We chose to…read morestay at the Astor House to make a mini vacation out of this trip as it was our first time ever without our 10-month-old son, as well as our first solo trip since our honeymoon two years ago. This was the best decision we could have made. We had such a lovely stay here. Tom and Linda were so friendly and welcoming. Tom showed us to our room upon arrival to make sure we knew where everything was, and he also provided us with local food recommendations (the taco pizza from Happy Joes was phenomenal). Linda makes the best breakfasts ever that we are still thinking about. We had breakfast delivered to our room the first morning, and we enjoyed breakfast on the patio the following morning. The house itself is stunning, and our room (Vienna Balconies) was clean, cozy, spacious, and inviting. The jacuzzi was wonderful, and we were even supplied with approved bath salts, along with delicious local chocolates. Such a perfect and romantic place! We cannot wait to return to Green Bay someday just to stay here again :) Thank you Tom and Linda for sharing your home with us!

We had the absolute best stay at the Astor House and both my husband and I said that we have never felt more welcome at any guest house or lodging than we did at the Astor House. Both Tom and Linda went above and beyond to make us feel cared for, tended to, and spoiled by their intentional hospitality. The breakfasts were 10/10 and we ended up talking about how delicious the food was all day long. We stayed in the Marseilles room which was beautifully decorated, stylish, very large space, and super comfortable king-sized bed. More than anything, Tom and Linda have a natural gift for making guests feel both comfortable and welcome, as if we were family staying in their home. We highly recommended staying at this BnB, and we will certainly be back again the next time we are in Green Bay!

You can either take a guided tour (especially recommended if you're from out of town or short on time) or you can pick up a brochure at any of their OneStops and roam about on your own. But before you venture out, I recommend you study their website and also map your route. You can go to a pow wow Fourth of July weekend, or the Woodland Indian Arts Show (varies, but usually late June, early July); visit the museum to tour the permanent historical exhibit and special art exhibits. If you're a foodie you won't want to miss the Oneida Market at the corner of Packerland and Larson Rd. It looks like it's just part of the OneStop gas station but it's actually a separate store on the south side of the building. It's managed by a women's collective and they have a vast array of bulk coffee beans and teas, herbal supplements, foods produced by the Oneida cannery (pickles, jellies, etc) And their own locally, sustainably produced meat products, including beef and buffalo! Freshly processed meat comes in on Wednesday (hence it's known around here as "meat day") so Monday and Tuesday aren't the best days to shop...the refrigerated case is pretty empty by that time. In the fall, the tribe additionally operates and apple orchard with the best cider to be had anywhere.

One of the best tours I have ever taken and it was given by the Oneida Special Events Coordinator Kirby Metoxen and he gave me the complete history, religious, political and social structure of the Oneida Nations. In the span of a few hours we visited a garage sale which I bought a wood crafted Turtle which is one of the three Oneida Nation tribes and also saw the school system, apple orchard, farm, bison farm, sweat lodge area used for Native American sweat ceremony, Salt Pig Avenue which is a small road with very old and historic wood homes that are still standing, Church of the Holy Apostles which was also very old as we went inside and Kirby played an old tape of Native American church hymns on the speakers, the Oneida Market which would remind you of a Starbucks and had local food and coffee and the Oneida Nation Museum where Kirby had the Director tell me about the history and mission of the museum. This was so fascinating to hear about the history and plight of the Oneida's and how they are building their community today. I could not have asked for a better tour of this beautiful reservation.

The room was relatively large with a sitting area, desk, and second television. Instead of a lounge, The Pantry on the top floor is stocked with light snacks and soft drinks. During breakfast there are a few bagels and cereal. We went to a restaurant for breakfast. There is a Culver's across the street and multiple other hotels along the street. The staff is friendly.

I was hoping for more having been to the excellent Luxembourg-American museum in Belgium Wisconsin (go figure out that one). [You must be wondering do I only tour Wisconsin-based museums of small Northern European countries. I don't typically watch TV when I'm in a hotel, but it was cool to know that a television could magically appear at my feet with the push of a button. Other things that make The Legacy Hotel nice: the products in the shower smelled amazing, the lighting in the bathroom is super flattering, there is live music on certain nights in the bar lobby, there's a restaurant and a bar on site, the people at reception are exceedingly kind, and there's a bowl of Andes chocolate mints at the front desk. It's a bunch of little things that add up to a great hotel experience. The Legacy Hotel is located close to lots of restaurants and shops, some of which you could even walk to. I didn't, but you could. What I did do was take advantage of the gym (fitness center), which was decent and includes ellipticals, Peloton stationary bikes, treadmills, and some free weights. The fitness center is open 24 hours a day.
