As a veteran of the U.S. Marines, I say without reservation that Semper Solaris has been an absolute NIGHTMARE to work with. Semper Fidelis is the motto of the Marine Corps and it means Always Faithful. Semper Solaris is ANYTHING BUT FAITHFUL and their use of Semper to promote their company is a DISGRACE. My wife and I decided to get a rooftop solar system installed prior to our utility company changing it's metering rates on April 15, 2023. We met with Sales Representative, Randy Reynolds on March 20, 2023, after meeting with three other solar salesmen. Semper's price was competitive, but it was the company's FRAUDULENT MILITARY PROFILE, which gives the impression that they are trustworthy, that appealed to me. So, we chose to do business with them. We entered into a contract with Semper Solaris and made the initial down payment of $1,000.00 for them to design our rooftop system. I took time off from work to meet with a Semper employee who conducted a site assessment and assured me that everything about my house was fine, things were progressing as expected and I could expect a smooth installation of my system. This week, I received a call from Randy to let me know that Semper Solaris will now NOT HONOR THEIR CONTRACT due to the pitch of my roof. Both Randy and the employee that conducted the site assessment observed my roof while on my property and should have been able to let me know of any issues weeks ago. Now I'm stuck with just 10 days to try to find a company that can install my system prior to the rules changing. I also have YET TO RECEIVE A REFUND OF MY DOWN PAYMENT. Semper Solaris prides themselves as a company with core values that were formed during their military service when, in fact, most of their employees never served and they are no better than Sunrun and all the other dishonest solar companies in business today. Semper Solaris started our job end of May. It has taken them over two months to dig the trench properly from the street to the side of the house where the breaker box is. A couple of guys would dig by hand for a day or two. Then a week went by without anyone working. Then a couple of guys would dig. Then no one for two weeks. The pattern repeated itself for two months. The inspector has been out three times and wrote up what was done incorrectly and the changes that needed to be to be made for the trench. There will be a fourth inspection coming up. If there is a foreman on the site, he is there briefly. Never have seen him/her and have never been given a name or contact number. Customer service is poor. No response to a lengthy email of mine documenting the poor construction progress. There is no construction schedule. No one to update you on what is going on with your job. They only communicate if you call them - to complain of course. The loan for the solar construction was received by Semper Solaris in January. We have been paying double for our electricity for five months - the electric bill and the loan payment. No solar in sight. This is absolute worse construction project anyone could have. read more

We have a signed contract with you, and measurements were taken on Sept. 26; we even have an email dated Sept. 27 which said the data was being reviewed and we'd receive more info, via email, within five days. That email was sent by Julissa. We are standing by for the "five day email". We've also left many messages to have someone call back, so we can talk about our roofers working with you, since we're using ballasts for the panels. One man named Sam called once, and left a message. We called back, and have never heard back. (To be fair, our salesman does call back, but he can only do so much to encourage someone to call us). One of your San Diego workers, Faith, has emailed, and given a number to call. If you do get a human (usually Faith), they say they've left messages for someone to call us back. On October 17, someone (a female, unknown name) said that she would have a supervisor call us; she specifically said that "Gwen Neugyn (Nugent?) would call us. We are still waiting for Gwen's call. And, do all your phone numbers, regardless of area code, go to the San Diego office? How do we get someone local to help us? If we haven't gotten some satisfaction by 3PM (Pacific), Thursday, October 24, we will want our $1000 deposit back, and, we'll be giving our business to another solar company. PS- Faith knows who we are...we're the customers in Greenbrae, CA. 10/23/19 Update...We have received a call from Semper Solaris; the lady apologized for mis-communications, and the company is working to resolve these issues. At this time, we are weighing our options. 10/25/19 Update...Kristine Hanks, Customer Experience Manager, has been on our case, and has worked diligently to resolve the issues in our complaint. i am stuck on waiting to schedule some technician visit at my place. they took 1 week to even schedule appointment and they scheduled appointment after another week. surprisingly no one show up and got message stuck at another job, without curtsey they scheduled me after one more week. so 3 weeks to even show up at my place :( read more

