Not the prettiest rose garden, maybe being in the high desert it's hard to keep things from dying from the heat and from drying out. Walking around, we took pics and admired the different kinds of roses and other flowers here. The roses looked a bit tired and some of them were definitely struggling, but the garden as a whole is pretty nice, well kept, and thoughtfully landscaped. All in all, a pleasant visit and worthwhile little walk through this municipal rose garden in Reno.

As much as I love all of the green space, it would be nice to have a few more cement walkways because my socks and shoes were both soaking wet by the end of my visit. There is also a fountain and a gazebo and some benches to sit on. This would be a great quiet spot to catch up with a friend or maybe enjoy a first date. Personally, it made for a perfect stroll with my dog to enjoy the flowers and the sweet air. I'm so glad they added this space.

Most recently we visited Toytopia. This exhibit offers the chance to explore a hands-on history of toys from the past and into the future. My kids loved the oversized robotic claw, reminiscent of an amped up arcade machine. It was a blast trying to get the individually articulating fingers to close around the ball in order to lift it into the basket for the big reward. We also enjoyed the oversized battleship game. So fun to play and we spent 20-30 min there. Mr Potato Head was old school fun too. We made a competition out of it to see who could make the wackiest example. I think I won... or maybe my kids let me win. But the favorite had to be the mini arcade they had setup with some of the best old school cabinets. Donkey Kong, DK Jr., Dig Dug and so many more are all here as part of the exhibit and you could spend a long time here without realizing it! Oh and there's even a Zoltar fortune teller too! When you're done at toytopia you can go learn the history of Wilbur D May on the other side of the museum. Had a great time at the Fleischmann Planetarium. The planetarium part itself was not necessarily…read morethe biggest or most comfortable one we've been in, but the show we saw, narrated by Diego Luna, about the elemental makeup of the universe, was eye-opening. The real highlight of the place, though, was the museum-quality sci-fi movie and TV show displays they had throughout the building. It was like geek heaven. You could tell it was assembled with a combination of passion for the subject matter and a desire to share as much as possible with visitors. There were tons of obscure and iconic Star Wars-and Star Trek-related items in display cabinets everywhere, as well as a lot of interesting information about science-related human accomplishments through time. It's too much to describe . . . I highly recommend a visit if you're at all interested in anything sci-fi-related. It was fascinating for me; I had a really good time taking in as much as I could learning about meteorites, learning about the T.A.R.D.I.S. from Dr. Who, posing next to the R2-D2, etc. etc. It was great. Parking in the West Stadium Parking Complex was super easy; you just park on the third floor (which is the garage-entrance floor off the main street) and the Planetarium is practically connected right to the garage via a very small walkway/bridge right off the third floor.

Fluttering, buzzing and humming of flying butterflies and bugs - do you want to hear or see that??…read more How about having the soft tickle of tiny little legs on your arms and hands?? Well that's just some of the really cool things you will get to see, observe and touch at Nevada Bugs & Butterflies!! Come out to the butterfly and science center so you can meet Tessie the Tortoise as she slowly comes out of her house to chomp on some flowers and leaves. Go inside the Butterfly House to have all them whimsically fly around you as if playing a game of tag as you get lost in the beauty of their magical wings and colors. Don't forget to look among the foliage you just may see a caterpillar or too before they cocoon and turn into one of these winged beauties. Take a stroll on the interactive science center path to learn about the indigenous plants of our area and Nevada. Then finish with the wonderful volunteers to learn all kinds of amazing things about butterflies and see up close and personal some different bugs such as: caterpillars, crickets, hissing cockroaches or a centipede with all of it's legs to walk on your hand. That's just some of the amazing things you will find at FREE outdoor facility here at the Nevada Bugs & Butterflies. We were so glad that we found this magical place and that they graciously excepted donations if you so desired (they have donation boxes set up on the property). This was a stop for us prior to our visit to Pacific Grove, CA for the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary and found out from one of the founders (Cynthia) that was on site that day that they take part of tagging Monarch Butterflies for the migration each year (be sure to check out their website so you can be apart of that - http://nevadabugs.org/). She shared with us her research on the butterflies, what got her and husband to put this beautiful sanctuary together and what was in store for them in the future. We look forward to seeing them expand to something bigger and that more people will get out and enjoy the beauty of Nevada Bugs & Butterflies. We also found out that they welcome small groups and have had homeschool kids come for private tours - NOW THAT'S AWESOME! We had an amazing experience with the volunteers making sure to come out while we were enjoying the outdoor facilities to answer any questions we had and share with us information about the habitat, butterflies, tortoises and we really enjoyed our time there. I would say make the trek out, it's not as far as you think (heck we live in Carson City so what's your excuse). Pack up the kids , or in our case GET IN THE CAR and GO find out about some awesome, beautiful things that are right here in Nevada - Bugs & Butterflies!! Happy Yelping Everyone!!

The animals are adorable and so friendly. it was such a joy getting to feed, pet, and hang out with them. The staff was fantastic, answering all our questions and making sure everyone had a great experience. The farm itself is beautiful, clean, and perfect for taking photos and making memories with friends. It was the perfect mix of fun, laughter, and pure cuteness overload. We can't wait to go back for another visit definitely a must-try for anyone looking for a unique and memorable outing! Do wish there were more pumpkins but we were late in the season this year!

I'm not into real old cars that look like they are from a gangster movie or Mary Poppins. But I…read morefound this museum well worthwhile especially considering the modest $16 entry fee in today's inflated price world. While most of the cars are in the 1900-1940 year range there's enough other variety to keep it from feeling monotonous (like a Porsche race car, NASCAR cars, jet car, a handful of interesting motorcycles, etc.) Imagining the man hours that went into building some of these intricate older cars is mind boggling. What I found most interesting was reading the couple of paragraphs on most of the plaques next to the cars. Just looking at the cars without reading the story behind them is a big mistake here. To go slowly through the entire place and read everything is probably a half day (4-hour) endeavor. So plan to devote at the absolute minimum 2 hours to your visit. The only downside is there isn't a cafe to have something to eat or drink. Hosting private events seems to be the focus here when it comes to food and beverage service. Still a must visit for anyone interested in cars or not.

Can't wait for someone to buy this place and renovate. As one of the last standing drive-in's in the country you'd think management would at least TRY to make it an enjoyable experience but our first time was our last time. I remember the first art walk just a few years ago. Some artists scattered throughout the Midtown…read morearea that you could walk thru in the 3-4 hour time period. Now the event has really grown. Starting at 4 pm you won't get every artist in at every stop. The area has expanded from almost Mt Rose Street to Living Stones on Virginia and around the corner onto California Street. Artists that cover the entire spectrum- painters that use all the different mediums, fashion art, musicians and even food art. You can wander in and out of many shops and check out all the displays and talk to each artist. Hang out in sections roped off to enjoy live music and DJ's and grab a bite from one of the many food trucks or a local restaurant. Our 4 mile hike was quite the adventure on this beautiful sunny afternoon that continues into the cool Reno evening. We saw as much as possible, and found time for a bite of dinner. A wonderful way to spend some time with great friends and check out the local art scene.
