I love this location! My friend from down South will come up here because this location is that good. It does close earlier than the regular shopping mall on the weekdays. I love that you can drive up and park right where you want to go. There is little fuss in getting a parking spot here. There are spots that are a tight squeeze but there are a ton of other options. The people here are super nice and helpful. I love working with Brooke and Travis. They both are super helpful. Brooke has the best recommendations and her work is amazing! I love the Kat Von D line, the eyeliner is the best. They carry such grant lines here that this is a must go to place for beauty cosmetics. I love the Fresh line for lip balm/lipstick. The VIB program is nice for the most part. They offer discounts throughout the year and then you get points and collect on some sample items. Some of the samples aren't as good as others but you can always save them up for other options. I really like the Birthday gift though! Always something great! This is my favorite place to shop for cosmetics I would go here before I went anywhere else. I would definitely recommend this place to whomever is looking for new makeup solutions. read more

Pros: close to my home in the arboretum in a cute little shopping area with other cute stores the girls that work there are super helpful and gracious at letting me get samples to try when I went in looking for an eye cream to deflate dark circles (a weeks supply to try!) I left the store with samples only and there was no judgement. Cons: it can get crowded sometimes I have a hard time getting a good layout of the products in store. Racking up that huge $$$ at check out If you're scared of the big ticket items, at the check out line they often have sample sized products that I always can't help but want to snag up as they're just so neat, the tinier price tag doesn't hurt as bad either when you're taking out that credit card! read more

Daniel is a magician! Just have to give props to Daniel at this location. I got a horrible bruise under and alongside my eye a couple days before I was supposed to get onstage and sing. GREAT TIMING since that meant the bruise would probably be about the darkest it would get the day of my performance. The week before my wedding my skin went crazy and broke out all over especially on my forehead. She knew exactly how to calm down my skin, fix redness, and create great coverage. I only touched up my makeup once with a dab of powder. My wedding was August 5th and photos were outdoors so it was sooo hot but my makeup stayed perfect despite the heat and the sweating. Whenever I go in Sephora, I feel like I'm the only one who thought the party invitation said "Casual". Everyone else has gobs of makeup on, spiffy black outfits and heels. There is one item I will dress up for: Diorshow Maximizer. It lengthens and thickens. Eyelashes, of course. Apply it before your mascara for Liz Taylor lashes. I was born with stubby short eyelashes but this stuff is groovy. My eyelashes don't look like Eva Longoria's but they are thicker and longer with this product! It's the bees' knees. The odor of perfume hit me pretty hard when I came in the door. This was my first time in a makeup store; that plus the fragrance and all the shiny stuff sort of disoriented me at first. But then I saw what I had come for. Bare Minerals. I didn't know what colors I would need or how I was supposed to apply the powders, but a very nice young lady color matched me and carefully explained and demonstrated the application process. She let me look at the makeup in a variety of lights, including outdoors, so I could see exactly what kind of coverage I was getting. I ended up going with a $60 starter kit. I usually buy makeup at Walgreens, so for me that was a lot of money, but the product seems very high quality and it's supposed to last quite a while. I was a little worried that the color I got would be too light, or that the product might make me break out; however, I found out that Sephora has a satisfaction guarantee. So, even if you've opened and used a product, you can return it. Nice! Also to the store's credit, I walked in with wet hair, no makeup, wearing the clothes I wore to clean the house, and they treated me really well anyway. I'm sure I didn't look like someone who was going to make a big purchase, but a director greeted me promptly, and the sales girl spent a good deal of time helping me. As a newly transplanted New Yorker, I am used to getting great customer service at Sephora. Today was my third time in and the same results befell me. I don't know if it's the large amount of melanin in my skin, my Mohawk, or simply because they all suck! I held off writing a review since I thought past incidents may have been isolated. On this- my last trip- to Sephora, I stood in the perfume area smelling scents to find a new one and received no help at all. One associate asked how I was doing then promptly walked away. After about 15 minutes, a fellow darker toned girl came over to see if I needed something. I told her I wanted some samples to which she said the perfume lady was out but she would help me when I was ready. I was ready two minutes later and went looking for her only to be redirected to the perfume expert on staff I was previously informed "was on break". It was the same woman who said hello and walked away! So I told her I needed some samples and she rolled her eyes, snatched the tester strips from my hand and began to angrily fill the samples. Although I may not have seemed like a person who could afford the perfume at Sephora- what with my ripped jeans and too much melanin and all- as a Beauty Insider (their rewards program) this is where I spend my moolah. Just to make sure her attitude wasn't just in my head, I tried to engage her by asking her questions on the notes in the perfume and comparisons to what I already have. She mumbled some words and bolted as soon as they were filled. She took no interest in me nor my money. So I took my samples and left. Once I find the right one for me, I will purchase from Ulta or online only! I will never again step foot into the Sephora on Great Hills. Oh, and btw- I live right up the block from there and would still rather wait for UPS to get my makeup fix. Or Ulta. read more

