I had been searching for a doctor for two years that would tell me why I was losing weight and feeling so horrible. I spent most of 2018 feeling ill, lacking energy and losing hope. Dr. Dezfoli wasn't the usual doctor that I've been seeing that only had 5 to 10 minutes to chat with me. He even took time before our first visit to review my past two years of lab reports, medical history and other doctors comments. I was extremely impressed because Dr. Dezfoli really cared about me and took over an hour talking to me and going over my reports. I found out more in that one hour about all my other lab reports, ct scans, endoscopy, and other tests from Dr. Dezfoli. In our first meeting Dr. Dezfoli asked me if I would be available to take two more tests, one test was to eliminate one diagnosis, but he felt almost positive that the other test would come up positive. I agreed to take the tests and within less than a week of first seeing Dr. Dezfoli and he NAILED IT! No other doctor had a clue to test me for what Dr. Dezfoli had tested me for. I had Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO). My primary doctor even commented that Dr. Dezfoli was an excellent doctor for diagnosing me with SIBO. My primary doctor mentioned that he would have never thought of testing me for SIBO and the other 6 doctors I consulted with never even mention a SIBO testing either. I visited Dr. Dezfoli today and from my lowest weight of 68 lbs., I weighed in at almost 85 lbs. In the 3-4 months after my first visit with Dr. Dezfoli I have not only gained weight, I have my energy back, my liver I found out today is normal again, and I am living life again thanks to Dr. Dezfoli. I still have 20 pounds more to gain, but Dr. Dezfoli has put together a nutritional diet, a plan and an exercise program for me to even feel better. If you are looking for a doctor who really cares about making sure you live your life to the fullest, I recommend that you make an appointment to see him. I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2017, and struggled with confusion, fear, failed treatment plans and multiple unhelpful, unknowledgable doctors before I found Dr. Dezfoli. Not only is Dr. Dezfoli extremely knowledgeable and thorough as a doctor in treating chronic illness, he has also been just a generally supportive human being throughout a very difficult time for me. Dr. Dezfoli has personally harassed my insurance company when we needed a swift approval for my medication, he has called me from his own personal cell phone outside of work hours when I needed care or reassurance, and he ALWAYS has as much time as I need during appointments for questions, concerns, and general emotional support. In my experience, really good doctors don't have great bedside manner, but that is generally overlooked because of their knowledge and capability. Well, Dr. Dezfoli is the whole package. He knows what he's doing, and he's confident in his abilities (so much so that he has referred me to other gastroenterologists for a second opinion without me asking for one just to ensure I felt comfortable with a new treatment plan he proposed), and he's an empathetic, emotionally intelligent human being. Dr. Dezfoli is hands down the BEST GI specialist in Los Angeles. This is the first review I have ever written, it's my way to "thank" Dr. Seper Dezfoli for his excellent care and his brilliance as a physician, not just a great GI specialist. For the past years I suffered with shortness of breath with little exertion that had been attributed to a genetic heart condition, however when I needed an endoscopy with Dr. Dezfoli he insisted I see a pulmonologist beforehand because he felt something was missed in my diagnosis. He was correct, I have some asthma and one spray before exercise solves my problem and no worries about my heart! I brought my 77-year-old mother back in May 2020 to see Dr Dezfoli because of concerning symptoms, and he was very patient with her in talking her through her combo endoscopy/colonoscopy. She has a redundant colon with lots of twists and turns, and Dr Dezfoli was super careful with her. When there was a part of her colon that he felt concerned about the safety of him continuing the colonoscopy, he decided it was too risky. He then made some calls and got her in with another doctor that very same day to get an imagining alternative for that part of her colon. That was a huge help to my mom as that meant she did not have to repeat the colon prep for another day. I also went to Dr Dezfoli for my own colonoscopy last month, and everything went smoothly.
