We had to make concessions on things that were wrongly ordered and there were a few plumbing mistakes which required rework, causing the project to take twice as long as it should have. The carpentry work was exceptional, though, with attention to detail and solid workmanship, resulting in an overall successful project. But, the general supervision and communication from the project manager were dreadful and caused a very stressful experience. As other reviewers have said, messages were rarely responded to and it required me to frequently follow up just to know what was going on with the project, and who and when someone was coming. When the project manager did show up on site, which was rare, he just walked in and went straight to the subcontractor, without barely a hello to us. It's really a shame because a well done job should not be so exhausting and frustrating for the customer. As long as they use the same carpenter, I would recommend them, but I suggest making it very clear at contract signing what you expect and lay out clear rules of engagement and communication expectations. I'm updating my review rating from a 3 to a 4 because the owner, Karen, sincerely listened to our concerns and we feel that she will make the necessary adjustments so that future customers have a more pleasant experience. As previously noted, the workmanship of the main construction components are top notch and had the project manager not made the job so painful, we wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

I was scratching my head when I saw that, as in, how did that ever happened? Didn't he have the basic tool, like a level? His partner even said he had told him it was not straight. The next day he came back to fix it, but I already had a bad feeling about that. Long story short, a couple of months later, one of the balusters fell off to the ground. It was then that I realized he was using screws to tighten ONLY 1/3 of the balusters, he was using skinny nails for the rest. The balusters warped and moved because of exposure to the outdoor elements and popped out. We had to get replacements to fix the issue. I got 10 and I used them all, because more of them fell off or became warped. Then yesterday afternoon, I was just slightly leaning on one side of the railing and it shifted under my 125 lbs weight. I immediately contacted Scott. He read the message for sure, but he hasn't replied. My recommendation: do not use SJS handyman at all cost. It took him and his partner "5 days" to finished the job, because for a couple of days he would leave for late lunches and didn't come back. He even walked off middle of the job one day because of a heated argument with his partner. He's very unprofessional and without my knowledge, used some of the 20 year old existing wood added to the new deck.

Despite the estimate which was on the higher end of those we received, we elected to proceed with TWM based on that recommendation and our desire to have things done right the first time around. Unfortunately, work that should have taken several weeks (per TWM's communication) took more than two months. Communication with regard to the delay was non-existent and when it did come, made us feel that our "little" project just wasn't important to them. No apologies for the delay that set us back more than a month. I found it funny that in our final invoice they threaten to charge additional interest for accounts more than 30 days late. If only they applied they same standard to their work... Would urge readers to work with someone who values them. I truly hope we are the exception, not the rule.
