I booked my appointment in December for January. When I arrived I was greeted by the receptionist who was very friendly and got me checked in quickly. There wasn't anyone else in the waiting room and I was taken back to the patient area a couple minutes after checking in. I got weight and my height taken, then the nurse took me into an exam room. She took my vitals and was quick and friendly. I didn't catch her name but she was super sweet. Alyssa came in about five minutes later and spent a good half hour talking with me and getting to know me. She listened to my extensive history, explained things to me that nobody else ever had, and then was able to finally give me a prescription for a medication I've been trying to get from my previous doctor for six months. She explained how insurance doesn't always cover it but she will help me with options if they don't. She was incredibly helpful and friendly and was very realistic about the way our healthcare system is. The office was easy to locate inside a larger medical building. Parking is limited but I found a spot easily enough. I do wish they had an online patient portal, but maybe someday when they are a bigger practice they will. I am so happy with my experience here and hope to remain a patient for a long time.

I have…read moreseveral life threatening illnesses, & am caught in the midst of new doctors and/or many attitude/negative changes to practices. Dr. D not only blamed me for my illnesses, that are inherited & very serious, he asked me where my neuropathy pain was. I briefly pointed to the 2 spots in my legs, then Dr. told me to "quit complaining". I came to him per my insurance company's suggestion because of the severity of my medical issues at 68 years old, also to ask him for a scan on my stomach/rectal area that had malignancy taken out about 2 years ago, that is painful 24/7 & has bled intermittently after the malignancy was taken out. He refused any scans, because he himself didn't diagnose it, also he hadn't read any of the 62 pages of medical records I brought in at 1st visit last week, from Lane County for the last 19 years. I asked him to please, per my insurance company's Case Management's request, send a referral to Palliative Care that I do qualify for. He refused that, too. My impression is that he wanted to start from scratch to make his own evaluation. If I wasn't so sick with internal bleeding issues, consistent stomach pains, alleged IBS/Crohns Disease (suggested by a specialist/provider last year), I would have been agreeable to Dr. D's requests, though partially, because I've had severe problems with stools (constipation), requiring hospitalization, since I was 8 years old, also possibly inherited. Dr. D said that my 2.5 years of low dose pain meds for Fibromyalgia, Neuropathy, Osteoarthritis, etc.,etc., is the cause of my constipation. Again, he didn't read a thing about my past medical history the 19 years here in OR + other state I lived. This has been going on for 29 years. I don't mean only bathroom difficulties/issues, but severe & life threatening medical issues. I was put on SSDI in '97. To top this, he didn't continue my pain meds, so I'm cut off cold turkey. I felt as if I had to pull teeth for my heart meds, also he didn't prescribe me my Pro-Air asthma/COPD inhaler. His medical assistant also neglected to log in my very high systolic blood pressure reading because she intimated that "I have too many issues to put in necessary info". This girl had a bad attitude from the start, maybe due to having a bad day. Please note: I was refused any/all referrals, whether to Digestive or pain management. Dr. D said that he's an Internist & doesn't refer, also he said he doesn't specialize in Digestive issues (that's why I needed the referrals). I fired Dr. "D" the next day & have to wait a couple weeks to see a new Primary Care Dr. Time is of essence. I am scared. I hurt. The pain everywhere is unbearable, & I just want help from a doctor/specialist. I don't want to die like this. Staff in reception....awesome! Kim was so helpful, & the 2 other ladies went out of their way to help me log in my pages full of info on their tablet. I was very impressed, also grateful for them! I've been instructed by our state Senator, to contact Senior/Disabled Advocacy, because our senator is not happy with this issue & others from me/other patients. He wants to be apprised of what the State Advocacy says & does as far as my grievances, & I am to keep contact with the Senator. This, he said, is unacceptable! I will call/contact State Advocacy tomorrow, Monday. I wished it had worked out with Dr. "D".

Calling the Riverbend office for a sleep consultation, I encountered the following problems:…read more1) OLS's scheduler (Tara) gave me the info that all their providers were within network of my specific health plan. 2) I called my health plan to verify. They said they needed the name of the specific doctor in order to verify he/she was within network. 3) I called OLS back. The grumpy scheduler said she could not tell me which doctor I'd be seeing, because they had five. OLS could not email me the names of their sleep doctors. She had to dictate the doctors last names over the phone and omitted their first names. The names were not easy to spell or for me to record and she seemed impatient with me. 4) I then called my insurance company who said one doctor was not in network on my plan and two other names were not verifiable as I had not been given the doctors first names. This scheduler must make these appointments and give insurance information all day long, but still hadn't the wits or desire to provide complete information (i.e. the complete doctors' names), so I had to call her back yet again. 5) Talking with their office manager was not productive. She only responded that this was my insurance company's fault! She did not address OLS' antiquated and illogical scheduling procedure, or her staff members' irritability. OLS's scheduling process required me to make six phone calls just to get an appointment! Given that OLS provided wrong information about my insurance coverage, was brusque and irritable with me on the phone when spelling the doctors' names, and that they can't email out (which might impact future communications with them), I decided to find another sleep clinic instead. Communicating with this office was not conducive to building trust in OLS as a medical provider.

We searched for different options, and are so happy that we landed at the Willamette Valley Cancer Center. First, the front desk including Shirley, Jada, and others is so welcoming, kind, gracious and compassionate. Shirley went out of her way to get us into see Dr. Wells as soon as possible. Jada welcomes each patient, and whoever is with them with a big smile, enthusiastic greeting, and constant warmth and kindness. This process is so daunting, but right from the time you walk in the door- you feel you are in the best of hands. Dr. Wells, his nurses and staff have been wonderful. Dr. Wells treats my dad each time like he is the most important patient in the world. He listens, and explains things thoroughly in a language that my father and our family can understand. When my dad had to go to radiation therapy, the staff there was outstanding. Robby made my dad as comfortable as possible for each and every treatment. Taking an interest in his personal life, and hearing him brag about his grandkids on each visit. Once the immunotherapy treatment began, they continued to treat my father with great grace and kindness. Denise has been super each time. She is kind and patient, without fail. If you are reading this, I'm very sorry. I know you are in a tough spot, and I hope you can have the same success my father is having. When he had his visit they told him that the cancer had spread to his lungs, which was NOT true. He then received world class cancer treatment out of state and that's where we learned this horrible truth. The cancer itself (skin cancer) could have been treated but the damage on his lungs made it too difficult for him to fight and he did not survive. He went to WVC for help. He trusted them and felt comfortable letting them treat him. And in return they were careless and killed an otherwise very healthy and active man. It was shocking and incredibly painful. WVC, there is nothing to discuss. Please do not ask me to reach out to you. We are devastated.

I make my appointment and all seems well. Until I got a voicemail from the office telling me that since I'd "missed" my first appointment Dr. Saxman thought it best I FIND ANOTHER PHYSICIAN. Seriously? For their mistake? And no reminder call or postcard or? I'm kind of furious but am comforted by the fact that I have fantastic insurance and he's losing a LOT of money long term and clearly he's a jerk so I'm better off. Avoid this guy. (And he can't be that popular as he had a new patient appointment available within a week so I'm pretty sure I'm not missing out)
