerfully, never raising her voice or showing any signs of irritation. She is endlessly patient and understanding and manages to be simultaneously sweet and firm when it's necessary. I honestly wish she could be my kids' teacher for as long as they're in school! I think I am a better parent for having been in coop with my kids. The teachers, along with the parent educators are there for us as well - not just the kids. It is truly a learning experience for all involved and provides a rich community that is supportive and caring. I recommend this coop to anyone with kids this age!

And our son has bonded with his teachers and his other classmates and is so excited to go to "school" every day. The class spends a ton of time outside everyday, rain or shine. And the kids are constantly engaged in activities that help them learn and grow in their own ways. We have also bee extremely grateful for Whizz Kids accommodating our sons allergies and dietary needs. They have also been doing and excellent job with the COVID-19 pandemic with taking precautions to keep everyone safe and secure during this uncertain time. I am so happy to have found this place. Having both a Toddler and an Infant we have worked with the majority of the childcare providers throughout the school--and they are all outstanding. I feel that Whizz Kids is an extension of my home: a supportive atmosphere where children are loved and nurtured. Learning there is hands on and creative. Lesson plans are organized and aptly communicated to us as parents. Additionally, we are able to see pictures of our children online via a secure website as they engage in various activities throughout the day--this is a welcome repreive from work as it makes me feel more connected to my kids! Professionally, I manage a group of clinicians who provide care to seniors, not fundamentally unlike a Childcare/Pre-School, just working with people at the other end of life. Finding the quality people who are caring, responsible, educated and professional is a difficult and never ending task.
