Great selection of products Great reward sales people to assist you in choosing make up shades. They need to sell a collection of products that are less expensive and geared to teens and young adults. Some of the sales people are a bit snooty, for no apparent reason, and that is one minus. Of course most sales people there are very helpful. Love the mini sizes to try new products! read more

On Monday I went to oakbrook Sephora and had an amazing CM done based off a picture and I walked out flawless. STAY FAR AWAY FROM CINDY Never ever again will I step foot into this Geneva location even if it's the last Sephora around. I called ahead asking for an artist detailed in eye makeup and dramatic looks- I was assured junior artist were on the floor and would be amazing at this. Fast forward to the end of my custom makeover at Geneva I looked like a clown! I refused to look someone in the eye walking out of there as every employee came to kiss Cindy's butt about how my makeover was so amazing and beautiful and talented and how it could win competitions (this is after I was told she trains EVERYONE in the store) be what a joke. Upon my roommate leaving this location to smoke outside, Cindy took it upon herself to ask why my roommate walked with a cane and why she seemed young and had a cane and why. It's against the law to ask about disabilities and when my roommate came back from her smoke break- she tripped on the rug and Cindy made no effort to acknowledge if she was okay or not she actually chuckled! I found out afterwards that she was making rude looks the entire time at her- wouldn't even help her get samples even though she walked around with samples in her hands no one helped. I've called Sephora and reported this store. NEVER USE CINDY. Reference picture for what she was "going" for. I walked out of that store near tears (I WAS GOING TO ALSO PURCHASE LASHES BUT NOT FOR THAT ANYMORE) and went to oakbrook for a mini facial to have the clown makeup wiped off of me. read more

I've been to this Sephora previously with two custom makeovers. One was for a costume party and another was for a date. For both makeovers I stared to the sales associate that I couldn't get in until either just before 7 or at 7, and each time it wasn't a problem, but the latest they could schedule me on the iPad was 6:30. They said they would leave a note, but that it wasn't a big deal. Tonight I'm guessing they had a different manager, for i arrived at 7pm and the situation was not the same. Who I am guessing the manager is said I was too late, but they can squeeze me in for a 'mini makeover' which is like a cat eye or something. Then stated that if I was only fifteen late it wouldn't be a big deal. But I am a half hour late 'sorry can't help you'. If I wanted that I could have easily done it myself. I tried to explain the situation but the continuous interruptions, fake apologizes, and saying that they don't take anything past 6:30 I went home VERY disappointed and irritated. The situation wasn't handled as well as it could have been, and if I was misinformed earlier I would have liked to have it straighten out but all I got was brushed aside and avoided. WORST SEPHORA EVER. This unfortunately is the closest Sephora to me...so generally I am stuck going to this hell hole of a Sephora or either I have to wait and go to the one by my friend's house in Schaumburg. This Sephora is the red headed step sister of all other stores...can this store be smaller and have less merchandise. (Also the testers for foundation looked less than sanitary). The associates know nothing and you generally wait to look around for help...The day I was there-there were 4 ladies waiting in line at the cash wrap and not an employee to be found. Every time I ask a question the person who I ask needs to ask another person-because they are uneducated and uninformed. Also some of the people at this store have the WORST make up applications on themselves...why would I want someone who clearly just fell out of the 1980's to help me find cosmetics? It's a beauty store shouldn't you take some pride into the way you look and also check out your calendar and see that we are in the 2000's? Someone from Sephora Corp should come to this store and see what is going on because clearly I am not the only person who dislikes this particular location. Absolutely the worst customer service that I have ever gotten from a Sephora. I am really glad that this is not my go-to location, otherwise I'd either be spending more in gas or ordering exclusively online. Despite there being only one other customer, not one SA offered to help. Usually, I put out "I've got this" vibes but this time around I was helplessly looking around and should have been transmitting "omg ya gotta help me" vibes. Finally I asked a SA for help, who pawned me off on another SA, who then tried to sell me the most expensive foundations that they sell. I did not come in for foundation, mind you. And I am not sure how complementing my great skin was even conducive to selling me $70 foundation, either. But when I emphatically declared that I did not need the foundation, I was dropped like a hot potato and left to my own devices. Fine. As a VIB holder, I went to the register to see the current rewards and was actually shooed out of the way when the girl at the register realized I did not have a purchase to ring up. Fine. And if there WAS anything that I might have been interested in purchasing, it was then I realized that it WOULD NOT be at this location. read more

