Any shop using the word "apothecary" tends to pique my interest since they often carry more niche brands, or higher end skincare, and as someone who loves exploring skincare I am quick to stop in; this was no different. I was a little surprised to see as much Dr. Hauschka here as they carry since that's a line you can get at Whole Foods. It was also a surprise that as a shop specializing in makeup and skin care that they didn't appear to carry a sunscreen--and I mean an a product that was solely sunscreen, not a foundation or lip color with SPF 30 or something. Sunscreen is probably the most important thing one can use in their routine, but you wouldn't guess that at a shop focused on skincare? They have a LOT of scents here. It's a small shop and it can quickly become overwhelming, as well as hard to tell the perfumes apart. Both of us customers in store quipped about the lack of coffee beans, and learned that they had them once and when they spilled they stopped using them. I was curious about one but I wasn't able to tell what it truly smelled like since one of the other folks in the shop had sprayed several already. The person working gave me a little tester to take home, though, which I appreciated. I would give this store another whirl if I was in the area. But overall I was a bit disappointed in their skin care options and lack of detail (the missing sun protection). They have a lot of makeup here too but I didn't really look at that much (it was somewhat dark in the shop so I wouldn't have been able to see a true color anyway). The building is not accessible; there are several steps to get into the shop. It's street parking only.

I am so happy to report that none of that happened. Literally none! I explained to the make up artist that I only wear chapstick for fancy occasions and she was completely understanding. She listened to my previous make up experiences, explained what she was doing in each step and asked me what I wanted my finished look to be. I couldn't have imagined that I could look so spot on like I imagined but I did! She explained that there are classes to help me learn application skills and other events for newbies like me. Also, the doctor claimed each vial lasted for 24 hours... oops it's 8 hours (she didn't read the 24 hours was just patient testimonials. I really feel taken advantage of, especially since my sight is involved.

After aimlessly wandering around for 10 to 15 minutes looking for my products, not one employee offered any greeting or asked if I needed assistance. Disappointed, I was about to make a break for the door when a retail superhero appeared out of nowhere and swooped in to save the day. I communicated my needs to this lovely young lady, and she efficiently pointed me in the direction of the products, providing top-notch service to someone who was feeling very ill at that time and just wanted to get in and out the store to get home. Given that I ended up dropping over $100, I think I'm justified in expecting a higher level of service - especially in today's economic climate where every dollar counts. I read that Ulta Beauty's in-store service policy requires every guest to be greeted immediately upon entry. Advisors must provide a friendly, personalized experience. The standard greeting procedure dictates acknowledging the customer, sharing current promotions, and directing them to specific areas. Perhaps Geneva Il Ulta could remind their staff that saying hello to customers and offering assistance upon arrival might just make them stick around long enough to part with their hard-earned cash, instead of choosing to walk out in silence. If that happens again at any Ulta, I'll be outta there faster than you can say 'ohh she used profanity' even if someone heartedly asks if I need help on my way out. Customer Service is becoming non-existent these days and very sad to see this happen. Two stars for the young lady who helped me otherwise I would have given a 1-star rating!
