I met up with 3 other ladies for an after work walk. We chose Seneca Park because they have lighting around the loop - although in a few spots it is quite dark and we clicked on our phone flashlight to see ahead. What they have: a loop that is a bit over 1 mile, tennis courts, playground, huge grassy field for sports practice, baseball field, benches, parking around the loop, and bathrooms. It's a great spot to be with family, friends, or alone. For working out, reading, and relaxing. Not too crowded to enjoy it but you're definitely not alone. read more

Sometimes you just want a nice, safe, relatively level place to run. This 1.2 mile loop offers that and more. The loop is free of vehicles, but even with the foot traffic of the more crowded times, there's plenty of space to run free. Besides, playing frogger as you dodge into the grass to avoid strollers (or folks traveling in pairs with dogs who stretch across the entire width of the sidewalk) is just a little bonus for your quads. Being a public park, the path is open 24/7. Right in the heart of St. Matthews, it's exactly what you'd expect. It's clean. It's safe. There's a small playground, tennis courts, scattered park benches. Two water fountains, one at each end of the loop -- complete with dog bowls. Nice tall trees offering shade on the loop's exterior, with wide open fields of well maintained lawn and decently maintained kickball/softball fields. Oh.. and horse stables literally across the street. ‍ 4 stars only because of the bathroom situation. If I was reviewing the Seneca Park bathroom alone, I'd give 1 star -- only because they exist, with a roof, lighting and indoor plumbing. The men's bathroom is always disgusting. Not well kept by any means. I don't think the soap dispensers have ever had soap when I visited. Once I did find a small bar of soap (like from a hotel). What if you want to wash your hands? -- spoiler alert: YOU SHOULD WANT TO WASH YOUR HANDS!! There's a 50/50 chance of having hand sanitizer or finding a toilet full of TP/BM and standing water that won't flush. Don't be surprised if there's a puddle around the toilet or a little surprise on the seat. Hep-A & C-Diff, anyone? Gross, I know. I also noticed there are no locks on the stalls. What if you want some privacy? It's hard to blame the Park when this is clearly the doing of people being gross, inconsiderate humans. Gentleman-- like, why?! Do better! In summary, Seneca Park is the perfect place to meet up for a workout or coffee w/ a friend. Definitely use the bathroom before you visit -- or at-least carry hand sanitizer and maybe keep some emergency toilet paper in your car. read more

This is where the candy bar Seneckers came from. Mars Bars too. Born in this park. True story. This is an excellent Park in L-ville out in the suburbs and it has a little bit of everything. You can drive into it, you can park, it has lots of space, lots of greenery, it smells really nice, and it has Wildlife. Pretty much everything that you could hope for in a Park, so the best one that I've been to in Louisville anyway 0 but I haven't been to all of them by any means. read more

I like this park. It's not my favorite but it has some obvious benefits. Cherokee will always be my favorite but if you go on long run/walks... Seneca is a welcomed connector between the Highlands and St Matthews. Trying to walk down Lexington Road in either direction causes frustration because of the sidewalk situation. You'll be walking on one side of the road only to hit a sidewalk dead end. Cross the road to have more sidewalk? Sure. You can do that but eventually, you'll reach another sidewalk dead end. Cherokee is also my favorite place to run. You can moan and groan about all the hills but when it comes down to it... it's great training. It makes all the flat spots in town a cake walk or should I say... a cake run? Seneca is flat and that's a nice change of pace if you're not feeling the hills. Seneca always feels more like a park to me. People are always concentrated and scattered all around the park. To me, Seneca always seems more full of people than Cherokee but that's likely because Cherokee is so much bigger and spread out. You should visit this park but don't expect to be blown away by it. I wish the golf courses around Cherokee and Seneca would go ahead and close up shop and give all that land to the parks. That'll never happen though but it would be way cooler if it did. read more

As far as Louisville parks go, Seneca Park seems to receive the most upkeep, despite garnering less hype than some of its bigger siblings. The result is a pleasant, family-friendly park with a solid lineup of amenities. The playground, tennis courts and walking loop are well-maintained and aesthetically pleasing; I have a soft spot for the little "scenic route" between the courts. Litter is kept under pretty tight control, even during the months where the city isn't frantically trying to clean up its act for Derby (before resting on its laurels for the remainder of the year). Seneca also has a reputation for being a viable evening option, so the tennis courts are available until pretty late and the surrounding chunk of the walking loop has plenty of lighting. Unfortunately, the bathrooms are abysmal and parking can be a tedious affair, but this is still one of Louisville's best parks despite those issues. Unless you're specifically looking to hike, I would readily go against the grain and recommend this over neighboring Cherokee Park. read more

