The location is well-secured, and I was glad to see they use a 7 digit passcode, not a 4 digit one, which is much less secure. The units were sturdy and clean. Their billing was very clear and transparent, and they offered an easy auto-pay option. Their location is right off highway 599 (you can see it from the highway), which is very convenient. The manager, Jimmie, is incredibly helpful and friendly. He responded promptly to email inquiries, and we met him in person when we were cleaning out our unit. We brought us ice-cold water on a hot day, and also offered to help us move some of the larger items. I cannot recommend them highly enough, it's a very friendly, well-run local business.

We are obviously very interested in keeping our stuff in good condition, safe and secure, and in a controlled climate. In comes Armored. We set up a smallish indoor storage area and started moving our stuff in. The manager of Armored was really helpful, accommodating not only my wife and I moving things in, but also our movers who we hired separately. He could have said something like "yeah, your unit is over there, go to town", but he didn't. He walked me and my movers up to the unit, offered up his carts and dollies for the move. Not only that but he helped us move the truck into place right behind his personal vehicle. After a couple hours and we were not sure of the capacity of our current storage unit to hold all our shi...stuff, we asked the manager if we could get a larger unit. Unfortunately, there were no larger units available, but the manager said that he would help us get an additional unit if we needed it and make us a good deal on it to boot. Very nice! We ended up not needing additional units, but it was so cool for the manager to work with us. Great space and great service. Thanks!

I left without renting a unit due to the storage unit employee being rude. I went to fill out the…read morepaperwork and saw a pen laying on the desk in the middle of the surface. I reached for the pen to use and I was informed that the bic pen belonged to the employee. The employee then made comments about me picking up his pen. He also made statements saying that if I had a problem following the rules, I could rent elsewhere. I never said I was not willing to follow the storage rules. The only comment I made concerning rules was that I was storing a new vehicle with fewer than 50k miles on it and that I did not think it would leak any fluids but that I would find something to put underneath it. (the rule that was quoted to me 3 times was to have something underneath the storage vehicle). The other thing he did was to tell me two times that all the units were spaced the same. This was in reference to me asking him to show me where the available unit was located. I do not think he wanted to leave his office to show me the unit when I asked. The rental office was open 9-5 but he keeps the gate in front of his office closed. You must call him to make him open the gate so you can come into the office. I had to call twice before the gate was opened. The sign says that you must wear a mask to enter the office. I was also told that information by the employee. I feel like this employee did not want to rent a unit to me. No big deal, I rented a unit elsewhere. In the other self storage business, their employee was friendly and helpful. I will not be back to A-1 storage and I will share my experience with many.

Our storage space was robbed…read moreof over $20k of stuff by someone who had access to the coded gate and time to case our lock, and knew the cameras didn't cover the entrances our unit. The lock we used was one purchased from Extra Storage on San Mateo and the thieves were able to unlock it somehow. Since their cameras didn't catch anything and it's been some time since we were at the space our renter's insurance through Progressive is denying our claim since it MIGHT have happened before our coverage was started. A storage space that doesn't secure it's premises and and insurance company that doesn't cover losses.

Then, Samantha at 900 San Mateo went so out of her way to help me cancel my rental at her location and get me what I needed at the Rodeo Road location. There, Dee also went out of her way (and calmed me down, as this whole thing has been so whacky) to help me, explain how things worked, took me directly to the locker, and like Samantha and the gentleman at the first location, was kindness and helpfulness personified.
