I am a product junkie. I was recently audited by my husband regarding my "personal product" shopping habits and realized that I spend way too much on makeup, skincare, makeup, perfume, makeup...and the funny thing is I am not a heavy makeup wearer! Anyway, this is the BEST Sephora I have ever been in. It's laid out very nicely, it's posh and clean (unlike some I've been in where you're scared to touch any of the sample tubes of gloss based on the condition of the store), and the sales people are really, really on-point. Too many times I've gone to sephora to get matched for a foundation, find a replacement blush, etc and walked out with something awful that I've had to return. That, or I'm being pushed around by large crowds and ignored by overly done-up "makeup artists" who look like clowns. At Georgetown Sephora, they must have some seriously high hiring standards because everyone was friendly, attractive, clean, and willing to help. They actually knew what they were talking about and I didn't feel like someone was pushing something on me that they had just seen a presentation on from their local distribution rep... The best part--- there are MEN that work there. Now ladies, I know you are great but sometimes I wonder if you secretly don't want us other ladies to look too good so you might give us a little crap. The men only want us to look our best so I was thrilled to see that there were several working there just waiting to make me beauty-licious. read more

Sephora is mecca for makeup lovers (and those who hate it but wear it anyhow). This particular store has grown to include many more brands over the years, and it has become my one-stop-shop for all of my beauty basics. It's a great place to pick up a last-minute present for the special lady in your life, or to sample new products. I agree with reviewer Amy A that "Sephora is fabulous" -- the only reason I'm not giving this location 5 stars is that the customer service has been inconsistent. And I'm a stickler for being treated well at a store where I will readily drop lots of my hard-earned cash! read more

Makeup done by Jasmine, she was so great. I had a wedding and I needed my makeup done so I would not look asymmetric like when I do my own. I walked in at first I thought she would just do the basics, because their appointments were completely booked, so it was very informal and did not get the facial, which is included in the $50 purchase one. I got charged $50 either way, which was very odd... She did a good job but I was dissappointed when I was charged for it. I got a great lip oil, pricey but really good, my lips are always chapped so I would recommend it if you're into splurging. I was told it was YSL, but I dont think it is as the box has a weird labeling and its made in USA, so def not YSL. She took pictures of her amazing job. I was given a sephora link to post a review but it is not very user friendly. The service for this Sephora location is extremely inconsistent and often more negative than positive. You'll either encounter an employee who visibly dislikes her job or a very cold aggressive employee. What on earth is causing a beauty service to become so ugly at times? You'll either encounter apathy or attitude--none of which I'd like while finding my foundation. However, to be fair I will acknowledge the one or two times that I had a pleasant experience with the service. Generally go on the weekdays if you want any attention (good or bad) and skip the weekends if you need one on one service. read more

