This place missed a real opportunity at good will during the Days of 47 Parade. Hired a security guard to make sure no one stole their shade. I would not recommend, must be a real "uppity" type place. The owners must not be native Utahns. :( read more

I was very nervous about this appointment. Being new to SLC, and having a loyal connection to my former hair stylist, coming into Sequel cold was scary. My long hair, growing for eight months, was not working out and the texture was driving me nuts. My thick curls were gone, lost to advancing age like many other things. There is nothing cool about getting older. It was time to get my hair cut off. Danielle was a very young woman from California who was admittedly apprehensive about cutting my hair off. Here was this persnickety older dude from NYC asking her to shear off his hair and be good about it. Yikes! Taking her time, and making sure every cut was as perfect as it can be, Danielle cut off my thinning locks with aplomb. She was exact, in no rush and communicated very well with a guy old enough to be her grandfather, but acting like an 18 year old about to go to Prom. She did a great job on my beard also. My hair looks great and I look ten years younger. (Not a day over 90!) The salon's decor is very 21st century, minimalist in design and affect. Although perfectly nice and accommodating, there is a bit of "fake" generated by the front desk staff. Prices reflect this affect. While not cheap, I will return soon for my hair cutting with Danielle. read more

Go see my Hair Stylist, Danielle Medina. She is Master at Hair Cutting Artistry, has a great personality and extremely humble. I have Natural, Curly, Thick, African American Hair which is not easy to cut, and as Hair Stylist, I'm extremely particular about my hair. I've never had so many daily compliments on a hair style, in my life, like I've had with my short cut by her. People have literally crossed the street, just to compliment on my hair. Love this place. Liz has been doing my hair since I moved here for college. LOVE HER! I mean, look at my profile pic. Hair is on point! Thanks Liz. The style and openness of the salon is great! I love the location - somewhat downtown, but not so downtown that you have to leave a 15-minute window to find parking. Great environment, great staff, and great stylists. I've seen a lot of stylists do great things! I'm there twice a month since it has opened...if you got a bad haircut/color maybe it's your hair, peaches. Danielle Medina is superb. I waited to do my review because I have natural wavy hair and Danielle colored, cut and straightened my hair. I loved it that day however the real test is how it dries without the professional style. It feels and looks better than I thought it would. I like the way Danielle listened and then repeated what I wanted. In addition, my sister was with me and is usually very shy, but she felt very comfortable with Danielle. I like the way she was attentive and sensitive to both our needs. Last, what topped it off for me was that the lightening on my ends didn't take on some of the grays. She had another appt after me yet figured out a way to redo the grays while not taking time away fr the next client. BOOK WITH DAVID! Trust me you will not be disappointed! There are no words to describe how absolutely AMAZING DAVID IS in every way!! He is professional but at the same time instantly your new best friend, almost like you have known him for years! He 100% knows what he is doing and made me feel so comfortable and had me walking out feeling absolutely beautiful! I have been extremely nervous to get my hair done since I have had some pretty bad catastrophes at salons in the past and had been having my mother who was a stylist do my hair for years. She passed away 2 years ago and I just couldn't find the nerve to get it done by someone else. After expressing my hesitation and nervousness to David he made it his mission to make my mom proud (which meant a lot to me)! He also went above and beyond to make sure my hair turned out perfect and made the whole experience amazing! His cut was beautiful, flows perfectly and is so great to style with. Gabby does my hair here. I've been here a few times now and she does a great job with fine hair. I go blonde and she doesn't over process.

I'm a low-maintenance girl, but the key to maintaining that vibe is knowing an excellent hair stylist. Gabby at Sequel gave me faith that I could get a good haircut in SLC. She is an artist when it comes to color and I appreciate her perfectionism. Whenever I leave her care, I know that with little effort, I will still keep my appearance on point. Caroline is a wizard with hair. I have been very loyal to my previous hairdresser, but after relocating states away, it seemed necessary to find someone new. I was initially skeptical about having a new person touch my hair, but she alleviated all of my fears with incredible knowledge and skill. I have been going to see Gabby at Sequel Salon for over 10 years. I cannot recommend her enough. I have never walked away feeling like my cut, color and style was anything but absolutely fabulous. She is so knowledgeable about all the latest hair tends, techniques and products. Sequel now carries the most amazing line of hair products called Oribe and they are an absolute dream to use. They make my hair feel great and helped me cut my styling days from nearly every other day to nearly every four days (time saver, much?!). I was lucky enough to score an appointment with Gabby, and my hair is gorgeous. I told her I pretty much hated having my hair long because it's kind of unruly and I always pull it back, so maybe we should just chop it all off. When I told her that I have a lot of natural wave, she got so excited and asked if I had a great cut and she showed me how to make my curls work, would I wear it down? I nervously said yes, and she went to work. After coloring my hair, she walked me through step-by-step as she styled it, which nobody has ever done for me before! She gave me a curly style, which I have also never left a salon with before. Everyone always wants to blow it out. I truly appreciate Gabby taking the time to teach me how to make my hair pretty. I have been struggling for a while on wether or not I should write this but every time I go in front of the mirror I get so upset that I feel like it's only fair to share my experience. Gabby has NO idea how to do ombré or what it is for that matter, I have had ombré for couple of years and loved it and got compliments all the time, my old stylist left the state and I needed to refresh it and move it up A BIT. When I went to her she seemed pretty distracted as she had a bride in THREE hours but that shouldn't have affected my service! She could have canceled my appointment if she can't concentrate before her brides! Anyway she literally gave me just a few highlights on the top shortest layer and bangs and then put all over color on my whole hair!!! And because the highlights started just 1/4" from my roots she called it ombré, seriously?!!! Now I have a brown all over color with ugly highlight just on the top short layer and bangs!!! Since then EVERYONE has asked me why I got rid of my ombré, so seems like they all know what ombré is except for her! She didn't seem to care when she saw me unhappy and was pretty dismissive when I only asked if she thought this was an ombré. So not only I had to give a ridiculous amount of money and waste long hours to get a strange looking hair, I now have to pay someone else to reverse it! The worst hair experience of my whole life hands down! The salon is pretty nice and cool but if they don't promote customer service and care about customer happiness, it's just a building! Never again!! read more

Cheryl basically chopped my hair so it looks like an upside down teardrop. Weird uneven heavy layers I now have to deal with. The few warm highlights that I wanted turned out to be all over my head with a horrible ashy tone, Awful experience. read more

I am a natural brunette and some years ago I decided I wanted to color my hair platinum blonde. The blonde damaged my hair so much that I had to stop coloring it, cut it short, and grow out my natural color for over 3 years before it looked healthy again. After a while I became tired of my natural color and decided it was time for a change. Because of my previous experience I was extremely hesitant to let another stylist touch my hair, but I had a friend who's hair always looked beautiful. I asked who her stylist was, called the salon and scheduled an appointment with Gabby, and loved the way she did my hair so much that I have now been going to Gabby for over 5 years. She is such a perfectionist and knows that the health of my hair is my top priority. She always keeps that in mind and has such an artistic talent when it comes to coloring and styling hair. She is the only stylist I trust and I won't let anyone else come near me with color and shears. I have incredibly thick hair so I do not trust just anyone to color it but especially cut it, but she exceeded my expectations!
