I did a lot of shopping around because I was in desperate need of tax help for myself and my business. Unfortunately, I discovered that there are a lot of scammers and a lot of companies in the tax business that literally just rip you off. Sequoia was different! From day one they were completely upfront and explained what I could expect from them. The only complaint I would have is that it did take a little bit longer than I would've liked to put me in touch with a good accountant however, in the big picture, it was not a big deal. Lord, if I could give a negative review I would. Never in my life have I been spoken to so disrespectfully by an account representative. On December 26th, I received a call from this company regarding an accident that I was in on October 28th. The representative, Lilian Gonzalez, was very forceful and stated that they did not have my insurance information, despite my exchanging it with the young man at the time of the accident. I told her that I did have insurance, but I did not want to give the policy information at the time, seeing as how I was in a public place and didn't want anyone picking up any sensitive information. She responded with "well you are going to pay for this" and hung up in my face. Yesterday, I called to try to give her my insurance info. She stated off nice, but as soon as I mentioned my name, her tone changed and she responded "I remember that you didn't feel comfortable giving me your insurance information but it's alright, we already talked to your insurance company" in the nastiest tone possible, and then hung up in my face again. If Ms. Gonzalez's demeanor is representative of the caliber of employee and service that Sequoia offers, then I can see why you all get dragged here. I understand that bill collectors need to be firm, but there's a fine line between firm and disrespectful and Ms. Gonzalez crossed it. I hope that the management reads this, and that she is dealt with accordingly and promptly. read more

Got a call today. They refused to talk to me unless I gave them my DOB. They wouldn't tell me what the supposed debt is. This business is shady. They never sent me an email or letter and refused to communicate in writing. This law breaking collection agency has broken four laws. They sent me a dunn letter Aug 19 2022, and i sent back a dispute via fed ex which they recieved sept 7 2022, ..... today is October 19 2022, and they have never sent me back a response but they went ahead and put it on my credit report. Then they never mm me when i called two days ago and the untrained agent did not verify me either. I basically said, oh, ... so you put this on my credit report and did not respond to my dispute letter. the kid was like ok oh just a sec. puts me on hold, comes back to the line; oh ya so my mgr said we'll take it off. then i ask for the manager who tries to verify me, i cut him off and nicely said you broke 4 laws, i'll see you in court. This agency is like all the rest breaking federal and state laws left and right and not giving a care to all the laws that protect consumers. attny general is going to be the next letter and an attorney in L.A. who sues collection agencies. I tried to make nice in an email but they ignored me. Sequoia Financial Services is reporting inaccurate and incomplete credit information. Credit reporting laws ensure that bureaus report only 100 percent accurate credit information. Every step must be taken to ensure the information reported is completely accurate and correct. The negative reported information therefore needs to be re-investigated. I respectfully request them to provide me with proof of this alleged item, specially the contract, note, or other instrument that bears my signature. They kept calling me about a fictitious $450 bill the hospital sent to Sequoia so they could take over. When I checked with the hospital, I found out that all outstanding bills could be viewed through MyChart, and that I didn't owe them $450. In conclusion, not only did Sequoia take advantage of my recent hospital stay to legitimize their claims, but also violated my privacy by obtaining my medical records and phone number. I had been ignoring my debts in collections for almost 4 years & when I finally decided to take responsibility for it & attempt to increase my credit score, I did so with some hesitation. I had read so many different things online, I didn't know what to believe. Even a credit advisor that I asked told me I'd be better off not even bothering. I went ahead & called Sequoia Financial & spoke with Mike Chavez & he assured me that any paid collection would be appropriately reported & should reflect on my credit report within 10 - 15 business days. To my surprise, in 5 business days from the day I paid the collections off, my Credit Karma showed the collections as $0.00! Obviously my score went up. These guys are the worst! I'd give them -1 star if I could. I'm not somebody they were trying to get money out. I'M THE CREDITOR! I actually had the misfortune of hiring sequoia financial, to help me collect on a judgement. They ended up being worse than the original debtor. When we hired them we had such hopes, they do a great sales pitch. But then they got lazy, they didn't live up to their promises, rarely returned phone calls and dropped the ball. So we fired them. To add insult to injury, they essentially they stole our judgments. After we fired them, they did not return our judgements and tried to collect on our debt. When we showed them they had been fired in writing, and they had accepted termination in writing, they didn't care. I thought We would get an apology but, no! They still tried to take our money. they, know it's wrong, but they are such scum bags they don't care. They don't work for their clients, they prey on them. I'm with most other reviews, I'd give negative stars if possible. My "debt" was paid before their letter was even sent to me. I called multiple times and my "rep" was never available, nor did they every call back. After 3 weeks of constantly calling, I finally got someone to tell me they had "cleared" my debt after my 2nd call and the "notes" stated they told me that...yet I NEVER spoke to anyone!!! Sequoia cares little about following the laws in California or the Federal law to protect consumers. Even after contacting them with proof they are reporting incorrect information to credit bureaus they continue to report erroneously. Why? Likely because few will follow up with a complaint and even fewer will contact an attorney. Here are several things you must do to help yourself and others: 1. File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission 2. File a complaint with the Consumer Protection Bureau 3. File a complaint with your state Attorney General. 4. Either sue them in small claims court or contact a Consumer attorney who may take your case on contingency. The law provides for attorney fees creating a more level playing field. read more

