There's a laundry list of reasons to avoid these guys. My lab had a hard drive that begun to fail,…read moreso I priced out data recovery services nationally and locally. These guys were cheaper than many national services, but in the long run I really got what I paid for. Initially, I selected HCS from the 9 positive reviews (which turned out to be fake) they had here. I took the drive to them on Monday, May 10 and described the problem. They agreed with our in-house IT team's assessment that the drive was in OK shape and estimated that I would have the data back by the end of the week. It is now June 21, and I finally have the drive back. Let's start from the top with my gripes: 1. Awful Customer Service As I said, I took the drive to them on May 10. I would say I called them on average 3x/week after the drive was not ready on May 15, in order to find out when I could expect the drive back and to get any updates on progress. Every time I called, I was told that I would receive a call back from Gary (who I later found out to be the owner) with an update by the end of the day, no later. This only occurred one time. If the owner of the business can't be bothered to call customers back, particularly when a project takes 8x the length of time initially estimated, then you clearly don't value your customers. 2. They do not deliver what is promised I was told when I took the drive to them that since the data was large enough to need to go on a new drive, which would be billed to my project at market prices. When I got the invoice back, I was billed for a new drive at $99.00. Well, the "new drive" turned out to be a 3 year old used drive, that was half the capacity (original drive was 1TB and the "new drive" was 500 GB), and significantly slower (original drive was SATA, "new drive" was ultra-ATA). I noticed the drive was smaller when I picked it up and when I asked them why, they claimed it was to keep down cost. When I got back to my lab I looked this drive up, and it hasn't been on the market for 3 years, in addition, an identical drive to the one that I supplied could be purchased for $80 from a variety of sources. I think what actually happened was that I got billed $99.00 for a drive they had laying around their shop. (After physical inspection of the drive I believe this to be the case, there was wear on the metal components and cracked plastic around the IDE connector). 3. Padded billing I also received a bill for a "parts drive" for $200. I don't know how they arrived at this nice round number, but you could buy 2 identical drives to the original for less than this number, and I was not told why the parts drive was so expensive. In total, I received a bill for $500 data recovery cost $99 "market price" for the new hard drive $200 for the parts drive I find these numbers laughable when it took them 42 days as opposed to the estimated 5 for the project, particularly coupled with the fact that they did not give me a functionally equivalent drive to the one that I brought to them. They say a fool learns from his own mistakes, but a wise man learns from the mistakes of others. Please be wise and learn from my mistake. AVOID THESE GUYS.

These guys are great and worth every penny charged for their service. Several different technicians have provided service over the years and all have been top notch.
