We were in town on business and looking for a quick dinner spot. We were staying in Blue Ash, so Yelp led us to Senate. It was a little early for dinner so there was no waiting. Our server appeared almost immediately to take our drink orders. I was interested in a draft beer, but I prefer milder beers, so she brought two small samples for me to try. That was very helpful! I ordered the Lobster BLT and my husband ordered the Mexican Dog with all dairy offerings on the side (lactose intolerant). We ordered Duck Fat Fries to share. Our food arrived very hot (hooray! can't stand lukewarm fries!!) and extremely fast (hooray as we were very hungry!). My sandwich was wonderful. The lobster was sweet and very tasty. My husband's hot dog was also wonderful. The kitchen splits the dogs and grills them. The guac on the hot dog was fabulous. We would definitely go back. read more

Well, over the last two weeks I have been here three times already! My son Kyle, had mentioned Senate to me a while back. At the time he had frequented the one in OTR. Since I hardly get down to OTR, and the fact that there is usually a long wait to get in, I never found the time to go. That was a huge mistake on my part!! So anyway, after a hot day of cutting the lawn and opening the pool, I suggested to Kyle that we go get a cold beer. After all he did help me out a lot so I figured a cold one would hit the spot! We were going to hit a local brewery when I discovered on Yelp, Senate had a location that was close to home in nearby Blue Ash. So, after hearing that we headed on up there! We were seated right away, an outdoor table with a nice breeze was perfect. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, they asked if we had ever been here. They took the time to explain and detail some of the menu favorites. Everything looked quite tasty. Upon recommendation by Kyle, we ordered the duck fat fries and the Trailer Park hot dog for each. The beer list was extensive and the mixed drinks were quite unique. Our beer and cider arrived at the table quickly and ice cold! The fries were next to arrive, and shortly after our hot dogs arrived. The wait time was very short. Everything, and I mean everything was fresh and delicious, perfectly cooked. The sauce that's served with the fries is simply out of this world! Now, while I normally enjoy cole slaw occasionally, I have to say, the cole slaw on the Trailer Park dog is without a doubt the most delicious I have ever tasted! I was so impressed with this place, I raved to everyone about it. So much that the next evening I came back with my wife! Being a steak lover, she ordered the ribeye steak with the truffle fries. Once again I had the Trailer Park dog. My wife, Diana is known to be picky when it comes to hot dogs and such, and does not like cole slaw, absolutely loved the the Trailer Park! She even was surprised at how tasty the slaw was! Her steak though, well well well...OMG what a steak! We have had a lot of great steaks in our time, but this was hands down, one of the best! Senate is known for their hot dogs, but don't be afraid to try other things. The Tuna Poke Bowl is fantastic! It's fresh and filling and delicious. The hamburger is also very good. However, I do not recommend the gyro. It's not bad, but there are much better options elsewhere. read more

Great day in Cincinnati Sunday - started off weird, as we wanted to go to Wahlburgers downtown, but it was closed (prob because of the snow and weather.) So we ended up here and were very satisfied. There are two locations of this place - one in the Over the Rhine area and this one north. Best known for hot dogs (but we had those last nite at Jefferson Social!) - so she had a burger and I had the Eggs Benedict !!! Both were fantastic, the hollandaise on the eggs was fabulous. Then the bartender told us about the Jalapeño Béchamel and brought us a tiny sample - it was marvelous. Great beer taps - PSA from Madtree is never on tap in CBus so I was happy to see that. Two Sunday meals and four beers added up to a $60 tab, not too bad. The unnamed bartender told us she was moving to the OTR location as they were opening a third place downtown - she said it was going to be called "Holiday?" Looking forward to that - I spend enough time down here that I'm sure we'll run into her again. read more

You might assume that there are a finite number of hot dog topping combinations. If you are willing to step out of your comfort zone, senate will happily open your eyes to strange and delicious combinations. It's not for everyone and if you're a plain dog kind of person, the hot dog itself is among the best you will get. Made fresh here in Cincy and the oversized franks are made special for senate only. While it is likely to be one of the best hot dogs you will have, it's also likely the most you would ever pay for a hotdog. Many combination dogs are $11 and even the plain dog is a pricey $9. Although the size is equivalent to approximately 2 normal dogs. Beer selection via tap is quite diverse. Blue ash location is centered in new summit park and has a very nice outdoor patio. Although it can get busy, it is spread out and comfortable. Downtown location is in the heart of thriving OTR, but admittedly the downtown location very small and usually pretty congested during peak hours. I have had 4 experiences among both locations at the time of this review. Enjoy! read more

