Got my little girl a birthday manicure with her friends on a Friday afternoon, we were a little late and they were very patient in waiting. I've been to Laveda on 14th street multiple times for gel manicures and always have been impressed at how easy it is to book a day or two before. The interior is upscale and professional and well maintained. They have quite an array of nail polish brands and colors. I've had multiple nail techs and I am a huge fan of Coco - she's detailed and a perfectionist while being efficient. She asks for feedback as she goes so she makes sure you like the nail shape and color before proceeding and is open to making corrections if you're not feeling it. I plan to continue coming back here for my regular manicures and will likely try some of their other services such as facials and lash extensions. I'd been going to Laveda about every 2 weeks for the last month and a half-2 months. Had a fine experience before today. Better than other nail salons in the area I thought. Price was reasonable. But today I went for a gel manicure and removal. At first with the removal with the grinder she kept missing my nail and going over the skin on my fingers / cuticles. It was uncomfortable but I didn't say anything because it was an accident. Then she began cutting my cuticles. She cut them so short that some of them started to bleed. She kept apologizing and I said it's alright because once again it was an accident. But I kept thinking maybe after the first time it happened on the second finger she was cutting, she might've learned / been a little more conservative with how close she was cutting the cuticles. Then we got to the filing and on one finger she got the skin and it felt like a rug burn with her filing not the nail so I spoke up and just said "ow" so she knew it hurt. She said she'd be more gentle. But after all of the butchering of my nails the rest of the manicure was unpleasant. The open cuticle burned when she put anything on them. The shapes are off, one nail looks square while the rest are round. There's nail polish on the tip of one of my fingers. And at the end she said "you're sensitive". But to me, you open skin of half my cuticles it's gunna hurt, so I thought the comment was rude and uncalled for. read more

Would give this place 2 stars, but the boutique is nice, and the lady that did my nails was extremely sweet - it just want a good job - at all. The rain is beautiful and spacious. Looked clean! I came to Laveda because someone referred me to a specific person for gel-x, but that person wasn't available. I called and asked if they had anyone available that had a lot of experience with gel-x nails, I was told they had someone that was great and to come in. I can't remember the lady's name, but she was extremely sweet and talkative - I enjoyed her a lot. I came in for a fill on my gel-x, but I was there for 2 hours. It took so long for her to do a fill. Then, when I get done, my nails are lumpy and not clean around the edges. I was so annoyed. She continued to ask if she could fix anything, but I had already spent 2 hours there, I can't spend more time to get them fixed. After 3 days, my nail chipped! Keep in mind - I get gel-x because they last long! I can go 4 weeks with no chipping. These nails chipped in 3 days. Now 2 weeks later, they are literally coming off. Maybe I should have waited for the specific person my friend told me to go to, but they literally said they had someone highly experienced in gel-x. There's no way. My nails wouldn't have chipped like this, and wouldn't have looked lumpy. read more

Ok I think I'm officially done with Laveda, which is a bummer bc they're super close to my house. I came in recently for an SNS manicure for my birthday. The manicurist was nice enough but mostly wasn't interested in having a conversation. However, it was completely different from every other SNS manicure I've ever had. She didn't use the drill to smooth the powder out on my nails and she did super thin coats that she then used a manual file to a very thin consistency. 2 of my nails chipped within 3 days and 3 more have chipped in the less than 1 week since I got it done. Usually my SNS manicures can go for 3-4 weeks so having them chip after 3 days was really annoying. I've literally had press on nails that lasted longer than that. I called them and let them know that the nails had chipped and they let me come in and get 2 of the nails repaired bc they will fix nails if they chip within 5 days but unfortunately the others chipped after I'd gone in on day 4 to get some repaired, and somehow the top coat has already rubbed off on almost all of my nails in some places. I'd specifically opted for SNS bc I had events 2 weekends in a row that I wanted to have nice nails for and now I'm going to basically have to get them done again, a week later which is ridiculous for a $50 manicure. I came here yesterday for the nanobrow procedure. Anastacia did a wonderful job on my brows! I've been wanting this procedure done for over a year and have been too nervous to do it and unsure of the hefty cost. However, Anastacia answered my questions and really took her time showing me pictures and putting me at ease. I love how they came out! The only downsides were the pain-- I'd recommend popping Tylenol beforehand (or maybe it's just my skin). She used a numbing cream only after she was partly through the procedure. I'm a little surprised I still have some pain a day later. But I'm sure it will subside and I'm really just grateful she did such a professional job! read more

