Currently rated 40th on the W50b list Septime remains a difficult reservation for good reason, Chef Bertrand Grébaut's time at Arpège translated to a five course tasting plus extras that changes daily for just €85 at lunch. Fully booked at precisely 10h00 three-weeks in advance, just as it has been for more than a decade, arrival at 80 Rue de Charonne finds the green-fronted bistro largely indistinguishable from those surrounding while an interior of concrete and wood is neither exciting nor particularly comfortable. At one point part of the "Bistronomy" movement, but now perhaps best considered a Micro-seasonal experience right down to its beverages, guests are invited to begin with Aperitifs well-suited to deeply flavored Onion Broth and signature Gougeres served piping hot with bold spicing. Served at a leisurely pace by educated servers, though not the sort prone to over-explaining, proper courses begin with puffy Bread alongside housemade Labneh and Milk-fed Lamb Tartare before progressing to a green Salad with Egg Yolk dressed in White Wine, Olive Oil, and Garlic. Next taking advantage of local winter Truffles, smartly sandwiched between caramelized Endive with Pears and hints of Wine, Bread is offered to sop up all the Sauce and replenished to do the same with Monkfish in complex Buillabaisse. Not a place where one is prone to go hungry, all portions substantial including a Potato Salad offered with the Fish, Dessert on this day saw classic Crème caramel spun earthy with Mushrooms and another generous shaving of Tuber melanosporum that played well the nearly-burnt Sugar. read more

Dining at Septime is definitely a bucket list - with the 50 best restaurant in the world, highly regarded by Eaters and 1 Star Michelin, Septime is known for its forward pushing menu with a focus on seafood and its pairing with unique natural wines. Technically perfect cooking, a focused yet deep wine list & really warm, friendly service. Reservation is hard to come by but if you are willing to wake up at Paris time 10am with a 21 days in advance booking, you should be able to score a resy. Although for us in the US, 10am Paris time is middle of the night so could be challenging. Ambience is French countryside rustic - Didn't have to dress up, didn't have to wait for choreographed service or any of the nonsense that the low reviews seem to crave. Just a very good restaurant. Some of the pairings were super interesting and really transformed the dish. However, on the day of our service, some dishes (such as the grilled endive) was a bit of a let down. Simply outstanding. Consider yourself extremely lucky if you scored a reservation to this restaurant. We went for their lunch menu and left extremely grateful for the experience. As you'd expect, a really delicious and creative meal but almost underwhelming given the high expectations one would have of this restaurant. Reservations are notoriously hard to land; you have to book 21 days in advance at 10am local time and reservations are booked up in minutes. I enjoyed the more rustic feel of this restaurant as it's up-scale but still relaxed and not pretentious. The staff was very welcoming, taking our coats, explaining where all the ingredients come from, etc. Now on to the food; the lunch is a 5-course tasting menu while we got the 7-course tasting menu for dinner which was 135 euros. They started and ended the meal with a complimentary brioche with cheese (which was a deliciously light bread) and blood orange chocolate bite, respectively. Our favorite dishes were the roasted white asparagus with tempura fried garlic leaves and the aged red tuna with carrots. Both played on textures and temperatures perfectly with very refined, and well-paired flavors. I understand the farm to table and locally sourced approach but we did find ourselves wanting more protein and heavier flavored courses. Maybe just a personal preference but the meal felt very light overall. Shoutout to my boyfriend for waking up at 4:00 a.m. EST to snag the Septime reservation! We came for lunch on a Monday and did the 70€ tasting. Highlights included a bean dish, tomato satay dish and veal sweetbreads. I will say we actually had a better meal at their sister restaurant Clamato (on the same block) a few nights later, but this was solid overall. Was thrilled to dine here after securing a dinner reservation via the waitlist; however, I was met with lots of disappointment. Service: 0/5 1. Unprofessional behavior: Upon our arrival, we were excited to dine at the "11th best restaurant in the world" and took some photos of the interior. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, our servers, a woman named Ljuba and a man with a mullet and heavy French accent, reacted with eye-rolling and mocking laughter. Ljuba also consistently addressed us with a smirk and a condescending attitude. 