Pores?... What pores!?!? Every girl will never know how many flaws they have until they walk into Sephora. This store has a fixer-upper for every little thing. They have all the cosmetic brands from Gwen's Harajuku Lovers to Dior (which serves to a great range of age groups). The service was also great. I walked in the store without a clue on what I wanted/needed but as soon as I checked out a power or foundation or cream, a sales associate will not only come assist me but also apply it on my face. They also explain the process and the techniques on how to wear it/when to wear it. And they never act offended if you reject their suggestions. I shop in Sephora all the time, but I had not been in this particular store. The customer service was horrible. The store had two customers in it, both of whom were getting makeovers. There were at least 5 staff members who were not assisting those customers, and none of them greeted me or asked if I needed anything. They just sat around and talked to each other, whining about how much longer they had to work. I smiled and said hi to one of them, and she was extremely rude and barely said hi back. If I could give zero I would. I made an appointment about a month ago to get my makeup done for my engagement photos at Sephora from 11:00am-11:45am. Unfortunately, I was running late from my hair appointment prior to this because the stylist was delayed due to traffic. I called to change it from 11 and was told 11:15 was the latest since they were backed up for prom - okay, that's fine I get it - so I literally get up mid-hair curling and zoom over to Sephora and I arrive at 11:20. I get to the front, and immediately one of the makeup artists says she was just talking about me and that she could no longer do my whole makeup and that I could only pick from one of their "15-minute" sessions and that was it. I explained the situation and was very apologetic and told her it was my engagement photos and I didn't have anywhere else to go and she was EXTREMELY rude. Rude than any customer service I have experienced in a long time. She said "you're late, this is a business" and that they couldn't do anything else for me because they were "backed up all day, next appointments at 12, 1, 2, etc." and she was super harsh in her tone while saying this. I literally broke down in tears and had already had a bit of a stressful morning so this just made it worse. I had 40 minutes until her next appointment - that's FIVE minutes less time than my original appointment - and she still continued to say there was no time. I get it - I was late, and it happens to everyone. But with so so so many options around town to purchase makeup products (including online retail), you won't survive with that kind of behavior and poor customer service. Everything you have in your store - I can get elsewhere. I will not be returning to this location and I will certainly be more inclined to buy makeup anywhere else! BTW - if you are such a "business" then you care more about the 17 year old coming for a one time prom makeup than your target customer who spends lots of $$ on makeup every year? Having a woman on the verge of tears right before her engagement photos is not great customer service. I made an appointment for 1PM two weeks before my engagement photos to have the "custom makeover." I just wanted to make sure my makeup looked awesome for the photos and though that Sephora could handle that. I arrive in the store around 12:50 and head to the back of the store to purchase my $50 gift card for the minimum purchase as instructed by the woman on the phone when I made my appointment. I checked in and said I had an appointment for one. Another woman approach the cash wrap and said she also had an appointment for one. Uh oh - I was told on the phone they only book one appointment per hour to give focus to that person. Another woman(manager? who knows, she never introduced herself to me) walks up and reviews the appointment book. She then tells me with an attitude that my appointment had been moved and was actually scheduled for noon. Excuse me? The other 1 o'clock appointment had been penciled in ABOVE my 1 PM appointment and a two was written sloppily next to the 1 beside my name. From then on, it was an awkward, well, what do we do, we don't normally have two people at the same time... we can try to make it work. Thankfully the other woman whose appointment had been scheduled at one realized that I was getting my engagement photos taken and allowed me to go first. I had my skin prepped by a salesperson for Dr. Perricone and she was great. Lots of helpful information and advice. Not super pushy. Afterwards, she let a Sephora worker know I was ready to be taken downstairs for my makeup application. I awkward stood around for five to ten minutes until someone said, "oh I think they're waiting for you downstairs." Headed downstairs with no guidance and proceeded to stand around for another five to ten minutes until one of women I had spoken to when I got there tried to sit me down with a makeup artist. The makeup artist said "no, no, no. I have a 1PM appointment." After a few minutes of discussion there, finally sat down with another makeup artist, Anna (Ana?). She was WONDERFUL. Completely put me at ease, made sure I was comfortable with the products she was using, asked a ton of questions to make sure she was using the right products. After the makeup application, we were running a bit late to our engagement photos, so Anna grabbed me the lip gloss so I could check out and get on my way. I stepped up to the cash register with the same woman who informed me with her attitude that my appointment had been moved. She ran me up and as I start to give her the gift card I was required to purchase, with a pained look on her face, informs me of the $50 minimum. I have already purchased the $50 gift card so I've already met the minimum, I tell her. She rolls her eyes at me and says "the idea is that you are buying the products that she used on you." "I am buying one of the products she used on me, I'm running late for the photo session, I don't have time to spend the rest." "Well, that's not really how it works." Whatever, I pulled my credit card out and just ran it through the machine, as she tries to tell me it's okay to use my gift card. At this point, I'm running late, I've had a horrible experience because of this ONE person at Sephora and I'm just ready to leave and NEVER come back to this store. She then hands me my lip gloss with the receipt wrapped around it and tells me to have a good day through a pinched smile that looks like she couldn't think less of me. I'll definitely never shop at the Georgetown Sephora ever again and probably never set foot in another Sephora. read more

