It had been about a year since I had Sendo and I was getting a serious craving so I decided to stop by and pick up some simple California rolls and Gyoza. A lot had changed over the past year. The inside was completely different. Re-modeled and looked nicer. I placed my order to go and was told it be 40 minutes. I was a little shocked (and slightly annoyed because they didn't seem that busy.) There were only 2 other people dining in and eating already so I was a little taken aback. I said it was fine though, the order was paid and I went to grab a coffee at Tim Horton's to pass the time. I returned to the restaurant and sat down while I waited for my food to be ready. Some minor observations; there were two younger people working along side the sushi chef. One of them a young man looked very dazed and confused. Everyone in general was very quiet. No communication what so ever. I miss the older gentleman who used to work there who had a very lively bubbly personality and always greeted you so warmly talking to you while you waited. And the wait was never that long. I'm not sure I'll return. The premium California roll seemed to be missing from my tray and after waiting as long as I did for something real simple; Sushi Star though a bit more far is really good and their staff always seem really lively and more personable. read more

Came here on a work trip hoping to be treated to a great bowl of ramen. Soup base and noodles were fine but the pork chashu was awful. Under cooked so the pork and fat was tough and not fall apart like it should be. I asked for a different topping perhaps tofu but was told I'd have to pay for the chashu and the tofu. I tried to explain it was basically inedible but I still paid full price. Service was really poor once food came and I had to walk up to the kitchen just to get attention. Won't be coming back. read more

Sendo Sushi - Bon Voyage The sushi place at the top of the hill, and then some is well worth the drive. Its got the classic sushi decor its got the traditional japanese skills behind the bar, its small but they are the real deal. If you go there, prepare for the best sushi you have had but also prepare to wait a few minutes its never dead and there are always orders in. College Heights loves take out sushi! Also its so good the seven eleven has a deal next door going if you need it faster, fresh every day these guys rock! Value, for perfection.. its got the value score 10/10 read more

In my attempt to reassess all the sushi places in Prince George, I've returned to Sendo (feeling I should quote Gandalf). In my old review, I remember thinking it was cute. Because it was. It holds the distinction of being the furthest sushi bar to any other in town, sitting almost to the city limits, a great location for people in College Heights, not so much for everyone else. I entered and was greeted by a waiter so young, he was still drenched in afterbirth. I remembered mentioning the prices were a little high in my last review, but perhaps I was wrong in that assessment. Either that or they changed their menu since last time; I just don't see it being that expensive now. Or maybe I reviewed Sendo immediacy following a vacation where I reviewed the top restaurants in London. Bias-much? Now, Sendo has in its favor it follows up two rather depressing reviews of its competition. First of all, Sendo is a sushi place, and sushi is all that they serve. They don't call themselves a sushi place but gain a reputation for serving awesome noodles; it's all about the sushi. And Sendo may be the only one left with an actual sushi bar, a staple of classic Japanese cuisine and one I sorely miss. I think Sendo and So Good maybe be the only ones left with bars. Since I took my netbook with me (yes, I still own that hunk of crap) I sat at a table. If Sendo gains the honor of being my regular sushi place, then the bar is where I'd go. And I'm sure I'd attempt to befriend the chef and use said friendship to glean free sushi from time to time...not that I have done that before (cough). The decor hasn't changed since last time, still chaotic, worn, ripped, and a little clumsy. I wouldn't have it any other way. Seriously, I had no problem with the décor then and I still don't now. I love the fact it has a drive-through window. I wonder how much Superstore sushi has cut into their business. All of this really depends on the quality of their fish and rice. I ordered the assorted sushi combo and added an additional spicy tuna roll. If I was really hungry, I'd have tested their tempura and miso as well, but today, it's all about the sushi, as the last two places have failed this vital component. I won't say "simple" component, as sushi is actually incredibly difficult to get right. Proper itamae spend years just making rice until it becomes second nature. Perhaps the chef left to get a refresher because I typed this review at the table, and at--scrolling up--460 words, I was still waiting to see the proof of Sendo's quality. I don't mind waiting generally, and I'm also a relatively fast typist despite still pecking with my index and middle fingers (I've also removed words since my initial draft--it was actually 700 words at this point). However, at this point, I ordered tea and it still had yet to be delivered. Twenty minutes in, I finally got my tea...and not in a paper cup. Thank you. A traditional cup and a KETTLE, why do I feel like I'm being spoiled? Shouldn't this be standard for all sushi restaurants? Still waiting... Who here watches Hannibal? Finally, the spicy tuna roll arrives. On a wooden serving board, even better. The fish...was cut...properly. It was good--I've had better but not recently. The assorted sushi truly was assorted, with roe, scallops, tuna and egg. And it was all good with the notable depressing setback of the cucumber roll, the most basic roll to make and receive. I know it's what you get with assorted sushi, but heed warning that if you want something different to mention it. I think I'm finally seeing what few people are claiming, that perseverance and a little Sun Tzu philosophy has allowed Sendo to rise into the upper echelon of quality Japanese restaurants in town. A little lost are you? Well Sun Zu had a famous quote, "If you sit by the river long enough, you will see the body of your enemy float by." In honesty, I'm not sure the quote is his, but in this case, it refers to the unfortunate drop in quality of every other place in town, elevating Sendo as the recommended location of sushi. Yes, I have to take back points for its confusing and crowed decor but this is really a situation where one must read the review to fully understand why one must visit here. Sendo has stuck to its roots and waited for everyone else to get worse, and they have. Sendo hasn't done much to improve their image, but at least they haven't gone downhill...and right now, that can be considered praise. Sendo is my favourite choice for Sushi in Prince George. My family and I may go other places more frequently, but this is where we go for special occassions. It is a small family-based operation, and very popular so service can be somewhat slow, its true, but the sushi really is fabulous; fresh and well prepared. The noodles (ramen) are also very good. the noodle salad is a treat. It also needs to be said that Sendo are GREAT supporters of our community and that makes them extra special. The dining area is small and bathroom access is not as convenient as it might be especially with younger kids, but the food is super and, at least for me, its quality makes up for that. read more