I received a truly bad dip manicure - I asked the nail tech if the powder residue could be removed and if the shape could be fixed and if the powder could be shaved down to look more natural and she immediately got the manager who told me that this is just what a dip manicure looks like. Ok, I had low expectations because some of the DC beauty places I've been to have been all $$$ but low quality, but Emily and my wax girl blew me away even if the online booking didn't. I got my lashes done before my wedding and Emily was super sweet, careful, and attentive. She showed me pictures of styles, made helpful suggestions, and added extra length to one side after her initial finish when I wanted a bit more "umph." I came home and the bf says it was the best eyelash job he'd ever seen on me. I used to trek out to VA to get my lashes done but Emily all the way from now on. I did the hybrid (mix individual with volume) and it looks great! Will update with wedding pics once I get them. I also got my underarms waxes- for $23 you can't beat the speed and painless effort!! My wax girl was quick, clean, didn't reuse wax sticks, and finished everything off with a quick tweeze for stubborn strays. Less than 15 minutes but perfect for my big day. I didn't get her name, but thanks wax girl! Easy to make an online appointment and they text you reminders. I'm holding back a star because the rescheduling system is faulty - they take a $50 deposit for the appointment and when I rescheduled for an earlier time ( a week before my appointment) they took another $50. I'm still waiting for my first $50 deposit to be refunded. Definitely a problem if you're not someone that pays attention. EDIT: Money was finally refunded, bumped back up to 4 stars. I'll start with the salon being BEAUTIFUL! The receptionist offered me refreshments! The bar cart is STOCKED, honey! A great selection! Plus, coffee, tea and water. My nail tech was great and I love my nails! It has been 4 weeks, and though I have growth- no nails chipped or broken! That's big for me because I'm rough on nails! One failing of Yelp: I can't review this place twice for the (at present) two different services I've received (microblading with Lucy, gel mani pedi with Emma) which have both been OUTSTANDING. I'm writing this review as I'm getting the pedicure, and I swear to god it's the best damn pedicure I've ever had in my 33 years of life. I'd bet a firstborn that if I were to step on a scale before and after the callous removal, there would be more than a pound's difference in all the dead skin Emma patiently sawed off my tree root toes. $85 for a gel mani/gel pedi in DC somewhere your foot won't fall off? SOLID. Quality of service? OUTSTANDING. 15/10 on Lucy's micro blading and combo brow service as well; I plan on asking for a less reddish color for the 6 week touch up but beyond that - FCKING LIFE CHANGING. Do it. BOOK IT. You can make an appointment through this app and $550 for combo brow is more than reasonable. I'll def be getting more services here, and directing my female friends to do the same. read more

Will be coming here again! I came here today for micro blading and microshading, first time ever to have my brows done. My aesthetician was Penny and she was very sweet and professional. She filled me in on the process, what to expect during and after, and answered every question I had thoroughly. Each tool she used was brand new out of a package, and she even told me that every thing she touched my face with was sterile, and she changed gloves very often even if she hadn't gotten up or touched anything else. If you want brows done, ask for Penny!!! She even went the extra mile to show me what the pigment would look like after complete healing since it will fade as I was choosing what pigment to use. I was running 8 minutes late because my map took me to the wrong place. (Later figured out I tapped the wrong thing by accident, the posted address for Laveda is correct!!!) I called to tell them what happened and Mark at the front desk was very courteous and understanding and didn't make me feel bad in any way at all. The inside was very pretty and they have beverages for the clients in a fridge and cold water. Chairs in the lobby and service chairs were very comfortable. I'm disappointed to see lower reviews since I had such a great experience. Definitely give this place a chance! read more

