I'd visited other acupuncturists in the past, but not for a specific problem. My earlier visits…read morewere for general wellness or stress relief. While effective, I never quite fit acupuncture into my regular schedule. This time was different. Some months back, I suffered a tendon injury that seemed impossibly stubborn to heal. It was highly frustrating and painful to be sidelined for several weeks from my normal activities, with little noticeable progress healing and, as a bonus, a handful of secondary problems piling up from disuse. On a recommendation from a friend, I visited Lucky Tiger. I was very impressed with Dr. Ciara's diagnostic skills as she quickly pinpointed the afflicted area and went to work with a regimen of acupuncture and moxibustion to stimulate the injured tendon and improve natural healing. By the end of the first session, my injury had made its first significant improvement. That progress made me a regular patient. Over the next few visits the injury healed up and the secondary issues began to clear as well. Now that I've regained my higher level of activity, I finally feel like my old self.

The office is very nice and cozy and does not feel antiseptic and spartan like most medical offices. There are lots of nice touches everywhere that let you know this will be very different. I filled out the usual paperwork and then had an exhaustive interview about just about everything I do, what I eat, how I sleep, how much exercise I get, what is going on with my entire family, etc. I was checked for all the usual metrics, blood pressure, heart, pulse and the like. She took my pulse in three separate ways on both sides of my body. My tongue was examined as this is standard practice in Chinese medicine. I have been going to another acupuncturist for the last six months that I consider excellent. Dr. Hu is a master at this ancient practice. She burned a mix of medicinal herbs that were very calming. The other reviewer called them incense but they are nothing like incense which is sweet and pungent. My treatment room was very private and there is a very calming atmosphere in the entire clinic. Afterwards Dr. Hu provided a written list of the things I should be doing to improve my health and wellbeing. There were specific dietary suggestions including some Asian roots and vegetables I had never heard of. I have to say it was the first time I have been to the Doctor where I did not feel rushed, where the Doctor took all the time necessary to get to know and understand my health and wellness challenges and opportunities. She provided a highly targeted acupuncture session that ranks as one of the best I have ever had. There may be other masters of traditional Chinese medicine in San Diego but it's hard to imagine there could be anyone any better than Dr. Hu

I had a bad experience with Dr. Hu on billing. She is in network with my insurance company and my…read moreinsurance told me that I have a $15 copay for 10 sessions covered each year in my current insurance. When I met with Dr. Hu, she told me to file a insurance claim myself and asked me to pay $415 out of pocket. I did with my credit card. While I was trying to file a claim myself, I was told by my insurance that my claim will be denied because she is in network with my insurance company and the only two options are: 1. Dr. Hu leaves my insurance company and becomes out of network so I can file a claim myself. 2. Dr. Hu files a claim for me. My insurance company also suggested me to call my credit card company and put the transaction on hold till we sort things out. While I contacted her and told her that, she got mad at me and yelled at me over the phone that I can't do this to her. She also said if she files through the insurance, she is doing me a favor. I told her that I don't mind filing on behalf of myself, but she needs to leave the network and she said she has lots of patients and can't leave the network. That leaves me no option. I feel very unset that she could have considered her patients more and work with me to find a solution rather than being condescending and only think herself.