Sephora is like Disneyland for girly women. They have all the best lines of makeup, skincare, and perfume. The salespeople are beyond helpful, and not pushy. They'll help you apply stuff, one saleslady searched the store to find a blush that matched my favorite discontinued color (we found one from Chanel). It is my preferred makeup shopping experience, far better than Ulta or Nordstrom. Oh, and they'll make you a sample of almost anything in the store that you want to try. The downside - I can't walk out of there without spending at least $50. read more

Also, make sure to show up in your yoga pants and t-shirt as that will get you extra-special service from employees, regardless of your ability to spend. Head on over to Ulta, you can get the same products (and many more) without the vapid, Dallas-girl, you-clearly-don't-wear-enough-makeup service. It might be a chain but Ulta is far more suited to the typical Austinite than Sephora. Note to management: Your employees might be dumb, but your customers aren't. if you want us to not open the drawers when you are out of stock of something, lock the the frickin things. Don't make your visibly dumb employees put on their patronizing makeup face, get snotty, and weave tales about people slipping and falling on open drawers. If Willy Wonka created makeup instead of candy, it would look like Sephora. There are so many fun products there that it is difficult to walk out of the store without going over your budget. As the rest of the Arboretum seems to move to the Domain, it is nice that Sephora has stayed in this location (at least so far). I absolutely LOVE Sephora!! But this is the worst one I've ever been to :( I'm a Beauty Insider and makeup novice. My first visit to this Sephora was a consultation for a bridesmaid look. My friend and I came in, was told by a male salesperson that no one could help us at the time (it was not crowded at all). He scheduled us with another salesperson for two hours later and we agreed. I came by later that day and waited 30 min while he frantically looked for someone to help us. In the end he ended up doing it himself! Even worse, he gave me a look that wasn't what I requested! Shu Umera eyelash curler- check Nars Orgasm blush- check Lancome Definicils Mascara- check Nars lipgloss- check Stilla Kitten Eyeshadow-check The staples that work for everyone, and a lot more, can be found in their beautiful packaging, clearly marked with their prices on the shelf. No more snooty make-up counter lady (who can smell my weakness for packaging when I'm still in the parking lot), no more wondering how much it costs, no more going to 10 different stores to round up all the things you need. It's all right here in one place where no one will bug you if you don't want them to. In addition to make up, Sephora has an amazing selection of skin care as well carrying everything from Dr. Hauschka to Koerres and beyond. If you have questions, the staff has the knowledge to answer them, but won't push you or make you feel stupid for not using the latest botanical cleanser (which still might have the dreaded laureth/laurel sulfite/sulfates). Personally, I prefer this location as I don't have to step foot in the mall to get there and I can use it as an excuse as to why I need to be up that far north and fit in a trip to Asia Market Cafe as well. And don't think that you're going to miss out on free samples, Sephora is stocked, and all you need to do is ask. Nothing beats free samples! read more

