The art was interesting to look at. Enough so that we even placed bids on a couple of pieces. The appetizers were good and varied, and replenished often. A signature drink was offered as well as beer, wine, seltzers and water. The staff is friendly and approachable but not pushy. Questions were answered without making you uncomfortable. We met and chatted with staff and other guests. The musical guest @ishensemble was really good! Great jazzy feel! It's always nice listening to live music when you can just tell that they are enjoying themselves while playing their music. While the bathrooms were in the common lobby and around the corner they were clean and nice. I would attend again. read more

The abundance of wealthy phone/internet bidders ruined the experience for me. Items went for well over both estimated value and real value. If you don't mind vastly overspending then you'll have a good time. Stick to FB marketplace otherwise. read more

Went for the auction preview and cocktail reception. Had a great collection of sculptures by Father Mel and a lot of mid 2000 century furniture that was really nice. Throw in some other random art and it really is a nice collection for the auction, something for everyone. Had a very nice charcuterie table and a good open bar selection. I thought the Handlebar custom cocktail was too gingery but they had a good selection of craft beers and some nice wines as well. Also saw Mayor Spencer looking around as well. Always enjoy exploring their art auctions and cocktail hours. Oh and the band @ishensemble was really good! read more

The original Selkirk was a venerable institution in St Louis. But it was sold long ago and then flamed out gloriously. THIS AUCTION HOUSE IS TOTALLY UNRELATED TO THE ORIGINAL SELKIRK. THEY SIMPLY BOUGHT THE SELKIRK NAME. We visited Selkirk and attended an auction, with an eye toward possibly consigning some nice furniture from an estate I was administering. It was immediately obvious that consigning furniture to Selkirk would be a bad idea. There were just a couple attendees, plus a few online and phone bidders. Furniture was selling for ridiculously low prices, less than Goodwill etc. Novelty items did better, but still just thrift-store prices. I ended up just selling everything on Facebook Marketplace, and brought in probably ten times what I would have realized at Selkirk's. Selkirk is more like a thrift-store than a traditional auction house. Items are mostly downscale. Staff is friendly but basic and a little rough, not very professional. They attack negative online reviewers and accuse them of fraud (hopefully not me though!). Location is inconvenient, and parking is a major hassle. The auction itself was actually kind of fun, in a thrift-store kind of way. My advice to sellers: Before you decide to consign here, search their website for price results, and go observe an auction or two. Check what similar items sell for. Then compare to prices on Facebook Marketplace and other venues. Basically, nobody goes to auctions anymore. read more

I won an auction of a Picasso print in August of 2018. When it arrived, the certificate of authenticity was torn in half and was inside a UPS plastic sleeve. When I won the item, everything was intact so I assumed UPS had damaged it in shipping. I tried contacting UPS and they took a very long time to look into the situation. Turns out, Selkirk damaged the item because UPS said they picked up the torn certificate and put it in the plastic sleeve so it wouldn't be damaged further. A torn certificate reduces my investment since I have to declare that it is torn. Selkirk refused to take the item back because (1) too much time has passed (only because the UPS investigation was slow) and (2) their policy states that they're not responsible once the gavel hits. BEWARE. You could buy a $2,000 porcelain vase that was whole when the gavel hit only to have a Selkirk employee break it and YOU bought it. No recourse, especially if you are out of state. Lesson learned. No more online auctions for me, especially with Selkirk. read more

I purchased an item from Selkirk and I paid for it right after the auction. I contacted several shipping companies none of which picked up my item from the auction house. Selkirk continued to hold my item until a shipper finally picked it. They went above and beyond in their customer service and commitment to my receiving my item. read more

My experience with Selkirk has been a very pleasant experience. They have made it easy to place bids via on line or on phone for those of us who are too busy to attend the auction in person. I have been dealing with Madeline, and I cannot say enough good things about her! She has always been polite and helpful. She has a vast knowledge of items that are in each auction, making it easier to place telephone bids and get information on each piece. Every step of the way, Madeline was there to assist. I was not able to physically attend last month's auction. I placed bids on line. During the auction I decided to bid on a few more things, so I called Madeline. She was quick to help and got a bid in on an item that was currently going through, and got it in just in time. I was able to win that item! When I went to pick up my items, she even assisted me in loading my car. She then allowed me to walk through some upcoming items as well as ones that were passed on in the last auction, allowing me to purchase them if I was interested. In this day and age of horrible customer service, it is refreshing to see such great commitment to customer satisfaction. read more
