I really loved everything I got here. I had the Oreo fudge brownie - it was the best brownie I've had from a bakery in the city. Hands down there was no question about it. We also got the cheddar and herb scone. On first bite it was tasty, nicely salted, not too dense, a little flaky without being crumbly and buttery. Then I heated it up in the microwave and it was a whole other level. The cheese was melty and gooey, the pastry was even lighter. I wish I didn't have to share the rest with my husband because I wanted to eat it all! Located on the 4th floor of the bok building, this bakery has a small storefront at the opening to their immaculate kitchen. The natural light all throughout this building is amazing but it just added to the light and airy feeling this afternoon. The bakery is on the back of the 9th st side of the building but as soon as you get to the 4th floor, the signs and the smells will guide you there. Service was nice and efficient. I have heard so much about this place from my daughter so I did not even check their reviews or photos of the place. When we got to the place I was a bit surprised how small the space was. We waited in line to get the breakfast sandwiches fully prepared to just take it to go and find somewhere else to sit and eat. Fortunately, while we were waiting for our food a table opened up so we quickly grabbed it. The breakfast focaccia sandwich was very filling. We got it with bacon and it was a bit salty. I woke up super early expecting for such a large crowd. Instead I was met with a very mellow group of 3-4 people lining up to get their hands on this sandwich! Once I got to the front I ordered way too many things but this review is strictly reflective of the Sandwich. The focaccia is impeccable, it's also so big I was able to share it with 2 other people!The donut version is so interesting and it combines sweet and savory beautifully. Overall I would reccomend everyone try it at least once! If you're not a fan of sharp cheddar it has a very strong flavor and if you don't eat meat get it with no bacon! Second Daughter is on the 4th floor of the Bok building and helpful signs guide you to their unassuming space. There's a small amount of seating while you wait to order at a window. I ordered 4 items, 2 sweet and 2 savory. I haven't tried the savory yet but the two sweet items, both fruit centered were delicious. And I mean that. Very, very good. That being said, it's pricey. I'm not saying it's not worth it or they don't deserve just know that the usual $7-8 you might pay for pastry is going to be $10-$12 here. Parking is a luck of the draw so keep that in mind. read more

Second Daughter Baking never disappoints! My birthday was yesterday. I had a yummy sans rival cake but still longed for something chocolate. I walked over to my absolute favorite bakery to get a cookie or brownie to have with lunch later today. I couldn't resist the walnut brownie, topped generously with nuts. The baker-owner and workers are always so pleasant. After patiently listening to my rant about the bakery downstairs, the person at the counter asked, "Do you want center, edge, or corner? I came here today because my coworker at an event nearby had read that they had the best breakfast sandwich in Philadelphia. She was really excited to buy one for everyone at our event, and she sent me to go buy them. Imagine my surprise when I got to the front of the line and discovered that for whatever reason they don't sell any breakfast sandwiches on the weekend, despite the fact that this is the item they have been written up as selling in various publications across the city. Now this alone, although annoying, would not affect my rating as they have the right to sell whatever they want whenever they want. My issue is that the incredibly obnoxious young hipster person working the register looked down their nose at me like I was street trash. She had an awful attitude, and when I inquired as to whether or not they had any breakfast sandwiches at all responded, and I quote, "Sometimes we have them on Sunday, we post about it on our Instagram." Listen, that may be the case, but your average every day person is not going to check your social media feed to see what items you're serving on what day, and even if they were going to do that, you could be a lot kinder to your potential customers. Lovely lady behind the counter, very soft spoken and friendly. Their shop is very peaceful and they have a dispenser with still and sparkling water. There is limited seating but the Bok building is so big, you can probably eat while walking around. I was in a mood for savory and got the only savory option that they had that day. The mushroom pastry was very delicate and flaky - and fragrant. Definitely a good brunch option. I will definitely be back for the sweeter offerings - which they have many variations of. read more

The line was about 45 minutes on a Saturday morning but it was worth the wait. The pie and cookies I ordered were absolutely delicious.

A gigantic brown butter dark chocolate chip cookie!! I usually don't go for super thin cookies but this one was soo good! It had the chewy texture that I like with a bit of crisp on the edges..plus the pools of dark chocolate and the sprinkle of sea salt... I've been missing Philly bakeries since I moved six months ago, and I'm so glad that Second Daughter now ships certain items like brownies, cookies, and muffins! I ordered the brownie and cookie tray (16 cookies and 16 brownies/I cut the one block that arrived into 16 pieces, minus the tray), and 6 muffins. The website still said blueberry muffins, but it was banana or orange-cranberry that were in-season, so I ordered the orange-cranberry. Everything was good, especially the brownies!