The store's makeup trainer Gia did an amazing job on my makeup on the day of my autumn wedding. She did such a good job that I hardly recognized myself afterward. I looked like myself but improved! My beautiful, androgynous maid of honor said, "You looked good before, but damn, slap some makeup on that puppy and wow!" I looked so good that complete strangers on the street would smile at me. This never happens to me! A few friendly strangers in the store approached and complimented me. My future husband looked starstruck, mesmerized by my appearance, saying I looked "Very, very good!" He eagerly looked forward to consummating our marriage after seeing my beautiful makeup. I falsely promised him I would recreate this look for the future. I doubt I'll be able to, though. Gia is some sort of wizard when it comes to product application and I do not understand this strange sorcery at all. She told me she has being doing wedding makeup for over 12 years. She was very warm, sweet, and friendly. I felt confident with her abilities and really enjoyed her company. I had entertained the idea of doing my own makeup, but I really suck at it. I was more interested in climbing trees, chasing woodchucks in the woods by my parents' house, and blowing things up with fireworks as a child. I never fully learned the feminine skills most XX-chromosomed people seem to have. I knew better than to trust myself with this makeup business. I looked around for bridal makeup applications from local businesses and found Sephora to be the best fit for me. Most businesses around the 60174 area charge an outrageous amount of money for bridal makeup application. As soon as the word "wedding" is placed in the equation, prices seem to inflate on goods and services; everything from beauty services to food service and more. Sephora was the most reasonable bridal makeup service I found. They only had me buy a $50 gift card in order to "reserve" my appointment date and time. Then, I was able to buy anything I wanted with my gift card right after my makeover. I bought my false eyelashes, an Andy Warhol NARS lipgloss, a good lip liner, and some powder.I also bought some clear mascara for my beautiful, androgynous maid of honor. High femininity is not her bag and I respect that! Again, I was running from forest monsters and stealing cigarettes out of the trash can at a young age, so I can relate. I was happy to let her wear a pantsuit and no (visible) makeup to my wedding. The store allowed me to reschedule my appointment TWICE without the blink of an eye. I usually don't like to reschedule things, but weddings are strange and complicated and planning for them can be hectic. As David Bowie said, "Gets me to the church on time!" I fully recommend Sephora's witchcraft and sorcery on improving your life at a reasonable price. read more

Sephora is to Ulta as McDonalds is to Outback Steakhouse. I'm in love with this place. The staff is always friendly when I go, always giving me free samples of the products I'm not sure about. As a side note, I got a Clarisonic the last time I went in, and they were very encouraging that the product would be exactly what I'm looking for. If you're interested in beauty products or at all in need of a product, especially a specialty product, go to the new Sephora in the Commons. It's clean and more fresh than any other cosmetics store nearby. read more

This is my favorite location in the area, the staff is super friendly and quick to answer any questions or make suggestions. It doesn't carry as many brands in-store as the oakbrook location, but it's not really that much of an issue for me. The staff is knowledgeable, quick to help, and hook you UP with samples when you ask. I love that they send out a monthly calendar letting you know about events coming up at the store, that's great. read more

I'm indifferent about my experience here. I always preferred this location but I'm not sure anymore. I was so uncomfortable here I didn't even want to buy anything. I don't know if they're trying to give "really good" customer service or they just thought I was trying to steal, which I surely wasn't, but I felt like someone was on top of me everywhere I went. It was to the point where I know they weren't asking me if I needed help to help me, they just wanted a reason to be near me. I was trying to get the right color lip liner for a lipstick and after looking at a couple, someone came up to me for probably the 5th time asking if I had any questions. I asked if there was any other options that might work, and without even trying to help, she said yeah that's probably the best one. I think I was there for about 30 minutes and they just made me feel like I did something wrong when I was just trying to shop. I ended up leaving with nothing. read more