Holy MOLEY. Listen, I'm a good midwestern hotdog eater like all of the rest of us, but I was hardly expecting this kind of belly-stuffing experience. Quarter pound hotdogs split down the middle and stuffed with layers of toppings, thick-cut duck fat fries and truffle fries and rich gravy for poutine, and a huge selection of unique brews? Seriously, what else could you ask for? And yet, impressive stats aside, Senate STILL managed to be even better than I expected. Upon accidentally receiving one of our hotdogs with our appetizers, our waitress --without prompting-- offered to bring a new 'dog when the rest came out to ensure that we'd all have a -hot- dog to eat at the same time. She also brought us a free serving of truffle fries towards the middle of our meal! I am highly impressed with Senate. Felt like I was the last person in Cincinnati to finally try SENATE, but it was worth the wait! We tried the Poutine, which was delicious. The braised short rib on top was unbelievably tender and tasty. I wish the fries were a bit crispier to hold up to the sauce, but they were still delicious. I ordered the Mexico City, and I'm glad I did. The dog was HUGE, and the highlight is the guacamole. I've never had guac on a hot dog before, and this was a great first time! The toasted bun is really tasty, too. The service was impeccable, and everyone was very friendly and helpful from the moment we sat down. I'm kind of surprised they don't have a Cincinnati-chili based dog to show off the character of the city, but the options they do have are tremendously unique! We will be back for sure! I couldn't have been happier today with our experience at Senate. We love Summit Park and wanted to enjoy the amazing weather. First the aesthetics are cool. Everything from the dinning area, bar and even the bathrooms are decorated beautifully. The employees are beyond just nice; they are friendly and personable. Let's get down to the food. DELICIOUS! Everything was so decadent. My son ordered the trailer park dog. Somehow he managed to open his mouth wide enough to take a bite. Most people would probably use a fork. The hot dog is beef and has a bold meaty flavor that doesn't compete with the toppings but just accents it. My husband ordered the Korean. Not my fav but he loved it. My youngest daughter is all about the sweets so she jumped at the skillet bread pudding. I was surprised that it wasn't overly sweet. The fresh light whipped cream was the compliment to the dense bread. My oldest daughter orders the goetta superstar. I love goetta!!! This wasn't my favorite dish. The egg, goetta, American cheese and avocado left me missing some crunch and zing. It's still good though. I ordered the eggs Benedict. OMG!!! So amazingly rich. The ham is perfect and I don't usually like ham. This is just the right amount of saltness needed for such a rich meal. The lemon hollandaise sauce isn't overwhelmingly lemon. The gyro left a delectable taste in my mouth. The waiter, Kaitlyn inspired me to be a better person. The hostess, Sydni, brightened my day with a welcoming smile and kind small talk. I'm scared I am going to sound like a wet towel, haha. I thought the hot dogs were just average, imo. The buns are way too thick for my tastes. The meat to bread ratio is way off to me. Just to much bread. I can barely taste the hot dog. And they cut the hot dogs in half. Just wasn't what I was looking for. The fries were cooked perfectly, but they don't salt them when they come out of the fryer (or my order wasn't). Couldn't really taste the duck fat. The service was really good, the staff is nice. I fell in love at their original location. It's so much more than just a "fancy" hot dog place. I would actually say that they have good apps and drinks as more of the highlight. Best two appetizers are the spicy and flavorful mussels Chermoula (get extra bread) and short rib braised Poutine (must add the poached egg). I also enjoy their Trailer Park Dog and they always have funny daily hot dog specials created by the kitchen that are good. The quality at the Blue Ash location is good, but for some reason I think the OTR location is just better. I was both excited and nervous for this new location, excited to have senate without the tiny crowded space and wait, but nervous that with more balls in the air that the quality of the restaurants would decline, but no chance of that happening,both locations are still great! The poutine is where it's at. It's the best you'll ever have. And yes, I'm including anything you could possibly ever come across in Canada, eh. Thick cut, crispy duck fat fries topped with cheese curds, delicious gravy, and short rib. It's heaven on a plate, just get it. The Magnum PI is easily one of the best cocktails that can be consumed in Cincinnati. I know, the ingredients seem weird, I get it. But Yelp is about trust and I'm asking you to trust me. Everything on the menu is good, I can promise you that. Bring a few people with you and order several items to share. It's the only way to go. Now I know what most people are thinking about an additional location: it isn't going to be as good. The quality probably suffers, right? NO! Great beer selection, great atmosphere and great service. The hotdogs were no better than a decent hotdog stand, especially since they were cut in half to "warm the inside better". In my opinion, that was terrible plan. The hotdog was not as flavorful and had no real snap when biting into it. Creative toppings helped, but the hotdog itself was missing the flavor and slightly dry. The duck fat fries tasted no different than the regular my kids had, aside from some herbs. I would skip this and get something you can't make at home, unless you just want a beer, some atmosphere and an app. read more