2. Lack of knowledge for menu: When we asked about the ingredients in our hummus, the male server was unable to provide an explanation and did not offer to find out. Typically, Michelin-starred restaurants make sure their staff are well-versed in the menu and its preparation, but this was not the case here. 3. Inattentive and slow service: We had to wait abnormally long for our water to be refilled as the servers were preoccupied with joking around, as though the restaurant was an elementary school playground. Also, another party that arrived 30 minutes after us finished their meal about 50 minutes earlier. We had to wait extra long between courses and for the bill. Food: 3/5 1. Hair in food: We found a short strand of blond hair integrated into the bread that went with our hummus. I couldn't believe this was happening at a restaurant of this caliber. The servers only addressed it with a quick, insincere apology. 2. A few standout dishes; majority were average: The roasted zucchini dish had an acidic, yet creamy flavor that I particularly enjoyed. The strawberry basil sorbet was delectable, too. The rest were very average, and we also noticed how many dishes had distinctive Asian flavors and cooking methods. The potatoes were cooked similarly to Sichuan shredded potatoes, and the mushroom ravioli broth tasted exactly like Taiwanese beef noodle soup. Perhaps, these are flavors that taste novel to locals but to my group, they were very ordinary. Overall rating: 1.5/5 Septime does not deserve 11th place on the world's best restaurants. This is a restaurant that is trying to be creative, and they manage to do so to some degree. They have put together some original dishes. The tasting menu is heavy on the vegetarian dishes, which is fine, just be aware of it. The flavor profiles were subtle at times and played well with the wine pairings. The only problem is that the pairings are maybe 1.5 to 2 oz (45-60 ml) and ok, if that is what they want to do, that is fine too, but that is not enough wine to even have more than a few sips with each dish, and I found that I was finishing my course with no wine several times and then sitting with no wine to drink as I waited for the next course. There were times when it was 15 to 20 minutes between courses. Come on guys, increase the pours and get the tempo right. If your pours are going to be this light those plates should come out much faster. Leaving your patrons with no wine is a faux pas, but also not giving someone enough wine to finish the course is too! I even ordered an extra glass of wine thinking that they would give me a normal 5 oz pour and I could sip on it when the pairing went dry. They charged me 20 Euro for another 2 oz pour. If you try this restaurant I suggest buying a bottle of wine and not doing the pairing. read more

Septime was one of the hardest reservations we have ever tried to secure. We crazily stayed up until 2:00am for an entire week trying to get reservations because they would be gone in less than a second. But our cray cray paid off and we were able to enjoy a good meal at one of the top restaurants in the world. The food was good but not great and I don't think I would be staying up late again trying to get these scarce reservations for this tiny restaurant. My two favorite dishes of the night were the mussels and veal. They were tasty and melt in your mouth delicious! Septime came highly recommended as a must try when in Paris, and perhaps we felt let down as the expectations were set too high. There are loads of exceptional restaurants in Paris with better food and service at much more reasonable price points. Note: Lunch bookings are five courses vs seven for dinner service. Reservation process: We had to stalk the page ~three weeks out to even try to book a spot, and finally managed to eek a booking in during a lunch midweek for four people. Service: Calling this out first as it was not the greatest. When you enter the restaurant, you are greeted as if you've stepped into the wrong restaurant and you don't have a reservation. But once it's clear a reservation was made, we were seated quickly, though at a family style table which we ended up sharing with three others. Food was meant to be staggered, but ours was a little too staggered with large gaps of time in between, particularly when compared to the three folks that were seated well after our third course. They caught up to our fourth course quickly. Food: Some of the dishes were interesting and delicious - the bread roll to start and the tempura dish. And they were certainly pretty to photograph, but nothing was extraordinary/blow your socks off. Atmosphere: For some reason, the place came off cold and unfriendly. Perhaps it was the rigidity of the wait staff, or the general unfriendliness. Overall: If we had to do all over again, we'd pass on this and spend far less for far more in taste and service elsewhere. Again, not terrible, just did not live up to the hype. Recently had a trip to Paris and of course had to seek out the World's Best Restaurants. Septime didn't not disappoint. While I read forums that getting a reservation being difficult, getting a lunch reservation was pretty easy - just make sure to know the date/time of when they come out and I don't think you even need to be there right at the dot. The spot is quaint with lots of grays and browns. Feels like a cabin and homey. The meal has a 5 course meal but they had a few extras that complimented the overall experience. All dishes were great but the highlights were, the first (deep) fried artichoke heart. I mean you can't go wrong with deep fried anything but it was tender and moist in the middle, but crispy on the outside with that hint of salt. The steak tartar was also a highlight and just a great version of a classic dish. The main fish dish was wonderful. Fish was tender, flakey, and "oily" from the nature flavor of the fish. The service was pretty great. They were generally attentive but at times, felt like it took a while to get their attention for certain things we needed. The experience was nonetheless amazing and I would totally recommend making a stop if traveling to Paris for a delightful and lighter meal compared to the usual heavy (IMO) French meals. read more