I've only had one truly awful experience here and it was with a seasonal employee. I came in for a foundation match since my tried-and-true powder foundation was running out and had since been discontinued. She was very distracted and "matched" me. That's in quotations, you see, because once she applied the foundation (which was in "Medium Sand", and if you can't tell from my profile picture, should have been more towards "Whitewalker" in colour), I found out after I went into PUBLIC that I was bright orange. Jersey Shore orange. I got a glimpse of myself in a mirror at Bath & Body Works and had to beg the cashier there to be honest with me if I looked like Magda from There's Something About Mary. Needless to say, I went back, got matched correctly, and then remained butthurt about the situation for a good long while. But Sephora is Sephora, and I will forever be a makeup junkie. So I went back. Thankfully, Little Miss Foundation Fail was let go and I've received nothing but helpful support on every occasion since then. read more

I usually know what I am getting when I step in the store. The staff is friendly. I have never had to experience any rude behavior that some yelpers suggested. I have always been asked if I needed help finding something and they always greeted me. The checkout experience has also been great, not too long of a wait and a friendly transaction. I also visit the Schaumburg location at times (if I am in that area) but this location is certainly the one I visit most. No complains here :D read more

The store is well kept and staff here is very friendly, usually willing to give samples of whatever products you'd like. The woman at the counter was also very friendly, and gave me my Rouge qualifying gift upon request. It's worth noting, this is a location where you will have employees watching you and asking if you need help every few minutes to make sure you aren't stealing. I was also approached by a woman, whom I assume was the store manager, and she also asked me if I needed help. I did not. I recently consulted one of their stylists/beauty consultants for help finding the right foundation tone, and products for my skin. I got the sense that she was not very experienced, as her recommendations were not based on my skin type, but the fact it was the brand she uses herself. I have relatively pale skin, and for whatever reason, she kept choosing foundations with a yellow tint. In the end, she convinced me the Y215 Yellow Albaster tone of Make Up Forever was the right one, but I am not so sure anymore. She seemed to heavily rely on the skin IQ machine, which I have been told in the past isn't very accurate. The consultant also randomly brought me a lip balm to try, even though I stated I was only interested in help with foundation application and neutal/everyday eyeshadow pallets. I do not know if she was new or simply inexperienced with makeup, but she seemed to be at a stage where she should still be in training with someone more comfortable and experienced. read more

Me and a coworker decided to stop on in srphora since she wanted to buy new make up. I was excited to show her some of the products. I'm a huge make up junkie and I've bought a lot of their products. Already, I wasn't a big fan of the SA helping us. She was incredibly smug. She decided to put the smashbox bb cream on my friend. I was explaining to my coworker that it is a little bit similar tinted moisturizers. The SA came back and gave me a look. She said "stop educating her with the wrong information." Ummm EXCUSE ME? Wow! I've visited every sephora store within the Chicagoland area and I've never been talked to like that at ANY store. Incredibly rude to say the least. The SA probably saw the look on my face and said she was "joking". I can understand that she is knowledgable about the products, but as a sales associate you have to be respectful not smug and condescending. Even if you disagree with what a customer is saying, you don't have to respond like that! I just wanted to leave but she was still doing my coworkers make up. It just made matters worse that she was overcompensating by trying to continue talking to me. I love spending my time browsing sephora stores because always find something I like. This is the ONLY time I went into one and didnt purchase anything. Professional etiquette will always be more important than product knowledge. I will never go back to this sephora. read more