However, evidently, installing solar is way more complicated and I obviously need to waste 2 hrs of my life going over over-inflated financing options with the "consultant" just to get a quote for a full cash down installation. Getting them to do the work has been like pulling teeth, unfortunately. We had to have a project manager at the site constantly to ensure work was up to quality. This was on a million dollar home that was completely gutted to the studs and rebuilt. We regret using semper for this. We have had the worst time getting them to come to do the work. We recently found a whole section of flashing the roofers forgot. Make sure to check the contract vs the quote given. We had to fight to have them do certain things that were in the quote but conveniently forgotten in the contract. When pushing to get them to complete the gutter install, we were asked three times about what color and type. We signed a contract for it first time and they still kept asking. It was so strange and felt completely disorganized. I expected much more for a nearly $50k purchase. Will never use again. Buyer Beware! read more

We compared a lot of alternatives for Solar in the Bay Area. One competitor was even founded by guys who grew up on our street! We ended up with Semper Solaris because of the quality of their offerings, references about the quality of their work and their fair prices. Scott has been especially helpful as a project management interface making sure that we were satisfied and that everything had gone as expected. In the end we decided to go back to Semper Solaris for our Tesla PowerWall. read more

This part of the review is only for the roofing aspect of the project. In total, I am having a new roof installed, sub-panel upgrade, tesla battery and full array of solar panels installed. To date only the roof is complete. Porfirio Zaguilan and his team recently completed my roof and did a fantastic job and kept me well informed. As it appears his team is actually a sub-contractor of Semper Solaris, I was a bit upset at first since I was under the premise from the salesperson that Semper Solaris only used their own staff and not sub-contractors. In the end this ended up being better since it was obvious that Porfirio and his team are excellent at their roll as roofing installers. I have more confidence in their work then the company that installed my original re-roof on the house over 20 years ago. Time will tell but I would be happy to recommend Porfirio to anyone in the meanwhile. As for the rest of the solar project, I would give it a 2-star review since my contract date was in September of 2019 with a completion of 10-12 weeks. It should have been completed in Dec 2019. As of today, the roof started in January 2020 and ended that same month but nothing else has progressed since then. I missed the 2019 tax credit and still await movement of my panel upgrade, battery install and solar panel install. Recently I was contacted about the electrical panel install and confirmed that was another sub-contractor who knows nothing about the battery or solar panel part of the project. So, Semper Solaris seems to just line up sub-contractor for various parts of the job as they are available and piece together a project to meet the contract. In the end, this may work out if each contractor does a great job. So far, the roof seems to be well installed and the staff was professional. If the electrician and other aspects are as well executed, I will forgive the massive error they made when approximating the Start and Completion Dates in the contract. I should have insisted in a delay penalty in the contract since there have been no permissible delays due to weather. Only delays because they are not able to keep up with the number of contracts they must be lining up. Updates to follow...... read more

They (Semper Solaris) just finished up and what a great experience it's been so far. The installation team was here on time, they went through what they were going to do and what they needed from me (not much I might add) and got to work. They were done in 5 hours and that included some turtle talk! The noise was minimal so I'll wager my neighbours wouldn't even know work was being done had it not been for the trucks out front. Finally, Semper doing the dreary HOA filing simplified the process even more. In short, I'm so glad I went with Semper. The experience has lived up to your promises and then some. read more

We had our roof done with Semper and we were very happy from start to finish. We called several different companies and prices were all over the board with each company. Semper was a little on the high side for pricing but I had no idea what to expect. I ended up going with Semper because our sales rep held my hand all the way through from beginning to end. He showed up with samples and explained in very detailed how the installation will be done. He checked in via email andphone calls. You get what you pay for and I didn't want to end with a botched job and was very happy we spent a little more to make sure the job was done correctly. I would definitely recommend them! read more