I was in town and had time for a facial, and this salon was close to where I was staying, so it was great they were accommodating. The eyebrow wax was great, and the facial was relaxing. But the salon uses one of those face vacuums for blackhead extraction, which categorically does not work in most blackheads. So the facial consists mostly of someone slithering an ego liar or on your face and then adding moisturizer. Totally not worth it. I am sticking to my facial specialist in Austin who is a master at extractions. read more

As a newbie to lash extensions, I appreciated that my tech asked a ton of questions and showed me pictures before she got started to make sure I got what I wanted. I opted for a hybrid set which gave me a natural look but with a pop! I felt gorgeous but it wasn't too much! I also appreciated that I was given care instructions when I left. They lasted about a solid 2 weeks before i needed to go back for a refill. I was able to swim and workout with them with no issues. Booking with them was quick and easy. It's been eight days, and I only have three nails left, when my gel x extensions at other places usually last three weeks. The price here is absolutely not worth the product if it won't last. WORST SALON EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! STAY AWAY! I stopped in on a Thursday afternoon to get my brows tinted and waxed. There were some red flags right off the bat -- my esthetician couldn't even muster a 'hello' to me as she whisked me back to her chair. She neglected to even confirm what service I was there for -- she just started waxing away. I was caught really off guard by her briskness and the fact that we did not even go over what I wanted my eyebrows to look like. The waxing was surprisingly painless, but in retrospect I guess this is because she neglected to remove more than a couple of stray hairs. I could have done a better job myself with a pair of tweezers. Now to the REALLY bad part -- the tint. Before the esthetician began the tint she uttered her first sentence to me "What color do you want?" to which I replied "something very natural and light brown, something that would match my auburn hair." What I got was black. Literally black. My eyebrows look like someone took a sharpie to them. If you want a sense of what I look like right now, google "muppet" or "Tom Nook from animal crossing." It's REALLY, REALLY bad. I facetimed my boyfriend immediately after and he couldn't stop laughing at how ridiculous I looked. I confirmed with a few friends via facetime that I looked absolutely horrible. My confidence is shattered. I am actually embarrassed to show my face because my eyebrows look so ridiculous. I initially got a tint because I wanted to look good on a vacation I'm going on -- guess that won't be happening. I called the salon after I got home (and had scrubbed at my eyebrows with cleanser for 30 min) and spoke with a manager. He was very nice, professional, and apologetic, but none too helpful. First he recommended that I apply a baking powder and shampoo solution to my brows on my own. After I protested, he offered to have one of the estheticians try to"fix" my brows (evidently by putting clarifying shampoo on them), and when I agreed, he tried to set me up with the same woman who had screwed them up before!! No thanks! They gave me a refund which is nice, but also the bare minimum. So basically I have black eyebrows for the foreseeable future. No idea how this place has so many good reviews. I guess maybe lash services are better? If you're looking for a lash tint or wax, stay away!!! I cannot emphasize how bad my experience here was. I do feel bad about writing such a harsh review of what is (ostensibly) a small business during COVID, but considering I had major complaints and such a terrible experience here, I wanted to warn others. I have been to Laveda several times over the last year as I live nearby and I am consistently impressed with their service. Scheduling an appointment online is easy and they are so thorough in their manicures! I walk away satisfied every time. This last visit, I did a hydradermabrasion facial, manicure, and pedicure. The receptionist did not honor the 20% off facials offer if you check into Yelp; I contacted the salon via email afterwards and Marc was very generously and immediately resolved the issue. While I have never gotten eyelash extensions here, my best friend has and they look absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend Laveda for your beauty needs. read more

