Since I used online reviews like Yelp, Google, and Nextdoor as one of the reasons I chose Oregon Chimney to do my chimney repair I feel obligated to post an honest review with pictures of the unprofessional work done by Oregon Chimney. Online reviews only work when folks post the good the bad and the ugly. You get to decide which one this is. I wouldn't recommend Oregon Chimney at all. The mason crew they send out (Rene et al) tried to scam me and rip me off. I paid $7000 for a full chimney tear down to the roof line(plus some shoulder work and re-tuck pointing of the lower portion of the chimney below the roof line). I left in the morning shortly after they arrived when they were just starting to tear down the old chimney. When I came back ~2 hours later they were magically already almost done with the entire rebuild? You could tell by the poor quality of their work that they only took the old chimney down about 1/2 way to the roof line and then haphazardly started to rebuild before I returned. The part they did rebuild looked horrible. It had inconsistent, non uniform, oversized and wandering tuck point joints of different sizes. Also instead of being square like the old chimney was it flared out toward the top and was slowly getting wider from where they started 1/2 way down to the top. In addition the new flashing they used looked horrible as it had excess visible caulking and was high profile and sticking out looking very unprofessional. Further more the "shoulders" of the chimney had sloppy mason work and they didn't even clean up the old joints before they put a sloppy coat of mortar on top. Oregon Chimney has multiple mason crews and it seems there is no accountability to the customers for the work they are sent out to do on their behalf. In my case there was no inspections, evaluation, documentation, or photos taken of the work done to be reviewed by Oregon Chimney management? I wonder how many other unsuspecting customers Rene also did this to. I doubt I was the first one. Was the owner of Oregon Chimney even aware of this situation? Honestly I am surprise the owner or someone else didn't reach out to me directly after I sent in the photos of the unprofessional work done by Oregon Chimney. Instead I had to call several times to even get a response at all, and then it was only a lackluster text response. The employee who was text messaging me (Charlene) also has horrible customer service skills and basically said that Oregon Chimney doesn't operate like that when I called them out for trying to scam me and not do the work that I paid in full for. The only reason I even got a response from them was because I sent them a Certified letter letting them know that I was going to file a complaint with the Oregon CCB (which is required by OCCB). Charlene's initial response was asking me to pay more money ($800) for them to come and clean up the work they did do...I'm not kidding. I have text messages from them proving this. They also said the poor quality of work they did do was because they reused the old bricks! When asked why they didn't do the full tear down to the roof line like I paid for Charlene said they had photos they would provide showing me that they did indeed do a full tear down. Of course they never provided these alleged photos because Rene never took any and they never did the full tear down to the roof line, instead only going about half way down (on a rather tall chimney I might add). Eventually(after I sent them the certified letter stating I was going to file a complaint with the Oregon Contractors Certification Board) they did say they would redo the work and rebuild the chimney like my contract that I paid in full for explicitly stated. However they wanted to send Rene and the same crew out to do the second rebuild! I said that was completely unacceptable and I needed an entire different and better crew do the new work. After the second crew was finished with the redo/rework I had requested someone come and inspect and review the new chimney rework with me when done. When their lead mason Jeff arrived he had absolutely nothing to say about the work. Barely spoke to me at all. Literally no comments on what was redone. Didn't discuss what the second mason crew did, redo, fixed or anything? I did all the talking. No one from Oregon Chimney ever apologized or thanked me for being patient and understanding and willing to work with them. In fact they wouldn't even acknowledge that their previous mason Rene tried to rip me off and scam me. I could go on and on about this horrible experience. Ive got receipts, photos, and text messages to back up my review. I gave them a generous 2 stars only because they did come out eventually and redo the chimney work and it was at least adequate/acceptable the second time. Otherwise I would have given them 0/1 star review (which is what they deserve for the experience I received.

Great communication and quick repair! I got a custom cap added to my older home and Oregon Chimney was great.

Oregon Chimney came to inspect our chimney and it ended up being a very simple repair. They serviced us with just what was needed.