I have an intriguing relationship with this place...I absolutely love it, although I have no reason to. I hardly ever wear more than just foundation. I've always been intimidated by these stores, in every single mall that I've passed one, but my glorious friend Chewy led me to the light! We initially went into the Barton Creek location, which prompted a visit to this location the day I left for my vacation to Florida. I was on a mission to find an eyebrow pencil to somewhat hide a scar on my eyebrow. I was instantly drawn to the Urban Decay line, as I had seen advertisements in Cosmo. After perusing for a few minutes, I was approached by an employee, who showed me a line by "the eyebrow queen," whom I don't remember the name. She then referred me to one of the make up specialists, who took quite some time to approach me. The store wasn't too incredibly busy, but there were a few customers. The specialist proved helpful, in showing me how to apply and make my eyebrows match. She also showed me a couple of different product lines and what makes a good eyebrow pencil vs. a not-so-great one. I ended up not purchasing anything, I was too overwhelmed by the options. I will probably try again another time. This store has different product lines than the Barton Creek store, so be prepared to migrate if you can't find the line that you were looking for. Chewy showed me some stuff that I loved and intended on purchasing here, but they didn't have it. It is quite the variety of stuff, though...enough to confuse the hell out of me, but sometimes that's not too difficult. They also have lots and lots of different types of fragrances and skin care products, for both men and women. The service people can be pushy, but if you go in with a mission, it's very helpful. Things to note about this one: 1) It's smaller than the ones you might be used to if you're from Houston or Dallas - the reason for my one star off. 2) They do NOT carry SK-II and they might be missing a lot of the other higher-end brands as well for skin care, probably because of a smaller market. 3) They're very helpful if you want to help match your foundation color and will even give you samples to try at home in different lighting. It is an alright cosmetics store. Of course, it all depends on what you are comparing it to. For instance, MAC at the Domain has top-class cosmetics AND consistently knowledgeable staff. I have been to this Sephora location multiple times and, whenever I ask staff for help in selecting products, they always seem to flounder and not really know what angle to approach my request from. I don't know, maybe it's me and I have a peculiar face or something (doubtful, however; human beings only have so many variations of skin/face shape/tone, etc.). This store is good if you know EXACTLY what you are looking for. Associates will be VERY helpful in pointing you in the right direction of where that EXACT product is. Deviate from that, however, and you are very likely to end up with a rainbow of products and colors on your face. read more