If interested, I would both spam refresh on the page as well as call on the dot. The meal itself was ok. Service was extremely friendly but was it worth it? Is it truly a worlds 50 best restaurant? Of the 5 prefix dishes, one was exceptional, a couple were fine, and none were bad. The main of the tasting menu, the chicken was the exceptional dish. Everything else including the carrots and ceviche were just fine. Overall, septime is a restaurant serving up hyperseasonal fare at a reasonable price. If I had a week in Paris and only had a handful of meals, would I go to septime? In retrospect no, but everything is always hindsight 50:50. So, I managed to score reservations at the much ballyhooed Septime restaurant. And was quite excited to experience this very hyped 1 Michelin star restaurant where you do not get to choose what you eat... The place only except reservations 3 weeks in advance in very narrow time window because seats go fast and have to be made online. I felt like I was very much part of the in-crowd suddenly! The restaurant surprisingly is located in a more rundown part of town, and I felt rather overdressed. So I recommend that you dress casual for this occasion if you decide to try the place. Septime is not like other Michelin Restaurants that I've been to. Far more casual and cozy. The atmosphere is intimate and rustic. The service is charming and cordial like a top romantic parisian cafe. But not like a high-end Michelin Restaurant. Like I mentioned previously guest do not get to choose what they eat, but they can inform the kitchen of any food allergies that you may have. There is a wine pairing option that we chose to skip. The price for both the tasting menu, wine tasting, and other beverages are all very reasonable, considering the reputation of the place and the quality of the offerings. We experienced lots of new falvor pairings, most of all, which were done quite well. The overall menu feels quite experimental with unique flavor concepts. Of course, there were some hits and misses. Since you can't choose dishes and the menu is always different. There's no use in making recommendations. But I would say that their use of spices and seasoning was excellent. The temperatures on the food could have been a tad bit warmer and the ecoutraments on the dishes and the overall unification of the meal seemed disjointed. But the experience was pleasant. This is a long overdue review given that we visited in early June, but Septime was one of our favorite meals in Paris. Scoring a reservation was a stressful experience via online and phone, but ultimately I snagged a lunch spot. To note, we tried to utilize AMEX Platinum's concierge service but were told the restaurant no longer accepts 3rd party reservations and requires guests to book directly. We arrived almost 15 minutes past our res time, thanks to a prior meeting running late, but mercifully they still accommodated us. From there, our lunch experience was simply delightful from start to finish. I opted for the wine tasting and our sommelier was so knowledgeable - we appreciated hearing the story behind each wine, as opposed to being given a perfunctory explanation. Each of the dishes was creative, fresh, and flavorful, highlighting simple ingredients; the chicken ended up being our favorite (and chicken is normally my least favorite protein). My mom ordered one of the non-alcoholic beverages and it was beautiful and super refreshing. The restaurant itself is bright, cozy and rustic. Service was impeccable, as expected. Yes it's possible to get a reservation here. Set your alarm for a few minutes before 10am Paris time (4am NYC time) and continuously refresh the website until the tables appear - they appeared a few minutes after 4am when we were trying to book. Make sure that you auto fill the information that you need so that you don't waste time trying to type in your details - they ask for your name, phone number, credit card and any allergies. If you make key board short cuts on your phone for each of these inputs you should be able to get the reservation very quickly and beat others that are trying - that's what we did and we got a reservation at the time we wanted. Now onto the food/drinks - overall for the price, it really can't be beat - the food is solid (and can be gf friendly) and the wine pairings were extensive with unique wines from regions I would ordinarily not have tried. Would I wake up at 4am to get another reservation in the future? Probably not, but I'm glad we came and were able to experience it since the restaurant is consistently on the best in the world list. read more

