My niece and I visited this Sephora last week to smell some fragrances. A nice sales associate directed us to the wall of perfumes and we searched for a particular brand to smell. While we were there another sales associate stopped by to make sure we were doing ok. She also provided suggestions for other things we could smell. I like Sephora but the store is a mess. I understand ppl steal so some items may not be fully stocked but the store is dirty. Half or empty bottles of perfume, make up items dried out, lip/eye pencils dull, messy stations and displays and chaotic checkout areas. Doesn't help that the associates have bad attitudes. I visited here on April 12, I booked a lash appointment online which was easy. When I arrived at the store I was told the representative who was supposed to be putting the lashes on went to break and asked me could I wait 15-20 min. Ok np, I purchased my lash set and went to another store because it was longer than 20 min. When I arrived back, she was ready. The greeting was blah, no sorry for the wait, how is your day etc. She had asked me did I purchase the lashes already and I advised yes and we continued with the appt. Another representative came over and they were talking about how she was supposed to be out of there by now, she always stays after her shift etc. so I'm assuming she didn't want to be there. At the end of the appt she said to the other representative, she already paid for the lashes. She replied yes she did, so I'm assuming she remembered seeing me at the counter when I purchased them. But I guess she second guessed herself lol she said hold on and walkied to ask the others did I purchase them already. I came for a eyebrow pencil. I encountered the makeup technician at the door who was indeed conversation with a customer. I approached her , she looked at me and said what do you need. After telling her she then called out someone's name to come help me and then turned her back to me. A few minutes later a manager walked by. I motioned to her but she told me "I'm a manager" and called to the same person again who reluctantly responded and helped me to find what I needed. Check our process needs a lot of improvement too. I have been going to this Sephora for years because of its location. Service has declined quite a bit. Last few times I went nothing I wanted was in stock and I had to search for an associate to assist me. The associates always seem bothered when I asked for help, and my LAST time there a young girl seemed annoyed that I even approached her with a question. I was also followed by some guy in a black suit checking to see if I was trying to steal something. Very uncomfortable shopping experience. I wish there were a closer Sephora because the staff they currently have need training on customer service. And I have always loved Sephora! Shame. I only come here because it's the nearest Sephora. And even though I can walk here, I sometimes order online. It's not the crowds that keep me away, it's the being swooped on like a mouse who has made the fatal mistake of getting in the visual field of a bird of prey. No, 90% of the time this isn't the swoop of anyone trying to actually help you. It's the swoop of preemptive suspicion: they think you're going to shoplift. Nevermind that I make a big show of stepping into an open area when I want to retrieve my phone, with the list of products I'm seeking, from my bag. Nevermind that I avoid entering the store prior to making purchases elsewhere just so that I don't carry any other shopping bags in with me, but when I must I make sure my bags declare "I have plenty of money" by the brand names emblazoned on them. Nevermind any of that. Now, I enter this Sephora with a laser focus. Let me walk straight to the back where the $80 serum or $40 argan oil or the $30 dollar mascara is, grab it, and get to the register posthaste. Will someone just happen to swoop on me as my hand reaches for the shelf? You bet your ass they will: "DO YOU NEED HELP WITH ANYTHING????" "No, but thank you," I say like an automaton. Occasionally I will slow down at this point and take a ridiculously long time to ponder my purchase just to piss them off. But too often, I'm getting to the register and placing my bag on the counter, opening it wide enough so that the cashier can plainly see that there is nothing there. And if I brought in a shopping bag from a store that contains previous purchases, I'm making a big show of those too. And I'm trying to engage in small talk with the cashier. All to emphasize I have nothing to hide. It doesn't matter if you spend $25 or $250. This Sephora store has made every experience feel like I'm being held for questioning in an episode of Law and Order. It's sad when you have to mentally prepare yourself for this bs. It's been my experience that the people you least suspect are stealing. Say, the old lady who happened to be white I saw steal a Godiva chocolate bar at a Dillards in Vicksburg, MS many, many years ago. Believe it or not, sometimes it's just not the black woman with glasses and the J. Crew bag. Please find a balance between totally ignoring someone and finding them guilty of a pre-crime. First time at this location, and it appears that the poor reviews are spot on. No one is helpful, the staff won't let you use the testers without being disparaging and rude, getting into aisles where staff are chatting with each other is next to impossible, and staff will come look over your shoulder throughout your visit. For example, I was looking up my Sephora cart on my iPhone app to make sure I picked up the item I previously researched - but, this must have been incredibly "suspicious" as I had an employee breathing down my neck the whole time. Of course, no offer to actually help... This location also does not give any samples with purchase. So, there's really no reason to be here. Ordering online is the