I was very excited to work with a company that employs those who served in the military; I wanted to do a roof and solar panel combination. However, seeing how my roof was in sad shape, I wanted to do the roof replacement ASAP. The experience I had with the sales person john, was excellent. He explained everything very clearly, and was very responsive; working with him prevented this from being a 1-star experience. He recommended a shingles roof. The source of the problem is that Semper only has their own crew for solar panel installation; they find sub-contractors to do the roof work. I originally had a tile roof and in converting to a shingles roof, there is a height difference in the tiles because the tiles have a wave pattern. I have a two story house, but tiered, so there's a 8~12 inch gap in the outside wall of the second story that is unfinished and now newly exposed by the new 1st story roof. When the city inspector came, he said that this is not acceptable for approval. The subcontractor wouldn't let the inspector go, telling him, with me being there, that he needs the inspector to sign so he can get paid and finish the job. The inspector told me that it's my responsibility to hold the subcontractor responsible, he will sign the sheet that day but won't put it into the system until he hears back that this has been repaired. Semper's project manager, gary, was no where in sight other than the first day to make sure the roofer came to work. After the inspector left, the subcontractor said this is not his responsibility, he was contracted to put on tiles. I contacted Semper, they also said it was not their responsibility. At no time did I mention that I wanted anyone else to pay, but I needed help: there's a 30-year warranty on the roof, which is why I got that particular package, I needed Semper to recommend me another contractor to fix the outside wall so the warranty terms are not violated. I think they thought I wasn't paying, so they kept calling me through different people in what I understand now to be a very big company, telling me to pay. After talking to about 10 people, they recommended a contractor for me. I connected to this exterior contractor directly, and I paid an additional $8k from the original $24k roof, to correct the situation. Of course, semper was paid in full. I was still interested in continuing the solar panel installation, and the salesperson john had called back multiple times to say that he can reduce the price that what was quoted, due to this situation. But no follow-up after the roof was paid. I don't think Semper is a bad company, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to get roof work from them. The way they are setup with the sub-contractors, it is bound to create situations that is "no one's fault". If I knew that I was ultimately responsible with connecting sub-contractors together for this job, I would have gotten a better roofer, bought the tile myself, and got the wall exterior guys directly and saved some money. read more

I tried to call and txt y Melissa, txt Rebekah, and John (owner) and no response in reference to the mechanics lien that you placed on my home. Your company placed the lien against my property because I would not pay you the final pmt since my system was not 100%, and your staff at that point was rude. Very unprofessional company. The lack of communication and professionalism is extremely disappointing. They are quick to take your money and deposits but extremely slow on answering follow up questions and communicating with you through the process. They scheduled to arrive for a site assessment and stated that I did NOT need to be at home and I even emailed back to double-check that I did not need to be home for the process. They showed up to my house at the wrong appointment time and then called me at work asking for the passcode to enter my house! Saying that they in fact wanted me to be at home? Extremely unprofessional. They are unorganized and slow. I highly do not recommend this company if you are looking for people who cares about their customers and are smart, fast and efficient. I have had the solar installed for a few years now. The purchase and initial installation was excellent. Everything worked just as it should. 5 stars there. 1 year later the system was no longer reporting data. While it took a few weeks for them to decide to fix it, they replaced a part but it still wasn't reporting as it should be. While it took over a year to resolve, shortly (minutes) after posting on Yelp, someone from Semper Solaris's Customer Success team contacted me. In just over a week they had another technician troubleshoot and repair the problem. They replaced another part. It has now been working correctly for the last 2+ weeks. While frustrating that it took this long, I'm very happy with the last repair since everything is again working correctly. Note that at no time during the issue of reporting was the solar system not producing as it should. I just couldn't see the reporting that told me so. I've given several friends asking about my solar experience positive feedback on Semper and the team during my the first year. Prior to the initial posting, I successfully swayed 2 friends NOT to select Semper because of the support. I'll go back to them to let them know the issue is now resolved. read more

One of the reasons we selected Semper Solaris was for the excellent service they provide. That was true all throughout the installation process. Today, after more than a year after the installation, the post service is still excellent. Many companies will walk away once a product has been installed. Not Semper Solaris. One big reason is for Manny Rios, who constantly provides excellent, respectful, and honest technical support. Manny pays attention to details to make sure our issue is resolved. He is always on time and constantly communicates with us about his status. Semper Solaris will continue to provide excellent service as long as they keep people like Manny on their team. It gives us a lot of peace of mind in case there is a PSPS event in our neighborhood to have 3-4 days of battery storage. Jamie and Gwen and Alyssa and others I spoke to were extremely helpful. Everyone got back to me on my questions in a timely manner. The installation went off without a hitch and the installers were knowledgeable and professional. Giving Semper Solaris two more stars. Another crew came in and worked all day to fix all issues caused by the first install team (subcontractors?). My solar system is installed and connected. Will see if it performs as advertised. Hired an independent roofer to inspect and fix problems after the solar install. He found some issues (cracked tiles, etc.) and charged me $650 for repairs. Don't know if these were caused by the solar installation, so just paid for these repairs myself. Overall, satisfied with the second (successful) solar installation by Semper Solaris. read more

