This small shop caught my eye as we were moseying down Third Street in Geneva last weekend. The entrance is a somewhat farther back from the sidewalk than the others in town so it might be easy to miss. Any shop using the word "apothecary" tends to pique my interest since they often carry more niche brands, or higher end skincare, and as someone who loves exploring skincare I am quick to stop in; this was no different. I was a little surprised to see as much Dr. Hauschka here as they carry since that's a line you can get at Whole Foods. It was also a surprise that as a shop specializing in makeup and skin care that they didn't appear to carry a sunscreen--and I mean an a product that was solely sunscreen, not a foundation or lip color with SPF 30 or something. Sunscreen is probably the most important thing one can use in their routine, but you wouldn't guess that at a shop focused on skincare? They have a LOT of scents here. It's a small shop and it can quickly become overwhelming, as well as hard to tell the perfumes apart. Both of us customers in store quipped about the lack of coffee beans, and learned that they had them once and when they spilled they stopped using them. I was curious about one but I wasn't able to tell what it truly smelled like since one of the other folks in the shop had sprayed several already. The person working gave me a little tester to take home, though, which I appreciated. I would give this store another whirl if I was in the area. But overall I was a bit disappointed in their skin care options and lack of detail (the missing sun protection). They have a lot of makeup here too but I didn't really look at that much (it was somewhat dark in the shop so I wouldn't have been able to see a true color anyway). I am one of those people who likes makeup but who is a little intimidated by it, and doesn't really know what to try. Good thing I came upon Odalisque Beauty Apothecary, and its proprietress Bridget! This young woman blends the best elements of girlfriend-y chat, the ability to make you feel beautiful even before she's done anything (just by talking to you), and a low-pressure salesmanship (so you don't feel guilted into buying everything she's used on you, as at some spas or beauty emporiums). I felt that I knew how to use the products and wasn't flying blind, and I ended up with a look that wasn't radically different from my usual, but shifted just enough to be noticable. I like it. She stocks lots of good brands like Dr. Hauschka and the Japanese skin cream Yu-Be, and many unique fragrances as well. Odalisque is a wonderful shop full of difficult to find fragrances, candles, body and skin care products. The Odalisque cosmetic line is extensive - even those with sensitive skin are likely to tolerate (I am a case in point). Because this shop is small and busy, it is best to make an appointment if you would like a complete makeover on the weekend - or from the owner. Friendly staff are quick to assist or offer a helpful tip as you peruse the wide variety of items neatly displayed throughout. New products are introduced periodically, maintaining a fresh experience for frequent shoppers. Many price points are available whether purchasing a gift or a gift for yourself (my personal favorite!). Odalisque is one of the best reasons to shop 3rd Street Geneva. read more

What a gorgeous little shop. I came for the May Lindstrom products, but I stayed for all the other interesting and unique lines the store carries. I bought the Honey Mud, and it is as beautiful as I thought it would be. The lovely woman working at the store also gave me a little sample pack of all the other May Lindstrom products. It was such generous sample set, and knocks any other beauty retailer out of the park as far as gifts with purchase go (and this was no strings attached). Odalisque is owned by an awesome gal named Bridget. She used to live in France and she worked at Neiman Marcus for years--so this lady knows her stuff! She carries the best of the best in bath and beauty products. Most of her products can be found nowhere else in the Western Suburbs. Odalisque is a small makeup boutique and although they don't have the largest assortment of products available, what they have is excellent, and the individuals working here know their stuff. I have received help a few times from one of the makeup artists, Juliette, and she is wonderful. I'm so happy to have met her, because she has a keen eye on what shades/colors/hues work with my skin tone and I completely trust her opinion. Thanks to her, I have now discovered a few of my favorite lip shades EVER. Odalisque gives free makeup sessions with the purchase of (any) three products - my guess is you'll buy more than three, easy - and in my opinion this is one of the best 'deals' in Geneva. I took advantage before a wedding and had flawless makeup for the event. I received compliments all night! However I truly don't think you need to wait for a special occasion. I must start this review by stating that I do not on a daily basis wear makeup. When preparing for my wedding my best friends encouraged me to get my makeup done. I have never liked my makeup when anyone has done it. I was refered to Bridgets store by a local friend and went to give it a go. I actually cried my makeup was soooooo perfect! Both my mother and I have known Bridget since she first opened shop some five-six years ago, and we have always loved her and her store. First and foremost: Bridget is Odalisque. Without her, it would just be another niche- pricey apothecary with fancy soaps. And, don't get me wrong; Her products are of exceptional quality, and the her prices are reasonable considering she sells luxury. But, even though she hires nice young women and they're always helpful and bubbly, you go to Odalisque for Bridget. Not only is she one of the sweetest people you will ever meet, but her knowledge of makeup, skincare and beauty is boggling (and her skills as a makeup artist are incredible). Geneva, IL is one of my getaway spots.... a place to girlie it up by indulging in smelly stuff, jewelry, makeup and ice cream! I get three out of four of my needs met at Odalisque. The diverse products she carries are all of the highest quality, not just in the shop because they are trendy, but beacuse they are great! I was a little intimidated to head in my first time because I anticipated the prices being exorbitant, but there are many reasonable options. Bridget turned me on to Jurlique facial care which has honestly changed my skin, and the Odalisque line of makeup is second to none! I did a test for my wedding makeup and was amazed. Bridget is OUTSTANDING. She really has a great understanding of color and skin tone. Obviously she did my makeup for my wedding as well and I received so many compliments! My whole bridal party and the mothers had their makeup done at Odalisque as well and everyone looked amazing.
