Fixed my shoe super quick! Dropped it off on Friday morning at got it back Monday. They were very nice as well!

Do not get your shoes repaired here. I will tell you exactly why. For context: I was seeking to sell my Doc Marten's online however the only problem was that they had some localized and concentrated scratches on the toe that made them look unappealing. I researched scratch repair on youtube and found it was relatively easy yet buying the supplies was costly. I brought my shoes to Sedlak's on the premonition that the repair would be quick, cheap and bring them to look as I had seen online. The repair took the better part of 5 hours and upon returning to pick them up I saw that they were covered in a gross, uneven texture of whatever black wax they had used. Mind you, the scratches on my boot were isolated in nature and did not warrant an entire covering and henceforth ruining of the whole toe box. I was told that they do not do scratch repair directly, but can refinish the toe to make it look even, and less noticeable. This was fine to me until I had received my boots back and the once small scratches on a clean toe had ballooned into slightly less noticeable scratches on a toe covered in a disgusting spatter of bumpy black wax. WORSE STILL, I took my shoes back to the shop to negotiate a possible fix up or refund. I was told that the "nature of the scratches" meant that what is seen below in pictures was the best option. I kindly asked if there's a way to get the texture evened out (possibly hair brushing them) to which I was PERSONALLY HANDED the hair brush where for the following ten minutes I quietly, and vigorously brushed on the bumpy texture as best I could while the gentleman at the front desk helped other customers. IRONICALLY as I was doing this, an older woman came in and explained that they glued on her sandal strap the other day, and upon her daughter taking two steps in the sandal, the strap fell off. The gentleman at the counter told her "Ouhhh.. I was afraid that would happen" and proceeded to cautiously explain that their policy stipulates that they must CHARGE HER AGAIN for the strap that lasted but 5 seconds. She was not the least bit pleased. I am astonished that I was allowed as a customer to sit by the desk and fix the messed up finish of my boots that I paid to have evened out. What my $20 actually went to was a lesson on brush and wax friction and a right forearm workout. My reward was boots that look arguably just a bit worse than when I had brought them in. I am by no means an expert but youtube has shown me that scratch repair is doable by the average joe. I was not apologized to to any extent and the man helping me blamed all the issues with their repair to my shoe on the scratch. What they did was effectively put a tourniquet and do dialysis on my shoe that had a paper cut. If I knew that what happened would be the case I would've hoped that they would explain to me that the scratch repair is not in their line of work, and to seek extenuating help. I would rather be told that they can't do the job than pay to get my shoes destroyed. Do not take your shoes in to get any sort of work done to that respect. read more

I hoped to repair the zipper on a boot, and to support a local business in the process, but when I arrived the owner was standing behind the desk and not wearing a mask. When he left the desk to go into the back room of the store, I said to a (masked) employee that I'd noticed the owner wasn't wearing a mask and then asked after the business's COVID-safety practices. She went to the back of the store to let the owner know of my concern. His response--which I could hear from the main area of the store--was "did you tell her how old I am?" The employee came back out and dismissed my concerns, saying that the owner "has a face shield he wears sometimes." I let her know I would be taking my business elsewhere. Regardless of whether the owner indeed has a legitimate reason not to wear a mask, I find it concerning that this business would be so quick to dismiss a question about basic COVID-safety practices. read more

I brought a pair of new shoes in for some possible adjustments. I didn't purchase the shoes at Sedlak's. The two people working (owner and manager?) could not have been nicer. They tried everything they could to help me and spent at least 15 minutes measuring and trying to make any adjustments to my shoe. They did not charge me and I did not purchase anything. Good service and friendly people. They will get my business next time. read more

My pair of Trask oxfords had been horriby abused by walking in the rain with a hole in the sole. The footbed was ruined and lumpy. A previous cobbler could not fix it but Sedlak's did. These shoes now look and feel wonderful. Good shoes and a good cobbler adds up to another 20 years for these shoes. read more

I have a leather handbag that is my favorite. I purchased it while vacationing with friends and it has value for me. The zipper was misaligned and wouldn't stay zipped. I thought it couldn't be repaired. I stopped by Sedlak's as a last ditch effort to save my bag. I was greeted warmly and the bag was taken into the back room for repair. In less than 2 minutes I had my bag back, good as new, and at no charge! I honestly cannot recall the last time someone in business was generous with their skills and tools without charging. A good selection of Filson garments, and they can order any product from them if they don't have what you're looking for. Filson stuff is timeless and very well made, in the USA (Seattle, mostly). Hence, it's expensive, but worth it. The amazing part is, the prices at this shop for Filson products are better than buying from them online. They offer a good selection of top quality shoes for men and women. A good go-to place for a gift for the lady in your life. Went to Sedlak's Boots & Shoes to get a pair of Red Wing work shoes. My new job has me on my feet for many hours at a time. It was the most informative shoe purchase I have ever made. First, I was asked to stand on a pad that helped determine where my foot pressure and balance points were at. After taking measurements, I was professionally fitted with a very comfortable and supportive pair of work shoes. After I got my new shoes, I was given free a jar of polish, a bottle of conditioner lotion, an applique brush, a shoe horn and a guarantee! Now it's nine months later, and my Red Wings shoes are still as comfortable as when I got them. I really appreciate doing business with someone knowledgeable in their field and willing to ensure I understood the health aspects of properly fitted shoes. While the employees were attentive and helpful, the boots I purchased were quite the disappointment. I bought them from the sale rack in the winter, so about 6 months ago. They cost $100 on sale, so I assumed they would be at least of decent quality. The very first day wearing them they became so scratched that it was apparent I should never have bought them. They are black, but at the slightest touch, the black finish scrapes off and the bright white lining underneath shows through. They are not the type of scratches that polish off because they are not made of leather. So after about three months these boots looked so horrible that I do not feel comfortable wearing them. I would advise only to buy well known brands from them in the future, because there are no returns on sale items. read more