This is the worst Sephora I've ever been to. Sephora usually shines with their impeccable customer service, friendly makeup artists, and high end makeup products. However, I can tell that this clearly isn't a priority at this location. Despite reading the horrible reviews for this location, I came here on a Saturday because I needed concealer. I perused the store looking for a few concealer textures I liked so I could approach a makeup artist a little later to get her opinion and color match me according the foundation I have. Unfortunately, I was helped by an extremely rude and brisk makeup artist. I politely told her the exact shade of foundation I use (Naked in 6.0) and 2 kinds of concealers I liked and needed help color matching (Josie Maran and Benefit). Before I could even finish my explanation, she quickly wrote me off and told me those products woudn't work for me. She tried pushing other products on me and was continuously rude when I politely said I didn't want a liquid concealer. I ended up letting her put the Tarte concealer on me and watched her do a shoddy, careless job (confirmed by my friend who was with me). After a few minutes, I immediately tried to find another makeup artist across the store and asked her for a different concealer. She was much nicer and helped me find a great NARS concealer and even put my Naked foundation on me to show me the finished look. I ended up buying the NARS concealer which was expensive $30 but a great product. Overall, poor customer service and they clearly need to hire more staff. It was so difficult to track down one makeup artist. Also, Sephora should consider implementing some rules about the makeup on their employees--- why would I ever want to take advice let alone buy something from someone who has bright purple eye shadow and hideous highlighter pink lipstick? read more

Definitely a fan of bluemurcery but Sephora has literally everything!! A wayy bigger selection in beauty products and usually a staff that actually has relevant and informational input while you shop. I was out of town (from NYC) and came to this store looking for Nars brow gel. I usually purchase my supplies at Bloomingdales or Lord and Taylor. This was my first time at Sephora. I didn't see the brow on the shelf. So I asked one of the 'experts' at the store. As I explained to the 'expert' I use brow gel to cover the grey in my eyebrows. She gave me a pencil made by Nars which she claimed was equivalent. Well it was not equivalent. It actually turned my brows even more grey!! This woman had no clue what she was talking about and didn't care either. They care more about signing you up for their "rewards" program than anything else. I have no idea whether other Sephoras are like this. I won't waste my time finding out. I will never shop at Sephora again. read more

I come here because of my favorite brand, Tarte. However, the customer service is lacking. I have been several times and have yet to have anyone ask me if I need help while looking around. This irritates me to no end. There are usually an abundance of employees. read more

I am a VIB so I go to Sephora A LOT. This was one of the worst Sephora experiences I've had. The staff seemed too busy doing each other's makeup for Halloween to tend to the patrons. I absolutely love Sephora, and have had great customer experiences in other locations (Minneapolis, New York). However, the Georgetown store is working hard to change my opinion. I agree with the other reviewers who have mentioned that you are better off going in knowing what you are looking for, and not relying on any help from the staff. They spend more time standing around talking to each other or pretending to be busy than assisting customers. If you do happen to find an associate to ask a question, they generally aren't very helpful because they don't seem to have any product knowledge. This could be unique to the weekend staff, I've only gone in on Saturday mornings. Save yourself the hassle and order what you need online, or go to a different location if you're looking for advice from a sales person. read more

The beauty consultants here are absolutely lovely and helpful but one of the mangers is horrendous and really doesn't do customer service well - she was truly horrible when I asked her for an email receipt rather than a paper one, which didn't seem like a huge ask. Would recommend other locations to avoid the annoying Georgetown crowds. Also do your own research about products using makeupalley.com as I've noticed sephora pushes makeup forever quite often but the consultants often don't know a ton about other brands. read more

I LOVE this sephora!!! They have some skincare and makeup brands and products that many other Sephora's in the area don't carry as much of (Marc Jacobs, Armani, etc). I love that it's split into two floors with cosmetics on the first floor and skincare/fragrance on second store. Staff is generally nice, and usually very willing to answer questions/prep samples. Sometimes they'll have brand ambassadors (I actually don't know what they're called?) there willing to advertise/promote/answer questions a certain brand's products. Once in a while though or during busy times, the store can get a little crowded and it can be difficult to get help right away... but that isn't too big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. read more

