I haven't been to McNeely in a while, probably since I was a kid but we have recently started going again and it's definitely been enhanced! There are plenty of spots for fishing but some of them you will need to take a short hike down a gravel road. If you bring a wagon make sure it has bigger wheels but probably best to carry everything to make it easier. There is a fishing dock as well that's pretty big and most definitely is shareable with a few groups. The hiking trail that extends around to the dam is a fun walk since it goes in and out of wooded covering. Makes it great for sunny days as well. The playground is nice and maybe small to moderate size. There are BBQ stands to use and picnic tables. There are bathrooms but not very quick to get to from most parts of the park so keep that in mind. Great place to kayak as well! Great views and since the lake is narrow it makes it feel more like a river to go through. Super fun place! Glad to see them doing more work on it Only criticism is that there is lots of trash and even though it's the patrons fault, the park could do a better job at cleaning it up. Watch your little ones so they don't pick up pokey fish hooks or broken bottles. read more

Tiny park located off cedar creek road. You pull into a the parking lot and the road way is gated off. So you park to the immediate left. The park itself features a small playground, a full court basketball court and lots of soccer fields. If you follow the concrete path near the parking lot towards the patio area and soccer fields you can follow that path around a short trail that eventually takes you through a gravel paved wooded area that runs along side the soccer fields. It leads back out to the road where it circles back to the blocked off road at the entrance. It's a giant circle. But it's a peaceful and easy trail. Overall solid little park and it's pretty close to my home. So I'll come up here and let the girls play on the playground. It's very rarely crowded. Most of the crowd heads to the larger McNeely Lake Park about 3 miles down the road as it has several massive playgrounds. So a lot of time when we don't want to deal with bit crowds I'll make the short trip here and let the girls run wild and blow off energy. read more

This park has a Beautiful 27 hole golf course known as Quail Chase Bordering lake Mc Neely. A well maintained facility with bent grass fairways along with well manicured greens and white sand bunkers. You must play this course. Price wise this is worth every penny. Call ahead for tee times Highly recommend Green fees include golf cart. Tee times are a must. read more

If you live near or around the Hillview area, this is one of the best parks to visit. It seems to attract a lot of fishers, but it also has some great walking trails, and is easily accessible. For the most part, the park is very clean; Minus the graffiti found around the place. And sadly from the couple times I've visited within a span of a few years, that graffiti has not been removed. It is pretty much only on the big boulders though, the rest of the area you'll find to be really nice. There are parking lots all over, so you won't have any issues with that. This is a nice park to visit; It's easy to spend at least an hour here just exploring. read more

Love the walking trails to walk with my two dogs and or my husband in good weather! I will always enjoy coming to this park because it's close to my house and there's a lot for us to be able to do and feel safe while doing it! My only thing that I would love to change about it is to have a fenced in dog area in lieu of that we use the tennis courts as a place for the dogs to just run around off leash. And we always make sure we clean up after them so nobody is upset with us being in there. I'll be back like I always am I really enjoy this park and then getting to stop at the barrel on the way back home! read more

Located off Cooper Chapel rd. This side of Louisville sits this beautiful park with a lake. You can fish, bring the kids to the playground and walk the trail to the beautiful waterfall that sits at the end of the lake. The appearance overall of the park is good, other than some full trash cans and some muddy trails. My advice if you come here to walk the trail, don't wear your good shoes you may get some mud on them, it's not too muddy but, it does have some spots. My favorite part of the lake is the waterfall. It is quite the hike but well worth it. Minus the graffiti it is a beautiful site, I like to come here on a day like this (not too hot, not too cold) just right for some me time and feel at peace listening to the waterfall. I would have to say I was impressed with McNeely lake park today. I had read that they only had about a two mile hike there and I knew it was rather flat. But that is right up my husband's alley, 2 to 3 miles, not hilly and places to sit. Today he was in his glory. We parked at the playground, which was very nice, plenty of parking in various spots in the park by the way. From there we headed to the path that runs along the lake. Path goes from concrete to gravel ro dirt but all easy to traverse. We headed to the right from the playground and walked about a mile to end up at the dam. There are multiple secluded fishing spots just off the path, views of the lake, lush greenery and lots of bird wildlife. It was pretty crowded with lots of walkers fishermen and families, all friendly. The dam at the end of the trail is well kept, from there you have to turn around and head back. The lake is impressive, longer than I would have imagined with many off shoots. At the other end of the trail there is a nice swing and a boat dock. I was amazed at the number of small boats and kayaks on the water. Also near the playground is a Korean War memorial that is well kept and touching. I was very surprised at just how much I enjoyed the hike along the lake and all the amenities of the park. read more