30 Day Return Notice BEWARE! There is nothing ON the Receipt that says you have 30 days to return. You have to go to their Website. OK, partly "my bad" for not wasting extra time going to the Website to see their Return Policy when most stores have it ON their Receipt. With the holidays, not living in that area, and at that time Working, they were closed the few times I was able to get there. Today 01/10, went there. They would not honor the Return like I paid cuz the 30 days was YESTERDAY! ONE DAY! again...Holidays, and working, etc played a part. It was an $8.00 item!! Not $50 or $100 etc for goodness sakes! This place stinks! I mean it smells like an explosion at a perfume factory! It almost keeps me from entering every time. But I have to go because no other store carries everything from eyelash curlers to Dirt by Jonathan. But I know when I leave, unless I can hold my breath for the entire visit, I will have a headache. Plus, they use too much packaging! I bought an atomizer and they proceeded to wrap it in glitter paper and stuff more glitter paper on top of that. I asked them to remove it and save a tree. Though I live in LA, I accidentally threw out a gift card that was purchased at this location recently and thought I was out of luck. Sephora customer service advised me to talk directly to someone at the store and, long story short, Amanda went above and beyond the call of duty to help me out! She provided really fantastic customer service and was helpful, charming, and joyful through the whole experience. If I have one complaint about this place, it's that I can't get them to stop trying to help me. Seriously, every time I walk in at least 4 people, at various times, will ask if they can help me. It's better than being ignored, though, for sure. They carry my favorite brands: Tarte, Bite, Smashbox, Benefit, Bare Escentual, Laura Mercier, Makeup For Ever, Two Faced, Korres, Stila, PTR, Dr. Brandt! I could spend all day there. Remember, always save your receipt when you buy skin care products because if you don't like the results, even 1 to 2 months later, they always take it back. Can't get better than that when you are trying something from PTR or Dr. Brandt - some of those can really add up. A small tip...resist the urge to accept a basket from the ever helpful salespeople. If you are like me and you take a basket, you will run up a $500 bill in no time. I try to limit myself to what I can hold in my hands so I don't get too carried away on any one trip. So, in my world of sparkly eyeshadows and glitter bombed cheeks (jk, ain't nobody got time for glitter bombed cheeks, that's just a bad look for any non-carnival day) I have amassed quite an arsenal of makeup. I'll just openly 'fess up. I'm kind of a makeup snob. Hold up there judgment eyes, let me explain myself. I am the first person to advertise a great drugstore dupe for a product to anyone who asks. HOWEVER at the end of the day a lot of times you do get what you pay for. There are just some things you cannot skimp out on (hello lipstick!!!!). With that said, I find myself buying a lot of high end make up between Saks, Nordstroms, and Sephora. The thing is Sephora carries brands like Urban Decay and Too Faced for more fun products. They also carry Make Up For Ever which is excellent for crazy out-there eyeshadow colors. On a recent venture to Sephora I learned a new trick of contouring. Yes, you heard me right, I learned a NEW trick. If you have any grasp of the sheer quantity of makeup I own, you should know that I am the queen of contouring products. I literally collect and hoard highlighters and especially limited edition ones (one for use, one for pretties). Now to learn something new for highlighting? That's a big deal! There was a regional manager for Make Up For Ever in store and she was showing the artists unique tricks. My artist was contouring my nose because well, I have a very low nose bridge, and she said that if we used matte white eyeshadow the contour would POP. Man, she was right. I've never been so stunned. She added that I could add a regular shimmery highlighter of my choice over this white eyeshadow if I chose to do so, I chose to do it. This place still rocks. The artists are experienced and really do try to listen to what you say. In addition, like before, they do carry the designer brands that I love. Their parking situation can't be beat but please note that most days they close at 7PM which can be pretty inconvenient. This place is every girl's dream-tons of cosmetics, perfumes, and creams all in one place! They carry all of the cosmetics that you'd find at department stores, such as nars, clinique, lorac, benefit, etc. But, they also carry their own Sephora brand products that are pretty good quality and much more affordable than many of the other brands that they carry. I've been using their pressed powder for the last year or so and really like it. I just noticed that they started carrying nail polish a few months ago-I don't really wear nail polish anymore, but I was definitely tempted to get a couple of bottles. The staff are always more than happy to help you find the right products for you, but they are never pushy about getting you to buy the products there. They also have a really good return policy-they'll happily take products back that you don't like even if you've opened them, like foundation. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVEEE this place! I prefer this Sephora because it's not at a mall, which makes it a lot more convenient for a quick shop. I buy almost all of my makeup here and adore each item I've ever purchased here. I'm a "Beauty Insider" so I get points for each dollar I spend, which allows me to receive really cool testers and freebies! Who doesn't love free stuff!? For my birthday, I received a pack of lip gloss and they were great! None of the weird crease that most lip glosses usually leave - yuck. The staff here is extremely friendly and very, very helpful. They really know their stuff. I went today and they were already wearing their festive santa hats and had their new Holiday makeup items out - exciting!!! I am back in love with Sephora in the Arboretum! I met a friend for lunch in the area and we decided to wander over to Sephora. I've been avoiding this location for more than 2 years because every time I shopped there all I could think about was how I needed to get out of there - quickly. So I was thrilled to discover that they have turned down the music! It was amazing how many more things I found I needed. Went in for two items, left with seven. Sephora carries Clinique's High Impact Mascara, which I love with my lash extensions because it rinses off completely with plain water. (One of the main reasons I shop at Sephora is that I do not love the Clinique counter at the department store.) I also love that this Sephora has a huge selection, just about every brand one could possible need, in addition to the Sephora collection. And if that weren't enough love, on my most recent visit I discovered Sephora's brand of retractable, waterproof eyeliner in 21 colors - this pencil is epic! like sliced bread caliber epic! read more