way to go. I came here for a makeover. I made an appointment via online and everything was great. I had an amazing experience here getting my makeup done. I wanted to get some new make up that would last the heat and pool parties in Las Vegas. The first gentleman took care of doing a minor facial on my face to just make sure all the dirt and everything was off my face and he did a great job. My face felt amazing afterwards and he was very talkative. He made sure I knew every little thing that he was putting on my face and why he was doing it. Then it was time for my makeover. The young lady who did it was very good and so polite. I told her what type of look I was going for and she did it exactly how I wanted it to be done. She also went over step by step what she was using and what brand and how to apply it correctly. Overall, this location was very helpful and everyone was so nice and polite! read more

I went into this store to puchase some NARS cosmetics about a month ago. I had a retail me coupon for sephora. I tried to use it, and the cashier curtly said "we don't take any retail me coupons." What shocked me was she looked peeved that I even asked about it. I think this store is already expensive and a pain to get to since it's inside the mall. I shall not go there again. I like this store because it has the beauty studio and a nail center, some stores have one or the other... When I walked in on my most recent visit I was on a mission for brow corrector..I mentioned it to the first sales lady who pointed me in a general direction and walked away.. I was a little annoyed by her but my visit soon turned around when someone else noticed how long i was standing and looking at brow pencils.. I come to this Sephora because it's close by. The store is okay but they always have a stock issue. I've never left with everything I needed. I went in yesterday for the sale and the person who "helped me" complained that they were out of a lot of things. Why is a sale launched with nothing stocked? The last time I went in I clearly needed help but no one asked me. Finally, as I was going back and forth between products, instead of giving me help the associate gave me a basket because she thought I was stealing. Update: since this is the closet store to me, I have to come. Service is pretty hit or miss because my last few visits have been good. I think they still have work to do on overall friendliness. I came into look for a face serum which I'm always changing up and the sales associate Renard was amazing! He took the time to answer all my questions and really understood what I was looking for in a serum. He pointed out a few that he would work best with what i was trying to achieve and didn't sugarcoat any of the products and gave me the real deal on some I had my eye on to ensure I didn't waste my money. He suggested a few serums and made me some samples to ensure i was happy with the product as I was looking for a specific consistency in a serum. Overall Renard is great and really knows his skincare and was impressed on how versed he was on all the skincare and ingredients and what will work best! read more

This Sephora store has mostly lazy and uninterested employees. I go there anyway for the products. There is a tall man with dreads who is very helpful. When customers come into the store the associates are quick to greet them but turn away just as fast before they can be asked for help. Also the employees are by enlarge uninformed about most of the products. They have to read the printed material at the makeup counter to inform customers of the purpose or any info about the products. I have shopped at this store for many years but now rarely ask for help due to the staff. This store gives Sephora a very bad reputation. DO NOTTTTT COME HERE FOR A MAKEOVER. DONT EVEN RISK IT. So - I was visiting some friends of my up the road and decided to stop and get my makeup done at a Sephora on the way! I can do my own makeup pretty well but didn't feel like doing it myself because I had a free makeover in my account. I book my appointment and i'm excited. I've had my makeup done once at sephora and it was AMAZING. I show up and the sales associate really wasn't really wearing any makeup, I'm like okay whatever. I tell the associate exactly what I want. I show the sales associate pictures (and even tell them that I know it won't turn out exactly like the picture and that's okay because i'm an understanding person!) I tell the associate E X A C T L Y what I want and even tell them the products I use and what works best on my skin. The sales associate starts doing some skincare stuff and I'm like okay nice this is going great (oh what a naive fool i was). The sales associate started doing my brows and I JUST had my brows waxed okay? All you have to do is fill the lines in...I do not know what possessed this associate to give me drag queen eyebrows with boxy ends and a sperm tail end - but they did!!!! Then the associate starts putting on foundation that is WAY too light for me. Maybe they're colorblind i thought????? Like what the hell. the associate globs foundation on my skin and it dries into a streaky unblended mess. I have acne scarring and kinda an uneven skin tone, but somehow with makeup it made it look so much worse oh my god. I looked in the mirror and wanted to cry Lol. :( I also asked for a simple natural matte look aka sweep a light shade over my lid then go in the crease with a brown and blend???? but noooooo the sales associate took an ashy brown and took that shade all the way up to my brows. Tragic. The contour shade used on my skin was terrifying. The undertone was grey brown??????? It was so muddy. I couldn't believe it. At some point I actually asked the associate if i could get a makeup remover to take my brows off because they were a lot bigger to what I was used to and I asked that they please give me