Absolutely love See's Candies. It's been one of my favorite chocolate shops for years. I use to always stop in the Northbrook Court location for years and was heartbroken when they closed their doors. I even drove to the Algonquin location 10+ years ago and it didn't last long there. This is the only IL location left. Nevertheless, I will make the drive every once in a while to Downer's Grove just for See's. I've never been disappointed in any of the chocolates, and they are always fresh. The associates are always very kind and typically offer a free sample. Some of the milk chocolates can be on the sweet side, so I really like the dark chocolate options. The caramel varieties are very good - the butterchews are good and I especially like the scotchmallow, which is caramel and marshmallow. One of my all-time favorites is the butterscotch square. It's a very sweet brown sugar and vanilla forward soft center. It's reminiscent of cookie dough before you mix in the flour.. so ultra sweet and sugary, but in the best way. Some of my other top favorites are the rum nougat, beverly, mayfair, maple walnut, vanilla nut cream - basically any of the creams or nougats. I haven't tasted one that I didn't like. The lollipops are also delicious - as a coffee lover, I love the cafe latte flavor, and the chocolate ones are also deliciously rich for a hard candy. All of the flavors are good so the assortment is really nice too. If you like fudgy with almonds, the almond royals are a delicious chewy treat. I also love the peanut brittle bars. They are crispy, sweet, buttery, rich and oh so good. They are quite expensive, but for a once in a while treat, it is worth it. Any of their products make for a very nice gift for someone. It's an old fashioned candy shop. The smells and looks take you back to another time. The ladies there are formal feeling but pleasant which kinda fits the vibe. The candies are delicious. They were exactly the same in the 80s, unnecessarily condescendingly rude. However it seems to work for them as they are kept in business by those who tolerate insults. Company each year used to buy box for each employee and volunteer, including each child, A mammoth order, disappointing when they defended their carelessly filling the orders with whatever they wanted to get rid of instead of identical, fresh product... then refused returns of incorrect stale bixes. Company changed to Fannie May who offer to make special through their extra attention. Sad to hear they have not evolved. read more

This store has been around a long time and t'was nice to see it still going strong. We probably came in here starting some 20 years ago whilst still living out in Naperville. The aroma upon entering is indeed enticing. We didn't buy anything on this particular visit but have on numerous past occasions. I've always enjoyed See's Candies after being introduced to them by a Cali friend and also trying their now-closed Algonquin location. I went to this location to pickup some pecan turtles for my husband's sweet grandma's birthday. I ended up picking a holiday box and 3 custom boxes so everyone could get their favorite chocolate types. Custom boxes come in 1/2 pound, 1 and 2 pound sizes. There were seasonal chocolates like eggnog, pecan pie, pumpkin pie. My personal favorites are their California brittle, toffee-ettes, and nougats. Friendly service. Growing up in California, See's Candies was part of our holiday traditions. The tasty chocolates in the plain white box or peanut brittle added to the celebration. These are quality handmade pieces that have been consistent for 100 years. See's is the old time candy store. The style has not changed much since the 1920s. The all white interior with black and white checkered floor, the simple shelves along the walls with varieties of pre-packaged boxes stacked up and the glass case with each piece displayed on a little stand waiting to be hand selected to be enjoyed individually or as part of a customized box. Personal favorites of mine include the buttercream (soft center with chocolate shell), bordeaux, mocha crisp and chocolate covered nuts. There are many to choose from with soft centers, nuts and chews. There is also a selection of truffles. Warning, it is pricey. My last visit saw candy at over $27 per pound. But this is worth it! Maybe not everyday but definitely for a special day. read more