Septime is a Michelin one star restaurant and also ranked in the top 50 restaurants of the world; so high expectations are expected for a restaurant of this caliber. It also is one of the hardest, if not, the hardest restaurant to book in Paris. My fiancé smartly and luckily reserved a dinnertime reservation for 6 through chase sapphire's concierge service. So hint! I highly rec. people who have the sapphire or an Amex platinum to utilize their membership perks. Our reservation was the first of the night and we ended up waiting outside when we arrived a few minutes early. They do not open their doors til it's officially dinner time. No biggie to us, but just a heads up for people who want to arrive before opening hours. Service is great and I highly disagree with a previous yelper who assumed their asian ethnicity had a part in the staff being less than welcoming. We were treated with the utmost respect and there were 6 of us Asians. I must admit that one of our servers was real forgetful though and that is a major no for a restaurant like Septime. He was SO kind but he kept forgetting the lemon and wine list that we asked for. Now onto the food.. that's why everyone books Septime, right? It's a chef choice kind of dinner and we went on a night where the chef's choice of the only protein of the night was a small and underwhelming piece of cod w/ a strong miso-like sauce. Not enough protein at all and definitely not very "French" for us excited Americans. The dishes were mostly delicious aside from a pea dish that really just tasted like I was eating grass straight from the lawn. My wife and I went to Septime last summer when we were in Paris on our honeymoon. We found out about this restaurant through theworlds50best.com (ranked number 15). When we decided on Paris for our honeymoon, it was our mission to go to Septime. We lucked out and booked a lunch reservation right before they were set to close for the month of August (most legitimate restaurants in Paris do this). Septime was the first Michelin star restaurant we ever went to and it was our first time trying a tasting menu. What an experience! Our five course tasting menu included some of the best tasting and most creative food I've ever eaten. The dishes were all fresh and the combinations of flavours and textures were absolutely unbelievable. When comparing this meal to all of the other good food I've eaten over the course of my life, I can't think of anything better. This was without a doubt the best meal I've ever had. The infused water was amazing too. The restaurant had simple, rustic decor - it definitely wasn't pretentious like some other high-end restaurants are. The open kitchen was also really cool. Our server and the sommelier were professional, knowledgeable and friendly. The sommelier recommenced wines that would be the most versatile for the five courses, and when we were ready to order another glass, he suggested a really unique wine, that was unlike any I'd ever tried before. Unbelievable food. Unbelievable service. Unbelievable restaurant. We will certainly be back at Septime the next time we're in Paris - next time we'll go for dinner with wine pairing. 42 euros for a 4-course 1-michelin starred meal, complete with attentive service and a lovely atmosphere? It's a deal for sure. Three of the courses are surprises, but you'll usually get to choose your main between two possibilities. You can add a 4-course pairing of wine for another 38, and they'll gently ask (upsell) if you'd like to add a cheese course after they take away your 3rd course. Complex way to reserve, complete with leaving a credit card for hundreds of euros worth of deposit? Not so awesome. But since they've added online reservations, I can assure you that if you book far enough in advance, you'll come off the waiting list and enjoy a nice meal, but one that cannot possibly match the hype created by such jostling for reservations. read more

We had to get up at 4:00 am Toronto time to reserve a table for 2. It was100% worth every penny spent and all the stress we went through to book it. This was by far the BEST meal I have had anywhere in the world. There is a reason why this restaurant is so popular. Where to start. This was my second Michelin starred place, first one star. Reservation was particularly difficult to get. Being from the west coast USA, I had to stay up till 1am for the exact day I wanted. But even then I wasn't able to get dinner reservation. But I was able to nab lunch and loved every moment. To start, we stayed near the Bastille area and this place was only a 15 min walk from the hotel. The restaurant was decorated beautifully, with all wooden tables and the spiral staircase. Since this was a set tasting menu, there was no need to decide what to pick. We also ordered the wine tasting and formage to be included in our meal. To start out they gave us a small soup, which had fresh vegetables of the season, with a well seasoned broth. The first course was raw scallop with potatoes confit. The flavor of the scallop was delicious and not too overwhelming. Second course was a grilled endive with a very thin slice of pork belly with a mussel sauce that was DELICIOUS. For the third course they brought out sunchoke cooked in a very delicious savoury sauce, and poured some kind of light yet cream yellow sauce. For the 4th and final savoury, they brought us a beautiful