(The work site was accessible from the alley so we we didn't need to be home for him to review it). A week later, I texted and asked if he'd been by, and if he had any questions. He sent a bid, which was lower than others and we booked him for the work. On the day of, Joe announced that he was charging us twice as much because he didn't know there was any demo/paver removal involved- which he would know if he'd looked at the site before bidding the project. We were frustrated but agreed because the timing was critical for the next phase of our project. The bid was for 8" deep, with rebar. I came out when he was 1/3 of the way into the pour to discover Joe was pouring 2"-6" deep, with no rebar. When I questioned him, he flatly lied and said it was 8" depth until I offered to get a measuring tape, at which point he admitted it wasn't. He then tried to pour using our uneven pavers as the form. When confronted he noted he'd use an even edge- we afterward discovered he used lumber from our property for framing the pour. There are so many more issues, I wont outline them all. The end result cost twice as much as originally bid, and may need to be jackhammered out so that it can be poured correctly.

The old driveway was removed on Friday. On Monday the forms and rebar was installed. Then the cement truck arrived and the concrete was spread evenly 6 inches deep. The surface was smoothed out evenly. Then, Coca-Cola was sprayed over the surface which prevented the top layer of cement to harden. Later in the day, Joe returned and washed the top layer of concrete away exposing the aggregate. The finished product looked exactly as Joe said it would.

The overall process was not as smooth as we expected from System Pavers given its name and pricing tier. There were several miscommunications and/or mistakes that we had to catch and bring up ourselves (sometimes repeatedly), which was disappointing and stressful. However, at the end of the day, everything did get addressed to our satisfaction and for that, we're thankful for the team we had.

I was able to schedule a free consultation on their website the next week and had Dan come by. I am a pretty indecisive person but Dan did an amazing job taking my vision and helping it come to life. The estimate was done the same day, I felt some pressure to sign the deal that day but negotiated what I thought was fair. I was originally told a time frame 1-2 weeks earlier than what happened, which is one of the reasons why this is losing a star. Eric, the construction manager, came by with Dan a few weeks later to do an initial construction walk through and he also suggested adding another level/ stairs and helped me figure out a drain situation. I appreciated the feedback and ideas. Overall, both Dan and Eric went the extra mile and were responsive when I reached out. The week of construction, communication on when they were coming, progress, etc could have been better from the Crew itself but it is a sub-contractor.. (which is the other reason for one less star). The team worked hard in 80+ degree heat 5 days in a row, were very polite to me and the job was done quickly. Eric did a final walkthrough with me and I pointed out a couple minor flaws and they were quickly repaired the following week to my satisfaction. Overall, I recommend this company as they back up their product and have a good warranty. It is pricey, yes, but I believe this is a good investment and I have really loved spending time in my new yard. Thanks!

So, this summer, we decided to move forward with the plan to be "soakin' for the holidays" three months away. The only thing standing in the way of that dream: the slab and its neighbor had sunk a few extra degrees, roughly three inches, at the far edge. We were going to need to shore up and permanently stabilize this slab if our hopes of the (3-ton when filled) tub were going to materialize. I made a quick call to Terra Firma and they had an estimator out within a few days. The pricing was reasonable and had the standard 50% up front 50% when complete-type contract. Casey arrived spot-on at 8:00am yesterday morning and began doing his magic (the process involves boring 1/2" holes through the slab, then using high pressure and heat to inject a molten expanding foam under the slab.) The foam is rated to support about 5 tons (10,000 pounds) per pound of foam material, and....100 pounds later that whole slab is back to following the prescribed slope perfectly, raising almost three inches on the sunken side. He did a great job and was a great rep for the company, explaining what little was left to explain. He kept me up on the status of the (4-hour) job as he went along--because our slabs had previously cracked, he had to gently lift it up in small sections so as to not have the sections separate further. Perfect job. 24 hours later and the patched holes have dried to almost-invisible (see photos). Unless you know what you're looking for, you can't even really see that repairs were made. Now I just need to fill in the pre-existing cracks with concrete patching caulk and we're ready to schedule the hot tub delivery! Yippee! Thanks Terra Firma!