I have been going to the location on 14th for over a year. This last weekend I went to the salon for a gel mani and pedi. I had gel in my hands so put the cotton and foil on my hands to remove. My manicurist left the foil and acetone on my hands for an hour while doing my pedi...which is not what usually happens. When I asked if I can take off the foil she told me to keep it on. Then when the pedi was finally done and I removed the foil from my fingernails, my nails were literally pealing off due to the long exposure to the acetone. I have been growing my nails for years and now I literally have almost no fingernails. It's painful and what's left of my fingernails is paper thin and split down the middle from being so fragile. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE DO NOT GO HERE. First of all, my original appt was schedule for a day that ended up snowing a ton. I live on a hill that was not getting plowed and I could not make it to my appt. They were so difficult and rude about me rescheduling. I understand that they have a cancellation policy, but there was inclimate weather that I could do nothing about. I also wasn't cancelling my appt, I just needed to move it to another day... but they were so difficult to work with. Then, when I finally got there, I had the worst cosmetic experience ever. They did not communicate at all what they were doing and the lash/brow glue was BURNING me the entire time. I was in so much pain, had no idea what was going on and my brows turned out horrible. They made me look like I was in the lorax (they were crazy looking and not at all what I asked for). I cried for an hour afterward and therefore cried off all the lash tint. If you want to feel and look pretty, stay far away from Lash Laveda (they're also overpriced af for such a shitty job). read more

Really wanted to love this place given how kind the nail technicians are, but the quality of my gel-x nails were just so under par. I came in on a Thursday afternoon to get Gel-X extensions before a trip. The nails seemed a bit bulky and large, but after spending hours at the salon, I just wanted to get out of there. Less than 72 hours later (on Saturday), a nail popped off! I came in Sunday for a repair, and was charged $7. While I understand requiring payment for nails that pop off due to strenuous activity, the nail popped off after just 2 days. I feel like that's clearly a reflection of the work itself. Anyway, less than an hour later another nail popped off. I came in for a repair and asked the nail technician to examine all my nails to determine if any others would pop off, as I wanted to avoid having any additional nails fall off before traveling. She took a look and fixed 2 nails; this time I wasn't charged. However, frustratingly another nail popped off Monday - the day of my trip. Gel-X should be long-lasting, but I just didn't get that quality with my service here. If you're going to spend $90+ on nails, I recommend going to a place that can guarantee they'll last for at least 2 weeks. read more

They assign nail clients to specific nail techs, so i spent 25 minutes waiting past my appointment time, but a walk in came and was seen immediately instead of giving me that open slot. I made an appointment for a Hawaiian spa pedicure on a monday. i got there on time and waited about 5mins to get served. the service itself was nice, the chairs comfortable although no massage option. when done however there was no way to sit and wait for the polish to dry which after Paying $60 for a pedicure seems crazy. I stood in front of reception for 8 minutes without any acknowledgement from even one of the handful of staff members that were working. Their system was down, and appointments weren't loading - so business for them came to a complete halt. There were two other women in the waiting area, one girl looked visibly annoyed - she announced to them that she had chosen her color and they told her to keep waiting. She had already been waiting when I arrived. I would have stayed and gotten my eyebrows done, and I was even hoping to schedule a higher priced service (a facial). But I don't like giving my money to places with awful customer service: a simple, "hello, welcome in! Our systems are down at the moment, but please have a seat and we will be with you as soon as it is resolved" would be better than having a potential customer stand around with no acknowledgment. I came for a pedicure in the afternoon and was seen immediately, right at my scheduled time. One thing that stood out immediately was their comfortable chairs. I've been in other places that wanted unconventional pedicure chairs but they were a pain. These were nice, and the bowl of water was pretty. I wish I'd gotten a picture. I was nervous because the total time on the website was 10 minutes and I didn't know if I was going to get an eyebrow consultation (I've had a bad experience). Joi pencilled in my eyebrows and let me see in a mirror before she waxed. Decent price for an eyebrow wax too in comparison to other locations. The reception was disorganized though. I was asked 3 times what my name was and what appointment I had after I had checked in. Confusion among the technicians on who their next client was. Everyone wore masks, but there was no hand sanitizer, my temperature wasn't taken at the door and my station was sprayed down very quickly when I was walked over.