This is one of two See's locations in Illinois. (The other is in Algonquin.) See's does nice mass market chocolates, like Russell Stovers or Fanny May, only better. The chocolates are a little less sweet than Fanny May's. Chocolate is about $15 a pound; selections include dark chocolate English toffee (which is harder to find than it should be). They are known for their lollypops, which are a large hardish toffee on a stick in various flavors. They have a nice selection of milk and dark chocolate, and unlike many places, easily accommodate you with your preference when offering you a free sample. It's such a treat to be able to walk in and build your own custom half or full pound of chocolate. The staff is always so pleasant and they know their product. They're a staple on the west coast but with limited locations in IL, I feel blessed they're not too far away. During the holiday season, check their website, as many Macy's and Lord and Taylor serve as a satellite store. This location offers Business Gift Discounts and Fundraising items too . I owe my love of their sweets to a friend that won't buy anything but See's. He is so generous with his purchases... sorta like a dope dealer. You turn your friends on and they figure out there are benefits to Medical Marijuana. This is a tiny store. It was way out of our way. I can't wait to go back! Everything was melt in your mouth delicious. I bought way too much candy but will buy more next time. The two ladies there were very helpful and patient. They gave us free wrapped samples and were just as sweet as the candy. I would tell you what I loved the most but it really was all so good that I think you should go with your own instincts. The Butterscotch Pecan Bar has been my favorite so far. Move over Fannie May I have a new lover! Now, I discovered See's by accident. It all happened with a free mall sample, and I took it even though I'm not the biggest chocolate fanatic. I chose my favorite of all flavors, butter cream. O.M.G. It was love at first bite. I kid you not, after that free sample all I could think about for a week was how good it was. I mean, really. Valentine's Day conveniently was also around the corner, so ya know chocolate reminders are bombarding you everywhere you go. Just to be sure I wasn't hallucinating I went to another chocolate store that previously had my favorite buttercreams just to compare. It was like night and day, I wasn't dreaming! So yes I was just looking to buy a crap load of one flavor and sadly this kiosk didn't do that. So that's when I found this location. I sent my husband the directions and my Butter Cream Vday wish list. He thought I was nuts, but he's used to that. So on the chocolate hunt we went! We eventually made the trek over to this store between the 5pm close and our awesome schedules. It's a little store in a strip mall, nothing fancy. This place also gives you a free sample when you visit, which is nice, since a lot of candy places are stingy and pretty much you take a gamble if it's edible or not. I love my Sees! I was so bummed when they moved out of Northbrook Court. In my personal opinion, this candy is galaxies better than Fannie May and their chocolates are bigger too! My all time favorite is the Milk Butter creams and the peanut butter patties. Also, their scotchmallow is divine. There's always free samples when you visit and you can buy candy by the piece or make your own custom box. They also have a variety of prepackaged items, and I've never had a bad experience. As a native Californian I'm already biased. I grew up on this stuff and boy is it hard to beat! For any chocolate lover on any given day, they have something that will knock your socks off! Each shop is a fully stocked chocolate store that carries lots of variety. I personally prefer the Bridge Mix which includes dark and milk chocolate, nuts, chews and fruit. Yum, it's heavenly! I can gain weight just dreaming about how tasty these treats are! Their policy is to PLEASE, and they have AMAZING customer service. They sample each and every customer who walks in the door. You are getting a full piece of chocolate, not part of one that's been cut up into multiple slivers. Every single employee who I've met no matter which location emanates motherly warmth and a bubbly talkative personality. There are many choices and you can either purchase them a la carte or pre-boxed. They will wrap and ship. There is also a loyalty program but I believe that you have to purchase 50 pounds of candy at one time to become a member. Sigh, I'm still trying to figure out how to purchase that much at once just so I can be a member and reap the benefits! :) I drive 30 minutes to this See's location and wish it were closer. However, I'm sort of glad it's not in my own neighborhood so that every once in awhile I can make that 30-minute trek and treat myself to a slice of heaven! read more

My girlfriend ordered 3 boxes of chocolate and asked me to pick up. The store has a policy that they couldn't accept the credit card payment over the phone. The store manager who took the order was rude. If my girlfriend was confused about the store policy, you could explain it nicely. It didn't have to be rude. I told the manager she owed my girlfriend an apology!!! Apparently Downers Grove store is the only See's Candies around Chicago. And, having been faced with boxes upon boxes of Fannie May over my lifetime, it's nice to serve my guests something different. On my last visit we were greeted at the door with free samples. OK I love Sees candy, but right now I am kind of grossed out. My husband purchased a box of hand packed favorites for me and when I opened them I could see fingerprints all over many of the pieces that had a smooth finish. Yuck was all I could think as I threw them away. I have never , ever had this problem before and the box was wrapped and taped shut so no one was in them but me. I am so sad that I can not eat anymore from the cases as I can't see what is going on behind the glass. I imagine it was probably when whomever was packing the candy they touched all the pieces on the tops to arrange them. I know they are supposed to use tissues but there was no way you could leave all these melted in finger prints when using tissue. No thanks. I will only buy the ones that are sealed from the factory. read more

Went a few days before Christmas and ordered a 1/2 pound of milk chocolate buttercream. The woman pulled a prepacked box. I repeated what I wanted because the milk chocolate buttercream never come prepacked. The woman said this was new. Purchased and left. Got home and guess what? It is a shitty box of assorted.
