I reached out close to a year later after I had saved up the estimate amount, and the response was quick and efficient - they were even able to move up my retrofit appointment earlier when some free time opened up on their work calendar. The crew that showed up to do the work was very friendly and took care to clean everything up at the end of the day, and was happy to walk me through what they were doing and answer my questions. I called these folks as I wanted to achieve Earthquake insurance as we were considering a new insurance, and in the end found out it was already included with our currant insurance co.. Nonetheless; I like my old 1908, and did what was right and had them retrofit the foundation regardless. They did an amazing job, and strapped the whole foundation, as well as added joist hangers to the whole joist system to tie it all together better(back in the day they just toe nailed a few long nails and moved on).. Nonetheless; I've very confident its all secured and a bit over the top, of which I like... No change in invoicing, no surprises, and a great crew that was considerate and clean. read more

Daryl with SS installed seismic retrofit on my home in April 2019. His crew were professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. I spent a lot of time researching what I wanted to do, there are various options out there, and plenty of marketing retrofits. I worked with an independent structural engineer (BJ from Cascadia Risk Solutions) to perform an assessment then create engineering plans. I received multiple quotes from different companies. Daryl was not the cheapest but neither the most expensive. I decided to go with Daryl because his pricing was fair and he was patient, professional, and willing to answer all my questions. We got earthquake-retrofitting bids from a few companies, but we're glad we went with Secure Seismic for shoring up our 1907 Portland house. Daryl and Drew not only know what they're doing with older Pacific Northwest houses, but they explain things in a clear way, do their work efficiently and cleanly, and follow up to make sure you're comfortable with the results. We were out of town for our retrofitting and felt confident leaving our home in their hands - Daryl sent photos and updates of the whole process (and then explained things further when I replied: "I'm not sure what I'm looking at"). They also found a lot of random junk from our house's previous owners in the crawlspaces (which we'd never even ventured into, since they were boarded up) and removed it so they could do their work, at no extra cost to us. We returned to a clean basement with fresh drywall and paint (perfectly matched to the sections that weren't replaced), and even a good vacuum. Then they came over to give us insurance paperwork and explain all that they'd done. Hopefully it'll be a long time before The Big Cascadian One puts their work to the test, but we feel much safer in our house now, and recommend these guys to you too. read more

When we moved to the West Hills last August, my wife had two rules: no houses on stilts, and the house we bought would get a seismic upgrade. We got 3 bids, and I'm so glad we went with Daryl and Drew. Not only were they efficient, friendly (and clean!) in getting the house bolted to the foundation, they diagnosed and fixed a sagging joist that was causing an area of our main floor to tilt a bit. (That could have been a HUGE problem down the road!) Secure Seismic wasn't the cheapest bid we got, but they were so, so worth the money. Now every time we hear of an earthquake off the coast, instead of being a bit panicked, we're relieved that Daryl and Drew took care of us. Awesome job. read more

I was thinking about retrofitting for some time. Part of our house is supported by posts and is a difficult area for retrofitting since i did not want to have a support wall. But after all we decided to retrofit with the wall. We hired Secure Seismic as the bid and their proposal was very reasonable and response time is incredible. As we started Daryl an Drew worked post support without adding the wall!! Everything was painted (all paints were matched, etc), cleaned. You can notice the bolting plates (we have finished basement, so part of the retrofitting was done from the outside) only you know they are there and really look for them. I can not be happier - the house is retrofitted and you can not really see that it is. It was a pleasure to work with Secure Seismic. I really recommend them to anyone who is looking to retrofit the house. read more