cooked pork with crispy skin with some watercress and pumpkin purée and some green veggie sauce. Then we ordered the cheese course with was delicious. They served us Mont d'or which was a cheese made in the mountains of Jura. It was soooooo gooey and soft and silky. They also gave us a firm cheese which I cannot remember. Tasted almost like parmesan. For the 5th final course was a sweet dessert. It had a very subtle fruit with a nice Carmel sauce, surrounded by a really nice toasted oats crumble. Overall this place lived up to its hype and deserve the 1 Michelin Star. Our waiter was very nice, the service was impeccable as should any French restaurant should be. The wine steward even notice one of our wine glass was cracked and was super apologetic and got us a new one. I really enjoyed looking at all the design aesthetic of the place. Woke up at 4am 3 weeks before the date to get a lunch reservation. And it was totally worth it. A sublime experience overall. Super rustic designs, mixed with a very casual wine bar ambiance made for a very good setting. The menu differs every day, depending on availability and seasonality. What we got: - Grissini sticks with whipped Gouda and cumin - Cuttlefish, almonds, pickled turnips, pressed olive oil - Spring peas, lettuce, trout roe, and shaved bottarga - Brill with scallops, potatoes and spinach - Guinea fowl with whiskey sauce - Spring pea ice cream with blood orange tart It was all excellent, and everything just tasted so fresh. I especially liked the texture and richness of the guinea fowl. Hoo-wee. Service was impeccable, and were very helpful and patient. I wish I could review the restaurant but all I can comment on is the online reservations. I woke up in the middle of the night in California and had the reservation on my screen. Their system(zenchef) couldn't process my card (I tried several) and eventually timed out. Very frustrating. read more

this was my first nice dinner in paris in a world that was trying to navigate fine dining without social contact. septime came up with this concept of "septime à la maison" to help bring dining to people's homes while still maintaining the freshness of the food! instead of delivery, when the integrity of the food is lost in transit, they bring everything prepared, but uncooked, in vacuum sealed bags and provide instructions on how to sous vide the dishes so that everything tastes like new! given the pandemic and the fact that septime is one of the most popular and difficult to get into restos in paris, I definitely appreciated this! I had the prix fixe menu (€42 for food and delivery) included a starter of sucrine rôtie (not pictured ), main of bouillabaisse , and a dessert of ile flottant the sucrine rôtie was crisp and fresh, the bouillabaisse was tomato-y with a splash of the ocean, and the ile flottant was light and sweet! parfait read more

Best meal I've ever had. Incredibly creative. A dish described as some type of french toast w a super sharp cheese w onion broth is one of the best things I think I've ever had. It was so good that we were watching other table's reactions when they would get the dish. Unanimous eye rolls and head nods. Cuttlefish ceviche and the chicory dish w sauce made of mussels were also standouts. The overall environment, creative and perfectly executed tasting menu, and some of the best service I've had all combined for pretty much the perfect meal. At 95 euro this is a steal. Add the wine pairing. Funky, natural wines with a som that will spend time and explain everything to you. This meal was on the second night of our trip and it ruined nicer dinners we went to the next few days because it was so good. No point in doing another tasting menu because it won't be as good as the one you have here. read more

I cannot faithfully recommend this restaurant experience to anyone. Overrated, underwhelming, and overpriced in every way. Plenty of food critics have come here before me and perhaps I do not understand their palates and the source of cheer the other writers produced. I question what they seek and cannot conclude on anything other than a strong media presence, strong local relationships, and a bit of momentum from hype. Food: the courses started off strong with an interesting cheese basil topped soft bread, along with a rosemary based light broth. The first official dish were thinly sliced tuna and a soy based purée. This and the last dish, a perfectly cooked fowl mix of chicken and duck in a salty liquid marinade with bits of finely fried garlic. In between these two dishes were a parade of unimpressive vegetables. Sure I like asparagus as much as the next guy but nothing leapt out at me. I suppose if you like carrots and endives tossed in some whipped up sauce, ok, but this was plane Jane material. Service: subpar. Maybe a group of Asians aren't their typical clientele. Can't tell but we were met with some attitude (I also cannot discern this because as an American in Paris, I've been treated to some classique Frenchatitude so the radar is off). My friend was ignored when requesting for the check, not sure how this qualifies for top 50 in the world. Not coming back and cannot recommend. Not memorable and would rather have a good ole time at La Régalade Conservatoire. read more
