It was never about the money, as we offered to pay more for better care and it was declined. All we wanted was a safe and caring place for my Mom and unfortunately the standard at Harbor was not that. The pictures I posted tell only 60% of what she endured, and "context " enough to express our experience; not to mention twice her laying on the floor for hours because staff was not able to lift her (or call for help) until my brother or I arrived. The house that he lives in is very intimate and he gets great care 24 hours a day. The house is very bright and warm too. Staff is always keeping me informed on how Dad is doing and even ask how I am doing!Since I'm here all the time, I also watch how well everyone is taken care of and their needs met with individualized attention. Before we transitioned to Newport Senior Living, we had inconsistent care, unreliable caregivers, and unacceptable communication and coordination. And the cost was out of control. Upon transitioning to Newport Senior Living, all these concerns were resolved. The facility is unbelievable clean, with a separate bedroom and bathroom for each resident. The "family room" is warm, organized and inviting. The staff is caring and professional. They provide individual attention to each resident. The term resident isn't actually correct, as the residents and staff became like family members. The food is excellent. They provide consistent care and have a back-up plan in case a staff member can't work. The grounds are beautiful and allow for activities, like gardening. Each week, chair exercise sessions are held. They plan special birthday parties and activities throughout the week and holidays. From a professional perspective, all-important qualities include professionalism, reliability, integrity, communication skills and being a team player. The Newport Senior Living staff provides this. From a personal perspective, when selecting a home or facility for a family member, the qualities listed above are important, but just as significant are interpersonal skills. My grandma moved…read morein on Tuesday to an apartment with no cable TV, despite having the TV ready to go the weekend before her move in. I've visited or called every day to see if they've gotten her cable setup and they appear to be dragging their feet. There is a huge lack of communication between management, maintenance, and front desk staff that delays tasks and doesn't communicate progress with residents or their families. The other day a front desk staff members started clipping her nails while answering my questions with vague answers and "I'll leave a note" for staff who seems to always leave before the end of the day. I can't seem to get straight answers from anyone and I rarely get calls or texts back when I'm promised any. Overall, I'm frustrated with the move in and hope to see some changes in this facility soon. I'll be looking at alternative options if things don't change soon. EDIT: Katy from CSL gave me a call and we had a great chat about some of the frustrations I had regarding the delayed cable installation and communication issues. She also was able to clarify some of my questions and ease my biggest concerns/worries. She is such a sweet and caring woman, and I'm glad we were able to talk. I am very hopeful that things will go more smoothly now that some of the initial move-in bumps have been handled.