I go to this sephora by default because its closer then driving to oakbrook but the service is awful. I went in asking if they had an eyeshadow set and they looked at me like I am an idiot and said "this is a 2 tier store. Only 3 tier stores carry that." What the heck does that mean to me?!?! I am a customer. A simple no would have been fine. Another time I went in with a return. I had 2 items to return and had the recipes. The total for the return was 40.00 and I was buying something that cost 40.00. You would think this would be an even exchange. Nope. They returned the first item and then rang up the item I was purchasing and told me I owed the difference. I told them I just wanted to exchange but she said that would be 2 separate transactions. So? One item I paid with a gift card for too and the girl kept asking me "how did you pay for this?" It's on the receipt but she treated me like I stole it. I think if I stole something I would not have a receipt. Egh! When I explained again I wanted to exchange the girl treated me like it was my fault she couldn't ring up the difference. There was a tax difference too (I paid more tax where I had purchased it) but I didn't dare point that out. It was already taking forever. I just figured I'd take the loss. Psssst!! Over here-- did you know there's a Sephora in Geneva Commons? Weird, I know. It's actually been open for several months. I can't believe this hadn't been added to Yelp! yet...by me, that is. Actually, I knew...but I've been coveting Sephora all to myself this whole time. Gone are the days of braving traffic, construction, and the brutal elements of Chicago winters in order to acquire the most recently discovered indulgent cosmetic item that I neeeeed... Not that I'm fanatical about makeup or anything...but I've pushed it to the limit several times for a NARS lip gloss. Anyhow, I don't just love this store because of its convenient location-- the staff is really friendly too. I've been offered generously sized samples with no pressure for items such a foundations and primers from the staff a couple of times. Sure, this location isn't as big as the Oakbrook or Woodfield stores but they ARE working with tons of fragrances, skin and hair care items, not to mention cosmetics GALORE!! Make Up For Ever, Dior, and Laura Mercier are just a few examples of the designer cosmetics that this beauty authority has got to offer. The staff could be more attentive at times. When I buy cosmetics I generally know what I'm looking for, but if someone were to need help finding the perfect product...it could take a while. When I have interacted with the staff, they've all been really nice. However, there have been a couple of times that I've gone in and it's either been too busy or there were other distractions with the staff (returns/phone calls). I didn't feel like I was being ignored, but I also didn't feel there was any urgency to check in with me. The women cashiering are always friendly and ask if I've found everything I needed (well, I did..even if it was by myself). I will continue to shop here for the great products and friendly service. Ohhh yeaa..one more tip as long as I'm spilling my secrets. You should probably sign up to become a Beauty Insider while you're there. You'll get some pretty sweet perks when you accumulate points. Like the selection here, as they have many products you can't find anywhere else. Also, signing up for their rewards program is well worth it! Lots of good coupons and free gifts w enough points. This may be a weird thing to complain about, but I feel smothered by the sales associates at this store. It's like you can't just take your time and shop. It's constantly "do you need help" "can I recommend something" "oh, you'll Love that". On and on and on. I appreciate the customer service aspect of it, but it is very overbearing! I can't thank Natalie, Rachel and all their make-up artists for making my daughter's 16th birthday party so very special. There were 10 girls. They each got a makeover and then I gave them a gift card to shop. We were in and out in 2 hours. It was definitely one of her best parties she has ever had. This is hands down the best Sephora I have been to (and I have been to quite a few). Employees are knowledgeable and I really trust their opinions when it comes to any product I am looking for. Also, they give you as many samples as you want and fill those little containers to the brim! There's nothing I hate more than when those other Sephoras skimps on samples. If I am going to buy a $60 foundation, I am going to want to try it out for a few days first. The employees here are helpful and friendly, and most importantly- they know their stuff. Multiple bad experiences here. The most recent being a sales girl's unwillingness to help me find the right shade (when the store wasn't busy at all) she quickly did it with her dirty fingers. Didn't offer me a chair, or anything and said "this ones okay." I had a few questions and she said she was busy and couldn't continue to help me. So I ended up buying it. It was Marc Jacobs (very expensive) when I took it home, I took it out of the box and the foundation was already opened, used, and filthy. Clearly someone returned it and the sales associates just put it back in the shelf. I drove all the way back, explained what happened and didn't even get an apology or anything for their mistake. Overall the displays there are FILTHY and the girls on the floor don't use proper hygiene for makeup application. If I'm buying a luxury product I expect more. I'll stick to department stores from now on. Yuck. read more

I dont know if they are trying to overcompensate for the negative customer service reviews in the past, or if I look exceptionally sketchy today, but I've never felt more smothered in my life. It's a small store, so I'm surprised they're able to fit so many employees in to breathe down your neck at once. Extremely uncomfortable and I felt like I couldnt simply stand and consider my options. One woman actually insisted that I take a basket, despite me saying no thank you, as if I was about to stuff a bottle of face wash down the front of my shirt. Maybe the next time I'm desperate enough to come in here they'll know I'm not trying to steal anything now that I've actually paid for my purchase. read more
