I was surprised to hear from Oregon Chimney three years after they completed work at my house. My experience with them back then was good, and I've even referred them to others. So when they sent me a past due bill out of the blue yesterday and threatened to send me to collections over it ("I really don't wanna have to send you to collections" is a direct quote), it left a sour taste in my mouth. If they had approached me and said "Hey, we're so sorry, we just now caught this billing error," it would've been easier to stomach... or even better if they ate the loss as a learning lesson for their billing department. Since three years has passed, I don't have the paper trail to know why this amount wasn't paid - it was $220 compared to the $3800 I did pay, by the way. They said they've tried to contact me about it since, but I have no record of that. I'm not sure why they're just now asking for it - new management? Financial trouble? While the original service on my chimney was good, the handling of this situation has left me disappointed and reluctant to use or recommend them in the future. read more

Since I used online reviews like Yelp, Google, and Nextdoor as one of the reasons I chose Oregon Chimney to do my chimney repair I feel obligated to post an honest review with pictures of the unprofessional work done by Oregon Chimney. Online reviews only work when folks post the good the bad and the ugly. You get to decide which one this is. I wouldn't recommend Oregon Chimney at all. The mason crew they send out (Rene et al) tried to scam me and rip me off. I paid $7000 for a full chimney tear down to the roof line(plus some shoulder work and re-tuck pointing of the lower portion of the chimney below the roof line). I left in the morning shortly after they arrived when they were just starting to tear down the old chimney. When I came back ~2 hours later they were magically already almost done with the entire rebuild? You could tell by the poor quality of their work that they only took the old chimney down about 1/2 way to the roof line and then haphazardly started to rebuild before I returned. The part they did rebuild looked horrible. It had inconsistent, non uniform, oversized and wandering tuck point joints of different sizes. Also instead of being square like the old chimney was it flared out toward the top and was slowly getting wider from where they started 1/2 way down to the top. In addition the new flashing they used looked horrible as it had excess visible caulking and was high profile and sticking out looking very unprofessional. Further more the "shoulders" of the chimney had sloppy mason work and they didn't even clean up the old joints before they put a sloppy coat of mortar on top. Oregon Chimney has multiple mason crews and it seems there is no accountability to the customers for the work they are sent out to do on their behalf. In my case there was no inspections, evaluation, documentation, or photos taken of the work done to be reviewed by Oregon Chimney management? I wonder how many other unsuspecting customers Rene also did this to. I doubt I was the first one. Was the owner of Oregon Chimney even aware of this situation? Honestly I am surprise the owner or someone else didn't reach out to me directly after I sent in the photos of the unprofessional work done by Oregon Chimney. Instead I had to call several times to even get a response at all, and then it was only a lackluster text response. The employee who was text messaging me (Charlene) also has horrible customer service skills and basically said that Oregon Chimney doesn't operate like that when I called them out for trying to scam me and not do the work that I paid in full for. The only reason I even got a response from them was because I sent them a Certified letter letting them know that I was going to file a complaint with the Oregon CCB (which is required by OCCB). Charlene's initial response was asking me to pay more money ($800) for them to come and clean up the work they did do...I'm not kidding. I have text messages from them proving this. They also said the poor quality of work they did do was because they reused the old bricks! When asked why they didn't do the full tear down to the roof line like I paid for Charlene said they had photos they would provide showing me that they did indeed do a full tear down. Of course they never provided these alleged photos because Rene never took any and they never did the full tear down to the roof line, instead only going about half way down (on a rather tall chimney I might add). Eventually(after I sent them the certified letter stating I was going to file a complaint with the Oregon Contractors Certification Board) they did say they would redo the work and rebuild the chimney like my contract that I paid in full for explicitly stated. However they wanted to send Rene and the same crew out to do the second rebuild! I said that was completely unacceptable and I needed an entire different and better crew do the new work. After the second crew was finished