Meadowcrest immediately felt right. The building needs some updates, but the real gem is the staff. The therapy staff is outstanding! They go above and beyond for their patients. The facility is clean and doesn't smell, other than an occasional and brief "shit" smell which is unavoidable. The beds are nice with small assistance rails on the sides with buttons to raise and lower the head and feet. The Staff is mostly very nice. We had a Care Meeting 2 days after her arrival and I was able to meet everyone. The Physical Therapists I have met (Patty and Chris) are good and I feel mom is making fairly good progress. Having a friendly staff that do not talk "down" to mom is extremely important and the primary reason for the 4 stars. The biggest downside so far is the food. There is a lot of starch and not much vegetables or protein. Yesterday for lunch she had about a 2 ounce "pork loin" with "BBQ sauce" that looked like ketchup. Buttered noodles, green peas, white bread and margarine, with mandarin orange slices for dessert. I consider peas to be a starch, not a vegetable. She had peas and potatoes the day before with about a 4 ounce chicken breast. This should not meet the standards for a nutritious meal. Leafy greens and cruciferous veggies are so important to good health! In the evenings, they wheel around a snack cart with cages of chips/Cheetos/Doritos. Just what people need-junk food! If folks want junk, let their kids bring it to them. Don't serve it! Another downside is the rooms are so small, there is not enough room to have a comfortable chair to sit in, so mom sits in a wheelchair all day. There is only one dresser for 2 beds so each person gets 2 small drawers. Not enough for a week's worth of clothes and laundry is only done once per week. Lastly, the long-term care rooms are identical to the skilled nursing so you can't bring in something from home to make it a little more cozy. Also the common areas-dining room and lounges are pretty plain, not very nicely decorated. Why 4 stars after these complaints? Because I strongly believe the friendliness and attitude of the staff are way more important. Second would be food quality.

My surgery was no walk in the park and I knew my recovery wouldn't be either. However, I really have to sing the praises of this office. I have been to physical therapy several times in my life. I am that person that has broken something on every limb, or that limb period so I have seen my fair share of Therapists who go through the motions with you but are really just overworked, overbooked, understaffed, disinterested, or all the above. The staff at ESSMC have been rather exceptional. There definitely were times that I was being a real pill while attending therapy. But the staff would talk to me and keep me looking toward the positive. I especially like Marielle and John. They are both dedicated PT's that really work with you, and push you to go past your comfort zones. The technicians in this office are also very helpful and personable. If you need to visit a physical therapist and are in the area (they have several offices in the Eastern areas of Pittsburgh) I would highly recommend this establishment. I have come a LONG way since starting here and really have to thank them, along with my dearly patient and loving husband, for all the support and encouragement.

Let me explain. Andrew and his staff were excellent in caring for my needs. The problem was the price tag that came along with this care. The billing department associated with this practice leaves much to be desired. It started in with being told I had a zero copay, which by itself shame on me for not checking. However, I never received a bill until after my therapy was completed. 20 visits later totaling over fifteen hundred dollars!!! I must add I needed 10 additional treatments because the head PT misplaced my medication for my ionophoresis therapy-upon my initial visit. so my doctor prescribed 10 more treatments. I had never received a bill so I figured I would continue to go. Anyways once I got my first bill, post treatment, fifteen hundred dollars later, I called upset with the sticker shock. Of course blamed my insurance and slow payments and coordination of billing process but needless to say felt taken advantage. Received a voicemail from head PT with not even a true apology!!! Needless to say won't be back because of and be careful as a new patient for what your signing on for financially!!!