Sendo is one of those restaurants that you find, love it with all your heart, but hesitate to tell all your friends and family for fear that words will get out and it will become too popular. Haha! In the few times I have been, the food has been consistently delicious. I have expanded my ordering a bit to include both cooked and raw/roll items. I even really like the "extra stuff" that comes with a combo meal, such as the salad (zesty, zipping dressing), and the carrots, or the freshly grated wasabi (you can see the fibres, unlike the powered stuff). Tried and true: - Tonkasu Bento (my family and I prefer chicken over pork - but both really good). - Karage Bento (not your average fried chicken) - Zesty BC roll (love the little slices of lemon in it) - Tempura Bento (really light batter on the prawns) - Miso ramen (my mom enjoyed this, but found the soup base too salty to do a bottoms up - well, that's authentic I tell you!) - Chirashi don (admittedly a bit more $ than I usually spend on a lunch, but beautifully presented and taste fresh, fresh, fresh! I especially love the scallops - oh so yum!!!) - Chopped scallop roll (not a specialty here, but I think the best quality of the raw ingredients in town) CON: - Service is so. damn. slow. I can't highlight this enough - you must not enter the restaurant with a hungry belly or your dining experience will be poor. Haha. The last time we went I made sure everyone had some starch (in the form of boring boiled potatoes) before leaving the house because I knew the wait will most likely be 45min long. Sure enough, the conversations with friends carried us through, but too bad for the couple that came after us who were told that they will have to wait 2hrs. It is crazy stuff but the food totally makes up for the lost time, which is why I continue to go back... Do expect LONG waits. And umm...go check out Art Knapps while you wait - we did that once and "only" waited for 20 min... Sendo really is a gem in PG! Go try it! read more

Quite possibly the best and most authentic sushi available in PG. The food here is great, and the atmosphere is quite japanese. Make a note that they have specials posted on the wall inside that are often better deals (and more interesting) than what they have on the menu. read more

I grew up on a few ranches in b.c. I've always been a steak and potatoes kind of guy. I've had friends tell me to try sushi but I've always been really hesitant. So I thought while I was staying so close I'd give this a try. I asked the chef to make me some sushi as I had no idea what to order. He put several different things in front of me. My favourite place to eat sushi. I am always satisfied after eating their sushi. There is a bit of a wait to get your order, but it is definitely well worth it. Only time I had better sushi was when I was in Vancouver. Also, I tagged dessert because I love their green tea ice cream, and I am not a fan of ice cream. read more

Answer the phone...... You have to physically go in to make your order they will not answer the phone. They have an amazing ramen soup but to actually get it you have to go in order it, then pick it up in an hour. I've been going to sendo since 2009 and finally had enough. I love this family run Japanese restaurant. The good is always fresh and flavourful. The prices are really reasonable. Seating is very limited with 2 small tables and a few bar stools so not very practical for our family of 5. Take out service is slow so order a couple of hours ahead. The family that runs this restaurant is super kind and friendly so slow service is very forgiveable. read more

Worth the wait. If you're in a rush i recommend calling ahead. Or get it to go. Delish every time. Our go to place for sushi.