with the redo/rework I had requested someone come and inspect and review the new chimney rework with me when done. When their lead mason Jeff arrived he had absolutely nothing to say about the work. Barely spoke to me at all. Literally no comments on what was redone. Didn't discuss what the second mason crew did, redo, fixed or anything? I did all the talking. No one from Oregon Chimney ever apologized or thanked me for being patient and understanding and willing to work with them. In fact they wouldn't even acknowledge that their previous mason Rene tried to rip me off and scam me. I could go on and on about this horrible experience. Ive got receipts, photos, and text messages to back up my review. I gave them a generous 2 stars only because they did come out eventually and redo the chimney work and it was at least adequate/acceptable the second time. Otherwise I would have given them 0/1 star review (which is what they deserve for the experience I received. read more

My 7 year old roof developed a leak at the chimney area. A roofing company provided a temporary fix. I obtained the services of a highly rated home inspector who confirmed that the roof needed to be replaced and so did the chimney counter flashing. He recommended Oregon Chimney. They came out immediately to assess and give me a quote for repair. I accepted the bid, as it was very reasonable and their company had excellent reviews. My roofing company was very accommodating (I needed to get back to an ill family member) and so was Oregon Chimney. Even though their schedule was pretty full, they worked me in. Roof work was completed on a Friday, and Oregon Chimney did their repair that following Monday morning. Later, a friend inspected the repair and reported it was done well. I asked for a quote and OR Chimney sent one of their techs out. Said he needed to get the quote approved first by someone in the office then they would send it to me to approve and sign. They had it reviewed and sent to me with a contract to sign. I looked it over and signed it and sent it back to them. I called to schedule the work and I was told they needed to review the job again. A few days later someone else came out to assess the chimney again and I was sent an updated quote of $2000 more than the original quote on the job. These guys are fantastic. They came out and looked at my ancient chimney (house built in 1905!), got up on the roof and checked all around, and gave me a very reasonable quote to overhaul the whole thing. Not only that, but they were able to squeeze me into the schedule much faster than they initially thought. The two guys who came out were great, they explained what was up, listened to my questions, were willing to accomodate things I needed, and did a great job. In the end they tuckpointed about a third to a half of the chimney, put a new cap on, managed to remove the old rusted-shut flue, and replaced it with a brand-new shiny one that WORKS. Prompt & Professional Used Oregon Chimney for an inspection of a crack in our wood burning fireplace insert (heat shield). Great communication from the office scheduling staff, and on the day of service, I was called to see if the technician (Jeremy) could come earlier as he was ahead of schedule. He was at the house five minutes later, and quickly determined that the crack was not an issue. I genuinely appreciate that he didn't look at the situation as a sales opportunity. Jeremy told me what to look for in the future, and explained the way these fireplaces are built. I expected to pay a service call fee, but Jeremy mentioned that they offer free estimates. I don't know about this company as I've never used them and never will if their drivers are any indication of how they conduct their business. At 2:30 pm this afternoon I was nearly run off the road and into a medium by one of their trucks that wanted into my lane. His maneuver was entirely unnecessary as there were no cars for half a block behind me yet he needed to be in front of me. I honked but there appeared to be no awareness by the driver of my presence. I can only wonder if he was impaired in some way and would have called the police if I'd had a hands free device to do so. This occurred on Cesar Chevas Blvd in NE Portland. I recently had this company come out and inspect a fireplace because I have had water come into the downstairs walk out basement around the fireplace. I did this because a company called Brick by Brick recommended that my water problems were not do to poor soil drainage but due to the fireplace itself. I first called Portland Chimney and Masonry Inc. They came out and said I needed $1600 worth of work on the fireplace and that would solve my water coming into the house problems . Thank goodness I got a second opinion from Oregon Chimney Repair and Cleaning!! This company was so honest and forthright about the issue. They said my fireplace was in great condition and that it was not the source of my water intrusion problems. They advised I contact a water proofing and drainage company.