Terrible people here, specifically Herb Mitchell. I received a letter stating I owed 9,000 to an insurance company due to a prior accident in August. When calling Sequoia I was disgruntled being that we are in a pandemic and can't up with 9,000 dollars in 30 days. So when I try to explain the situation to him on the phone get met with remarks stating that "I'm playing games" , "I don't care what happened it doesn't matter to me", and then proceeds to mock me on multiple occasions and act like a tough guy then hung up in my face. From working in an industry where you have to deal with multiple different personalities that is not how you talk to anyone when your in a professional facing role. At no point did I disrespect him, mock him or call him out his name as he did. The most I did was try to explain the situation and even if it doesn't matter to him that's not how you handle that. I proceeded to speak to a woman named Dora who was exceptional and was actually helpful. Outside of her I would not recommend doing business with people like this, it comes off as very scumbag. read more

Wow the service I received from Maria Lopez at this company was horrible.

This is a tip for anyone who sees Sequoia on their credit report and has no idea what it's from. In my experience, I did not recognize the amount or the account number, so I challenged it on my credit report. Turns out, they had the wrong phone number for me and it was some excess charge from City of Burbank (which I would normally dispute but I just really needed it off my report!). When I challenged it officially, they did not contact me to follow up, they just marked it as challenged and stopped trying to collect. This does not remove the negative item from your credit report, you must follow up! In order to find out what it is call them at (818) 409-6000. Ask the what it is for and they will tell you. If you're mostly concerned about your credit score, ask them if it will be off your report completely if you pay. For me, the answer was yes. I paid and got a confirmation number and they said it will be removed. If you have a legitimate challenge, you need to explain it to them and provide documentation. Then, also follow up with the original creditor to make sure they remove it from their records as well. If needed, connect both reps to be sure. Hope that works! read more

Ok, where do I even begin? With collections, no matter what the story behind the debt is, it's a difficult thing to manage and a heavy burden to carry - be it valid, invalid, whatever the case may be we sometimes end up exchanging with collections companies. It's a reality. I had a medical debt that to my knowledge was covered by my insurance, but due to some faulty record-keeping on their end, the balance remained, and due to (if you can believe it or not) even bigger problems with business and finance, this bill was the least of my worries. Fast forward years later, I'm trying to rebuild credit and qualify for a mortgage, and Mike Chavez and Bob Miller (GM) PERSONALLY responded to every call, every fax, every request re: updated information being reported to the bureaus, everything. Even after Mike assured me my account would be deleted (post-BK), I get a call AFTER HOURS by Bob Miller, who tells me that he follows up personally to every matter. He called in response to a letter I faxed and mentioned that especially with medical debt, he aims to build a culture for his staff of mercy and understanding. He jokingly mentioned that no one likes debt collectors, and by nature maybe we never will, but what I can say about SFS is they've HELPED me, not hurt me. They've been sensible, thorough, understanding, patient, and they are a force of good in the debt collection world. I wish everyone the best on their journey, yours may not be the same as mine and I understand that, but I had to leave an honest review of my great experience with SFS, Bob Miller, and Mike Chavez. read more

Horrible. Just horrible. I received a debt collection notice about a bill that I never received. Before paying the bill I wanted to know who it was from. They wouldn't even tell me the name of the doctor that I supposedly owed. It wasn't even that much money, but there is no way I am giving my credit card info and paying for something before looking into it. And if, in fact, I found that I did owe the amount I wanted to know the name of the doctor so I can ask why they never sent me any bill and went straight to a collection agency. The man I was dealing with was awful. His name is Jim. He treated me like a child and at one point said to me over the phone (after I had done everything they asked so I could get the name of the doctor's office) "If you pay the bill right now over the phone, I will tell you who it is." What?! Like he was my parent and I'm a three year old who doesn't want to eat her broccoli. If you are sent a collection notice from this company, I pity you because there is nothing you will be able to do. I get a message from tSequoia Financial Services saying that they need to talk to me about my 1997 Honda Accord.. Which was stolen a month ago.which I thought if the car was found the police would have notified me..and the car was payed for so I wasn't financing it,, so I call just to hear what kind of bullshit this was.. i am not a creditor.. but i'm also not the right person they have on account. i contacted them to prove i am not the responsible holder of an account they supposedly had on me. once i let them know it wasn't mine and that i am willing to prove it they stopped returning calls. whenever i call the receptionist would tell me that the person holding my account is in a meeting and if i would like to leave a message. when i do i don't get the calls back. they said they will send me documents of what they have for me to verify my account yet it came 2 weeks after they said they will send it. honestly from their office to my location isn't even a 3hr car drive. and it isn't like they sent a big packet. 2 weeks to send 2 pages.. one asking my card payment info and another of a bill. ridiculous. not really cooperative and the person who talks to me has an accebt that i can't understand. i am just directly sending my proof to the credit bureaus.. even if i was a creditor in need of help, i wouldn't want to hire people who do business this way. read more