But I never would anyway because although the sales person was nice when I went in (it was not the owner), the shoes are nothing special and they are not even the brand I thought I was buying. Worst customer service EVER!!! Do not buy from this merchant! I tried to return shoes that had only been worn indoors (as is the practice of most shoe sellers). The shoes had hurt my feet. When I asked for a refund I was told it was their "policy" not to give refunds. This policy was not told to me prior to my purchase. When I insisted on a refund, the owner came out and verbally abused me, he yelled at me, he called me names, he was aggressive and rude. At one point I almost called the police because he was acting so irrational and aggressive. He finally gave me a refund, but removed 3% for the credit card charges (which is against most merchant service policies). And he told me to never shop in his store again. read more

Shop owner Paul Mumford has been helping me via email, as well as educating me about the disaster that was the rubber soles extant on my hiking boots bought elsewhere over a decade ago, which rubbery substance comprising the soles apparently falls apart after just a couple of years. (I hadn't USED my hiking boots but ONCE after purchase, so then when I took them out a couple of weeks ago for a hike, they completely disintegrated, to my shock! And the corporation which made them, who shall remain nameless, but which has headquarters in this same state, refused to stand behind them, despite all my efforts contacting them. In frustration, I ended up down at Sedlak's, where I tried on a set of Lowa's (brand was Paul's suggestion). He himself wasn't there that day, but the salesman Kevin was so helpful and nice. He suggested a better width for me, which the shop didn't even have available. Paul then continued to aid and advise me via email, even offering further ideas about yet another brand of boot, which is sold at different store in town!! This whole episode puts me in mind of "Miracle on 34th Street," where Kris Kringle advised parents to shop at Gimbel's, when Macy's didn't have the toy the child wanted! Anyway, thanks to Paul's incredible expertise as a cobbler for 40 years, I learned enough to finally feel confident purchasing (online at a sale price) a lovely set of Lowa boots, in the proper width, and with Vibram soles, which hopefully will last for many years. I NEVER could have had the knowledge to buy these things without Paul's kind and considerable help. Utter gratitude and respect for him and his shop are thoroughly cemented in my psyche! And he didn't make a dime from all this! Wow, that is 'old time service' at its best! read more

This shop is the reason Amazon is winning. I have given this shop three chances below are each of the outcomes: 1st time: Went in to browse (as most shoppers will in a small downtown setting) whoever the gentlemen working that day asks if he can help, I said thanks but just browsing, his response: oh great another one! 2nd time: I brought my fire boots (Redwing 809) in for a cleaning and to get some of the stitching fixed. Same guy as before says "These boots are too dirty I cant help you." "Ok fair enough can I buy a cleaning kit?" "We dont sell cleaning kits." "So the one on the self isnt for sale?" "No" Great, bye. 3rd time: "Hi can I buy some boot laces and boot oil?" "Are you a boot buyer?" What?? "have you bought boots from us before?" "No. Why does that matter?" "well if you bought boots from us we will give you boot laces and oil if you need it." "So can I just buy some laces and oil?" "No. I don't have a price on boot laces or oil so I can't sell them." "What?!?!" So this shop doesn't clean now sell cleaning supplies for your footwear. Nor does it have the capacity to purchase a set of stickers to place on miscellaneous items to label a proper price for sale. WTF are these jokers doing? This is a beautiful representation of wealthy intolerant Corvallis. They will gladly sell a $400 filson wool vest but if you want laces take your poor @$$ to safe way you transient. I have never ever been in a store that didn't sell the advertised prices. They do not support veterans or firefighters. such a joke of an establishment, impossible to figure out how to price boot laces whatever will I do!!!! Best customer service and the cheapest price on Kenetreck boots. Also threw in a jar of boot oil to keep them in great shape. They took the time to make sure they fit me. I sent them to Sedlak's with a note listing all the things I hated about my boots. They called me right away to discuss options, and did some modifications which solved all the issues. I was treated by the man behind the counter as if I was incredibly stupid. He seemed to resent my questions. I don't need to have that kind of negativity in my life! I bought a pair of walking shoes that were on sale. The toe box rubber was so hard that I couldn't feel where my toe ended to tell if the shoe was too big, so I expressed my uncertainty. The salesman, William, said I could have a "3-day trial fit", and take them home to walk around in. I decided to do it even though I live in Eugene, since I have such a hard time finding shoes that won't hurt my neuroma. After one day wearing them in the house, I decided to return them. William now told me that they couldn't be returned since they were on sale, and he never remembered telling me about the 3-day trial fit! I complained to the manager, Paul, but he would only give me a credit. This won't do me any good since I only go to Corvallis once a year for the Fall Festival. I will be sitting on $100 in the hope that I will find something next year when I need shoes now! These people will tell you anything to get a sale(they're on commission), and I wouldn't trust them or buy shoes from them ever again. William even bad-mouthed another shoe store around the corner saying that Sedlak's takes the time to make sure the shoes will fit. What a bunch of bull! read more