I love these ladies! Seriously, they are all so helpful, knowledgeable, not pushy and totally fun to work with. I went there today to update my makeup and to take the plunge on getting a "clarisonic mia." Kaylyn did a demonstration for me so that I could get the full effect on how this product worked. She was assumptive in her sale, but in a way that I could appreciate (I held an intense 100% commission sales job for several years so I respect her style!). She was pleasant and helped me learn about the product which I ultimately ended up purchasing. A lady named "Bab's" helped me pick out an everyday summer lipstick. She was so understanding and respectful about my need to only purchase cruelty free products. She went thru the store's binder with me and reviewed every single line that was considered cruelty free or vegan-it was awesome! She ended up introducing me to a new line for my lipstick and I am thrilled with it. Again, she wasn't pushy what-so-ever. I felt like I was chatting with a longtime friend and it was such a fun time. I lastly received help from another lovely lady whose name I believe was Christine? She has a 1 yr old and lived in NY/NJ so we chatted about that as I'm a fellow New Englander from CT. She also was fantastic and helped me pick out a foundation. She was relaxed, friendly, honest, and really talented. She helped me select a foundation that would fit my need and still stay within my moral comfort zone of cruelty free products. They will even call other area stores if they're out of something. I have been an avid Sephora shopper and fan for many years now, and whenever I'm in town, I hit up this location because it's so close to my brother's house. I went in the other day about 7 minutes before closing, not realizing what their hours were and in desperate need of some new concealer, as I'd left home (KY) without mine. Even though it was so close to closing, they put my name down for a consult, and I went in search of the few products that seemed promising online to get a jumpstart. I wish I could remember the name of the woman who helped me, but she was fantastic, didn't rush me, took the time to color match me, clean off and apply new makeup, and suggested other concealers than the ones I'd written down, and then even suggested a foundation to go along with it (which she didn't push on me when we were done). The products were great, and she even had me go to the window to check that the color really matched my skin tone. When all was said and done, I ended up with a great concealer, a sample of the foundation, and the name and color of a setting powder for when I run out next. By the time I left, the rest of the employees were busy cleaning up, and they had to unlock the door to let me out. The woman never made me feel like I was inconveniencing them, and she was the one who offered to take the extra time to help me, though I was planning on just quickly finding a concealer that matched me, paying, and rushing out to leave them to their closing tasks. I'm going to assume in my review that you already know what Sephora is all about. That said, this is the only Sephora store in the Austin area that you should bother with. This store has a much better variety than the one in Barton Creek Mall (or, heaven forbid, inside JC Penney). For example, the Arboretum store carries the entire Josie Maran line, including face, eye, and lip products. The Barton Creek location carries only the argan oil, and only one size at that. If you want a Sephora trip, go to the Arboretum location and do it right. read more

Great store - I love this Sephora location! And not just because they are walking distance for me. It's a very clean and well-maintained store, which is not always the case (*coughs* Barton Square). I can easily spend over an hour wandering around in a bit of a haze, slightly hypnotized by all the pretty colors and attractive packaging. The staff here is generally very friendly, and always willing to make me a sample of whatever overpriced foundation the magazines currently promise will make me look 10 years younger. The best thing about this location is that they allow dogs! They even have a doggie water bowl by the front door for their canine customers. I can walk over with my pup after work and let the staff play with her while I get my girlie-fix on. Good times for 5pm on a Tuesday. read more

Sephora has been my happy place for years and prior to the pandemic and I alwaysdropped way more money than I should have! Today changed every thing. I purchased the same brand of foundation I've worn for 10 years in December. The young women that helped me chose to color match me in the store instead of checking my records for my regular color. I tried it three different times and it never looked good. It was a totally different shade. I was informed I couldn't return it due to being two weeks past the acceptable return date. A store manager called customer service after I insisted, to see if they could override the day but got a solid no. I get that there are rules but after a long career of serving the public I also know rules can be broken. I have been a loyal Sephora clustomer and taken many clients, friends and family to shop there. No more! I can get everything I need online direct from the manufacturer. Girl, bye! read more

I love this Sephora. I am always greeted nicely and someone always offers to help me. I always have help when I'm trying to find something. They were great about helping me to find a foundation that matches and they answered all my skin care questions. Another thing I love about Sephora is that they have always been great about returns and exchanges (even the ones made online). This location is no exception. I have been to some Sephoras that have been a little snooty, frankly, but this one is not like that. I feel comfortable here. Items are well stocked and while it's not the biggest Sephora around, I never have trouble finding what I need. I also love this location. It's very convenient for me! If you're not familiar with the Beauty Insider program, look into it. It is worth your time even if you only go to Sephora a few times a year. It's free. I have been able to try new items this way and things I wouldn't have necessarily tried on my own. read more

Sure there is a standard greeter, but after the front "check point" those other employees around could care! And there are plenty Sephora Uniforms passing me by! Yesterday one woman was even training someone new, and as I looked around to find something in Bobby Brown, not as much as a glance in my direction! Even when I obviously need assistance or attempt to grab someone's attention...I am astounded! Today when I called, and left a message about my product in the early afternoon with no returned call, I am moving on! The wild thing is I will browse, buy what I came in for, find something new even and I am a paying customer that would probably purchase more! Retail ladies, you are missing it with your lack of service. For me, back to Nordstrom's or maybe I will give another store a try! Too bad this was convenient to my home. read more