Great assistance by the extended team, especially Julia in scheduling and permitting. And, all of this at extremely competitive prices, lower than any other quotes. So after leaving my honest review of my experience I did receive attention. In fact, a crew showed up at my house the the following Monday- without any notification, and still without an electrician. They would need to come out 3 more times, and at least they let me know they were coming for 2 of them. The branch manager did step in to try and help out. If I had to rate him separately, I'd probably give him a solid 3 stars for replying to most of my communication. PG&E sent me permission to operate on Feb 18th. The branch manager contacted me on Feb 20th with an email about the next steps. Only took 2 days to send the email after PG&E sent theirs! It would take another 2 days for me to decided on my own to just turn the thing on. By Feb 23rd I had the monitoring turned on after reaching out to them to figure out how to do it. I was handed off to another Project Coordinator on March 13th. I'm guessing if she was on the project earlier that things might have been much better. They assigned her to my project a full 3 weeks after my Permission To Operate was received, so by then it was far too late. At least with her, any communication was quickly responded to. If I could rate her separately it would probably be 4 stars. Unfortunately, I only dealt with her for a very short time. Now about those bird barriers- you know, the problem that I brought up initially, was told that it wouldn't be a problem, and then asked again when I saw how high the solar panels were? Well, guess what? I now have my very own pigeon problem! Gee- no one saw that coming. I just got a quote from a pest service company for $2K to get rid of the pigeons, put a barrier around the panels and remove the nest that's underneath them. Yes... there is a nest underneath my panels. Thanks Semper Solaris! A couple more things: 1) My project coordinator told me that I would still be able to claim the tax credit for 2017 because that's when we started. I looked at the tax code and it clearly states that the tax credit is to be claimed in the year that the project is completed. 2) About the Solar Loan that is "on the equipment only". Yes it is on the equipment, but you will need the lien temporarily lifted if you refinance your house. I know this because I recently completed a refinance. They will tell you that it doesn't need to be lifted, but if it's not lifted that means if you refinance, the Solar Loan has first lien position on your home. There's a $250 fee for temporarily lifting the lien. Your mortgage company will not want the solar loan to be in first lien position. So while it's technically true that the loan is on the equipment and not the house, in practice the mortgage company will want the lien lifted. I really, really wanted this to be a good experience. I really wanted to be able to recommend them. I avoided updating the review because I couldn't recommend them, but didn't want to make it worse. But after the bump in the road caused by the solar loan and the $2K quote for something that should have been avoided... here we are. read more

This review is specific to the replacement of my dead inverter. I am getting additional solar panels and a couple of powerwalls from Semper and I will write another review after that is done. The service tech, Manny, that came out to replace my dead 13 year old inverter (from another solar company) is great. He was communicative and text me with his arrival time beforehand which was within the time window given. He was knowledgeable, friendly, efficient, and cleaned up afterwards. What impressed me the most is the after installation support. 10 days after the installation, I got a new router and need to re-configure the inverter to communicate with the new router. I needed the installer password and I sent Manny a text asking for it. Within 5 minutes, I got correct response and was able to log into my inverter. The only reason it's not a 5 star review is the time it took to get someone out to me - over 2 months. Thanks for your good work and customer service, Manny. read more

I am and home owner and architect and am building a new second unit on my property in Berkeley and hired Semper Solaris after meeting with John Garcia, sales representative, at my house. John convinced me that he understood the project requirements and we spent hours clarifying the scope and parameters of the PV system and how it would be installed on a new roof not yet built. He promised that Semper Solaris could provide the service needed. I signed the agreement and provided the $1000 retainer. From there it goes down hill. They will not answer my calls or emails. We are ready for the invertor to be installed and they don't show up nor respond to my calls or emails. This company is really un-organized and has very poor service and communication response. I have placed a call with corporate hoping that will respond before I am forced to install work them and back charge them. I may need to hire a new solar company at this rate. Don't hire Semper Solaris in the east bay. read more

I am having a very very bad experience with Semper Solaris. First they got the design and permits wrong as they put solar back for the whole house and did the work that way. I had to figure this out and then they apply for new permits and come and fix it but still did it wrong. They connected all my 29 panels to one battery which they should not have done it and i had to run around to figure the issue with Enphase and let Semper know that they need to fix it. My battery was installed in August 2022 and they come on Dec 4th to fix this issue and still got it wrong. Dec 29th again i talk to Enphase and let them know the issue still persists as they connected all panels to the battery. So one of my strings from the panel was turned off and half of my production was going waste since end of December and they rescheduled my service appointment to come and look at the issue in Feb 2023 only to write a report to their service manager. This report was not looked at until i made repeated calls and rope in the sales rep and finally got March 17 as the date to fix it and i put in a work from home. Today the day before i get a call saying this need to be rescheduled. They had no value for customers time or the quality of work being performed. I wished i never got the work done by them. read more
