Horrible customer service! Last night, my wife and I went there to place an order for a medium rosca with cream for $44.99. We paid for the order and were given a receipt with a 4:30 PM pickup time. I got there at 4:30 PM today, picked up the rosca, and headed home. When I got home, we cut into the rosca and they gave me one with no cream which normally sells for $24.99 ($20 less than the one with cream). We took the rosca back, showed the guy behind the counter the receipt and the original rosca that he gave us, and he told us that we can come back at 7 PM to pick up the new rosca with cream. My wife and I went back at 7 PM and we were then told that the rosca was just being put in the oven and to come back at 8 PM to pick it up. We didn't want to deal with going back and forth anymore and asked for our money back and the gentleman behind the counter with a white earbud returned our money. No apologies were given at all! Because of this experience, my wife and I will not be returning! We ended up going to Moreliana Bakery directly next door and got our rosca from there and it was delicious! read more

I cam here for lunch. Although, I didn't come here to grocery shop, I did see freshly made tortillas, bread and regular market items. I came here for the tacos and grilled chicken. The pollo asada was nicely flavored. I got the pollo asada combo. It came with grilled chicken, rice, beans, salsa, and fluffy corn tortillas. It was delicious and enough to feed 2-3 people. I also tried a couple carnitas tacos. Also delicious! The carnitas were moist and soft on feeah soft corn tortillas. The tacos here are good and the prices are nice. I would definitely come here regularly for the tacos and the tortillas. The weird thing is that you have to pay at the cashier inside the market, then being your receipt to pick up food at the grill, but that's not a big deal. My friend had apparently been here in the past and wanted to return to buy a product she remembered seeing (goya empanada wrappers). Parking was a bit of a pain, but she managed. Going inside it had a smell and I noticed immediately the bakery area to the left. The doors of the cases were wide open, some of them broken, bugs flying/landing on the pastries in the cases. Unfortunately they no longer had the frozen wrappers (we didn't even see a frozen section) so the trip was wasted. The few items I looked at were all expired. I hate shopping at Mercado for its over crowded parking lot, chaotic wait at the meat section, incredibly small aisles and the people who adore to abruptly stop and park their carts in the middle of these already small aisles. With that said, I cannot deny the fact that they make damn good marinated carne asada and chicken as well as, guacamole and salsa. Not to mention the precooked meat for carnitas and the BBQ chicken you can obtain from the guy barbecuing just outside of the store. Additionally, its all inexpensive. Now, do I think it's worth the hassle? I'm inclined to say "NO" but, as I drool over every bite of my carne asada or chicken, then I'm inclined to say "HELL YEA!" read more

Bought a medium rosca for $50 bucks. Topping fall off and they placed it in the center of the rosca. Lady had an attitude when I would ask her questions. Also where they have the pan dulce, there's always flies flying around on top of the bread. Won't be shopping there any more. read more

There were two specific things that she bought from this store. 1) The charcoal to grill her carne asada meat. 2) The freshly made street sized tortillas. They also have a small fresh produce selection, as well as a butcher shop, which comes with an array of meats. But, another added bonus is outside of the store -- FRESH and DELICIOUS tacos! The only downside is that the market is small, so you may not get all the items you need in one swoop. Also, don't be surprised if the cashiers only speak to you in Spanish. This is one of Chula Vista's staples to buy anything you need for your "real" Mexican food. I've been going to this location forever to buy fresh tortillas. You can go in and pick up a bag of hot fresh tortillas from a cooler near the meat counter. While you are there pick up a container of guacamole, salsa verde and salsa fresca. Than walk over to the indoor food counter and buy a pound of cooked carnitas. You have an instant meal in about 10 minutes! The best buys are usually in the produce area. You can almost always find avocados, green tomatoes, and cilantro to make your own stuff but I'm too lazy most days and buy the stuff they make because it's just as good. They also sell all the different cheeses used to make some of the more authentic dishes. It's not a big chain grocery store so there are things you would find cheaper else where but for the hot fresh tortillas alone this place is worth the trip. read more

I don't come to this store so often because they have the worst customer service ever. the cashier charge me twice and told her then she call the person in charge and they said to come back if the payment posted twice on my account which it did. When back and told the manager Jesus Valdez said that they couldn't do nothing about it when he had told me they will fix it that i need it to talk to my bank so that they can fix it. We came by for the rotessrie chicken family meal. Was delicious!!! And so not expensive. They give you about 6-7 pieces of chicken with about 10 tortillas. Small half pint of beans, salsa and rice. They have a great selection of corn and flour tortillas at different sizes. They also have a small selection of produce but all the staples are there. The grocery store is nothing special, good prices on produce and meat but a little more expensive on everything else. But on to the real deal: Their tacoshop is bomb-tastic. Theres a little taco shop (erm, actually I would just call it a window?) on the entrance side. Usually there's a grill cooking up chicken and a little tarp. I work right next door and they are my go to place for lunch. I've gone there so many times that they have my order placed right when they see me walking towards them. I get 3 tacos worth of meat with onions, cilantro, guacamole, salsa and a side of beans. Enough food for 2 small meals! The best part (besides the fact that it's DELICIOUS is there are no complex carbs and it leaves me full). Less than $8 for 2 square meals is a deal. The guys that work there are extremely nice and always very polite. And they don't laugh when they listen to my rough Spanish. :P Parking is a little rough, but the food is worth it. I can also score cheap produce here for my place of business when I need it: tamarindo, roma tomatoes, citrus fruits, avocados, and more. Downside is that their parking lot sucks. I was in heels one day and had to make a stop here. Navigating with a full carriage, in heels, on that steep incline was next to impossible. And no one offered assistance like they typically should when they see a lady struggling not to embarrass herself completely. No real quality of steaks at all here everything is lower grade which is why it is sliced thin. Outside they have a snack bar where they serve all kinds of tacos and also whole chickens on the grill They have adobada tacos here for only a buck which is a super good deal. Today I bought a pound of carnitas meat, 6 fresh tortillas and fresh pic de gallo salsa in a package for only 6.99 a great deal. I had not been to the store in months. I decided to stop by and buy some items for dinner. I needed some vegetables and I noticed how the tomatoes, onions, cantaloupe, were covered with black bugs. The cantaloupes were rotten and still for sale. I took some pictures and I called the clerk over and the manager happen to be close by. Her name is Lourdes. She saw me and was immediately very rude and asked me to stop taking pictures. I asked her why are they selling rotten food? Look these are filled with black bugs. She was angry. So I I just left to pay for my items and her and a man followed me to the register. And as I paid she was taking pictures of me. How unprofessional of this manager to treat someone like that. I will never return to that store!! I wonder what other rotten food they sell!! I will definitely be calling the health department. Be careful when buying milk at this store i went today and the milk had expiration day of today i gave it to my 22 month baby she then started getting diarrea and fever when i checked the milk i felt bad for my baby because i then realizaded it was stuck to the top sides of the two milks and both smelled rotten when i went back to Exchange it the cashier had to call an older man most likely the manager to authorize the return and he insisted that the milk was still good we explained what happened to my baby and he still insisted that the milk sometimes gets like that and still insisted that the odd oder was normal finaly after the casher told him to exchange it he finally exchanged it with a bad attitude this is the last time i go to this store. It's a small grocery store that offers the basics but with a couple hidden gems. First, they have an extensive amount of products from Latin America. Everything from sodas, mates, instant polenta, etc. Second, they have awesome prepared foods like tacos, burritos, pollos asados(you get a whole grilled chicken with beans and rice for around 10 bucks!!!) during the week.