Louisville has spoiled me with it's magical park system. I don't know what I would do if I ever had to move.... Seneca is great. It is vast and offers several hiking trails. There are also tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields, a playground, a golf course, and a mostly flat 1.2 mile paved loop. And as long as you know where you're going....Seneca and Cherokee are connected! I'm going to be training here quite a bit for the upcoming Triple Crown of running and I think the loop might become my favorite place to run. read more

If you dislike Seneca Park, then you HATE MURRIKA. It's clean. It has many activities, like softball, kickball, tennis, basketball, soccer, jogging, dog walking, biking, ultimate frisbee... I even saw a hippy doing some Tai Chi. Whatever floats your boat, really. It's a good park. Many parks around Louisville aren't very busy. I've never been to Seneca Park, in the summer, when it wasn't really busy. And it's neat. I love seeing people out being active and staying fit. The location of Seneca Park is fantastic, too. One direction, you have St Matthews and Frankfort Avenue. The other, you have Taylorsville Road and Cherokee Park. I'm envious of the people that live in the surrounding neighborhoods. Seneca Park is great! Most of my experience with this park is biking or riding my scooter through, but there's plenty more to do if you're planning to spend some time in this area. There's a golf course, baseball and soccer fields, basketball and volleyball courts, trails for biking, walking, and jogging, picnic tables, a playground, and more. Another beautiful day, another park to explore. I've always viewed Seneca as one of the more popular parks in Louisville, especially since it is right in between Bardstown Rd and St. Matthews. As soon as we pulled up, I could definitely tell that this was true! The park had multiple sports going on, including a horse show happening next door. It seems like a lot goes on here. Recreational sports, runners on the track, and those looking to come out and just relax. They have different fields you can use for baseball, football, etc., a small building for bathrooms, even Steel City Pops had a stand set up! The parking situation was a little crazy, The ENTIRE road all around the walking track was full, and the grass area nearby was used for Valet parking (pretty sure for the horse show) but you didn't realize this until driving into it, where a small sign hides. So it took quite a bit just to find a spot. Otherwise everything else about Seneca is very pleasant. Clean, lots of water fountains and hiking trails also. There's a little bit for everyone! read more

Despite my surprise seeing high school sports teams still running together in tight packs and without masks during this 2020 pandemic (oh, I remember my own days running cross country at Seneca!), this is a great park with a lot of space to get outdoors, meet a friend (with some distance), and go for a long walk, run, or what have you. There was plenty of parking around the circle, including electric vehicle charging stations by the bathrooms. When I visited over the summer, I met a friend who used this option for her Prius. We walked toward the trails and stayed under shady tree canopies most of the time, which gave us a good break from not only the summer sun, but also from the exercising crowds around the circle. Essentially, it's an inviting park and that I visit on almost every trip back to Louisville. read more

Seneca Park has 7 Poké stops and is a breeding ground for various Pokémon. Including but not limited to: Pinser, Eevee, Magnemite, Seel, and Sentret, among others. The population varies depending on the season, time of day, or whim of the development team. Before catching Pokémon was a thing, I utilized the walking path. It's relatively flat and in a circle, 1 lap = 1.2 miles. The playground has swing set on the smaller side but it has a few slides and it's located near the bathroom. Two things that rated high when my son was still a child. (If children weren't playing, I would get a pic of the playground but I am not comfortable posting pictures of children I don't know) The park host various sports ball things but that doesn't interest me so I can't provide comment on the quality of the spaces designated to: field hockey, soccer, baseball, tennis, or basketball. read more

OK, I'm giving it 5 stars for a park because as parks go, this is 4-stars which is pretty darn good. All the amenities plus a few extras, Seneca allows you to get back to nature without having to leave the Ville. Now, the other star is based on company and if I could rate it higher, I would, but we're on a 5-star system and billions and billions of stars would not fit on the page, so let's just say it's a really, really BIG 5th star, or first star, whichever order you prefer, I'm not particularly OCD. Just a nice day all around, a day to watch the world go by and to let it all go for a moment. Not a bad day at all. Seriously. A very, very good day. So, go to a park, Seneca's a good choice, leave the rest of the world behind, have a friend tag along, or bring a book if need be, and just enjoy looking for 4-leaf clovers, or watching the robins eat worms, or whatever other flight suits your fancy. read more