Fun park, but a little creepy(creepy paragraph near the bottom). I didn't know anything about this park as it's a small drive. It's still in Louisville, but on the southern tip of the county. I didn't know a lot about this park. Kathy insisted I check it out so we went. We see eye-to-eye on 99.9% of things when it comes to being outdoors! You immediately see the lake when you arrive. There are plenty of fishing spots, benches, picnic tables, and places to watch the ducks/swans. It's beautiful! The day was planned for hiking. We walked along the lake until we reached the end. At the end there are trails that lead you to who knows where. We made a loop out of the trails, but there were what seemed like endless trails in all directions. We didn't have time on this day, but I'd love to go back there and follow a few of them. There aren't any official maps for the trails at this park. It seems like an easy place for kids to party without getting caught. With that being said, the trash was slim. Although I'll go back to explore those countless trails, I doubt I'll frequent this park. I also think this park would be perfect for a picnic by the lake. When coming back and walking over the rocks... I noticed something out of the corner of my eye... I look... "Oh! Hey little guy!" There was a snake hanging out on a log(see picture). If you do go hiking here... be careful. Lots of brush for snakes to hide in or curl up around. You should always be careful though no matter where you are. I mentioned creepy because when walking along the trails, it felt odd. We only saw two other people while out there, but I felt like I was being watched. Maybe it's my imagination, but out of all the forests I've been in... I've never felt that feeling. It was an uneasy feeling to say the least. First things first - this park kind of has 2 locations. And this can be confusing. There is McNeely Lake Park - South, which is where the soccer fields, basketball court and playground are located. Then there is the park area which is actually down by the lake. To make things even more confusing, I'm pretty sure you can't drive from one to the other. It's about a 10 minute drive to get from the south park to the lake. The South portion looks as though it's being repaired or added on to. Or it's going to be part of the Louisville Loop. There were a few signs but nothing that gave any indication as to when these projects were going to be completed or what they even were. We walked along what may be the path and there was just a large open field that was torn up and muddy. Plus there were old light fixtures along the path. It sort of made the area look like a large dump. After walking a circular path, we ended up back at our vehicles and left to find the entrance near the lake. After about a 10 minute drive, we had found our location. If using GPS, it's better to use Quail Chase golf course as the entrance to the park is right past the golf course. Once arriving at the lake, we walked along a path that followed the shore line. There was a lot of trash left by people who had been fishing, which was disappointing because there were a plenty of trash canse. From our walk, the park seemed to be well-maintained but the park has a weird vibe to it. There is a weird cave kind of thing and a lot of feral cats. I haven't driven through the entire park though so maybe it was just the area we were in. Overall, I'm just not a fan of this park. I've been several times and I just don't feel safe - even when I'm with a group of people. I would rather drive a bit further to the Parklands (where I feel safe walking or biking alone) than frequent the trails of McNeely Lake. read more

A great park! The trails are easy to follow. The scenery is absolutely lovely! It's a bit of ways out of the way, but I would say that it's wort the drive. My friend lives nearby and suggested it for our hike, and I'm so glad it happened! Worth checking out! read more

Nice little park. Really cool looking lake. Love the little cat colony by the statue. Lots of birds, gooses, and ducks around. A boat dock. Some odd floating platform with bridges but they work. Overall decent little walk around park. read more

Been fishing here for years and never caught any bass. I'm a semi-professional fisherman. Only thing I can catch is the garbage of crappie, panfish, and catfisherman who have never even heard of a garbage can. Overfishing is very severe. You have some people who like to take more than their share of fish, the limit of panfish is 25 but that doesn't apply to some people so they go and take 100. A basket of fish should only have the bottom covered. Message for Louisvillians, don't try fishing if you can't follow two simple rules, clean up after yourself, and limit your catch. read more

I can see the potential this park has to be beautiful but it's hard to imagine with the road (I'm assuming to the Lake) being cut off due to construction. The only parts of the park that appear to be accessible currently are the playground and soccer field areas. I'm unsure if the walking path is unobstructed because I did not follow it. It's a pretty park if you can see past the plastic orange fences. I think some of what is accessible is in need of maintenance and repair such as the basketball court. This park was much bigger than expected. It had a nice area for kids to play and some ball fields. It's a good place to walk with lots of trails around the lake. The trails range from a paved path to walking through the woods with lots of little paths down to the lakeshore. I will say for what it's worth it did have a strange feeling to it. If you read Brad G's review he is right on and oddly while walking my wife said several times I feel like we are being watched. I still think this is a decent park with a fair amount of things to do but it does seem strange that someone else had the feeling of being watched but I'm sure it's just our imaginations and i don't think it would prevent me from going back. read more

My favorite park in or near Louisville, McNeely Lake is just big enough for a nice walk and just small enough where it's not so well-known that everyone goes there. A nice lake and a little walking trail makes for a very picturesque afternoon enjoying nature, or you can just camp out along the hillside and search for 4-leaf clovers, you may find one or two. read more

The views and scenery are beautiful. I love fishing and kayaking here, it's not too busy and I find so much peace and serenity here. There is a playground for kids, a nice little boardwalk, plenty if parking, and areas to fish. read more

This was my first exploration here and I am already looking forward to going back. I haven't done too much hiking recently so the path laid out here was pretty easy. The park is beautiful around the lake, and I assume it is even better in the spring when everything is green! because of the recent rainfall and melted snow, the water in the creek was too high to cross it and continue around the lake so our hike was shorter than we would have liked, but it just means the next time I go back, I'll be able to see a new part of the park. read more

The water and air were so clear and refreshing and the scenery was so lovely, a nice break from the hustle and bustle of city life. Everything was absolutely gorgeous here! Not only was it an amazing place, the people there were positively lovely. But what made the experience memorable was meeting this dashing soldier by the name of James Gatz. My god was he the funniest, most handsome, and most interesting person I have ever met. If you want to meet the "one", come here and you may get lucky.
