We stopped by this market for a deli sandwich on our way out to the beach and they did not disappoint. We tried two of their signature sandwiches, the Classic Deli and the Talking Turkey although they do have an option to build your own. The rye bread for the Talking Turkey was so good, the Brie combination with the cranberry sauce was amazing. The classic deli is everything you want from a deli sandwich! Service was fast and the market itself has a lot of great options of premade salads, sushi and sandwiches. I tried their Kale salad with cranberries, pickled onions and walnuts, so good! read more

A natural foods grocery store that is employee-run? Yes, please! I've been by this market many times but only recently stopped in for the first time. I was at The Barlow for a meeting and needed to grab lunch. There are many delicious options but I was looking for something healthy, reasonably priced, and quick and easy. I stopped in and was delighted to find some freshly-packed, vibrant looking salads in the deli section. The peanut noodles - so yum! - plus a kale salad with ginger, some Hippeas for a salty snack, and a Yerba Mate drink and I was out the door for a lot less than a sandwich elsewhere! The store is bright, clean, well-organized and well-stocked. And the two employees I spoke with were helpful and seemed happy to be there. I'll definitely be back and I look forward to exploring more of their offerings! read more

Love this market. They have raw dairy items and I drive from Santa Rosa to buy it. They have a lot of other hard to find items as well. Their hot bar is small but everything is always so yummy and they have unique items that you don't find in other hot bars like Whole Foods or Oliver's. I had a very uncomfortable and disappointing experience at the Community Market in Sebastopol. My sister and I were followed around the store while trying to shop, which made us feel extremely uneasy and unwelcome. It was clear we were being watched closely for no reason, and we couldn't browse in peace. After I purchased a healing oil, my sister noticed someone from the store followed us outside (very sneakily)which felt invasive and completely inappropriate. This crossed a line and made it clear that I would not be supporting this business again. As two white Caucasian women, I was shocked to be treated this way and can only imagine how others might feel experiencing this type of behavior. It's unacceptable and disappointing from a store that's supposed to support wellness and community values. I will not be returning. Oh and I also returned the item I purchased. There were about five guys in the security area, when I told them I wanted to return this item after being followed out the store and when I showed Nathan what was in my bag he was speechless. They didn't realize we caught on they were following us, pretty quick. It was just an awkward and awful experience. Their butcher shop is my favorite place to get high quality cuts of meat in the area and I enjoy the overall selection of items they carry at the community market. I liked their deli up until this point as well. Everything is fresh and tastes great, but this is the fourth time in a row my sandwich is missing something. They have even forgot the meat in the sandwich twice now. This has been the only downfall and sadly I'll no longer be ordering sandwichs. read more

I happened to stumble across this quaint market while enjoying some time with friends at The Barlow. I needed to pick up a few things at the grocery store so rather than do it when I got back home I decided to check this place out since I was already parked in their parking lot. Besides, once you're on autopilot sometimes you forget where you were going to and just end up at home. LOL Well I am very glad I stopped in here. This place reminds me of Whole Foods but just a tad smaller and they also have items that I've noticed WF doesn't carry. I found myself browsing for more than what I really went in there for initially. Prices are very reasonable comparable to WF as well as some that are better. The 2 employees that I interacted with (on the floor and the check stand) were both very helpful, courteous and friendly! I definitely will stop and shop here whenever I'm in the Barlow and I'm in need of some groceries as is very convenient and it was a very pleasurable experience. read more

So good to see an employee run not for profit natural food store like this, I didn't know they existed anymore! The staff are some of the friendliest caring people, and their coffee shop & taproom is so welcoming & has a great selection of drinks and coffee offerings. We had the best cup of drip coffee there that we've had in Sebastopol, and at a great price too! Also has a great community bulletin board, really helpful when visiting to get a sense of events happening during our visit. Extra healthy grocery store - you won't see many familiar brands here if you are like me and typically shop at the big chain stores. Staff was friendly, aisles were super narrow so I was constantly in people's way as I stopped to browse. Awkward and inconvenient. Community market is the one of the best places in Sonoma County to get fresh local foods. The Garden, which is the little coffee shop they have attached to the market, is extremely reasonably priced and the drinks are delicious! First off, supporting local is a great thing. However, they are beyond limited. Great drink selection and chip selection. But not much more. The salad bar and hot bar is not as superior as Whole Foods or Oliver's. It's very limited and pretty hippy dippy food. That lead to a bit of a disappointment. No fresh fruit is available on the bars either. The only fruit I can find was for $5 in a teenie weenie container. The prices are much less expensive than while foods or Oliver's I stopped in for a snack but unfortunately, there just wasn't anything here for me. There is a nice little grass area out front with a fire place. Plenty of parking in the Barlow and there are two single stall bathrooms available. read more

Nice local market that had some great local fresh produce. On our way back from a weekend in Santa Rosa, we got some strawberries here and they are some of best I've ever had! My only regret was not stopping here on way TO Santa Rosa so that we could have picked up local produce from here and enjoyed it during our stay as well. read more