One of the things I miss when not in Louisville is the outdoor space, and Seneca Park is one place I daydream about all too frequently. When I am there, I take full advantage of the walking loop, and often find myself taking 2 or 3 trips around even if I only intended to do one. When the weather is nice, the park is also a gathering place for people having picnics, playing baseball and tennis, or for kids at the playground. It's not uncommon for an ice cream truck to be circling in the summer, which brings a touch of nostalgia to my walk around the loop. I've never ventured further through the parkway to pass the golf course or take advantage of the horse trails, but maybe this will be the summer I do either or both of those things! I have visited Seneca Park regularly at all times of year and always enjoy my time there. It evokes a happiness and nostalgia that radiates as happiness no matter where else I go throughout the day. read more

This place is really nice but the parking situation isn't optimal. It's a well kept park and I haven't seen vagrants loitering about. I have always seen some sort of game going on and it's a space with many uses. It's also a great place to jog when you're just starting because it's pretty flat and not as hilly as other parks. Louisville has so many great parks and while this isn't the best one there is more than enough space for everyone to play, enjoy nature, and park badly. read more

Hands down, my favorite park in Louisville. Why? 1. Size. It's manageable to take a walk around the entire perimeter (trying to do that around Cherokee Park can be exhausting, especially with little dogs). 2. Flat! Iroquois Park and Cherokee Park, again, get your act together. Nobody wants to be running 10 miles up and down hills. 3. This one is recent for me: the playground! My 15-month old loves the swings and slides and they are so well-maintained here. 4. Proximity to my house: duh. I can walk here and still walk a loop around and THEN come home. I grew up about a mile and a half from here. One of the cleanest and safest parks in Louisville. The parking is awesome. So many free spots all over the place. Even a blind man could park a car here. There are tennis courts, basketball courts and fields for both baseball and soccer. A great place for kids. As they have swings, slides and all the stuff that kids enjoy. read more

Whether you want to get out of the gym and run the loop or enjoy a sunny day on the trails, Seneca gives you that option and is closer than you think, I couldn't have asked for a better afternoon trip. It was unexpectedly pleasant to take a moment in what is essentially the middle of Louisville to get off the beathen path and enjoy spring budding, birds singing and fish jumping (albeit, not successfully as far as I could tell). This park is special, and seems to illicit those special moments when you just stop for a second to watch the clouds converge and the clover to grow. Tip: It's easy and tempting to get lost in it. So watch your path and leave a breadcrumb trail back out. read more

I have been to Cherokee plenty, but on this day, I finally went to check out Seneca. There is so much green space here. Trails sports fields, playground. We explored all over, going off the trails as some points but at the end it was easy to get back to the parking area, which there was plenty of parking. Since I now weirdly enjoy time outside, I am sure I will be back here once the weather gets a little nicer. read more

Louisville has such wonderful parks. I love running, hiking and exploring them all. Seneca is beautiful and conveniently located between the Highlands and Saint Matthews. Seneca Park has a great field in the middle of a 1.2 running/walking track. Often people are there playing soccer, football, Rugby, etc. There is also a basketball court, tennis courts and a play ground.The golf course is nice too. Very family friendly. Seneca is a really really big park, but I can't say I've ever been on the golf course or the full cross country course. I mostly stick to the 1.2 mile walking path (unless it is kickball season). The walking trail is well-lit, so it is good for morning or evening workouts when the days start getting shorter. But I swear there is always at least one light out - usually where the paved trail is most uneven. So, um, watch your step. But if you get away in nature and be somewhere quite this deff isn't the place to go ! Good running track that stretches a good 1.25 miles ( ish??) Well it is a good walking trail. The fields are bit unkept. I like how their is dog bowl at every water fountain. That said most of the fountains don't work. The walking path is a bit bumping. It is cool that there a the lights on the fields for the night time. read more

Seneca Park is one of Louisville's vast number of parks and it does not disappoint. It's well maintained and isn't far from additional parks, which makes the park system in Louisville quite nice. I like running in Seneca because the people are friendly and everyone seems to actually know where to run and bike so that you do not get run over. The loop around the park seems to be about a mile, which allows for a good walk or run. I also like that they have all kinds of activities going on (basketball, biking, frisbee, soccer, etc). It's not the type of park I would come to for a picnic as it is a bit louder than some of the others like Tom Sawyer or Cherokee Park, but it really is a nice one to have in Louisville. read more

I used to take my tae kwon do class out to train in the infield at the Seneca Park track off Cannons Lane and no one would blink or bother us in the least. That's the kind of place it is, where a myriad of activities co-exist equally and you can people watch in an easy to get along atmosphere.