I had an absolutely incredible experience at this Sephora location. I went in for my wedding day makeup. I don't wear makeup often and needed a look that felt fresh and natural but was still glam enough for the most special day of my life. I was greeted warmly when I walked through the door and everyone was so excited that I was there to do my wedding day makeup. Malia prepped my skin and she was super knowledgable about the best products for my skin type. I felt she set up a great canvas for the artist I had, which was Korie. Korie listened carefully to my needs and came up with a look that was pure perfection! I wanted a natural face with bold eyes and a neutral lip and I got exactly what I wanted and then some. Not only did my makeup feel comfortable and look amazing, but whatever she did it lasted all day and well into the night! I was still looking fantastic when my new husband and our friends continued partying after the reception late into the night. Sephora is just a godsend. One of the happiest and best places on earth. This one isn't as big, although it is two floors, than many that I have seen, but I am spoiled the one in San Fransisco is the size of a grocery store or maybe a small Target. The are really helpful and outgoingly so - which bothers me but other people think it's great. You can test basically everything which is the best part, it's like the ability of you and your friends to do a makeover on yourselves without paying anything, although you will be inclined to buy everything. They also will do make up on you, much like MAC or ie department make up counters. I'm writing this review a few months late, but I came in before a job interview and she spent almost an hour with me very carefully and thoughtfully picking out a new foundation, contour kit, moisturizer and brush for me. (I got the job too! Definitely felt great with my selection). The annoying thing about updating your make-up at the mall is that you're stuck with one brand's products at whatever counter you choose to sit at. With Sephora, there's a wide range of brands, from a conservative Clinique to a glam Hard Candy, to pick and choose from. On my last trip to Sephora the staff girl was very helpful with trying to find the right concealor for me since most turn up too yellow on my skin. After three different brands we found one that matched me perfectly. No more under eye circles for me! read more

After much walking around the city, I came into this store for 1 item I knew I needed & ended up at a Dior event & received a free make-over. The staff was very friendly and even when I asked to use the restroom in the middle of my make-over, they insisted that I use the one that is only for their staff. They really went over and beyond! This place is amazing! I went last weekend to pick up a Christmas present -- some gel nail polish. I knew the place was bigger than it looked from the street, so I asked one of the ladies at the door and she walked me to the right spot. Perfect! It took a couple of minutes to make a decision (one minor complaint is that one of the display nails had broken off and was hard to compare that way), but then when I got to the checkout I had the most amazing service! At first, the cashier wrapped the bottles and put them in one of their bags, but after I mentioned it was a gift, they made up a box, filled it with this shredded paper in addition to the tissue paper (I like the look of the shredded better), wrapped it with a bow and tiny makeup brush charm, and then put all of that into a bag with tissue paper. Horrible for the environment, I'm sure, but so amazing for free gift wrapping! And they threw in a handful of samples, too :) The prices are higher at Sephora in general than other places I might shop, but it's this kind of great experience that makes it worth it! read more

I felt very drawn to come write a review. I guess this is not the store to go to if you're a woman of color looking to shop in Georgetown. I came into this store as a person who wears very minimal makeup but very willing to learn and I have a lot of questions. I would've brought the whole store had the right associate been willing to give me the time of day and teach me. I was faced with a bunch of rude sales associates who barely gave me the time of day and was brushed off by a few. Hands thrown up in my face, told they were too busy...I literally had to go and search for wiling sales associates who would give me the time of day to answer some of my questions. Had I not already known about the product I came looking for I honestly would've walked out with nothing. If another store wasn't too far carrying the same product i was searching for, I would've went to that store instead. I'm sure the experience would be different had I had been a different race with expensive clothes. SMH! It's sad this is still happening in 2018! read more

Sephora is a decent shop - tons and tons of selection, of course. It can be a little overwhelming! The staff seems ready to help, but I usually already know what I'm looking for when I go in there. Sephora is my go-to place in DC or anywhere to buy makeup. While this particular location is not the largest or most fabulous Sephora I've ever walked into, it definitely fits the bill and carries the 4 brands I cannot live without: Bare Minerals, Nars, Laura Mercier, and Living Proof. I also really enjoy their rewards program (Beauty Insider) and am consistently impressed by the frequency of free gifts and discounts I receive from it. read more

An update - the sales people at the Georgetown location are top-notch. Better than other locations in the NoVa area. I came in just to browse and the sales lady (Melanie?) suggested a MUFE foundation that ended up being a perfect match, plus MUFE blush that was so pretty. Service here is usually alright but my cashier today was literally hopeless. I tried to do a return with my receipt and that took forever.. then I bought new items and wanted to pay with cash but he took it from the card instead after I said I didn't want to pay like that. Then he didn't even ask me if I was a VIB member so I didn't get the discount until after I was like umm I'm a a VIB member don't they have a sale? And he's like oh so we had to do it all over again. I enjoy going to this Sephora only because I can shop without being chased around the store by the pesky sales people. I agree with the other Yelpers, the customer service could use a bit of help. I also find that when I DO need assistance, the staff have NO idea how to help me. I went in for a highlighter and I was told by the staff that she (or he... it looked like a he) doesn't use highlighter and didn't know how to help me.