It may sound small, and it's a huge deal!! I just had a decaf almond milk caramel mocha! It was amazingly delicious! I am visiting town for the second time in the last six weeks. I'm spending my Thanksgiving here at the Inn by myself mostly grieving, and healing. I am very grateful for my experience in town in general. I''ve been attracted to Sebastopol for decades, and I am glad that I have the means to spend a little time walking the streets and meeting some of the people and friendly dogs. The Barlow folks, the smaller places on main, folks just around town...just easy. And I know we are all carrying various levels of suffering. A smile means a lot these days! I support the Market's mission. However the requirement to keep a retractable shelf out in the check-out lines is confusing to me. There is nothing written of this rule, and why it is imposed. It seems like a small thing, but I tire of keeping up with the changing rules of this market. And instead of being data-driven, it seems like a knee-jerk on the collective opinion of the employees or customers. I see nothing about obstructing an egress for sake of sanitation either on the Sonoma County site, the CDPH, or CDC. Or the efficacy of such a measure. Furthermore, I do not see any other local grocers imposing this measure. I would implore management to take a measured and informed response to the issues facing local businesses during this pandemic - and make this information clear to the customers. This grocery store has chosen to take a strong political side on an international issue in a way that highlights they have a severe lack of understanding of the issue at the very least. They have done so in a way that fosters hatred and division, ostracizes their Jewish customers, hurts small businesses, and chose to do so right during major cultural Jewish holidays. This is probably the worst natural food store I have ever been to. When I went in to their frozen section I found products that were processed with genetic engineering. It is very disgusting to me to know that they do not take the quality of their food seriously. Who knows if produce section is even organic. How do we know that they don't just take the cheapest produce they can find and put an organic label on it and charge triple the price. On the other hand the deli at the store is phenomenal. Just don't eat the vegan egg salad. When I went in there on Wednesday morning One of the cashiers helped me with a return. This cashier was very unprofessional and disrespectful. I asked the cashier for his name and he responded with why the fuck do I need to tell you my name. I proceeded to stay calm and ask for his manager as he was not wanting to help me with what I was there for. And when the manager arrived he was also very disrespectful. When I proceeded to ask him for his name because I will be contacting the BBB. As I walked out of the store being insulted and called names I asked the manager for his name. He responded with my name is the real slim shady. I believe this is not true due to the fact that Eminem does not work at the grocery store and if you did he would not work at such a unprofessional place. The employees at the door did all my shopping for me in a quick, friendly & efficient manner. she knew exactly what was in stock when she looked at my list. I've shopped here occasionally and know what I usually buy here- I had a list. I arrived during the shelter in place order but ventured out to get a few fresh items after not going to town for a few days. Gave employee my list @ the door (as they decided not to allow customers inside for good reason! Every customer touching everything probably not good until we get a handle on this situation!) I'm really happy to be living close to Sebastopol Community Market for several reasons. I love that the produce is all organic. In other supposed health food stores (whole foods) only about half of the food is organic. The employees are very friendly and knowledgeable. And they offer a discount for folks over 60 twice a week, which is helpful. read more

Community Market on the outside looks like it should be a great addition to the neighborhood, but really they're just another highly overpriced shop in the Barlow. Before the flood in February 2019 they put in more effort to keep their standards higher but since reopening it seems like they don't care. It took almost a year for them to get their kitchen and deli up and running again and when it did open the food has been mediocre at best. A sandwich will cost well over $10 (Sebastopol Liquors and Deli two doors down is almost half that) and they can't even keep basic items like breakfast burritos with meat on their steam table consistently. Your options are tofu or spinach. I've order the $14 bagel with lox and cream cheese only to have it served on an untoasted bagel. Complaining to the manager just gets you an noncommittal hippy answer like, "they do what they can". It's nice that the customers are supposed to lower our standards to accommodate the staffs abilities yet still pay the store top dollar for substandard service. One last thing, $28.99 for a four pack of hard cider? C'mon. Shop elsewhere people. Whole Foods is around the corner. read more

This place is like a mini-Whole Foods. Pricing wise, I would say it is probably equivalent since some of the bottles & snacks here are quite pricey. They're sort of setup like Whole Foods in that there is a hot foods bar, sandwiches, and other goodies you can consume. On weekends, they often times have plenty of vendors giving samples everywhere in the store. They have their own dedicated butcher with fantastic meat selection, and their beer selection is definitely solid considering all the local brews in the area. Ah, my favorite market in the North Bay! This is actually a great place to hang out if you find yourself in Sebastopol for the day. Their hot bar is excellent; there's always something delicious for vegans and vegetarians, usually involving curry and/or tofu and they provide these dandy little cups for the purpose of sampling. The deli serves vegan and GF pizza by the slice and lots of other options for those with food allergies. They have an extensive section of alternative ice cream and some single serve treats in a freezer near the check-out counters. Coconut bliss bars... yum. Their bulk herb and spice section is truly a thing of beauty. Where else can one purchase ascorbic acid by weight? I believe they sell bulk lotion, shampoo, and conditioner as well. There are seating areas both indoors and outdoors and there's a cooler of free water by the door. I don't generally buy their produce as it is quite overpriced but I *do* like to pick over their "sad fruit" pile wherein flawed fruit is just $1 per lb. read more

While the market is nice, I'm reviewing the deli. We were looking for a nice lunch spot and decided to give this place a try. I ordered the fiery phoenix chicken sandwich. While the heat level was much lower than the name suggested, it was easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten!