However, you get a lot of lobster like the size of the tail and I do not mind as it does not come with the shell. We called ahead on a Wednesday evening with a party of 15. We arrived around 7:30 only one other table in Restraunt but they sat us at separate tables they couldn't be bothered to turn two tables. I have a severe allergies I explain to the server who then spoke with the kitchen and the manager on duty. It turns out the sauce they put on top had peppers my throat swelled and my eye swelled from reaction. The server was good she was prompt and courteous. Just very disappointed they didn't prepare for our group. Also I fear the kitchen not knowing how there food is prepared. Gourmet hot dogs with some fancy fixins are the signature, however alternate options are plentiful. Before exploring too far, do try one (or more) of the hot dog options. Being a fan of goat cheese I went with a little drama, fries and an ale - recommend. They are finicky with their fixins - can remove caramelized onions, but cannot add raw (an attempted swap, but no go). Atmosphere is modern and relaxing with a great indoor/outdoor space overlooking Summit Park. We will be back. read more

Visiting from out of town, wanted to try this since I saw it when I took my son the park there a few months ago. The online menu looked good. I saw a steak on the menu online that I wanted. I got there, and it wasn't on the menu in the restaurant :( No worries, though -- they had brunch going, and I'm not about to pass up some Eggs Benedict. Food came, and it was beautiful. But it looked better than it tasted, overall. Breakfast potatoes tasted funny. I don't know if they were just overcooked or if the oil is different, but I'm not a fan. My son got french fries with his food, and those tasted weird, too. The Benedict, though, was OK. The hollandaise was nice, but also had a slightly odd flavor. The eggs were poached to perfection. The ham was AMAZING; probably the best ham I've ever had. Also liked the English muffin a lot. It was fluffy and moist, not dry like the store brands. The atmosphere was lovely, and the service was friendly and prompt. Might try it again sometime. read more

I'm so glad Senate has a second location in Blue Ash. The restaurant has plenty of seating and parking is not an issue. Now let's talk food. I took my cousin to Senate for his first visit. We started with the poutine which was the best thing we ate. The poutine was delicious with the base of duck fat fries, cheese curds and short ribs. I got the lobster but as I don't like the hot dogs. It seems the piece of lobster has gotten smaller. I recommend they change the size of the bun as it swallows the lobster and gives the impression you're not getting much. My cousin had the Croque Madame hotdog with ham, bechamel sauce and poached egg. He didn't like the taste of the actual beef hot dog. First dinner visit on a lovely summer's weeknight to this fun casual eatery just a few minutes from our home. Husband does not eat hot dogs so it took awhile to convince him to try it! In the absence of a thick burger on the Blue Ash location's menu, he went for the sweet potato falafel tacos and really liked them. I went with my beloved mussels with extra bread. Wow, they were delIcious with tasty "soup" for soaking and eating the good garlic bread. I give a four-star rating only because the nice server was admittedly clueless about beer so I had to go over to the very helpful bartender in order to decide which beer I wanted. Beautiful setting at Blue Ash Summit Park! There is indoor and outdoor seating and bar. The atmosphere is comfortable and the service very good. We tried the mussels and the sauce was fantastic although some of the mussels were a bit chewy. Maybe they needed to be steamed a little bit longer. Their specialty is their hot dogs and we chose the Chicago Style Dog and it was very good and in the tradition of it's name. We also opted for the truffle fries which were very crisp with a hint of garlic. Next time when visiting Blue Ash we would love to try additional food items since it's a diverse and interesting menu. In addition, they have an extensive list of mostly Ohio based beers and enough to satisfy the most discerning of beer connoisseur. read more

I came to Senate because I was told that it is the place to go if you like to eat hot dogs. I picked a Korean style hot dog because I wanted something substantial and substantial I got. The hot dog came with a very generous amount of short rib, some kimchi and Korean style pickles. I also got caramelized onions for a small extra charge. Needless to say, the hot dog was humangous. It could easily serve two people. I felt $11.00 price tag was pretty reasonable considering the ingredients and the mere size of the hot dog. My meal was good and I was so full, I didn't eat anything for the next twenty four hours. It is a good thing that the Senate restaurant is located in the Summit park, so I could walk off some of meal. read more
