While the administrative staff was nice and attentive, my clinical experience with Dr. Patel felt more like a high-pressure "timeshare sales pitch" than a medical consultation. The first red flag happened when Dr. Patel recommended a specific cleaning that included a rinse/spray. When I told him I just wanted the basic cleaning covered by my insurance, he dismissed my preference. He stated he didn't know anything about my insurance coverage and refused to perform the basic cleaning. I later learned that his recommended cleaning came with an out-of-pocket expense of at least $100. The second red flag came when he displayed my X-rays on the big screen. He went over every tooth and recommended replacing old silver fillings with cosmetic white ones, along with several other costly procedures. When I questioned his recommendations, he became condescending and repeatedly asked if he had explained it well and if I even understood him.At that point, it became clear that I was dealing with a money-hungry dentist rather than a trustworthy provider whose primary focus is patient care. Then when checking out I had questions about my husband's estimate and the you g women at the desk took such a long time to confirm that I was authorized to receive his information (which is great) but then she not so subtlety went on to discuss it with me In front of the other 3 people that was in the waiting area so I guess it was important to them that I was authorized as his wife but others did not need the same scrutiny to receive my husband's medical information. As for my experience I have enjoyed the assistant staff but not the actual doctor . I went in for a broken tooth. They took an X-ray of the upper tooth, and when she came in she looked at the broken tooth, barely glanced at the bottom teeth and told me I need a filling and a crown on one of my bottom molars. I went along with her recommendation as I care about the health of my teeth and always keep up with whatever recommendations my dentists makes. She started the work. They both use a lot of 'care' words and such, explain everything , apologize when something might hurt, etc. But at some point she told me to close my mouth and I did, but with my mouth all numbed I thought I did and she kept saying close it, close it , she then grabbed my chin shaking it telling me to close it . Then was so frustrated told her assistant ' you see this , you see it, it is not closed' pointing to my teeth as if I wasn't just sitting there. I couldn't understand what I was doing wrong as I could not feel my mouth and thought I was closing it. She then went on to explain what I needed to do so I was able to close my mouth but I was so mad because of the way she was talking as if a retard or a child was in the seat. I went back cause I wanted the work I paid for completed which was putting in the crowns. The temp they put in fell off within two days and I had to go back to get it fixed then I went for my permanent. Again the assistant was super nice prepared the tooth for the permanent crown. Before getting there I had some sensitivity issue on my top tooth but no problem with my bottom tooth. When the same doctor came in to place the permanent that was already prepared for her she came in and blasted my bottom tooth which was exposed at the time with such strong air they I thought I was gonna pass out. She apologized and told me she didn't know it was sensitive which it wasn't until she blasted it. She then asked ME if I wanted a root canal!!!!!!! How the heck am I supposed to know if I need a root canal? I told her so and she said we can just monitor it and fix it later if it is necessary then. I still can not eat anything cold with my bottom tooth since the crown was put in which was perfect fine before going there. They went ahead and sent me a survey which only asked for ratings and no comments. And I was gonna let it go but they continued sending me emails asking me to share my experience on google and Yelp so here it goes. The two stars I gave is for the staff but definitely not the doctor or the practice as a whole as I feel do not do a good job taking care of the patients or their information . From the beginning of the appointment, I felt that she was unwelcoming and lacked professionalism and courtesy. [Not sure how the details like if it was self-taught, learned thru family members, etc., but it was helpful.] And Dr. Lee really interacted with me -- more laughs than usual. Most times he takes a quick look, asks a few questions, and scurries off. He is the only dentist so he must be busy. I remember calling on their closed day (not knowing this fact until afterwards), and I think he answered the phone (or the other Asian guy -- lol) and made an appointment change for me. All in all. I thoroughly enjoyed my interaction with Claire and Dr. Lee on this particular day. This is a Korean practice, but everyone speaks English. I enjoy the courteousness with an Asian place and less of the chit chat banter of small talk. I truly think I have found my lifelong dentist. Side note: Like how do I have like three or four cavities when I continually go and get my cleanings, and the actual dentist said I am all good. Then BAM. On September 29, 2021, I went to my very first appointment at this dental office. When I checked in…read morewith the receptionist for my 1 p.m. appointment, she asked for my Driver's License (DL) even before she gave me any paperwork to fill out. When I asked for the reason, she initially told me it was needed to verify my appointment. Then she informed me that a copy of it was needed to have on file and to verify the information on the patient forms. Before I handed her my DL, I told her that she could not make a copy of it but that she may use it to verify my appointment and the information on the forms when I fill them out. She repeated that a copy was needed on file for future references. But, I emphatically told her that she could not make a copy. I stated that government agencies advise people to exercise caution when providing personal information and to not hand over DL or Social Security Card when it is not necessary due to rising cases of identity theft. But, she insisted that it was needed for insurance purposes. Again, I told her not to make a copy. Plus, when I made the appointment, I stated that I would be paying out of pocket instead of with insurance. Despite my concern for privacy and without having my consent, the receptionist surreptitiously put my license on the scanner while I looked away at my phone. However, I caught her taking it out of the scanner just as I looked up. When I asked her if she had just made a copy, she answered--"No, I scanned it"--with a smirk. My instinct told me that this establishment could not be trusted. Despite my intense toothache, I immediately told her that I was cancelling my appointment. Better safe than sorry. She then proceeded to slide my license under the patient forms on a clipboard instead of handing it back to me and placed the clipboard behind the scanner as if I would not notice. When she realized that I was on to her game, she reached in and took out the license. Her actions and body language spoke clearly to me that this establishment could not be trusted. I asked to speak with the office manager who turns out was present the whole time I was interacting with the receptionist. I explained that my license was scanned without my consent and that I would like to have it deleted from the computer. To which, the receptionist stated that I had given her the consent--what a liar!!! What kind of place is this? Without addressing my concern, the office manager told me that a copy of the driver's license was needed for insurance purposes. However, I was not nor will ever be their client, therefore, my license was not needed. But, my concern fell on deaf ears. What are they going to do with my license? Are they going to use it for insurance fraud? Receptionist, along with the manager, is the face of this establishment. With such people, who clearly lack integrity, customer care, and professionalism, one can't but question if Duluth Dental and Dentures is a trustworthy place. If they can't show decency and respect when I first walk in to their office, how can I trust this dental office with the care of my teeth, health, and personal information? Based on the dishonest behavior of the receptionist and the lack of professionalism of the office manager, something in this establishment is very much amiss. If you are looking for a new dentist, I would think twice before visiting Duluth Dental and Dentures. Better safe than Sorry!!!

Dr. Nguyen was tremendous. Super patient and gentle! I have a lot of anxiety around going to the dentist because of past experiences and he was completely great!