anastasia brow whiz so I could do it myself. Yiiiikes, I tried to be super nice but at this point I was just wasting valuable time which sucked :( I left almost in tears out of frustration then wiped my makeup off in my car. It was better to show up to my event barefaced than looking like boo boo the fool. I ended up thanking God that I brought my makeup bag then doing it myself!! LADIESSSS i would NOT risk getting your makeup done here! I am sure there are some very talented people working on the staff but please don't take your chances.. do your makeup yourself..look for a MUA on social media..get your older sister to do it. I'm very thankful that I didn't have something CRAZY important to do after this...like i can't imagine if I was 17 again and getting my prom makeup done and left looking how I did..i wouldn't even go to prom. I would just cry in my room and eat ice cream sandwiches. I'm sure that sales associate who did my makeup is a great person!!! I went in looking for some foundation and lip balm. I saw an ad for their quick make over. I did the "flawless foundation" demo. They matched my tone perfectly, applied some products and went over how to apply them myself. It was an incredible difference! The sales woman was super knowledgeable and knew exactly what I needed. She also told me about lip exfoliant, a product I didn't even know existed. I've been using the products for 3 days and my lips our super soft, and my skin hasn't broken out from the foundation (which usually happens when i try something new.) Yes, its very pricey, but totally worth it. read more

Disclaimer: I love Sephora simply because of the number of different fragrances they sell. I also love the company because they let you test out a scent before you buy it. Keep in mind that the testers they give you are the equivalent of about 5 sprays of perfume/cologne. Ok, now that the formalities are out of the way - the Sephora in the Columbia mall SUCKS! My friends and I stopped in while we were shopping on Monday afternoon, and one of my friends asked for a sample of a scent - I mean really, one bottle of perfume can cost anywhere between $50 and $100, and it only makes sense to try it out and see how it works with your body chemistry. So anyway, she asked for a sample and the lady was SO rude! She walked over to get the sample as if she had ankle weights on, and acted as if my friend asked her to give her the sample out of her own personal collection. She even said something under her breath. 1/2 because she wanted to sample another scent, and 1/2 to piss the lady off, my friend asked for a sample of another scent (it was for me) and another employee told her asked her if she'd already gotten three samples (apparently you're only allowed three, but what did that matter because this was her second?). My friend told her no, and also told the woman that she could stand to be a bit more professional - the lady said nothing...smart lady. Note to Sephora in the Columbia Mall, customer service is KEY and for your sucky employees and their sucky attitudes , you get one star. read more

I USED to shop at this Sephora a few times a month. The staff used to be friendly & helpful but a recent incident ended that. I went in to exchange a foundation that I had bought online in the wrong shade. No one greeted me at the door, I had to search for an associate to help me. When I found one, she rolled her eyes upon me telling her what I needed & wanted her to test the shades on me. So she left to get the testers of both shades. I had my 11 year old daughter with me as I usually do. When she returned, she proceeded to put the foundation on her brush & I noticed my daughter making a face. When the brush touched my face it felt like slime. First, she tried to tell me the shade was all wrong but upon looking at her brush, it looked like it had been used on every shade/brand of foundation that they carry. It had probably never been washed! It was disgusting. I told her no wonder it wasn't a match, look at her filthy brush! Its Sephora for heaven's sake, they have brushes up the wazoo if you happen to be too lazy to clean the ones you use on customers! I got another eye roll & I asked to see a manager. The SA disappeared and another came up to me saying that no manager was available. I was furious. I exchanged my stuff & left without purchasing a bunch of other things I had on my list. I went home & called corporate, explained what happened and you know what they did? Nothing. Nada. This store does keep a decent stock of products but I'll never spend my money here again. There is a small Sephora inside JC Penney where the SAs are very nice but they don't have near the selection the other store has. So, if you're at Columbia Mall, do yourself a favor & go to Nordstrom or Macys. You'll get treated like a human being and on the off chance something bad does happen, there is ALWAYS a manager on site. Some people go to church, some people do yoga, I go to Sephora. Unfortunately, I didn't reach that level of higher power at this Sephora. The ladies there, with the exception of one who gave me a compliment on my eyebrows but then told me I should really re-think my mascara, were not helpful at all. Usually I am offered a basket upon my entrance into the store, and if I can't find something, they are more than happy to look in the back or in the drawers under the display. Not only did I get the eye roll of death when I asked where the Urban Decay section was, but I also got a heaping serving of attitude when I informed the gal that there was no more of the brown pencil that I wanted. Way to kill my beauty buzz. On the other hand, the store itself is decently stocked. They carry Bobbi Brown products instead of an assload of Kat Von D stuff, and no one seemed to mind that I gave myself a manicure right in the front of the store and didn't even buy a nail polish. read more
